81 | Was Melchizedek Jesus? | Genesis | Ray | 79754
Hi JLY, Welcome to the forum. I agree with the post from Emmaus. Personally, I could find nothing of value in comparing Scriptures when I counted Melchizedek pronouns as Deity. He definitely was a type of Christ. Hebrews 7:3, NKJ, "without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, remains a priest continually." Or, my rendering for what it is worth (penciled in), "made like the Son of God, *He abides a *Priest perpetually." From the heart, Ray |

82 | Searching for the truth | Genesis | Ray | 91546
Hi FytRobert, You misquoted Radioman 2 by putting spirit in the lower case. Romans 8:11, NKJ, "But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His (Spirit) who dwells in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors--not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the **Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live." Colossians 1:27, "...which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in (Christ). And for this purpose also I labor, striving according to **His power, which mightily works within me." It is in the working of Christ and the power of the Spirit that we labor and live. The parentheses and stars are mine for comparison. From the heart, Ray |

83 | Searching for the truth | Genesis | Ray | 108931
Hi Fyt Robert, If you go to the Ask Questions Action section and type in Genesis 1:26 or 27 you will find that this has been discussed quite a bit. You wrote as a misquote or typo for Genesis 1:26, "God said "Let us make man in our images, in our likeness...". The "images" should be a singular "image". I also like to capitalize the "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness." I know that God is speaking in Genesis 1:26 and I know that man was made in the image of God because of verse 27. I like to think of "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness" as being the words of the Man, Jesus Christ. I compare this phrase with Colossians 1:16, "For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created by Him and for Him." I compare the phrase "Let Us..." with John 1:1,2, "...and the Word was God. This One was in the beginning..." 1) Scriptures that were offered in the other threads for Genesis 1:26 were these, and I offer them (with slashes) for comparisons. Genesis 1:27, "...in the image of God/ He created him; male and female He created them." Colossians 3:9,10, "Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, 10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One/ who created him-- 11 a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all." 1 Corinthians 12:24b, "...But God/ has so composed the body, giving more abundant honor to that member which lacked, that there should be no division in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another... 27 Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it." Ephesians 5:29, "for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ/ also does the church, 30 because we are members of His body." Ephesians 4:24, "and put on the new self which in the likeness of God/ has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth." 1 Samuel 2:2, "There is no one holy like the Lord, Indeed, there is no one besides Thee,/ Nor is there any rock like our God." 85 | Please explain the Trinity | Gen 1:2 | Ray | 77340
Hi sisterkath, I read the first chapter of Genesis tonight and counted the pronouns of Deity. As always I saw the Trinity in the fact that the total was divisible by three. I read the first three verses of the gospel of John and their total pronoun count was divisible by three. This affirms for me the Trinity. I would suggest that you go to your favorite translation of the Scriptures and consider that the Spirit is more than an active force. He is a Person of the Trinity. You make that "active force" into a Spirit and you will understand the Trinity. I suggest you go to your New World Translation and in studying the first verse of John consider that the Word was Spirit with God and that the Word was more than a god. You make that god into God and know that He [that One] was in the beginning with God; then you can understand the Trinity. When you have that settled in your mind, come back and talk with us some more. I for one will be more than happy to preach the Trinity to you. From the heart, Ray |

86 | why did God have to create light? | Gen 1:3 | Ray | 77695
Hi dayoak, Welcome to the forum. In the beginning we see the triune God created the heavens and the earth. "And the Spirit of (God) was moving over the surface of the waters." 1) Genesis 1:3, "Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light." Genesis 1:26, "Let Us make man ..." 2) Gen 1:4, "And God saw that the light was good;..." Gen 1:26, "...in Our image,..." 3) Gen 1:4, "...and God separated the light from the darkness." Gen 1:26, "...according to Our likeness;..." 4) Gen 1:4, "And God called the light day,..." Gen 1:27, "And God created man..." 5) Gen 1:4, "...and the darkness *He called night." [Man was to fall into sin] Gen 1:27, "...in *His own image, in the image of God/ He created him. Here we see the (Light) of the world in creation. John 12:46, "I have come AS light into the world, that everyone who believes in Me/ may not remain in darkness." From the heart, Ray |

