61 | Why have kids when... | Gen 1:22 | In the Andes | 53667
Ok, I've got a good question for Discussion. But before I ask it, let's not get into the unanswerable Calvinism Armenianism thing OK. OK here we go, this ought to be fun. I asked a Calvinist one time... "Do you have Kids?" He said "3". I said "Why would you have kids if God might choose one of them to go to hell?" Do you think a true calvinist would ever have kids, because what if God chose one of them for eternal damnation? |

62 | Can one who commits suicide be saved? | Ex 20:13 | In the Andes | 53659
sure, you'd only commit suicide if you were mentally sick. You'd never say, a person that dies of cancer couldn't be saved. Sick in body and sick in head are both sicknesses. if you are not born again you wont go to heaven. God's not going to send a person to hell cause they were sick. I think that's an old catholic tradition. |

63 | Who is qualified? | 1 Tim 6:17 | In the Andes | 53658
Oh my gosh! See that's exaclty what I mean. Christians freak out when you say that God desires to bless His children with stuff, and the very reason for it is to be a blessing. I say, Prosperity without purpose is poison. But According to Gen 12:1-3 Part of the Blessing of Abraham was, "I will bless you and in you ALL THE FAMILIES OF THE EARTH SHALL BE BLESSED." I believe that financial success is essential to every born again believer for that very purpose. To be a blessing, to provide for their own 1 tim 5:8, to provide for his brother 1 john 3:17, to provide for the Poor Gal 2:10, to provide for the church, 1 Cor 16:3 and to provide for the pastor 1 tim 5:17 and the missionaries 3 John 7-8 You know what. I feel really sorry for those people in the church who didn't support your ministry. When they get to heaven, I'm sure God will say to them "Well you're done, cheap and stingy servant. I'm so proud of you. You were really stingy. You did such a good Job of keeping Justme without money. I really needed help keeping him humble." Did you hear the sarcasm in my words? Unfortunately I cannot discuss my mission organization in public. Other than we've got schools all over the world. We've been talking about commandments in the NT in another forum, A good NT command is "Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especailly those who labor in the Word and doctrine." 1 Tim 5:17. Honor in context being salary. I believe that the Elders refered to in scripture are most often Pastors, Since I am NOT a Pastor of a church, I can say, Every Pastor ought to be highly paid. Especailly with all the junk they have put up with. My heart goes out to you! I work with Pastors daily helping them to succeed in ministry. I have some idea of what you went through. Ciao, |

66 | In the Andes, Law the only OT covenant? | Ex 20:10 | In the Andes | 53653
There were tons of Covenants in the OT. Look at Deut. 4:13 So He declared to you His COVENANT which He commanded you to perform, THE 10 COMMANDMENTS; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone. Look at Deut. 5:2-3 The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. He did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, those who are here today... Did you notice that? 2 covenants, both based upon the same thing. Ch 4:13 There is NO misunderstanding that, the Covenant is the 10 commandments. The only thing God wrote on stone where those. The rest of the mosaic law rests on those 10. Therefore, I could be wrong, Paul refers continually to the 10 as the Law of Moses and Moses called the 10 a covenant, so the law was a covenant. If you've got evidence to the contrary, I'd like to know it cause I do think this is important. Now look at Deut. 29:1 These are the words of teh covenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the Children of Israel in the land of Moab, BESIDES THE COVENANT THAT HE MADE WITH THEM IN HOREB. Horeb was Mt Sinai the giving of the Law the 10 commandments. You know, I've been thinking about what you said we need the law. You know, you only need the law until you realize that you are a sinner. Once you figure out you are a sinner, you have no further need of it. That's my reading of Gal 3:24-25. How do you read it? What about Gal 4:21-24 Mount Sinai gives birth to bondage. that's the OT law including the 10. Again, let me reiterate, I have nothing against the 10. It's just not God's way of justifing His kids. We are justified freely by the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Most Christians get saved, then go try to keep the 10 commandments to be spiritual. That's the whole point of the book of Galatians. The way you are saved is the way you become spiritual. BY FAITH. See Gal 3:1-9 and 5:7-26. If you are going to keep the "Sabbath" you might as well keep circumcision. I think we've beat this dead horse enough. It was a really fun topic. I'll find something equally fun for this week. |

67 | In the Andes, name the Laws of the New | Ex 20:10 | In the Andes | 53650
Dear Mrs B, I didn't use those scriptures. I did refer to Gal 3:25 though. I used Roms 13:8-10. As a matter of fact, I also used them to teach on marriage today at church. We need more of the Love of God in our marriages than we do rules and regulations. You know, I agree with you 100 percent, I'm having enough trouble walking in love without adding, did i walk to far from my home on the Sabbath day? ha ha. I had to go half way across Santiago to preach. I was so grateful that is was a beautiful day here. God bless, In the Andes |

