81 | Shame?? What could this be? | Rom 10:9 | Parable | 47037
The apostle Pauls answers your first question: "...if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" --Romans 10:9 He also teaches that once we have accepted Christ, we are no longer condemned. "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" -- Romans 8:1 This means that we are no longer in bondage to sin, so we no longer need to have any fear that God accepts us into His Kingdom, even though we do not live perfect lives. But that doesn't mean we can do just anything we want and expect there to be no consequences, for doing bad things always leads to problems and we are always responsible for what we do, here and in heaven. As for being timid about your faith in front of others, this is natural. Fellowship with mature Christians will help you grow in faith and have more confidence with your testimony. Pray that God will give you strength, patience and wisdom to bring you through this difficult time. Parable |

82 | Whom should I direct my love and praise | John 14:5 | Parable | 47035
Christians believe that the one God is revealed to us in three persons, the Father, the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. This idea of one God in three persons is called the Trinity and is central to our faith. As you learn more about Christianity, you will see the nature of the Trinity is one of the things that makes Christianity special and unique in the world of faith. Each person of the Trinity is fully God, yet each has a distinct role in our lives. Jesus is our representative with the Father, yet because Christ lives in us and we are adopted into God's family through Jesus Christ, we are welcome to come before the Father. Also, in my daily life, I often ask the Holy Spirit to work His will through me. The Holy Spirit was sent by Jesus to be with us after he went to heaven to be with the Father. You should feel free to speak to each or all persons of the Trinity. God knows your heart and your needs even before you ask, and he wants to hear from you. I suggest you pray for God to guide you in your prayer life. Praise God! Parable p.s. GK, please, please be careful not to reveal ANY information about yourself that might help someone bad (yes, even at a bible website) to identify you, and never engage in private email conversations with anyone you don't know and trust personally, and NEVER NEVER go anywhere to meet anyone you meet over the web who tries to arrange a meeting. If anyone ever tries to arrange a meeting with you, say "no" and report them to the police, OK? Stay safe by staying anonymous. |

83 | Plants were created, and then stars? | Gen 1:14 | Parable | 46773
See "The Genesis Question" by Dr. Hugh Ross. Therein, he explains that current scientific understanding is consistent with the Genesis account of the creation of Earth. His argument is based on the premises that the initial conditions of the earth and perspective of the observer must be understood in a way that he supports well in his treatment. To summarize his thesis: 1. the perspective of the Genesis account is that of an observer on Earth, not someone viewing the creation of the entire cosmos from some astronomical location. 2. the initial conditions of the Genesis account are not the first stages of cosmic or even planetary formation, but rather when the opacity of the atmosphere prevents anyone from seeing the stars, and not that light or the stars were created then. I don't necessarily agree with everything Dr. Ross says later in the book, but I find his treatment of Genesis 1 to be quite reasonable. Furthermore, he espouses that ultimately, there will be no conflict with our scientific understanding of creation and what the Bible teaches and we must work to remove the supposed conflict between science and faith, surely an artificial stumbling block, from the paths of those who might otherwise come to faith in Christ. 84 | Christ and doctrines revealed to us? | John 15:16 | Parable | 46181
We do believe in progressive revelation, such as the foreshadowing of Christ in the OT followed by His Incarnation. In that sense, different groups (in time) receive different revelations. Perhaps it would help if you provided some examples of Bible doctrines that are "different" or somehow conflict in your mind. |

85 | Recognize Christ? | John 15:16 | Parable | 46164
Christ revealed HIMSELF to us. There is a 1:1 correspondence between what He said, what He did and Who He is. It is we who make doctrines in an effort to codify Christ, to organize His truth in a systematic way. Of course, some people such as Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, can do this with authority, but it is we who must read and understand what Paul wrote. Think about how different people remember the same event. Each person has their own view of it and each person interprets what they experienced in the context of their human condition. For this reason, I believe we are unreliable witnesses apart from God, and this explains why there are so many different ideas about what the Bible teaches. Even so, there are several fundamental truths that all Christians hold, if they be true Christians. Such include the Trinity, the divinity of Christ, the humanity of Christ, the forgiveness of sins, His resurrection, ascension and glorification. Regarding the interpretation of Revelation, I respectfully leave that to those who are much better qualified to speak about apocalyptic writing. |

