8381 | Urgent and swift help needed!! | Eph 6:12 | EdB | 5817
What you need to be doing is praying. Praying for your church, praying for your pastor, praying for this man, praying for the new believers, praying for the mature believers. You do not war against flesh and blood. Pray and pray some more, hold up your pastor, hold up your church, pray God will remove the blinders from this man's eyes, pray God will move mountains in this situation. I believe God allows situations like this to occure so people can react. God is looking for the mountain moving prayers. Remember the amount of mountain moving you see in your prayers will correspond to your faith in the prayers and the faith in your prayers will correspond to how much you pray about this situation. And know this many are praying with you |

I want to apologize to Nolan for asking this question. It wasn’t my place, though I did it for what I feel was the right motive, to stick my nose in where it did not belong. My motive was to try to keep an open dialogue in this Bible study. However after Hank added what a I consider to be a rebuke and my perception of the temperature of this debate on infant baptism I wish to withdraw my question. Obviously the sides are being chosen and I prefer to stay out of it. Again I apologize to all for my butting in.
8383 | More help with the millennium | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5806
Okay, that gives me something to think about. If you beleive this is the millennium, then you probably believe that Satan is restrained in the pit Rev 20:2-3. If so where do you think all the sin in the world today comes from? Also we are told Satan's role is as an accuser of the brethern, how is this done if he is sealed in the pit? One other part still bothers me in Rev. chapter 16:19 it says the great city (Jerusalem?) was divided into three parts where has that occured? Thanks for giving us a preterist view of Revelation
8384 | Isn't God sovereign? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5786
Bartay, forgive me I used what I thought was a common Christian term "Free will". From our response I thought wrong, it must not be that common to everyone. By free will I mean we have the choice to obey or disobey. God did not create us as puppets where he pulled the string and we jumped. God set down laws and statues and precepts and told us to follow them. However as you know from the time in the garden to now many choose not to. That is "free well"
8385 | What about chapter 16? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5785
You know unless someone can come up with a better answer that might be my choice. Let me ask you what do you do with Revelation chapter 16? If you believe that this has already taken place can you give me some indication as to when and where? |

8386 | Aren't a lot more killed in chapter 16? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5779
My friend a third? what about the bowl judgements of chapter 16? Ocean like dead men's blood rotten and everything dead, rivers and springs virtually all drinking water turned to blood, Sun so hot it scorches, earthquakes powerful enough to level every mountain and sink every island along with hail weighing 75-100 lbs. And those that aren't dead meet at Armageddon to face the final wrath of God. I think it will be a lot more than 1/3 destruction. To me it sounds like total and complete destruction. I still need help coming up with an answer of who will be in the Millennium. |

Brother reread what you have said here, do you really mean it this way. While I do not hold with Orthodoxy’s view of baptism, most everything he said was right. From around 150 AD and possibly much earlier the prevailing method of baptism was infant baptism. This continued until the Anabaptist questioned the practice in the mid 1500's. The anabaptist were persecuted for their belief by nearly every one, catholic and reformer alike. I further submit that the anabaptist beliefs did influence the beliefs of those today that are against infant baptism. There is nothing new under the Sun The idea of infant baptism is not without some merit. Infant baptism has an analogy with circumcision. The Jews circumcised a baby in his 8 day to bring him into the old covenant. Likewise the early church baptized an infant to bring them into the new covenant. Since this practice was established so early in the church it may have come into being, through the unwritten teachings of the Apostles or early disciples. Melanchthon quoted the testimonies of Origen, Cyprian, Chrysostom, and Augustin, for the apostolic origin of infant-baptism. Luther said, “The burden of proof lies on the Anabaptists to show that infant-baptism is forbidden in the Bible, before they abolish such an old and venerable institution of the whole Christian Church.” Orthodoxy further said that we came out of a Catholic bent, that raise the ire of just about everyone. However anyone that celebrates Christmas and Easter is celebrating Catholic (read early church) holidays (that is not to say there is anything wrong with giving glory to Jesus on those days). The influence of Catholicism in Protestantism is undeniable and serves no purpose argue. Brother I contend that while you may not agree with Orthodoxy he to should thanked for his input into this discussion. If for no other reason than his input stimulated others to respond and from those answers you were able to reach your conclusion. I thank him because he caused me to go out and reread early history to get an understanding of the issues. Thank you Orthodoxy! |

8388 | What about Ex. 4:11 does that apply? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5702
Exactly! Let God reign! I think of the double standard we apply to God. Ravi Zachariah gives an illustration. A plane crashes to earth and 300 people are killed and humanity cries how could God allow such a thing to happen. Yet every year we kill 40,000 babies and okay with "its a woman's right to make a choice." We DEMAND that we have a choice but we resent the fact the God has a choice. Unlike our choices which many times bring further disasters, God's always work for the best. |