87 | Light and Stars | Gen 1:16 | Ray | 7997
Hi Lionstrong, I hope some of His light will be shed on this forum. What we need is a good word study on "light". Strong's concordance has three columns of references. I think that His light has been shed abroad since the first day don't you? He dwells in unapproachable Light; whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen. 1Timothy 6:15 |

88 | In Gen 1, who is us referring to? | Gen 1:26 | Ray | 38336
Hi deola, Welcome to the forum. I encourage you to use the NASB in your study of the Scriptures for just the capitalization that is incorporated will help in the understanding. I think of the Man, Jesus Christ when I read in the 26th verse, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness..." The Man, Jesus Christ was totally God and thus it is indeed the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit speaking just as the Amplified version above says. God also created man in the spiritual image of God. Genesis 6:3, "Then the Lord said, "My Spirit/ shall not always strive with man forever, because he also is flesh;..." or as the margin says, [Or, in his going astray he is flesh] It is this same Spirit of God who had to thwart the purposes of the people in Genesis 11:7, "Come, let Us/ go down and there confuse their language, that they may not..." I think that the creation was the work of the Spirit also for the heavenly hosts were part of the work which He had done. Genesis 2:1, "Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. And by the seventh day God completed His work which (He) had done;..." Parentheses mine for comparison. Some verses to compare and contrast would be: Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep; and the Spirit of (God) was moving over the surface of the waters." Genesis 1:26, "The (God) said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness..." Genesis 1:28, "And (God) blessed them;..." Genesis 2:2, "And by the seventh day God completed His work which (He) had done;..." Genesis 2:4, "This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created in the day that the Lord (God) made earth and heaven." Genesis 2:19, "And out of the ground the Lord (God) formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them;..." Genesis 3:22, "Then the Lord God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of (Us), knowing good and evil;..." Genesis 6:6, "And the (Lord) was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart." Contrast 1:26 Genesis 6:6, "But Noah found favor in the eyes of the (Lord)." Genesis 7:5, "And Noah did according to all that the (Lord) had commanded him." I hope some of that was of interest. From the heart, Ray |

89 | WHAT DOES 2PETER1:4 MEAN AND IS THERE A | Gen 1:26 | Ray | 148435
Hi FUTURES, Welcome to the forum. I hope that in the future you will write in both lower and upper case so you don't SHOUT. You have mail. Sometimes posts get sent to the wrong person (as here 1-2steve meant to write you). And remember to check your question for answers often because you will not be notified unless a post is specifically to you. 1) 2 Peter 1:3, "...who called us by (His) own glory and excellence." Genesis 1:26, "Then (God) said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;..." ******* James 3:9, "With it we bless our (Lord) and Father; and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of **God; Genesis 1:26, "Then (God) said, "Let Us make man in **Our image, according to Our likeness." ******* 2 Peter 3:14, "But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. 14 Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by (Him) in peace, spotless and blameless." 1 John 2:27, "And as for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as (His) anointing teaches you about all things..." ******** 2 Peter 1:10, "Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain His/ calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble." Colossians 3:9, "Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, 10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One/ who created him." 90 | genesis 1:26 and 2:18 | Gen 2:18 | Ray | 64589
Hi antonio, If one were to count the pronouns in the first chapter of Genesis, he would obtain a number divisible by three. I agree with Searcher for his answer that God is Three in One. But each pronoun of Deity is talking about God; so I would not say that we can blame only one of the Persons for making "woman". :) That was a joke; I am happily married to a great woman. (Sorry for answering you here, Searcher.) If one were to look again at the first chapter of Genesis he/she would find three individual pronouns which say "God created". They are Genesis 1:1,21,and 27. If we compare Genesis with the gospel of John we see that the Spirit or the Word was in the beginning with God. Personally, I see the Word [Man] in Genesis 1:26, "Let *Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness." We, male and female, were created in the image of God. We know God by looking at His Son, the Man Jesus Christ. But again, each pronoun of Deity in the Scriptures talks about God. For example, 1 Corinthians 11:12, "For as the woman originates from the man, so also the man has his birth through the woman; and all things originate from God." If you are looking for another "Us" (and I urge you to study using a version that capitalizes pronouns concerning God), then look at and compare Genesis 3:22 with Genesis 1:26. Genesis 1 gives the introduction of our Triune God and a general picture of the creation. God made the male first, but both male and female were created in the image of God. Genesis 1:26, "Then (God) said, "Let *Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;..." Parentheses mine for comparison. Genesis 3:22, "Then the Lord (God) said, "Behold, the man has become like one of *Us, knowing good and evil;..." This comparison should show you that God sees both the male and female as being in His image and that they both have the knowledge of good and evil here by the end of chapter 3. Looking back at the beginning of chapter three we can see that the crafty serpent was not made in the image of God and was telling them lies. Genesis 3:1, "Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord (God) had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has *God said, 'You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?" And the woman said to the serpent, "From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat from it or touch it, lest you die.'" And the serpent said to the woman, "You shall not die! For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened,..." Mankind, male and female, are capable of seeing right and wrong. Ephesians 2:4, "But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with (Christ) (by grace you have been saved),..." Ephesians 2:8, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of (God);...For we are *His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,..." I hope that this has been helpful. Welcome to the forum. From the heart, Ray |

