61 | Can anyone speak in tonges | 1 Cor 13:1 | Shythiyl | 167724
What is amazing is that you really believe you have "proven" something concerning this topic. I doubt this is the first time you have convinced yourself in such a manner. Searcher, what may I ask do you consider important when it comes to the Living Word? Is it more important that we debate and understand trivial matters, or that we do His will in living and spreading that word? You have yet to "prove" anything invalid. An unknown tongue, be it plural or otherwise is still an unknown tongue. Your rationalization changes absolutely nothing. And the fact that you wish to make it appear that what was and is is not, changes nothing either. I hope you do not feel that I was calling you names, for this was not my intention. I was simply stating my thoughts concerning the wording of your post which you referenced. If I were to state that belief in eternal salvation is "a very common demonic doorway," I expect it would cause a pretty big stir among those who hold such a belief. Your statement in post #48618 is comparable to such. Your servant. S |

62 | Can anyone speak in tonges | 1 Cor 13:1 | Shythiyl | 167726
Thanks for your input Mark. The word "other" (het-er-os) according to Strongs Hebrew and Greek Dictionary, means "of uncertain affinity." I would like to pose a question to Searcher56. Is what is uncertain, unknown? "G1100 Of uncertain affinity; the tongue; by implication a language (specifically one naturally unacquired): - tongue." May I ask if anyone can tell me why folks are now so certain as to what was then uncertain? Are we so much wiser today, than they who actually heard and discribed the speaking of the gift of "tongues"? (I am speaking to any who would argue the point.) Read on down to verse 6 in Acts 2. What did the people hear. NASB states "And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together,..." Note the use of the word "sound." Is it likely that, understanding the "sound" in each his own language, one would use the word "sound"? I contend that (keeping in mind what Paul stated concerning the use and gift of tongues,) one should consider that when Acts 2:4-13 is read as it is written, and in context, one will see that each individual heard what was spoken ---in their own language.--- (Not that the individual language was actually spoken.) In other words, though the apostles were Galileans, each "heard" them speak in his own tongue. Thus, the speaking of "tongues." There is no mention of such in scripture, and it is quite unlikely that each of the apostles were linguists, or that the few who may have been fluent in Greek and Hebrew, were as well, in the dozen or so other languages and dialects of those gathered together. Is it so hard for todays Church (believers) to believe in miracles, that it/they must discount those spoken of in what it/they professe/s, the Living word of God? Your servant Shythiyl |

63 | Can anyone speak in tonges | 1 Cor 13:1 | Shythiyl | 167729
Brother Hank, many years ago, and as reciently as the last couple of years, I have witnessed the speaking of tongues. Neither was not as disorderly an occurrence as the many which I have seen depicted on these boards. Quite the contrary. The first time was something I did not understand at the time, something almost frightening, yet joyous. If there had been no interpretor, the second time I would have known it for what it would have been, the trash Searcher56 calls it. I do not mean to make it a comparison, but your reference "incomprehensible babble " puts me in mind of what those who have, either witnessed the fake professor, or are simply ignorant to scripture, call Gods word. There is little doubt in my mind that you, and those who argue, have ever seen the reality of the gift. No doubt there are devilish pretenders who are frauds. There are the same who call themselves Christians. This is why it is very difficult to convince many of the faith. Yet, do those who pretend to be Christians void Christianity? No, and neither do those who pretend to posess one of the 7 gifts called tongues, void the gift, or what Paul wrote concerning the validity thereof. There are those who contend that the gift of tongues is a gift of the past. There are also those who contend that Jesus was no more than a prophet or the archangel. All would be wise to weigh their contentions prior to speaking blasphemy. Please keep in mind brother Hank, that though my words are strong, they are written in love. I may or may not convince you, or anyone else concerning what the Holy Spirit has revealed to me. This is, as I have spoken to Searcher56, a trivial matter which is not really worth the expendature of time. Jesus Christ is the foundation. Salvation is the ultimate goal. Such a matter promotes neither. I do not seek the satisfaction of winning a debate. Nor do I claim to know it all. I do desire to clarify what the Holy Spirit has revealed to me through His Living Word. Though I may not read them, for I have a hard time not responding when it appears nessisary, I will now opt out of the discussion of this topic, and let those who must, have their last words. 65 | Gross or Net Income/ | 2 Cor 9:6 | Shythiyl | 165440
When I had my own business, money was plentiful. I chose to tithe my gross. Now that I am have closed it and am working for someone else, naturally there is not so much money coming in. Scripture says that we are to tithe all our "gains." Gross is not 100 percent gains. Net is. Keep in mind though, that if one gets an Income Tax refund, that is a gain if the Net was tithed. If the Gross was tithed, it is not. I often tithed every cent that came in. I did not care to penny pinch. I later changed that, and am just as blessed as ever, if not more so. Whatever is from the heart, is what God is interested in. Not the fulfilment of legalistic obligation. No doubt many sill disagree, but I would ask them? "Where does scripture say that we are to tithe anything other than gain?" |

