83 | Jehonadab, What Think Ye of Christ? | Not Specified | Hank | 101096 | ||
Jehonadab, in Post #100809 I asked you a question which you have not answered. Perhaps you didn't see it. The question had to do with your belief about Christ. Do you acknowledge the full deity of Christ? Do you believe that Christ is very God, or do you believe He is a god, as John 1:1 in the New World Translation says? Do you believe that Christ is the sole means of salvation, that no one comes to the Father but by His Son, Jesus Christ? --Hank | ||||||
84 | On What Should the Sinner Focus? | Not Specified | Hank | 103340 | ||
On what should the sinner focus -- the Cross or a baptismal pool? Which saves -- the precious blood of Christ shed on the Cross or a pool of water? What is the core message of the gospel of Christ -- Jesus saves or water saves? What must one do to be saved -- believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, or must he DO something himself, such as getting himself baptized? --Hank | ||||||
85 | When Is Enough Enough? | Not Specified | Hank | 103731 | ||
Dear Friends, Brothers and Sisters of the Forum: This morning I received a distrubing e-mail message from American Family Association. The Federal Communications Commission has aproved the use of the "F" word by all TV shows and radio programs, ANYTIME DAY OR NIGHT. When is enough enough, and what can Christians do about it? While we still have the liberty to do so, we can protest vigorously to the FCC and to our senators and representatives. We can protest to the TV and radio stations that broadcast verbal pornography. We can boycott sponsors who pay the media for broadcasting filth. We can refuse to watch TV or listen to radio programs that broadcast vile language, explicit sex, and raw violence. And we can pray that God will bring this nation to repentence and a moral and spiritual awakening. But we must not, we simply cannot afford to, sit back and let the dark forces of evil invade the sanctity of our Christian homes and dump their garbage in our minds and in the minds of our children and grand-children. I submit that for today at least our time would be better spent in prayer and peaceful protest than in posting our opinions of Scripture on the Forum. Yours in Christ Jesus, --Hank | ||||||
86 | Christian Activism? | Not Specified | Hank | 109706 | ||
The chairman and board members of the FCC have recently reversed their decision to allow the 'f' word to be used on the nation's airways. Massive protests by Christian men and women are in no small measure responsible for this 180 degree turnaround by the FCC. My question is, do you think it is Christians' responsibility to be activists and to do whatever they can to oppose sin publicly and vigorously by all legal and non-violent means available? [Where I stand: I enthusiastically applaud the action that put pressure on the FCC which effected a recission of their former ruling. I played a small role in it through the American Family Association (AFA)] --Hank | ||||||
87 | A man of God? | Not Specified | Hank | 121160 | ||
What does it mean to be a man of God? The term is fairly common in the Old Testament but rare in the New Testament. Please answer the question by giving Bible examples and Bible definitions, not by saying something that begins, "I believe the term means...." --Hank | ||||||