91 | Define "Naphal" | Gen 2:21 | Ray | 63020
Hi Strait2Him, Welcome to the forum. The following is a quote from the book by Al Novak, "Hebrew Honey", copyright l965, l987, Library of Congress card no. 64-252876. That book is in my library and I recommend it; he also has written "More Hebrew Honey" card no. 66-24015. FALL: "And the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me; and said unto me, Speak; Thus saith the Lord...", (Ezek. 11:5). Naphal, the Hebrew root for fall, has several meanings. This root is used to express falling from a horse--Gen. 49:17; falling into a pit--Ps.7:15; falling in battle--Isa. 10:4. This root is used to report seeing of visions sent from God in sleep--Num. 24:4. This divine precipitation will quicken the soul. It is used to describe the falling of the countenance--Gen. 4:5,6. Sorrow, disappointment and other depressants will cause this. It means to descend, as divine revelations from heaven, Dan. 4:28; as the Spirit of God upon any one--Ezek. 11:5. This is the primary requisite of a pentecostal revival. It means to end, i.e., how the thing will fall out--Ruth 3:18. It means expression of emotion, as falling upon one's neck in embrace--Gen. 33:4. It is used to describe prayer, i.e., the falling of one's supplications before the Lord--Jer. 42:2. It means to desert, to fall away, to go over to another party--Jer. 37:14. It means an abortion--Jer. 3:16. A premature birth, or miscarriage is to fall from the womb too early. End of quote. There is a lot of information in the book and I trust that that would be helpful. From the heart, Ray |

92 | What is God saying in this verse? | Gen 3:15 | Ray | 107639
Hi Hallie, I go with the NASB on this passage when it leaves in lower case the word "seed". The style of their format leaves "He shall bruise" in question, but "he shall bruise" should agree with "you shall bruise him". So the word seed and the two pronouns of him I leave in lower case and do not think of them as Deity. I would say that everyone is at enmity with the serpent whether we are aware of it or not. We can bruise him and he can bruise us, but the important thing to remember is that he is defeated in the end because of Christ. Romans 16:20, "And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet." There is a difference between the bruises that we can inflict and the crushing that God does on our behalf. 95 | wHO WAS DAVID TALKING TO IN PSALMS 133:1 | Gen 13:8 | Ray | 64438
Hi Forgiven, I like the two Scripture references given for your verse in my Study Bible. It gives us the idea of how the Scriptures relate to the past and the future. Genesis 13:1, "So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev, he and his wife and all that belonged to him; and Lot with him. Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver and gold. And he went on his journeys from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, to the place of the altar, which he had made there formerly, AND THERE Abram called on the name of the Lord. Now Lot, who went with Abram, also had flocks and herds and tents. And the land could not sustain them while dwelling together; for their possessions were so great that they were not able to remain together. And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abraham's livestock and the herdsmen of Lot's livestock...Gen. 13:8, Then Abram said to Lot, "Please let there be no strife between you and me, nor between my herdsmen and your herdsmen, for we are brothers." Psalm 133:1, "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brothers to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, Coming down upon the beard, Even Aaron's beard, Coming down upon the edge of his robes. It is like the dew of Hermon, Coming down upon the mountains of Zion; FOR THERE the Lord commanded the blessing --life forever." Hebrews 12:28, "Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire. Heb 13:1, Let love of the brethren continue." |

