62 | Is God Violent? | Bible general Archive 3 | Shythiyl | 165699
Atrocities? No doubt the righteous judgements of the Creator might seem such to a sinner, or babe in Christ, but... Would the pot call the hands of the potter, dirty? He is the potter. We are the clay. If He should utterly distroy us, who are we, what are we? Would such distruction be atrocious? If man ever managed to create "andriods" such as is depicted in Science Fiction, and those droids were to rebel, would their distruction be atrocious? Would man be gracious enough to put up with their rebellion for thousands of years? Would you be able to send your one and only son to them, watch them torture and murder him, then allow them to continue their vile existance? In His "loving grace and mercy", He has. |

64 | Jesus comitted a suicide ? | Matt 16:21 | Shythiyl | 165518
See my other note in this thread. If making statements based on ignorance is lying, then you are lying. Ignorance is not a sin. It is not even shameful. Not doing anything about it, is both. A forum such as this is good for those who can discern the thoughts of others in light of scripture, but it is not a place for one to seek an antidote for ignorance, rather it is more often it is a place to flaunt it. Scripture alone provides such an antidote. |

65 | Jesus comitted a suicide ? | Matt 16:21 | Shythiyl | 165516
He knew he was going to die. Some mistakenly think of this as suicied. Many who have fought in wars, knew they were going to die. They were simply following orders. Jesus was following orders. The orders of His very own heart. The heart of God. Would those who think of this as suicide not sacrifice their very own life for their loved ones? To sacrifice ones life for a friend or loved one, is the love of man. To make such sacrifice for friends, loved ones and enemies as well, is the love of God. |

66 | Did my dad go to heaven or hell? | Matt 18:3 | Shythiyl | 165472
This puts me in mind of King Davids actions prior to, and after the death of Bathsheba's son.
67 | Did my dad go to heaven or hell? | Matt 18:3 | Shythiyl | 165471
Your statement " I do not know that he was saved" tells it all. No one knows what may or may not have gone on in your Dads head prior to his death. And no one can answer your question. Hopefully... well, you know what I mean. As to some comforting scripture, anyone can copy and paste till they are blue in the face, but though what they paste may mean much to them, you may not come the same understanding. I would recommend you simply turn to Gods Word for yourself. What you read may not currently pertain to what yoru heart desires, but rest assurred, if you stay in it long enough, you will get the answers you currently seek. God Bless. |

68 | Confronting another about sin | 1 Tim 5:14 | Shythiyl | 165468
You may wish first to explain to her, what scripture states concerning divorce. That if she were to leave her husband and marry another, for any reason other than stated in scripture, she and her new mate would be commiting adultry. You are in a very delicate situation, and would be wise to seek the advise and assistance of your pastor, or another mature and respected brother/sister. It may be better for someone other than yourself to handle the situation. This is not uncommon in a male/female situation such as that which you depict. I was in such a situation once. My wife straightened it out in a very Christian like manor. I realized that I had been very naive. What a lesson I learned! As to the verse I have chosen, I refer to the portion of KJ translation. "give none occasion to the adversary." You have unwittingly become the adversary, or opponent of her husband, and in her mind at least, she has given you every occasion. Perhaps I have chosen a poor verse in reference to the particular situation, but I only refer tp the portion "give none occasion to the adversary." |

69 | Gross or Net Income/ | 2 Cor 9:6 | Shythiyl | 165440
When I had my own business, money was plentiful. I chose to tithe my gross. Now that I am have closed it and am working for someone else, naturally there is not so much money coming in. Scripture says that we are to tithe all our "gains." Gross is not 100 percent gains. Net is. Keep in mind though, that if one gets an Income Tax refund, that is a gain if the Net was tithed. If the Gross was tithed, it is not. I often tithed every cent that came in. I did not care to penny pinch. I later changed that, and am just as blessed as ever, if not more so. Whatever is from the heart, is what God is interested in. Not the fulfilment of legalistic obligation. No doubt many sill disagree, but I would ask them? "Where does scripture say that we are to tithe anything other than gain?" |

