61 | Wife supports sinfull son | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 238188
Hi, and welcome to the Forum. first let me say I agree with EdB but would like to add the following for thought. Participating in or contributing to sin is never the right answer; however, being merciful and acting with grace toward the sinner always is. If you and me were to honestly and carefully consider our own daily sinfulness we will be truly humbled by the mercy and the loving grace that God does afford us. After all, my sin and your sin is no less sinful to God than that sin of your wife's son. As a parent of adult children I try always to remember, when my children disappoint me, that God has already given me the answer in how to deal with them. I won't approve of their sin (no more than He would approve of mine) yet I will never abandon them or stop loving them and doing all I can to protect and correct them. Hope this helps. |

62 | Why am I dealt so much | Bible general Archive 4 | jlhetrick | 238554
Hi, and welcome to the Forum. Will you be more specific with your question? It would be helpful to know what you mean by "some are dealt". For example, who is dealing it to them?
63 | Looking for bible story | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 157879
Hi hnaKC, You may be thinking about the story found in Exodus 32 beginning in verse 1. Verse 26 might be what you have read or heard spoken of. While there is no mention of an actual line being drawn in the sand, there is certainly two sides, one with Moses and one not. Hope this helps, Jeff |

64 | Spiritual growth. Where to go online? | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 160712
Hello Brenda, Hope I'm not reading into your post, but is your internet search in addition to the teaching and growth you are getting from your church? If not, let me recommend that you find a good church that puts the Lord Jesus and the bible as it's priority. Also let me caution you on internet sites, even those recommended by others. There is so much out there and it is not all good. Much false teaching being disseminated out there. When you do find a site research it (try CRI "christian research institute") which is an organization that acts as a "watch dog" exposing false teachings among other things. Be on gaurd against anyone or anything that claims to be or presents as a "new movement". The true church is not in need of any new approach because the one that Christ has ordained is more than sufficient. Hope this is helpful, Jeff |

They are relatively inexpensive or you can spend a little more and get program that you can use for study which includes multiple bible versions as well as commentaries and other tools. And you don't have to log on. Also there are several free download programs. e-sword is a very good one. Jeff |

66 | Shekina Glory Means ? What is origin of | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 163282
Hello, Your right, the actual word is not found in the bible. Check this out for some insight. SHEKINAH SHECHINAH; SHEKINAH Not found in the Bible but in the targums. From shakan "to dwell," from whence comes mishkan "the tabernacle." God's visible manifestation in a cloudy pillar and fire; the glorious light, enveloped in a cloud and thence bursting forth at times (Ex 16:7-10), especially over the mercy-seat or capporeth. (from Fausset's Bible Dictionary, Electronic Database Copyright (c)1998, 2003 by Biblesoft) CLOUD, PILLAR OF PILLAR OF CLOUD. The symbol of God's presence with Israel, guiding them from Egypt to Canaan (Ex 13:21-22). It became fire by night. So in the Red Sea it gave light to the escaping Israelites, while interposing between them and the pursuing Egyptians, to whom it" was a cloud and darkness." When Israel was appointed to rest in any place, it rested on the tabernacle over the mercy-seat, and was named by later Jews the Shekinah (from Fausset's Bible Dictionary, Electronic Database Copyright (c)1998, 2003 by Biblesoft) Hope this helps, Jeff |

67 | THE ELEVENTH COMMANDMENT | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 167090
Hello Ashbury, You have answered your own question. In love is how you should respond. As Hank pointed out, this is a situation that should be dealt with locally. You should deal individually with the other person. Do so in love and with a spirit of forgiveness. If that does not bring resolution, seek counsel from the leadership in your church. Remember that your responsibility to the other person is not determined by his response. Matt 18:21-22 21 Then came Peter and said to him, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? until seven times? 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times; but, Until seventy times seven. ASV Ashbury. Read the parable that follows these verses and think about what the Lord is saying. Our sins against God, even a single one of them, is a much greater offense than anything this person can commit against you. We are thankful, as Christians, that God has forgiven us for all of our sins against Him, even those we have not committed yet. So who are you, and who am I, that we would hold the sin of a brother against him? Hope this helps, Jeff |

68 | what is the church of christ? | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 167279
Hello mdub105 It depends which church of christ you are referring to. There are several denominations that use "church of christ". Some of them are legitamate denominations within Christianity, others are cults. If you are asking who or what is Christ's church, it is the designation given to believers. Every person who has believed in faith on the work of Christ (His death on the cross, resurrection, and ascension) makes up the church of which Christ is the head. Hope this helps, Jeff |

