31 | Worship service or performance? | Not Specified | Hank | 7470
Dear Saints, I wonder....In many churches in our land, it has become common practice to applaud. Applaud the choir. Applaud a soloist. Applaud the preacher when he makes a good point. Applaud just about everything but the collection plate :-).....What are your thoughts about this practice? Does it enhance the worship of God or detract from it? Is the worship service being turned into a performance? Is there any Scripture that might be applied to support or refute the practice? --Hank
32 | Dietary value of dietary laws? | Not Specified | Hank | 7841
The question is NOT to argue any theological aspects of the Old Testament dietary laws. Theology aside, were there any strictly dietary, nutritionally-based reasons for them? Do these dietary laws have any nutritionally-based value today in light of what we supposedly know about what foods are good and what foods are bad for us? --Hank
33 | After Salvation, What? | Not Specified | Hank | 8180
Most, if not all of us, on the forum seem to be in general agreement about what we must do to be saved. But after salvation, what obligations does the new Christian incur in his or her walk with Christ? To recaste the question, what comes after salvaton -- what do we do next? --Hank
34 | After Salvation, What? (A correction) | Not Specified | Hank | 8181
Begging your pardon and correcting a typo in my question about After Salvation, What? The phrase "recaste the question" should read "recast the question." "Recaste" sounds like I was trying to say something about a "caste system" and not succeeding very well. --Hank
35 | Called to Preach -- What is it like? | Not Specified | Hank | 8183
Having never been "called to preach" I confess total ignorance of what the experience is like. Since some of you are preachers, having answered the call, would any of you like to share with the rest of us what the experience of being called to preach is like? Is it something that occurs in a moment or is it a continuing call that keeps calling until answered? I think your answers would be instructive to members of the forum. I know they would to me. --Hank

40 | Let's talk about prayer | Not Specified | Hank | 9190
Dear Forum Friends, this entry on prayer is like a fork with many tines, and you are invited to pick your favorite "tine" and talk about it. The topic of prayer has been dealt with on the forum to a certain degree, but no exhaustive study has been made. Prayer is something that every Christian talks about but few do enough of. So let's study prayer....... What is it?........ Why do we pray? ..... How should we pray? ...... Does God hear our prayers?..... Does He respond to them? ...... What can prayer do? ...... Does prayer have any limitations? ..... How often should we pray?..... What does "pray without ceasing" mean? ..... Can a Christian be an effective witness without prayer? ..... Why is the phrase "Thy will be done" a necessary part of prayer? .....Must absolute faith accompany prayer (please discuss reasons for your answer) ...... What kinds of prayer are there (praise, intercession, etc.) and what is the reason for each kind? ...... Does the Bible command, condemn, or is it silent on the practice of praying for the dead? ..... How powerful is the power of prayer? .... What has been your experience with prayer -- have you had prayers answered, not answered, or put "on hold"? ..... How has prayer affected your life?..... Have you found it difficult to pray at times? ...... Have you ever felt that your prayers were just not getting through to God? .... Should prayers be more fervent and more frequent during times of crisis or despair? ...... What priority do you think the Bible places on prayer? ..... Did Jesus often put prayer on the "back burner" and focus his attention on other matters? ..... Is it wrong to pray for our personal career and financial success?..... Is it wrong to pray for something we want badly -- a new car or home, a better job, a husband or wife, children, etc.?..... Is prayer a vital part of your day, every day?..... I pray that these questions will act as a springboard to a thorough and Bible-based examination and study of the topic of prayer. --Hank