8389 | Isn't God sovereign? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5701
We have to take Ex 4:11 literally and your conclusion to the literal meaning is exactly the point I'm trying to make. God is sovereign and we have no idea how his plan/actions combine and effect the whole scheme of things. Evil is not necessarily what we as humans always perceive it to be. Evil by definition is anything contrary to God. Architect builds a building and people live in it everything is great. Then one day a man decides to commit suicide and plunges from the building. Do we say the architect created an evil building. No we say the man that jumped made a bad decision. God didn’t create evil He just gave us the choice, to follow Him or not. If we chose not to, then it is us that is creating the evil. The philosophical will respond that God by giving us the choice did by default create evil. And I guess in that sense we would have to say He did. But to have us "Free willed" beings that had a choice it was necessary. However God never uses that evil to cause us to stumble. We view things evil that may not be. For instance a handicap at child birth. Ex 4:11 and John 9:3 both seem to say God has people born with handicaps, which seems very unfair when judged in the perspective of our physical life span. However when viewed in light of eternity handicaps may be advantages. Citing the example Charis gave of how a handicap has humbled him. We know humility carries additional rewards in eternity. We have to hold tight to Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. |

8390 | What will be left after the Tribulation? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5696
Prayon that is what I had always been taught and what I believed, that there would be some saints that would make it through the tribulation and go into the millennium. But two things make me question this. First what is going to be left after the tribulation? Hardly anything, most of mankind and the earth will have been destroyed. The new earth and new heaven comes later. Sure doesn't sound like there will be much for Christ and the resurrection saints to rule and reign over. Secondly the implication is there that some people will live the full 1000 years. Does that mean these people will live the whole way through the tribulation, resisting all the horrible things that would tempt them to curse God, only to rebel with Satan at the end of the millennium? I think not! As I see it the earth will have been virtually destroyed. Grass, trees, river and oceans, every living thing destroyed. Virtually all of mankind will have been destroyed, either through disaster, murder and mayhem, or in the battle of Armageddon. The teachers of the post Tribulation Millennium must have saw something in scripture that answered these concerns and I'm wondering does anyone know what scriptures they are? |

8391 | Please I need some ideas | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5593
Please I need some ideas, My quesion is who is going to be living on earth during the Millennium? Some have answered and said it is the saints - that is correct, but they are ruling and reigning with Christ. My question is who are they going to rule and reign over? I can think of two possibilies, 1. they are tribulation saints that weren't martyred, but that seems to be problematic in light of the rebellion at the end of the millennium 2. People that aren't saved but somehow avoided taking the mark of the beast, that too has problems in light of Revelation that implies you will have to take the mark to survive. I find can nothing in scripture to clarify this picture for me. Can anyone offer clarity of scripture that might indicate who will live upon earth during the Millennium. |

8392 | What about Ex. 4:11 does that apply? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5560
Charis does Exodus 4:11 effect your answer? I think the problem here is we are trying to box God in. He is only a "good" God if what He does falls within our parameters or definitions of good. God is sovereign and his decisions effect more than just the 'here and now' they effect the spirit realm of which we know very little and all of eternity which we can only hope to understand.
8393 | Did God create evil? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5559
Boy! Cephas, you have taken a lot of heat trying to get an answer to this question. I think I understand your problem with people trying to answer it with what you call doctrine. Orthodoxy in his/her answer is on the right path but stopped short. John 1:3 "All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being." For “free will” to be meaningful we had to given a choice, follow God (good) or not to follow God (evil). How do we reconcile all of this with our understanding that God is a good God? Isaiah 55:8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. We have to trust God. What seems unjust or unfair to us may be God’s way of leading us to a greater victory and greater rewards. |

8394 | what is his image? | Gen 1:26 | EdB | 5280
I believe what is being said in the statement "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness" is, we are create in God's essence. By this I mean we were given similar attributes like emotions, values, and feelings. Of course God's attributes are much stronger and purer because He is God the creator of them. Likewise ours have become tainted by sin, however I think they make up who and what we are.
8395 | How much should we give? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5121
This issue has been discussed in every form ever since Paul said we are no longer under the law. Let’s face facts you don’t get something for nothing. If we want to sit in a nice building and have heating, cooling and lights take takes money. If we want good music, a good children’s education program, youth activities, and other church programs that takes money. If we want to have a Pastor that is able to drop everything to rush to our side at the hospital, accident site, or death bed that takes money. If we want someone to teach us, counsel us, baptize us, marry us and bury us that takes money. A wise man once told me always “pay” for your seat. We expect to pay and do pay for our seats when we attend ball games, operas, stage shows, movies, seminars, colleges and airline travels why are we so reluctant to pay for our churches, church programs and Pastors? Some say a tithe is like a tax and so it is. If we didn't pay taxes we wouldn't have schools, roads, fire and rescue. If we don't pay our tithe how can we expect to have our churches? In Malachi 3:8-11 God issues us a challenge He said test me in this, see if I don’t reward you in your giving. I never understood why so many seem to be afraid to try this. If you give and God doesn’t keep His word you can quit, but when God does fulfill this promise you may want to step up your giving. God does not care how much you give; God cares how much you keep for yourself. It shows where your heart is. John the Baptist gave us a clue of what God expects in the New Testament Saints when he said, if your brother has need of a coat and you have two give him one.” Luke 3:11 |