96 | Relation to Galatians 3:16... | Gen 17:7 | Ray | 105566
Hi Gal5:16, Thank you for your question. It is always good to compare Scripture to Scripture and we your respondents have gained from your question. In my response I will have to go with the NKJ for Galatians 3:16. Galatians 3:14, NKJ, "that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit/ through faith... 16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your (Seed)," who is Christ. 17 And this I say, that the law which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect." Genesis 17:1, NASB, "Now when Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am God/Almighty; Walk before Me, and be blameless. And (I) will establish My covenant between Me and you, And I will multiply you exceedingly." The slashes and the parentheses are mine for comparisons. Comparisons of Genesis and Galatians and Colossians and Romans show how we are complete in (Christ), how we belong to (Christ), and they lead us to think of the circumcision of (Christ), and walking in (Him). (He) chose us, and the Spirit Himself witnesses with our spirit that we are children of (God). From the heart, Ray |

97 | Thanks, Follow - Up Question/Comment | Gen 17:7 | Ray | 105578
Hi Gal5:16, Are you still 5:16 or are you changing your name? The word translated "descendents" is literally "seed". I believe personally that it is that way so that there could be the duality of the promises. Abraham certainly had descendents plural. But the Seed that was promised was the promise of the Spirit through faith. Galatians 3:14 The Jews were looking for or should have been looking for the Son of David, the Son of Abraham, the Son of God. In other words, they were looking for the promised Messiah. 98 | Why did Abraham ask God to bless Ishmael | Gen 17:20 | Ray | 122895
Hi sixsmiths2, It is hard for us to know what Abraham was thinking about in verse 18. But I can hear God saying in verse 20, "Hey, I hear you. You are concerned about Ishmael." God hears us, and knows our needs before we express them. But I don't know what all Abraham had in mind. I would suppose that if someone today had fathered a son with permission of his wife with another woman, that that person would want the son to be recognized and blessed somehow. But God wanted Abraham to have faith and belief in Him who justifies the ungodly. Romans 4:5 God wanted to make Abraham a father of many nations and one who believes in the promises of God. Romans 4:20, "yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief, but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully assured that what He had promised, He was able also to perform." From the heart, Ray |

99 | Why were there THREE divine beings? | Gen 18:3 | Ray | 132262
Hi Chusarck, I don't believe that there is any significance to the number three for the men. For chapter 19 there are only two angels (also called men). What is of interest to me is that the men (angels) were doing the work of the Lord. They themselves were called "lords"; but they were doing the work of the Lord and He was among them. I agree with the NKJ for Genesis 18:3 and also as the NASB is printed above. Genesis 18:2, "And when he lifted up his eyes and looked, behold three men were standing opposite him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the earth, 3 and said, "My Lord, if now I have found favor in Your sight, please do not pass Your servant by." I agree with the NKJ also for Genesis 18:10, "And He [sic] said, "I will certainly return to you..." What I am saying is that the men were collectively recognized as the Lord when Abraham spoke to them. Genesis 19:17 is an indication that these things have been discussed through the years because there are varying manuscripts for that verse. In Genesis 19:18 Lot calls them "lords" and verse 19 I believe correctly interprets the pronouns in lower case, "Now behold, your [sic] servant has found favor in your [sic] sight..." These two angels in chapter 19 were also doing the work of the Lord. Genesis 19:24, "Then the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven, 25 And He overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground."