86 | recognize Christ? | John 15:16 | Parable | 46060
Yes to both, sort of. Not only has He given us the truth, He IS the truth. We can do nothing for ourselves apart from Him, He has done it all for us, but not because He is "responsible" to, but out of love for us, by grace. There's another interesting point here; it has to do with the word "recognize". In a personal sense, to recognize is to identify as familiar. In a political sense, as in a public meeting or diplomacy, to recognize is to grant formal status or standing. I think your question involves both the personal and political senses of the word, not only when Christ recognizes us as his children, but also when we recognize Him as Lord. |

87 | How to forget my hurts and pains | 1 Peter | Parable | 46057
Forgiving them and praying for them are a good way to start the healing process. You may never be able to forget, but it is possible that God can make it so those memories no longer have any power over you. I suggest that you pray for yourself, (In the garden, Jesus prayed for himself),that you can be delivered from the pain of these memories, that those experiences can be used through you to further the Kingdom of God, that your recovery and reconcilation will be a witness to others of God's glory! There is nothing wrong with working out your recovery by talking, unless it becomes self-serving. Don't make your experiences a topic for gossip, and don't talk about them with just anyone or in just any way. It is possible that you may nurture and revitalize these hurts by revisiting them without putting them to rest. For this, perhaps speaking with your pastor or a trusted friend who is mature in Christ would be helpful. If you choose not to discuss these things with anyone, I fear you may become isolated, cutoff from the Body, vulnerable to spiritual attack. The book of 1Peter is all about HOPE. Check it out. |

88 | If Jesus became sin why is he in Heaven? | NT general Archive 1 | Parable | 46005
If I may add something to the excellent comments so far...when Christ died for us, He suffered not only physical death, but also spiritual death, i.e. separation from the Father. For the One who was so intimate with the Father as to call Him "Abba", this separation was more painful than we can possibly imagine. Also, from the Father's perspective, the loss of His only Son was infinitely real and infinitely grievous to Him. Because Christ's perfect sacrifice, made out of love for us, fulfilled the demands of justice on our behalf, the Father raised Christ from the ultimate death and glorified Him to confirm that the penalty for humanity was paid in full, all at once, for all.
89 | Would you have recognized Christ? | John 15:16 | Parable | 46002
Yes! I would recognize Him by His recognition of me, just like today. "You did not choose me, but I chose you..." --John 15:16 |

90 | Where does Jesus say He is God? | Bible general Archive 1 | Parable | 46000
Sometimes actions speak louder than words. To me, the following historical facts (or actions by God) clarify and confirm all the verses in which He describes Himself, which you suggest are lacking absolute certainty: All the "types" of Christ in the OT that foreshadow His Incarnation. His miraculous birth. His sinless life. His sacrificial, undeserved death. His resurrection. His ascension. His glorification. The Holy Spirit, as per Jesus' promise. and finally, I expect His return in glory will be the loudest, clearest statement He will ever make. You said "Jesus seems to let listeners/readers THINK what they want". I agree, that's why He asks "Who do YOU say I am?" -- Matthew 16:15 |

91 | more about tongues...? | 1 Corinthians | Parable | 45997
I don't have this gift, but I know many in my church who speak in tongues as a prayer language. (I have yet to see anyone speak in tongues to the congregation and have another interpret.) I find it beautiful and comforting to hear during group prayer. When I hear it from those around me at my church, I believe it reflects their relationship with the Spirit because I know more about them than just that they speak in tongues. Also, I am quite comfortable not speaking in tongues and have no desire for this gift. Why? Because we are in Christ and He is in us, the Holy Spirit is already upon us, evidence or no. There are many other ways besides tongues we can know of His indwelling and outpouring. Regarding tongues itself, studies by linguists confirm that the sounds spoken conform to the patterns of true language, and in blind-trials they can readily identify efforts to fake it; the structure and rythms just aren't the same. Speaking in tongues is real, but without the love of Christ, means nothing. I sense that you may be dealing with something larger than tongues. If I may speculate, be cautious of those who would try to convince you of anything by virtue of their speaking in tongues. The Holy Spirit needs no introduction! |