68 | In the Andes, name the Laws of the New | Ex 20:10 | In the Andes | 53636
The law has not been abolished but fulfilled and set aside. Heb 7:11, 12, see vs 18,19 Heb 7:28-8:1, 6 Now read Heb 8:7-12 And to conclude vs 13 says... "In that He says, "a new covenant" He has MADE THE FIRST OBSOLETE."The rest of the vs is talking about the jews. The law of the New Covenant is John 13:34-35, Rom 13:8-10, and ch 14 is an example of living that law. We do this by following the Spirit and bearing the fruit of the Spirit. The outworking of our Righteousness will include those things contained in the law. Walking in love, we will never commit adultery, etc. etc. But this is the point, The 10 Commandents made NO ONE PERFECT. Speaking of the Law and Commandments, Paul says in Col. 2:14-23 and Eph 2:14-16 That the law was the enmity that was against us. And Jesus put to death the enmity by taking it to the cross and nailing it there. I always thought he was talking about my sins, but that's not what it says. Jesus wiped out the handwriting of requirements-that was the law. So no one should pass judgement upon another believer about the sabbaths, that includes the weekly sabbaths, as well as the 3 year sabbath 50 yr etc. Paul says that keeping the law has an APPEARANCE OF WISDOM, but it is really, FALSE HUMILITY, and it has NO VALUE AGAINST THE INDULGENCE OF THE FLESH. The law cannot get sin out of our life. |

69 | Honor the Sabbath | Ex 20:10 | In the Andes | 53630
Unfortunately, you cannot pick and choose which commandments you want to obey. According to the NEW COVENANT, You are a debtor to keep the whole law. That means...No pork, no shell fish, you aren't to wear clothes with mixed fibers, nor should you have any pets that are mixed(more than one bread) plus 600 and something other commandments. If you break even one of them you have broken the whole law. Also, you've got to make the sacrifices. Hebrews has a lot to say about this. When God changed the priesthood, of a necessity, he changed the law. read heb 6-10. As to what Jesus said. To receive eternal life you've got to keep all the commandments. Yet when the philippian Jailor asked Paul, what must I do to inherit eternal life Paul said... "BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND YOU AND YOUR HOUSEHOLD WILL BE SAVED." Paul says in Romans 10:9-10 that salvation comes because we believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead and confess him as Lord. Acts 15, when the Jews came down and began to teach that the Christians should keep the law of Moses it says Paul had NO SMALL DISCUSSION WITH THEM. You are right, Jesus did fulfill the law. He fulfilled it because YOU CANNOT. According to Galatians. If you are filled with the Spirit, and led by the Spirit, and allow Him to express God through you, Manifest the fruit of the Spirit. LOVE JOY PEACE GOODNESS GENTLENESS PATIENCE SELF CONTROL KINDNESS AND FAITH Against these things there is NO LAW. If you live your life with these items working in you, you don't need any law. Look at Romans 7:10 Speaking of the 10 commandments. Paul says that it brings death. But the Spirit brings life. Hey, you forgot one thing. Jesus also commanded him to sell everything he had and give it to the poor. If we are going to take the commandment literally, we've all got to do that one too. Love is the fulfillment of the law. If we love one another as he loved us, we will fulfill the law. You know the sabbath is Saturday and not Sunday right? We might as well all become 7th day advantists if we have to keep the law. |