70 | We have seen Jesus... | 1 Timothy | Shythiyl | 165310
Thank you for understanding my question. I'm not saying that it has happened here, but it seems that, only too often, those who do not understand, rather than attempting to do so, would rather cast stones. I have had so many thoughts scoffed, at in these forums in which I search so diligently to find someone with which I can share what God has blessed me with, and gleen the fruits of their experiences as well, by those who call themselves brothers and sisters, only later to see the same question arrise. It is then that one must be near fearless to participate in the conversation. Again, thanks. And, by the way, I meant it more as a comment than a question. I figured there would be some opposition, there usually is, but I was looking forward to seeing some scripture from both sides. Considering the lack of response, it looks like it may have been a wrong question for this forum. I have heard at least one preacher say that Jesus dosen't show Himself to anyone today. I believe that scripturally, it is wrong to make such a statement, for though this may be true for one, it may not be for another, and I feel that the passages I quoted proves scripturally that He does show Himself... |

72 | We have seen Jesus... | 1 Timothy | Shythiyl | 165293
Your statements are factual. Yet do you think Jesus meant it literally when He said "that if your eye sins against you, pluck it out; If your hand sins, cut it off"? If this were the case, there would be a lot of self mutilation. The more mutilated one was, the more righteous that one would be considered, yet He also stated that the body is the temple of God, and that anything done to defile that temple... I think you missed my point. |

73 | We have seen Jesus... | Not Specified | Shythiyl | 165223
In having read the book umpteen times over the past 1/2 centry, apon my most recient re-reading of it, a thought just came to mind. Keep in mind John 1:1. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Now consider what Jesus states in John 14:21. "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him." “And will manifest (show) myself to him.” Now... My thought is, "He has manifest Himself to me in His word." I believe, but have yet researched it, that scripture states something to this affect, elsewhere. Many take this passage literally. I firmly believe that, just like the rest of scripture, depending on the specific circumstances, this passage can be taken either way. literally or figuratively. Having no desire to get into a doctrinal discussion on the matter, I would like to ask, what passages you would provide in support, or contrast to this thought? |

75 | Context versus what is translated. | 1 Sam 25:22 | Shythiyl | 165085
Interesting. It is funny how one can have read all that two or three tines in scripture, yet still not absorbed it. I guess it's just my thick head.
76 | explain the doctrine of predistination | Rom 9:13 | Shythiyl | 165081
Thank you Doc. Rightly dividing the Word should be the first and foremost desire of all who speak it. Otherwise, silence would be wisest. "Careful, open and honest study..." If this is the goal of all herein, I have found my haven. Unfortunantly though, this seems to be the desire and/or claim of most of these sights, rather than the actuality one is faced with after participation. |

77 | explain the doctrine of predistination | Rom 9:13 | Shythiyl | 165079
Did I say this? I think not. Do you not think that it was an all knowing God who created man? If so, ask yourself the question you presented me with. What do you "think" His intentions were?
78 | explain the doctrine of predistination | Rom 9:13 | Shythiyl | 165055
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Do you not agree that before God created the heavens and the earth, He knew that you would be reading these very words, at this very minute. And that He also knew who He would love and who He would hate? Likewise, he knew who would, and who would not accept His Son, and the payment He made at Calvary. Thuss the elect. One can disagree, but I reserve the right to agree to disagree. |

79 | Context versus what is translated. | 1 Sam 25:22 | Shythiyl | 165041
Out of ignorance, and because I believe I may have saw the term in the previous post, I used the term Jewish Scriptures, but then I just realized that I have always thought of the Hebrews as Jewish. I have only the scriptural education of a self/Holy Spirit taught student of the scriptures. I believe this would be a safe assumption, but where scripture is concerned, though my ignorance never fails to amaze me, assumption is against my character. I have thought of this; that the Jew came from Judah, the son of Jacob, but I have never researched it. |

80 | Context versus what is translated. | 1 Sam 25:22 | Shythiyl | 165007
Thank you Kalos. What you appear to be saying, correct me if I am wrong, is that David is saying "may my enemies do this to me, and more if I do not do it to Nabal and his house. "a scribal attempt to deliver David from the implied consequences of this oath'" A scribal attempt? For some reason, this brushes me wrong. The thought that it is not a "literal" discription of what happened, but then, there is much I do not understand. I have always considered an "oath" as non retractable. I know that the circumstances are not even simular, but this brings into question Jephthah's vow. But then, perhaps I confuse the words vow and oath. This is what I was desiring, knowlegable information, and if all follow your lead on this sight, you will more than likely see many of my questions and comments herein. Do you know of an English translation of the Jewish Scripture prior to the LXX? Does such a thing exist? |