67 | how many unforgiven sins are there? | Eph 1:7 | Shythiyl | 166262
"All are sinners." Anyone who says he is without sin is a liar. Christians are simply "saved sinners." It is the Blood of Christ, grace and faith, that makes us different from the others. I once read somewhere that the closser one gets to God, the more that one thinks like God. God hates sin, buit we are still carnal. We are imperfect. Yet it is stated that we should strive for perfection. Life is a constant struggle. Oh how I yearn for this struggle to end. I love life, or should I say, the blessings thereof, ie loved ones, childeren, the opporitunity to share the Words of Life, and my dog, Corkey, but I love what I know is coming that much more.. It seems soooo long, yet life is but a drip, in the ocean of eternity. O what a glorious day that will be! |

68 | how many unforgiven sins are there? | Eph 1:7 | Shythiyl | 166326
Perhaps I misread, but it appears you are saying that all are saved, even the unrepentant sinner who scoffs at the sacrifice Jesus made.. Such a statement is utterly preposterous, and straight from the pits of hell, where there is one who would love to convince man of such a thing! The sin of the world WILL be taken away. And Jesus will do it prior to His supream reign. This does not mean that those who practice it, will be forgiven if they do not repent and accept His sacrifice. And, by no means do the verses you refere to indicate that everyone, (in the essence of the word,) will be forgiven. |

69 | Would God ever accept a 2nd marriage? | Eph 1:7 | Shythiyl | 166329
Why would He not accept a second marriage? Anyone who thinks He would, Christian or otherwise would be well advised to know what His Word states concerning the matter. He IS a God of love and second chances, but He is also a just God, and he gave us His word which leaves no room for rationalization on this, and many other matters of such importance. Such a topic, is a touchy one. One which is close to the heart of everyone, but a Christian should be bound by His Living Word, not the feelings of their heart. No doubt, many will say it does not pertain, but though I can't currently recall where, I do remember an instance in the OT where many of the Nation Israel had married outside their people, and they were ordered to divorce or leave. One rationalised, and lost his life, if I am not mistaken. I am sure someone can point out the passages to which I refer, and refrain from voicing "opinion" on the matter, by simply presenting what Gods word states. Scripturally, there are 3 escapes from marriage. (1) Spousal death. (2) Spousal unfaithfulness. And (3), An unequally yoked marriage in which the unbeliever leaves the believer. Rationalixing the matter, will fool only the rationalizers. It will not change the Word of God. Nor will it excuse the ignorant believer, which leads to my final coment on the matter. Mat 5:19 "Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." |

70 | Is Satan in heaven or on earth right now | Eph 6:12 | Shythiyl | 166746
Well, he most assuredly is not in heaven. I believe he is accoustomed to a much hotter climate, and God has no desire for his company, but is Satan on earth? I think not. Physically anyway. His influences most assuredly are though. I can't think of any, but I would like to see if any can provide scripture contrary to my statement. |

71 | We have seen Jesus... | 1 Timothy | Shythiyl | 165224
In having read the book umpteen times over the past 1/2 centry, apon my most recient re-reading of it, a thought just came to mind. Keep in mind John 1:1. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Now consider what Jesus states in John 14:21. "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him." “And will manifest (show) myself to him.” Now... My thought is, "He has manifest Himself to me in His word." I believe, but have yet researched it, that scripture states something to this affect, elsewhere. Many take this passage literally. I firmly believe that, just like the rest of scripture, depending on the specific circumstances, this passage can be taken either way. literally or figuratively. Having no desire to get into a doctrinal discussion on the matter, I would like to ask, what passages you would provide in support, or contrast to this thought? |

72 | We have seen Jesus... | 1 Timothy | Shythiyl | 165293
Your statements are factual. Yet do you think Jesus meant it literally when He said "that if your eye sins against you, pluck it out; If your hand sins, cut it off"? If this were the case, there would be a lot of self mutilation. The more mutilated one was, the more righteous that one would be considered, yet He also stated that the body is the temple of God, and that anything done to defile that temple... I think you missed my point. |

