61 | Explanation of Mat. 9:14-17 please | Matt 9:17 | following him | 121677
I believe emmaus is correct. This scripture is not refering specifically to the Holy Spirit; although that may be part of it, but the entire New Covenant. Remember this was an answer Jesus gave to the disciples of John about the way they and the pharisees did thing. Jesus essentually told them that there was going to be a new way of doing things that did not fit within the parameter of the old covenant.
62 | Mark1:1 who does the Gospel begin with | 1 Cor 1:17 | following him | 121675
The Jews were waiting for the coming Messiah and one of the signs of His imminent arrival was the appearance of "One crying in the wilderness" John. This would perhaps from Marks point of view the beginning of the good news that the Messiah was finally going to show up. It does seem like a good place to begin at because they have been waiting for this specific occurance.
63 | Disciples will not die | Matt 16:28 | following him | 121671
This is a difficult passage. I'm not sure about it myself, but I've heard that some believe it refers to those who witnessed the transfiguration. I been thinking it may refer to those who in visions ie Paul's vision where he saw things he could repeat and prehaps John's vision on the Island of Patmos where He did see the Lord coming into His kingdom and descibed it in the book of Revelation. Just a thought.

Look at Matt 16:16. This is where simon Peter responds to Jesus' question; "Who do you say that I am?" Peter answers "You are the Christ, The Son of the Living God." Jesus tells Peter that it was God that showed that to him and warned His disciples not to tell anyone.
65 | Old testament proofs/prophesy of Christ | OT general | following him | 121551
You can start at Genesis chapter 3. It details the fall of man and also promises deliverance. In talking to the serpent God said He would put inmity between the woman and the serpent and between her seed and his. His seed will bruise her seeds heel but her seed would bruise his seed's head. This is in reference to Christ destroying Satan. But there are many others. Many are in the form of prefigurations ie prophecies acted out see Gen 22 for example.
66 | 40 Days | Bible general Archive 2 | following him | 121532
It is not just 40 days. It is the number 40 that seems to be significant. 40 days of rain, Israelites in the wilderness 40 years, 40 years of king Saul, 40 days of Jesus in the wilderness, 40 years of Christ living on earth. You will notice that after all these 40's there is deliverence or the fulfillment of promise. Noah is delivered (the rain stopped), the Israelites go into the promised land, King David begins to reign, Jesus is ministered to, we are delivered from the bondage of sin. There are many other examples. It seemsthe the number 40 is a number of deliverence. |
