83 | Is The Quote In The Bible? Where? | Deut 23:18 | azurelaw | 232001
Dear Gill Fisher, I am afraid it could be difficult to properly associate Deut 23:18 with the old lady's quote (from her memory in her youth) even though she mentioned her pastor quoted that statement many times in his preaching. We could not know why her pastor quote such a statement without knowing the context of his sermons. We understand that secular world like to borrow a bit of the idea from a Bible verse and twist it for their own application. So, my thought is that we cannot be TOO serious about the secular usage. If it is not in the Bible, then just simply tell the lady "NO". Meanwhile, her pastor quoted such statement many times do not necessary mean that it is really a Bible verse. Shalom Azure |

86 | The passion of our Lord Jesus Christ | Matt 26:39 | azurelaw | 231854
In memory of Christ's suffering and resurrection ********************* “When Scripture speaks to us of our salvation it proposes to us three aims. One is that we recognize the inestimable love God has shown toward us, so that He may be glorified by us as He deserves. Another, that we hold our sin in such detestation as is proper, and that we be sufficiently ashamed to humble ourselves before the majesty of our God. The third, that we value our salvation in such a manner that it makes us forsake the world and all that pertains to this frail life, and that we be overjoyed with that inheritance which has been acquired for us at such a price. This is what we ought to fix our attention upon and apply our minds to when it is mentioned to us how the Son of God has redeemed us from eternal death and has acquired for us the heavenly life. “ “…... we must bear in mind, that the Son of God in crying out “Father, if it be possible, let this drink be removed from me” considers not only what He had to suffer in His body, nor the disgrace of men, nor leaving the earth (for that was easy enough for Him), but He considers that He is before God and before His judicial throne to answer for all our sins, to see there all the curses of God which are ready to fall upon us. For even if there be only a single sinner, what would the wrath of God be? When it is said that God is against us, that He wants to display His power to destroy us, alas! where are we then? Now it was necessary for Jesus Christ to fight not only against such a terror but against all the cruelties one could inflict. ……Let us …… realize how costly our salvation was to Him and how precious our souls were to Him when He was willing to go to such an extremity for our sakes, and knowing what we deserved let us look at what would have been our condition — if we had not been rescued by Him. And yet let us rejoice that death has no more power over us that could hurt us.” --- John Calvin |

Dear Jlalli, You ask: So are u saying not to go to church until one is perfect ? I was worrying that my post could be mis-interpreted as an advice to the original quesioner. That's why I said : "My post is not intended to answer the original question of lovingmother's but to address my concern on your statement which could mislead readers that they may still be saved if they stay in the habitual sinful life without any regret or repantence." In fact, I completely agree with your advice and encouragement to her for going to church. Whether she has completely overcome her addiction or not, by all means, she should go to a donctrinally sound, loving and caring church. (1 Peter 5:8, Heb 10:25) Shalom Azure |

Dear Jlalli, You say : "My thought is God accepts us all as we are and you can go to church as an addict or saint." I am sure you said so with good intention and yet I am afraid it is very misleading. If God accepts us all as we are, He would not have sent His only beloved Son to LIVE A PERFECT LIFE FOR US and DIE FOR OUR SIN. Don't just read V16 of the Gospel according to John, read through to V21 at least. Meanwhile, according to the context of chapter 3, in the beginning section, notice what Jesus said in V3 "born anew". A truly born again Christian will have a change in his/her life, though most of the time the change is little by little, and failures are enountered as well. Yet, he/she will not love the old life anymore. His/her hatre of sin will grow together with his/her love for the Lord. My post is not intended to answer the original question of lovingmother's but to address my concern on your statement which could mislead readers that they may still be saved if they stay in the habitual sinful life without any regret or repantence. God is love, for sure; but He also is justice. Sin has no place before His eyes. I've learn from an elder brother who once shared with me something like this: A believer must have a right relationship with God before he/she could have a right relationship with others (include oneself). So, to expand that thought, we may only properly love ourselves or others when we have a right relationship with God. To quote (from my memory, wordings could vary a bit) from what Paul Washer said: Don't tell me that you have a good relationship with God unless you can tell me what is your relationship with sin. Shalom Azure |

Dear Aslans Friend, Could you provide relevant scripture for your statement explanation on 'Fall from Grace': "When you fall from Grace, you don't care any more what the consequences of sin are; you are insensitive."? You say: "As long as you have breath within you God is willing to forgive you." Could you please elaborate what do you mean by that? Thank you. Shalom Azure |

Dear Armond, With the view that the host Lockman provides all participants with the TOU guidelines and your longtime participation on the forum, whether Doc or whoever on the forum holding the monitoring role - does that matter you? Please do not be offended as I don't see the point to know who is monitoring the forum (you are not the only person asking the question) as long as we stick to the TOU and the Biblical truth. Proverbs 27:17 1 Thes 5:11 Shalom Azure |

Dear Brother Doc, Thank you for the quote. When I read it, I was wondering or guessing Dr. D. A. Carson could have the same thought when he wrote his introduction for his book "Exegetical Fallacies" where he warns readers to pay utmost effort, care and diligence in studying the Word, but also encourages us to work hard for improvement instead of drawing back for the avoidance of making mistake. Ignorance though sometimes could be an excuse for people to content in their comfort zone, yet, it is never regarded as a virtue. Shalom Azure |
