61 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | iktoose | 145030
Steve, If it occurs at the same time, how do you explain Acts 8:15? It seems that the Samaritans waited for Peter and John to lay hand on them in order to receive the Holy Spirit (after water baptism by Phillip). |

62 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | iktoose | 145214
Prayon, thank you for answering to my original questions. You said that baptism of the Spirit is when you truly become filled with the Spirit. That means you can experience this Spirit baptism over and over, correct?
63 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | iktoose | 145231
Prayon, here we go again... What you said here "When you are ask Christ to come into your life and you are 'saved' you receive the Holy Spirit." is the moment of salvation, correct? Earlier post, you said "Yes the baptism of the Holy Spirit is different from receiving salvation." Are you saying "receiving the Spirit" and "being baptized by the Spirit" are two differnt things? |

64 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | iktoose | 155360
Hi C.S.M, First, I want to thank you for the detailed reply. Although you missed my point slightly... but that's okay. We all do. Let me see if I can clarify this so that you may understand my point. In Acts 8:12-17, deacon Philip baptized believers (with water) in the name of Jesus but the believers did not receive the Holy Spirit apparently. Then apostles John and Peter came and prayed for the believers and laid their hands on them (v. 17) and the believers received the Holy Spirit. My understanding as a believer always has been that the Holy Spirit comes into you the moment you receive Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior and dwells with you the rest of your life. I also believe that the water baptisim is a ceremony to let the congregation know you are a full pledged Christian. But Acts 8:12-17 seem to contradict my belief. This passage suggests that a water baptism suppose to give the believers the Holy Spirit (v. 16). Also suggests that only Apostles have the authority/power (gift of God) to give the believers the Holy Spirit. Your thoughts on this? iktoose |

65 | Spirit Baptism | Acts 8:12 | iktoose | 155396
Dear C.S.M. Thanks again for your lengthy explanation. I have no problem understanding what you stated. However, you have not answered my question to my satisfaction. I stated the following in my previous posting, "My understanding as a believer always has been that the Holy Spirit comes into you the moment you receive Jesus Christ into your heart as your Lord and Savior and dwells with you the rest of your life. I also believe that the water baptisim is a ceremony to let the congregation know you are a full pledged Christian (of course after your admission that you're a sinner and repentence of sin)." Do you disagree with this? Please indicate yes or no. After all, we can always agree on our disagreement (:-). Right? Let me ask this: Do you think deacon Philip's miracles and signs (Acts 8:13) were actually done by Jesus? If so, do you think deacon Philip had apostolic authority and power? If so, why the Samaritan believers did not receive the Holy Spirit when he baptized them? How do you reconcile this event with Acts 2:38-39 as you quoted "Peter said..repent, and be baptized in the name (or into the name) of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the GIFT of the Holy Ghost. (39)" ? Is it your understanding that if you're baptized in the name of Jesus Christ ... and you shall RECEIVE the gift of the Holy Spirit? If so, how would you reconcile that with the event happened in Acts 10:44-48 where Cornelius' household received the Holy Spirit while Peter was preaching? Baptism for them happened after that, not? Do you see the Ethiopian eunuch receiving the Holy Spirit when Philip baptized him? What is the meaning of all these rather contradicting/or inconsistent events? iktoose |

66 | Why the Holy Spirit came after baptism? | Acts 8:15 | iktoose | 144964
Normally a person at the moment of salvation receive the Holy Spirit, I am told. However, this passage does not support that. Phillip baptized (with water) many Samaritans but Apostle John and Peter came down and prayed for them so they may receive the Holy Spirit. Any good explanation for this?
67 | Why the Holy Spirit came after baptism? | Acts 8:15 | iktoose | 145212
Hi Mohandass, Now I am bit confused/muddled with different terms. I have been believed that at the moment of salvation, the Holy Spirit comes into me and dwells in me. Having said that I have no problem understanding the terms like "quenching the Spirit, grieving the Spirit, to be filled with the Spirit, and the fruits of the Spirit." You said "annointing by the Spirit is a separate incident." Can you explain how "annointing by the Spirit" with respect to terms above?
68 | Why take UNCLEAN animals onto The Ark | Acts 10:11 | iktoose | 147780
Leviticus 11 (old testament laws) defines what clean and unclean animals are for human consumption. Again this is the laws. You cannot satisfy the laws though you can try. If you are absolutely sure that we are not eat unclean animals, can you say the same for the rest of the laws? Just read Leviticus and see if you can abide by the laws. iktoose |