74 | We have seen Jesus... | 1 Timothy | Shythiyl | 165310
Thank you for understanding my question. I'm not saying that it has happened here, but it seems that, only too often, those who do not understand, rather than attempting to do so, would rather cast stones. I have had so many thoughts scoffed, at in these forums in which I search so diligently to find someone with which I can share what God has blessed me with, and gleen the fruits of their experiences as well, by those who call themselves brothers and sisters, only later to see the same question arrise. It is then that one must be near fearless to participate in the conversation. Again, thanks. And, by the way, I meant it more as a comment than a question. I figured there would be some opposition, there usually is, but I was looking forward to seeing some scripture from both sides. Considering the lack of response, it looks like it may have been a wrong question for this forum. I have heard at least one preacher say that Jesus dosen't show Himself to anyone today. I believe that scripturally, it is wrong to make such a statement, for though this may be true for one, it may not be for another, and I feel that the passages I quoted proves scripturally that He does show Himself... |

76 | Confronting another about sin | 1 Tim 5:14 | Shythiyl | 165468
You may wish first to explain to her, what scripture states concerning divorce. That if she were to leave her husband and marry another, for any reason other than stated in scripture, she and her new mate would be commiting adultry. You are in a very delicate situation, and would be wise to seek the advise and assistance of your pastor, or another mature and respected brother/sister. It may be better for someone other than yourself to handle the situation. This is not uncommon in a male/female situation such as that which you depict. I was in such a situation once. My wife straightened it out in a very Christian like manor. I realized that I had been very naive. What a lesson I learned! As to the verse I have chosen, I refer to the portion of KJ translation. "give none occasion to the adversary." You have unwittingly become the adversary, or opponent of her husband, and in her mind at least, she has given you every occasion. Perhaps I have chosen a poor verse in reference to the particular situation, but I only refer tp the portion "give none occasion to the adversary." |

77 | Interlinear Bibles | 2 Tim 2:15 | Shythiyl | 165871
You may wish to do a "Google" search. I don't know about a particular websight, but I bought one many years ago. I found it a valuable resource. Though I have many "physical" study sources, I am an "electronics junkie, as my son puts it." I find it much easier to use the computer, and have tons of resources there including Hebrew, Greek and English sources. When I gave my Interlinear to a brother, I missed it dreadfully. I paid quite a bit more for my second one, which had Strong numbers in addition. I find it that much more usefull, but I really don't like it in the modern KJ. I prefer NIV to the Kings English. |

78 | What if Jesus hadn't been crucified? | Heb 9:22 | Shythiyl | 165825
"Question: What would have happened if Jesus had not come to save us? I mean, why did He have to be crucified? Why couldn't God just say, "Okay, world, I love you and so I forgive you."?" Another Answer: Because He is a just God, as well as a God of Grace. Besides, if He simply stated to the world "I love you and so I forgive you," those who desired no forgiveness would mock His forgiveness, and the circle of sin, would begin again. Christ will not be crucified a second time. Nor is God answerable to man. Neither are His laws debatable. Like God Himself, they are unchangable, WRITTEN in stone... His Word Will endure forever. |

79 | long term mixture of faith and unbelief? | James 1:15 | Shythiyl | 166075
Do you have faith that unbelievers will spend eternity in Hell fire and damnation due to their unbelief? This seems a harsh answer, but it is true. Just exactly what is your unbelief? Is it that God exists, that His Son died to pay the penalty for the sins of those such as yourself and me? Could it be you find it hard to believe that a loving and merciful God would allow pain and misery, or that He would allow someone to spend eternity in damnation for spawning His Sons sin payment? Faith and unbelief are comprable to water and oil. Either you believe, or you don't. Either you don't, or you do. Which is it? Could it possiably be that you believe, yet you can't imagine personal forgiveness because you know the vile wickedness of your sinful way? |

80 | How do you guys fight temptation? | James 5:16 | Shythiyl | 165739
1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. The fact that one is tempted is not the sin. The resulting actions determing that. If you allow yourself to dwell on what you know to be sin, will turn the key and let the tempter in. Scripture states "be carefull what you see and hear." When I was in the service over thirty years ago, I finally gave in and allowed myself to watch the filth and porn flicks that everyone else was watching. Thirty years later, those scenes are still in my minds eye. I would never have known that many evils existed, had I not given in to, not the temptation, for I was repulsed, but the peer pressure. |