8396 | Is being "slain in the spirit" biblical? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 5119
Hank Hanergraaff in his excellent book Counterfeit Revival investigated this phenomenon and discusses his findings. I think anyone truly seeking an answer to this question and to others concerning the move of the Spirit would do well to read this book. I will not say Hanergraaff is 100 percent correct in everything he says, but he opens doors that should not be shut without more investigation on the readers part. I agree with the analysis that Steve Butler provided, however I will add that I believe that God can do anything He wants. If God desires someone to be slain in the Spirit they will be slain in the Spirit. However I also believe if God is doing it, you will probably fall on your face, not backward, and be crying out for mercy. |

8397 | Any other thoughts? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 4787
GMSmith101 Thanks for your input, it is appreciated. As you know the debate as to whether the church will be here on earth during the tribulation has been going on for years. Most people either believe in Pre-Trib the church is raptured before the beginning of the Tribulation. Or Mid-Trib where the church will be raptured out in the middle of the Tribulation. My question is not so much whether the church will go into the tribulation my question is will any saints remain at the end? Reading the Book of Revelation leaves me with the opinion that no believer will be alive on earth at the end of the Tribulation. I think the verses you reference do indeed talk about the tribulation, and I thank you for bringing them up. But in verse 30 of that same chapter it says, “And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.” Matthew 24:30 The word MOURN sticks out. Since Jesus’ return is at the end of the Tribulation and it says ALL will mourn, I think that is a clue there isn’t any believers on earth. Please consider verse 31 it says “And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.” Matthew 24:31 It specifies four winds from one end of sky to the other. It isn’t talking the four winds of the earth. NKJV replaces “sky” with “heaven”. Again a clue that there won’t be any saints left on earth. Please let me submit these three verses 1 Thessalonians 1:10 and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come. 1 Thessalonians 1:16 hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved; with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the utmost. 1 Thessalonians 5:9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, I believe they tell us we are not to endure God’s wrath yet in Rev. 15:7 “Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever.” So again I think this is saying the believers will be gone by this time. I know some may interpret God’s wrath to mean God’s judgement and that believers are in fact spared from God’s judgement. I think there is a big difference between God’s wrath seen poured out on earth in the tribulation and the justice that will be meted out at the Great White throne. Please, any other thoughts? |

8398 | Will saints come through the tribulation | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 4765
Prayon I can hear your heart in this and I agree that God will give every chance for people to be saved. I'm not denying that people will be saved during the tribulation (I believe it will mostly be Jews and in much small numbers than is the current popular teaching). I'm just saying from what I read in the Bible, implies to me the cost of that "last chance" will be their lives as they are martyred or die from other causes. You also said God would permit some to remain to do his work. Quite frankly if voices from Heaven above proclaiming the holiness and wrath of God doesn't convince people, I fail to believe even a gifted orator and preacher of the caliber of Spurgeon would have much of an effect. Does anyone see scripture that states or implies there will be saints that live through the Tribulation?
8399 | Are there saints that willl come through | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 4754
Is there going to be tribulation saints that are able to live through the the tribulation? If there is then I can probably agree they will be the ones in the Millennium. However the only evidence that I find in the Revelation says the saints of Christ will be martyred, die in the seal, trumpet or bowl judgements or starve being unable to get food without the mark. Is there anywhere that gives the impression there will be some saints come through the tribulation? Or do we assume that because of teachings on the Millennium?
8400 | Should the Bible be taken literally? | Bible general Archive 1 | EdB | 4711
I will probably be accused of beating a dead horse but let me ask my question once more. Should the Bible be taken literally? By that I mean in some passages some men say, “this particular passage is only addressing a problem brought about by a custom or tradition of the time and does not pertain to the church today.” Again I hesitate to point to a specific passage, but let me cite one that is less inflammatory there are many other examples. God in his wisdom told the Jews not to eat pork. I have heard the reason for this was bad sanitation of the time and pork’s susceptibility to parasites. I also heard that because they didn’t have refrigeration and that pork spoiled quickly as being another reason. Another said that they weren’t able to cook the meat completely and so forth. I think we have all heard such examples. We also all know that the prohibition did not apply gentile believers, and that various other passages clearly tell us as Christians we are not under the law and the old dietary prohibitions, and that God has made all thing clean, etc. However we also now know that pork probably isn’t the best thing for us to eat and God may have reasons for the prohibition we never considered. God might have included that just to see who would be faithful in the small things. The truth be known we just don’t know why God gave this prohibition to the Jews. Let’s not get into a discussion of whether we should eat pork or not. Please this question is not whether we should eat pork or not. My question is if God through his faithful servants writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit says “thus and such”. Should we attempt to apply man’s logic to what God said and if being able to do so, upon finding out our theorized situation no longer exist should we then ignore the scripture? |
