Nolan, good stuff. In fact, if you start with (Isa 41:4) "Who has performed and accomplished it, Calling forth the generations from the beginning? 'I, the LORD, am the first, and with the last. I am He.'" This is God. Then (Isa 44:6) "Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: 'I am the first and I am the last, And there is no God besides Me." God again. Then (Isa 48:12) "Listen to Me, O Jacob, even Israel whom I called; I am He, I am the first, I am also the last." God again. Hop to Rev 1.8, and assume God as the speaker: (Rev 21:6) "Then He said to me, "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost." Either God or Jesus speaks here. Now back to (Rev 2:8) "And to the angel of the church in Smyrna write: The first and the last, who was dead, and has come to life, says this..." If you have a red letter bible, these letters ain't black. Can you beat this nifty proof without calling John, or Jesus, a liar? This JW thing is so warped. Colin |

"Anything but Jesus", might be a good slogan for world religion. "Bahai, we're anything but Jesus!" Okay, Christianity is a religion, but Jesus is my Lord and my God, not my religion. Anyway, I once posted a question to a certain JW Forumite along these lines: If Abraham was poised to sacrifice his own son, does he have more faith than God, who sacrificed only a creation, not even His own blood (check out Acts 20.23 in the NWT: "...to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with the blood of his own Son"). Whose sacrifice is greater Abraham's or God's? I never got an answer from the JW. Colin |

Humanity? Okay, but God did suffer and die on the cross; it's stated repeatedly in the NT (1 Cor 15:3,4 for ex.). That's how He defeated death: 1Co 15:57 "but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." Think about what God has done for us: that though He's infinitely powerful, He's also so infinitely humble that He seems never to ask anything of us that He hasn't already asked of Himself. What a beautiful God this is. Colin |

First, Christ is God; Christ suffered; therefore, God suffered. "He (God) now has a policy to express human emotions as a means to communicate with us." I never heard of this policy. Anthropopathy is defined by Webster as "The affections of man, or the application of human passions to the Supreme Being." 1 John 4.19 says, "We love Him because He first loved us." It does not say "He loves us because we first applied human passions to Him." Also, "God is never angry"? Do you read the bible? If not, please go to Proverbs 9:10: "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom..." "Fear" in Hebrew means exactly that, fear. Why should anyone fear a God who never gets angry? Or maybe He only feigns anger for our benefit. If so, was God lying all those OT times He claimed to be angry? The God you describe is too liberal for the bible. Colin |

Makarios, as theological reinforcement for believers this is already a good string, but I think your man is too hardened to repent. Be careful with your time; there are many legitimate truth seekers here (Matthew 7.6).

No, not you, it's your target that's hardened, Makarios. Colin |

Truthfinder, on the subject of worship, in your theology, is it possible for Abraham to have made a greater sacrifice than God? Colin |

Hello, Leo. Are you a Jehovah's Witness? If so, then your doctrine is spiritual death. If not, then why do you call the JW position on Jesus Christ, our Lord and our God (John 20.28), an "opinion"? Are you saved, Leo? Colin |
||||||
813 | Jesus Created or Creator??? | Rev 3:14 | flinkywood | 104968
Leo, whether you agreee with me or anyone else is irrelevant; it's Jesus you answer to. Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the uncreated, risen Lord, co-eternal with God the Father and Holy Spirit? Have you asked forgiveness for your sins and believed in Jesus Christ, the only-begotten son, Savior of the world? If so, rest assured that you are saved (1 John 5:11, 12). If not, then it is fact you are not saved (Mark 16:16), not opinion. Colin |

Leo, I read through your other postings. You sound as if you are trying to decide, not an easy thing to do -- and all those translations. It took me a while to decide to give my life to Jesus; when I did, my intellect graciouly backed off and I just believed. My intellect has since fully latched on: you don't shut off the brain to believe the bible. Nonetheless, the questions in my previous posting still stand. It is a matter of life and death, Leo. 815 | Whose will causes a believer to sin? | Rev 13:8 | flinkywood | 88194
Good stuff, Joe. God ordains that good and ill work to His glory. As I understand free will, the one thing God can't ordain is our loving obedience. He can lead us to Him, but He deliberately can't make us love Him. He can search the heart (here Hezekia's): 2Ch 32:31 Even in the matter of the envoys of the rulers of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that had happened in the land, God left him alone only to test him, that He might know all that was in his heart." (NASB) He can search for the heart: 2Ch 16:9 "For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His." (NASB) He can harden the heart: Deu 2:30 "But Sihon king of Heshbon was not willing for us to pass through his land; for the LORD your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, in order to deliver him into your hand, as he is today." (NASB) Stir up the heart: Ezr 1:1,2 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he sent a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and also put it in writing, saying: "Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, 'The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth and He has appointed me to build Him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah." (NASB) And give the gift of love to the heart: 1 John 4.19 "We love Him, because He first loved us." (KJV). But I can't find any scripture which says that God can make a heart to love Him. Nothing is impossible for God, except, it seems, this one thing. I conclude that He has deliberately limited His omnipotence in this amazing way: that love for Him is up to us. I think you phrase it correctly with, "God doesn't sin, but ordains "that" the wickedness of men and Satan...", the stress being on "that"; God doesn't ordain sin, but "that" sin be used and directed to His glory. Since He loves us, sin is one of His intruments; if He didn't love us, sin would be his handiwork. Love seems to be the answer at heart of the question whether God tempts to sin and ordains the commission of sin. Colin |

Hank, did you know the JW's don't believe in hell? It's a handy disbelief when you also believe Jesus is the archangel Michael. That's right, the JW's preach that Jesus is really Michael. Isn't that something? So by this, not only is a savior unnecessary, any savior at all, our putative Savior is a liar. On a sliding scale, one being Jesus and ten being Mohammed, I'd give these guys a six. I like the heat this cult generates in this forum. |

I'm not intersted in the NWT, but that "Spinal Tap" rating sounds acceptable. JW's aren't interested in inductive argument, I don't know how you can reach them, but it's good, though frustrating, to argue with them. I have a copy of the Koran. I'd give it a 17 out of 20, with Dianetics somewhere nearby. I say 17 because I know a former Musilm, former Fatah sniper, who came to the Lord, so as pernicious as Koran is it can still be escaped. I don't know any Scientology converts or JW converts. (Maybe we put NWT farther out?) Interesting to note, meanwhile, that there are bundles of Christians amongst the Palestinians. I heard one missionary claim there are more Christians in Palestine, than Christians in Israel, by a long shot. Why isn't the fundamentalist Christian Church bringing this fact more to light? Could it be their strict adhesion to all things Israel? Don't Israeli Jews need Christ as much as the Palestinian Muslims? Christians are getting killed from all sides in the middle east; there's a lot of grey area there. |

Yeah, prejudice wasn't Jesus' message. Look at how He electrified the Samaritan woman at the well (Joh 4.5-42). But wasn't she ripe for the harvest? Not everyone has ears to hear, apparently. As He said: "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him..." (Joh 6:44). To all religions our Christian witness has to be like Paul's: "For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified." (1 Cor 2.2) This attitude buries prejudice. I don't say that from experience, but from the desire to have this attitude someday. I don't yet have the guts for it. Colin. |