71 | Honor the Sabbath | Ex 20:10 | In the Andes | 53619
I've got an even better question for you. Follow in your bible. Deut 4:13 2 Cor 3:6- Ministers of the new covenant-NOT OF THE LETTER The new covenant/testament is of the spirit The old covenant/testament is of the letter(of the law) The letter(of the law) kills. 2 Cor 3:7- The MINISTRY OF DEATH was written and engraved upon STONES. Here's your question...What was engraved upon stones? You got it, the 10 commandments. Paul calls them the letter that kills. the ministry of Death, vs 9 the ministry of condemnation. Gal 3:13- Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law. 4:9 why do we desire to return to bondage again, 5:1 we are not to be entangled again in the yoke of bondage (to the law). 5:2 we are not to try to please God by returning to the rituals of the law, 5:3 If you begin to go back to the rituals of the law, you are a debtor to keep all of it. 5:4 You are separated from Christ when you try to keep the Law (10 commandments) Look at Colossians 2:16 SO LET NO ONE JUDGE YOU IN FOOD OR IN DRINK, OR REGARDING A FESTIVAL OR NEW MOON OR SABBATHS. Since we are redeemed from the curse the law brings, you are free to keep any day you like. Romans 14:5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike, let each be fully convinced in his own mind. Don't let anyone pass judgement upon you. If you don't want to keep any day, don't. A good principle to live by is rest. If you don't rest you'll die early. But as far as pleasing God, forget about it. NO ONE EVER pleased God by keeping the l0 commandments. According to Gal 3 the law which contained the commandments was only in force till Christ came. It was a tutor to teach us we could not save ourselves but that we needed a savior. LEST ANYONE THINK I DON'T BELIEVE IN NOT COMMITTING ADULTERY, LYING STEALING ETC. Rom. 13:8-10 love fulfills the law! Look at vs 9 with further proves the 10 commandments were concidered by Paul to be the law. 5 of them are mentioned and in summation he said "AND IF THERE BE ANY OTHER COMMANDMENT". Vs 10 love is the fulfillment of the law. Jesus Gave the church a new law. See John 14-16 That is the law of love. If you love me, you won't steal my stuff. If you love me, you won't sleep with my wife, etc. etc. You fulfill THAT law by faith in God, and the power of the Spirit. It's a higher law, that only born again christians can keep. We don't have to keep any particular day. And going back to the law was the very heresy that Paul fought in almost everyone of his letters. Isn't it amazing all those scriptures the heresy hunters are using against the prosperity preachers and faith healers directly refer to the heresy of going back to the law. How many of them, believe we must keep the 10 commandment in order to be saved? I give this test to people, Do you believe we must keep the 10 commandments in order to be saved? the overwhelming majority say yes. Then and Ask them to list them. 95 percent cannot list all 10. The ones that can rarely get the order right and if they do, they normally have a catholic background. |

72 | Solve married second time, confess sins? | 1 John | In the Andes | 53617
I'd say, no, neither one of them is living in Adultery. God hates divorce but loves the divorcee. Right? Why would God destroy the lives of 2 small children and 2 spouces by causing them to get divorced to stop the two orginal people from living in adultery? According to Jesus and Paul, Even though God does not like divorce, God RECOGNIZES divorce. I've got a better question for you. Is divorce the unpardonable sin? If you commit it and get married again wouldn't you have to get divorced AGAIN to get out of Adultery? Hey, if you get divorced and remarried, and committed a sin in the process, God will forgive you and forget it so you ought to forgive youself and forget it too. Besides He's not like christians, He's full of mercy. |

74 | Who is qualified? | 1 Tim 6:17 | In the Andes | 53615
I understand what you are saying. But if we were to stop doing everything that might cause an offense, we would be left with nothing. I.e. In India, they consider playing cards a sin. The pentecostals believe that if a woman cuts her hair it's a sin or wears pants. Paul said that weak Christians eat only vegetables. Here in Chile, it's NOT a sin to drink wine, but it is in the states. The list is endless. Paul told us to have faith before God. If I'm around a weak christian I should be aware of his conscience. But I'm not going to buy 2 sets of clothes. Have 2 different cars, and live in 2 different houses to please everybody. Personally, As a missionary. I'm offended (if you will allow me to use that word loosely, as I endeavor to live an unoffended life) by MUCHINARIES. Those missionaries that go to the states wearing old ratty clothes, begging for money, and showing slides of starving babies to get offerings. Or better yet, by christians who think missionaries ought to be poor, because they are stingy and pass it off as "the Lord's will". I've got to be careful not to pass judgement upon them because they just don't know any better. When I first moved here, my wife and I lived without furniture for 7 months. (We did have a bed) But nothing else. We eventually bought a plastic table and 2 chairs. We were content (not dependent upon, grateful, and self sufficient) with what we had. But we recongnized this was not God's will for us. After 7 months of rejoicing in God's provision someone sent us an offering to fill our house. Eventually we gave away our living room suit to a Chileno. 5 months later, God gave us a leather couch. It's a blessing from God, why should I give away what God Himself gave me (I didn't spend 1 centavo (cent) of my own money on it) because some christians are "offended" that it was expensive. "You should sell that couch and use the money to feed the poor" blah blah blah, You sell something that you own. That's what I'm talking about. Who has the right to judge how I live before God? God has been good to us. We are very careful not to bring a reproach upon the Gospel. We take nothing from the Gentiles. 3 John. Our standard of living is comparable to what we left in the states. Mark 10:29-30 The quality of things is a bit different. But that's just because I live in another nation. What bothers me most is the fact that many of God's servants (specifically missionaries) are living substandard lives simply for lack of knowledge. Yes, there are some nations where missionaries go that are backwoods kind of places. Why should they have to come home and beg also. We should take care of God's laborers. My wife and I financially support several missionaries. That's why we didn't have money to buy furniture. We prefer to give into the Kingdom of God and let HIM BLESS US. The truly amazing thing is, because of our obedience, He's given us everything we've asked for. God is Good. And the church argues whether or not it's God's will to bless His children. Where I grew up, when a man didn't take care of his children, we called it child abuse. |