92 | Help. Someone's testamony has me upset | Bible general Archive 1 | Parable | 45518
Here's a fable as told by Watchman Nee, a noted Chinese evangelist who was falsely imprisoned for 20 years in China until his death, in his book "The Normal Christian Life". Fact, Faith and Experience, were walking along the top of a block wall with Fact leading the way. Fact walked steadfastly forward. So long as Faith remained focussed on Fact, Faith did not falter. But as soon as Faith turned around to look at Experience, Faith lost balance and stumbled and Experience soon followed. The facts of God, as revealed in His Word, most expecially His incarnation in Christ Jesus, will not fail you. The facts of God, as revealed to you by the Holy Spirit, will not fail you. 1John 4:12 "No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. 13We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit." On the other hand, feelings or experiences are fickle, changing like the the colors on a chameleon to match its surroundings. Remember, the fact is, you are in Christ; keep this foremost in your heart and your colors will reflect Him. We should seek to understand ourselves from God's perspective, and we should not seek to understand God from ours. Pray that He will keep you through these hard times and that He will use them to help you grow ever more abundantly in Him. He is REAL! |

93 | But what if his nightmares torment him? | Gal 5:16 | Parable | 45472
He should not try to CONTROL those experiences. Rather, he should appeal to God to bring him through them. Romans 5:3 "Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance". Your friend should rejoice in the Lord that He has blessed him with these experiences; they remind him of his deliverance out of darkness. If your friend were comfortable with these dreams and memories, it would show he was still in darkness. That he is troubled by thoughts of being in darkness shows that he is no longer a slave to those things. This reminds me of a similar situation. When recovering drug addicts have "using" dreams, it reaffirms their on-going recovery, but with the stern reminder that they have to work out their recovery each day. Your friend should view these experiences as direct evidence of God working in his life, reminding him of the reality and dire consequences of sin. This is called being "convicted" and is part of how God brings us to Himself. |

94 | What does this verse mean? | Ps 37:1 | Parable | 44684
Sometimes it helps to consult another translation and to look at the context of a verse (NIV) Psalm 37:1-4 1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; 2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. 3 Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. 4 Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. To me, this means, don't get upset over the actions of wicked people for their fate is certain. Instead, devote yourself to the Lord; you will be safe from the wicked, so there is no need to worry about what they do. |

95 | Parable, who in Matt 13:3-23 is saved? | Rom 7:1 | Parable | 44679
As I understand Jesus' explanation, the Word of God is the seed, we are the soil and the Kingdom of God (salvation) is the bountiful crops. Clearly, the first three examples of poor soil don't yield anything. Only the good soil produced crops, so those who are good soil, fertile for God's Word and fruitful, are saved. This proportion is reflected 7:13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. |

96 | If u r saved, can u become not saved? | Rom 7:1 | Parable | 44656
Perhaps Jesus' parable of the sower speaks to this question: Matthew 13: 3Then he told them many things in parables, saying: "A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. 8Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop--a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. 9He who has ears, let him hear." 10The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?" 11He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him." 18"Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away. 22The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful. 23But the one who received the seed that fell on good soil is the man who hears the word and understands it. He produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown." Amen. |

97 | Why carry on like a playground dispute? | Acts 1:3 | Parable | 44349
For an excellent discussion of how the Genesis account is consistent with current scientific understanding of planetary geology, see The Genesis Question, by Dr. Hugh Ross. For a list of scientific accuracies in the Bibe, see The Complete Book of Bible Lists, by Harold L. Wilmington. I agree with you that we must work to remove this "conflict". It is a stumbling block for many who might otherwise come to faith. We can be confident that the truth of God's Creation cannot be contrary to His Word. The question for us is, have we done our science right and have we divided the Word rightly? |

98 | Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. | Matt 12:23 | Parable | 44277
The "unpardonable sin" is saying the devil is responsible for the work of the Holy Spirit, see Matthew 12:23. Why this sin is unforgiveable lies not with God's unwillingness to forgive a penitent believer, but rather the obstinance of someone who is so hardened that they are unable to recognize the difference between God and the devil. Hence, its not that God won't pardon them if they repent, (whether they CAN repent is the subject of Hebrews) but rather, they can't accept God's pardon because they don't recognize Him or His authority to grant one. This is the most severe form of rejection that a person can make against God. The consequence of separation from God is spiritual death. If anyone worries about whether or not they have committed this sin, surely they have not, for if they had, they wouldn't care. |

100 | how do i pray and leave it with the lord | Prov 15:22 | Parable | 44125
Yes, take it to the Lord, AND to an addiction specialist. Nicotine is the most addictive substance known. It will take more than your will power for you to break its grip on you. In addition to spiritual healing, addicts almost always need education on the mental aspects of addiction as well as the physical. Also, if your doctor says its ok, start exercising vigorously for at least 30 minutes at least 3 times per week. Your victory over this addiction will be a glorious testimony to others. |