What does the Bible say about the purpose of prayer? --Hank | ||||||

90 | Will You Accept This Challenge? | Not Specified | Hank | 150884 | ||
---PLEASE LET THIS POST HANG HERE WITHOUT RESPONSE SO THAT OTHERS MAY SEE IT AND HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE IT OFFERS.----First, go to http://www.bible-researcher.com/codex-b.html. Second, read the introductory material. Third, scroll down until you come to a sample of the text of the Codex itself. Fourth, translate the sample into modern clear English, complete with proper punctuation and capitalization. ..... It is rather short, involving only one complete verse of Scripture and fragments of two other verses. It should pose no problem at all to the denizens of the Forum who are experts in translating, punctuating, and capitalizing Scripture. ...... POSTSCRIPT: Did this exercise help anyone to acknowledge the enormous debt we owe to the hundreds of dedicated translators who have devoted their lives to the task of bringing us a translation of God's word into our own language that is as transparent of the original-language manuscripts as they can produce? ..... Did it illustrate the utter folly of hacks who, presuming to know more than seasoned scholars who have spent their lives pouring over the ancient manuscripts, have the audacity to challenge and even change the decisions of translation, punctuation and capitalization that whole teams of scholars have agreed upon? ........ Ladies and gentlemen, the sponsor of this Forum is the Lockman Foundation. Lockman's chief aim is not Forums but the translation and distribution of the Scriptures. One of their finest achievements is the NASB, than which no other major translation in English is more literally accurate. Lockman has a high view of Scripture and we owe them our thanks and appreciation, not only for for the work they have done and continue to do in translating the Scriptures, but in making this Study Bible Forum possible. One way each of us can show his thanks and appreciation to the fine folks at the Lockman Foundation is by honoring the guidelines set forth for one's personal conduct on their Forum. And by the way, the Lockman Foundation is a not-for-profit organization. Unlike so many publishers of religious materials, Lockman is not in this enterprise to make big bucks! Soli Deo gloria! --Hank | ||||||
91 | Who Holds the Key to Church's Survival? | Not Specified | Hank | 176824 | ||
"Since the time of Christ, the church's survival has depended upon its ability to successfully communicate the gospel to the next generation." ..... This was the lead-off statement in an e-mail advertisement I received today from a popular vendor of religious literature. Please critque the statement in light of what the Bible teaches about the church, the body of Christ. Does the statement seem to place the perpetuity of the church in man's hands or in God's? Is the statement scripturally sound? ..... In keeping with the guidelines of SBF, please back up your answers with Bible references. --Hank | ||||||
92 | FORUM MEMBERS: MESSAGE ABOUT POSTING | Not Specified | Hank | 177355 | ||
Note to all Forum users - When you write a post, whether a question, answer or note, press the submit button ONLY ONCE. Otherwise you will create multiple entries of the same post. This is particularly confusing when you ask a question, because it usually results in more than one thread being created for the same question. This makes it difficult for even seasoned users to follow the sequence of answers and notes involving your question and well nigh impossible for newcomers to follow. So please remember, press the submit button only once and be patient while your submission is being processed. ...... Dear Cheri :: It is disturbing to learn of any experience on Study Bible Forum that saddens the heart of its registrants. Other responders, among them Azure and Tim, have expressed their thoughts quite candidly and quite well, and it seems to me that both of them have made a valid point when they point out that just because your question-request was not responded to doesn't necessarily mean that no one read it or that no one acted upon it, but that it was left untouched, thus keeping it foremost on the home page, so that other readers would be afforded the opportunity to see it. ...... Regarding your point about the Forum's absorption in trivialities, I believe it has merit and should be taken to heart by us all who post on SBF, newcomers and veterans alike. It is easy and tempting, but always unwise, to allow ourselves to veer off course and become absorbed in things that are really quite trivial and contribute nothing of value to the readers of this Forum -- things like engaging in petty spats, quarrels and debates, disagreeing over things that really don't matter all that much, or simply indulging in idle chit-chat. We have clear guidelines that have been laid down by the Lockman Foundation. It behooves each of us to do his utmost to folow them. Thanks, Cheri, for expressing your concerns. Whether you choose to remain or go away is, of course, your decision to make, not ours. But I do hope that you will pray about it fervently and proceed accordingly. May God continue His blessings upon you, your daughter and your extended family. --Hank | ||||||

Val :: Kind words well written. Thanks for your participation on SBF, Val. Your presence is keenly felt. You are an asset and a blessing to this Forum. Down here in the Ozarks where I live, most of us don't have one of them there fancy red carpets to welcome folks with. But we say to our favorite folks what I will now say to you: Howdy, neighbor, it's mighty fine to have you with us. Won't you come in and sit a spell with us, and have a cool drink of spring water?" Now you have been officially welcomed the Ozark way. Nice, ain't it? :-) Blessings, sister. --Hank | ||||||