75 | Who is qualified? | 1 Tim 6:17 | In the Andes | 53583
Heresy was not the point. Who is qualified to set the standard as to what is beyond contentment? I'm not saying that it's right or wrong to wear "fancy clothes". I'm wanting to know, who is qualified to say what is too much to spend? Who can judge another man's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Content means self suffucient. It means that you are are seeing to your own things and not putting your nose into other peoples business. We are commanded to mind our own business and to work with our own hands that we may walk properly and LACK NOTHING. 1 thes. 4 No one can look into the heart of another man and discern his motives. That should be sufficient to keep us from deciding whether or not our brother has the "wrong reasons" for wearing "designer clothes". |

76 | Is it erroneous to Say God said NO? | Ezek 28:24 | In the Andes | 53571
1st Peter 5:6 says that God exalts us in due time. Does that mean then that God was exalting the Ministry of Paul and at the same time using the Devil to keep him humble? Sounds kind of psycho to me. I cannot find God "allowing" there either. From what I can see, God was exalting the ministry of Paul in the eyes of the Jews and he was spreading Christianity all over the known world. Act 19:10-in two years all asia heard the word. That's dangerous to Satan. Satan sends a messenger or Angel to beat Paul to persecute Paul and to try and force him to stop preaching. I mean, they even stoned him to death once. Also at Philippi, Act 16, this demon possessed Girl followed Paul around preaching for him. "This she did for MANY days". Finally Paul turned around and cast the devil out of her. Why not do it the 1st day? Maybe he was beseaching the Lord 3 times. Pauls annoyed by this demon and starts whining to God about it. God responds. And I'm Paraphasing it..."Hey wake up! I've given you grace to overcome it. So overcome it." That's what the entire book of 2 Cor is about. 2 Cor 1:8-10 "Our trouble which came to us in Asia" and Vs 10 "God DOES deliver us, in whom we trust THAT HE WILL STILL DELIVER US." I believe it is erroneous to say that God said no I will not deliver you. See 2 Tim 3:11-12. |

77 | Where does it say that GOD GAVE? | Ezek 28:24 | In the Andes | 53566
Question. Where does it say that GOD GAVE Paul a thorn in the flesh? I cannot find that in my NKJV/KJV. Nor in my gk testament.
78 | Who sets the standard? | 1 Tim 6:17 | In the Andes | 53565
Could you elaborate on "heresy"? Your point 1. What brings a persons doctrine to the point of "heresy". Is it ok for a believer, not a preacher, to buy fancy clothes or pink wigs? I know a guy that wrote a book against the prosperity preachers and he lives in a home that's 3/4 of a Million dollars. Is that right? Or a better question would be, who is qualified to set the standard and say "That is too much money to spend on that"? Most missionaries I know think that everyone believer in the states is too blessed financially and they don't give enough. And most christians that I hear about say that the tv preachers get too much. Where's the balance? And why can't we use the dollar symbol in this forum? it'd save so much time. |

79 | What do you mean by separated? | 1 Peter | In the Andes | 53561
Thanks for answering my question. I should have looked up the word pains in my concordance. Next time i'll look further than my cross ref. DUH!?! Since you reminded me to check my concordance I looked up all the entries of hades and none of them refered to the place of paradise. And all of them were refering to a place of torment or a place contrary to the abode of God's people before or after the cross. This leads me to my question. You said "death here is talking about separation from God" Robert Bowman in his book "The word faith controversy" says... "(Jesus) could not be literally separated from God..." Pg173 and refering to Matt 27:46 "Although Jesus' words here may seem to imply that he really was forsaken or abandoned by God, that is in fact not the case." pg 171 He worked at CRI with the bible answer guy. What do you mean by separated? |

80 | Jesus in Hell? | 1 Peter | In the Andes | 53546
I've got a question. I understand what you are saying about the two compartments, but...what does it mean there in Acts 2:24 that Jesus was loosed from the Pains of Death? The same word is used in Rev. 16:11. Also, one more question, It says in Luke 16:22-23 that Laz. was carried to Abrahams bosom not hades and the rich man was in Hades in torments. How can we reconcile that?