69 | Why take UNCLEAN animals onto The Ark | Acts 10:11 | iktoose | 148910
Merv, I do admire your faithfulness/attitude about the laws. It reminds the psalmist of Psalm 119. If you can compare yourself to the psalmist, please continue striving to keep the laws and be content. However, I know I cannot fulfill the laws and always end up feeling guilty. iktoose. |

70 | Circumcision for believers, justified!? | Acts 16:3 | iktoose | 152394
In Acts 16:3, Paul circumcised Timothy possibly to avoid accusation from the Jews. Although I fully understand the reason behind the operation, I feel that Paul went somewhat over board with his action here that is contrary to other occasions where he strongly preached against circumcision for believers. iktoose |

71 | Why do we ignore parts of Moses' laws? | Rom 6:14 | iktoose | 176982
Hi CDBJ, I know this is not relevent to the subj matter you are discussing... But you stated that "Then He (Jesus) warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ." I just want to point out that Jesus told the woman at the well (John 4:24-26) that He was Christ. I don't know the timeline of this related to Matt 16:20. Do you think this incident happened after Matt 16:20??? John 4: 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth. 25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh (he that is called Christ): when he is come, he will declare unto us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he. iktoose |

72 | Are we free from the Law? | Rom 7:6 | iktoose | 149905
We (believers) are free from the Law (Romans 7:6) but Paul stated in Romans 3:31 that we should uphold the Law. Can someone tell me what part of the Mosaic Law (Pentateuch) we should still comply? I wish there was a clear black and white line drawn. iktoose |

73 | Are we free from the Law? | Rom 7:6 | iktoose | 149913
Thanks to Born Twice for the insight. If my conscience says it is okay to cheat a little here and a little there. And that is the clear black and white line as you put it. That may be a stumbling block for some other believers. How would you reconcile that problem? iktoose |

74 | Are we free from the Law? | Rom 7:6 | iktoose | 149921
Searcher, I was merely reiterating what Born twice stated in his response, "conscience." I believe everyone's moral standard is different(even though we use the same OT/NT). One could be sensitive about a subject while others care not. Examples: Drinking alcohol, speeding on highway, lying to your kids for their own good. If my conscience says it is okay to drive few miles over the speed limit but the law says that you're guilty and someone might object to it. iktoose |

75 | Are we free from the Law? | Rom 7:6 | iktoose | 149977
Here BornTwice is saying we don't care about some laws such as dietary, cleanliness, and some other standards(??). This tells me that we are free from certain laws but not all of the law, correct? It seems that we can break some laws but not the ones WE think they are more important. That to me is interpreting the Law? iktoose |

76 | Are we free from the Law? | Rom 7:6 | iktoose | 149987
Every denomination seems to have slightly different moral standard, not? Some have audacity to ordain gay clergymen. iktoose! |

77 | Are we free from the Law? | Rom 7:6 | iktoose | 149990
BornTwice, Yes, I do agree that Jesus said "judgement, mercy, and faith" are weightier than other. However, remember how He completed the sentence, "... these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone." He did not say we can disregard those but He said "these ought ye to have done." Correct? In light of that, how can we say that the law that addresses farming/clothing and doing yard work on Sabath day are not important or has no application to us? iktoose! |

78 | What do we do with the OT? | Rom 7:6 | iktoose | 150048
When I first put the question up I was hoping to see some discussion on real life applications... Based on the last two posts by BornTwice and lionheart, is it safe to infer that if my intention is good I can break the law? Let me ask a hypothetical question for you to consider. Let's say I see a poor illegal immigrant family and my heart desires to help them. What if I hire them to work in my company? Here I am breaking the law by hiring illegal immigrants but my heart desires to help out strangers in our land. Is this right thing to do? If not, what is wrong? iktoose |

79 | What do we do with the OT? | Rom 7:6 | iktoose | 150062
Whatever happened to the heart of Jesus in this situation? Why all of sudden you talk like Pharisees? |

80 | What do we do with the OT? | Rom 7:6 | iktoose | 150069
So in your mind the right thing to do is turn these people in to authority and kick them out of the country? Just look around your church pews, you will see them. Do you want to report them to INS? Is this what Jesus want us to do? iktoose |