69 | is this Faith in God or just confused? | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 168975
Hello Chrissy, I would like to start my response with what is intended to be helpful advise. In no way is this meant to be mean spirited or negative toward you. We fail from the start, I believe, when we see the bible as a compilation of "verses" that we can look up; finding the right one for the right circumstance that it might be quoted to address and/or resolve our issues. What is needed is an understanding of what those verses, taken in context with the surrounding verses and the wider teachings of scripture has to say. With this said, there is a lot of teaching regarding the institution of marriage found in scripture. The bible also teaches very clearly what God's plan is regarding family and child rearing. If we make our own choices regarding these things, without following God's plan, the consequences can be very negative. I don't believe there is "a verse" that any of us can point you to that will serve any benefit at all in your cousin's situation. However, you might start in 1 Corinthians chapter 7 to begin to get an understanding of what God has said through Paul regarding appropriate/inappropriate relationships and marriage. You sound at a loss, it's an unfortunate situation that certainly should include prayer and hope. Remember though, it is up to your cousin to make her own choices. All you can do beyond prayer, is to provide her with the information found in God's word. Not a verse, but what God teaches us regarding the issue as a whole. I hope this is helpful to you, Jeff |

Hello pacifickost, Did you have a question? Jeff |

71 | Math chpt 5. need blance..... | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 169152
Hello Leia, If I'm understanding your question, the answer is no. We are not called to behave in accordance with biblical teaching in order to make us "stepping stones". We are called to obey/behave accordingly in order to glorify God. This sometimes calls for "turning the other cheek". As for my understanding at this point in my christian life, the bible never teaches us to resist and/or rebuke others for the sake of self. That is, to defend our own pride or honor. Where we are to give a rebuke, is in the defense of the gospel and in declaration of the truth of God. Not that the gospel, or any part of God's truth needs or requires our defense. But we are taught in scripture to be ready to give an answer for our faith and what we believe. Hopes this is helpful, Jeff |

72 | Promises of God listed in the Bible. | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 169167
Hello Psalm 139:13, I don't have a list, it will be interesting to see one though. Welcome to the forum. I'm not knowing what your goal is for having this information, but while you wait for the list, I thought it might be helpful to consider: Not every promise made by God in the bible is a promise for you and for me or for the church in general. Some promises were to individuals, and some to specific nations, such as Israel. You probably already know this, but if not, I thought it might be helpful. Again, welcome to the forum. Also, if your not aware, you can create a profile to let the other members know a little about you. God bless, Jeff |

73 | Matt Chtp 5 | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 169178
Hello again Leia, I could offer a generic answer like "everything happens for a reason" but I wont. I can appreciate your situation, and I don't want to appear to be blowing you off, however, the forum is not desgined or intended to provide counseling or recommendations along these lines. Your situation here may require many levels of intervention, possibly including legal advise. With that said, one obvious and essential inclusion is that of prayer and seeking the direction of God. Things do happen for a reason, but sometimes the reason is caused, or set in motion, or in some way contributed to by the evil forces that we war against as Christians. What we can be sure of, is that God is in control, even when things don't seem to be going our way. Col 1:16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through him and for him. Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. We have to continually learn to trust God and the scriptures teach over and over again that this learning sometimes comes through the hardships we face in life. Mat 6:31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' Mat 6:32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. Mat 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. I hope you are able to grow from this experience. Don't let bitterness take root in your heart. Continue to seek the will of God and to praise Him for all that He has blessed you with and brought you through already. Hope this helps, In Christ's love, Jeff |

74 | God's Voice? | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 170386
Hello dmcwoolford, God speaks to us through His word the Holy Bible. Today, we "hear" God's voice by praying and meditating on His word. If this is not a sufficient answer, please be a little more specific with your question. Christ's Love, Jeff PS. Welcome to the forum. |

76 | job 1-3 | Bible general Archive 3 | jlhetrick | 170545
Hello b50115, Welcome to the forum. Complete a profile and tell us a little about yourself. I took the bait and visited the website. For the sake of others, it lists a whole lot of scientific questions. I also looked back at you previous post which list multiple questions in one post. First, try to limit each post to one plain question (sometimes a follow up question in anticipation is appropriate). For others to respond appropriately to so many questions would require them to use multiple posts anyway due to the limited number of characters one can type in any given post. With that, I have a question for you. Are you saved? If you don't know what I mean and want to know more simply respond appropriately. I ask because this question is the most important of all. Knowledge of the others is of no lasting value to the lost and perishing. Christ's Love, Jeff |

Hello cocwih, I will respond with another question. Why do you ask? A certain adage goes something like this. If you have to ask if it's sin, it probably is. Please don't take this as a YES it refers to and a NO they can't date and marry. But I will say, a 2nd cousin is definately a blood relative. To get you started, Jeff |
