Have you really checked into this subject? You don't even provide any Bible scripture to start any real dialouge. I think there are specific answers if you could give a few more details on the question(s) you have submitted. Please elaborate; what motivated you to ask? Dear Deny, CDBJ's response is quite sound and right on target. It appears you and many, many others are at cross purposes with the main objective of this Forum. Our aim here is to solicit and interact with real and genuine students of the Bible. We want to open a good and productive dialouge with you and anyone else that has a very genuine interest in Bible topics, issues and tough questions. BUT we do get a tremendous host of folks who come here asking what obviously looks like what they are and that is homework and trivia questions. The way to offset this appearance is to cite Book, Chapter and verse of the particular topic about which you're asking. THEN after providing BCV, we want to see what your thoughts are about the matter. What motivated you to ask? You know the circumstances, ie sermon you just heard. But most important, start a real and genuine dialouge about the topic. If this is a little harsh, then I would suggest you haven't spent much in your Bible or on the Internet. These are very, VERY reasonable expectations on our part. We want to develop and maintain productive and long-lasting relationships with genuine Bible students. If you can accept these parameters, we would love to have you join us. Please do so. Hope this helps; Go with God in all things, Bill |

64 | Why more than 1 books of Kings an others | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231076
With this question, one has to remember the timeframe as part of the context. Its helpful to remember that the OT was written in Hebrew on scrolls and these scrolls took up quite a bit of room in someone's library. In the case of those Books like 1, 2 Sam, 1, 2 Kings, 1, 2 Chron, the author(s) had much to say and took up a lot of scrolls and thus a little more room in our OT. However, the mode of thought was completely different in the case of the Epistles. In this case, the authors like Paul and Peter were writing to a specific audience, including us BTW. But they were each dealing with specific issues and correcting very specific problems. Thus they were short and to the point with a certain amount of greetings and salutations, etc. The second letters from Paul, Peter and John were those of a follow-up nature. They were checking to see how everyone was making out with previous guidance and answered any further issues of one kind or another. Notice that there are rumors and even hints in Paul's letters that there were most likely a third or even a fourth letter to Corinth. Remember the Corinthians had many, severe problems and Paul felt like a "mother hen" to these people. It's quite obvious that God in His Wisdom didn't think we needed these letters or we would have them in our Bibles. It's quite possible they were just suggested guidance from Paul, not Inspired Commands from God, as Paul did in other letters. We should remember that the Bible was a Process that took over 1600 years to complete with about 40 authors, from all occupations and backgrounds, reflecting the distinct personalities in their writing style. But make no mistake, the whole Bible from Gen 1 to Rev 22 is all Inspired by God Almighty. He just allowed His Message to be given through the pens of these authors to reflect all the wonderful and majestic facets of our God. I think it's noteworthy to see and appreciate the Hand of Providence in protecting and maintaining the Bible throughout these thousands of years. We should revere the tremendous amount of care and respect by the copiers over the ages in this sacred Process. I understand throughout all these copies and the best translations, there's not much more than the tiniest bit of variation and those few are negligible. Hope this helps; Go with God in all things, Bill |

65 | when seeking forgiveness causes pain | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231075
In addition to Makarios' good answer I would add that pain and a little suffering is a good sign of healing just like with our physical bodies. Sin separates us from God and the spirit of a truly Godly person doesn't like to be separated from God. That's why "God wants all men everywhere to repent," Acts 17:30. Also 2 Cor 7:8 For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while. 9 Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. 11 For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter. 12 Therefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of him who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear to you. When a grievous sin is involved as it appears to be in your case, then the trauma, pain and suffering as described above is a little more severe. BUT the best thing is the end result; after genuine Godly repentance is done then the healing can begin. Go with God in all things, Bill |

66 | Am I living as Christ would want me to? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231074
I'm also thinking along with Ed's good advice that you'll want to add these features to your "walk with God." Check your armor of God, Eph 6:10-18, making certain you don't have any weaknesses. Almost impossible to do but we have to try and reach full maturity in the Lord. Then you might want to check your list of "fruit of the Spirit," as listed in, Gal 5:22-26. After you get all of this perfected, again tough to do, then you can move on to my last suggestion. BTW, one needs to go back and constantly maintain ALL of this stuff on armor of God and fruit of the Spirit, as it's easy to neglect one and then fall into temptation. Next I would say you probably need a soul mate, a person different from your spouse. Although your spouse is your very best friend here on earth and should be an invaluable source of encouragement and love toward your goal of Heaven, a spouse doesn't quite understand ALL the deepest details of the opposite sex. I'm suggesting a soulmate in whom you can trust and confide your most intimate secret weaknesses as described in... 1 John 1:5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. Our soulmate of the same sex will better understand the innermost and basic drives that separtes us from our mates. After all, there really is some wisdom in the book, "Men from Mars and Women from Venus." Your soulmate along with your spouse will pray for you and pray with you in your effort to reach the very best person for God you can be. After perfecting all the above, including regular and thorough maintenance, I'd have to refer you to someone else for further work, probably in person. But I do firmly believe we can never really achieve Perfection in the same way as our Lord but we must try. He's looking for our best efforts and intentions. Also achieving any modicum of success in this program is all trash and useless as far as "earning our way to Heaven." That can NEVER be done; instead we MUST put our faith and trust in the life-saving Blood of our Lord. Our attempts at growing and maturing in our walk with our Lord is merely just giving back to Him what we owe Him for saving our souls AND our lives from sin as depicted in His Parable, Matt 18. We're the one who owes Him "ten thousand talents" or more and can't hope to EVER pay Him back or earn our way out of debt. Hope this helps; Go with God in all things, Bill |

68 | Bible verse needed, I can't find it. | Luke 22:61 | Bill Richardson | 231071
Welcom to the Forum, Fjord1901. I believe this is that for which you're looking: Luke 22:54 Having arrested Him, they led Him and brought Him into the high priest’s house. But Peter followed at a distance. 55 Now when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat among them. 56 And a certain servant girl, seeing him as he sat by the fire, looked intently at him and said, “This man was also with Him.” 57 But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.” 58 And after a little while another saw him and said, “You also are of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!” 59 Then after about an hour had passed, another confidently affirmed, saying, “Surely this fellow also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying!” Immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” 62 So Peter went out and wept bitterly. Yes the famous Peter, impulsive like so many of us, ready to fight for Jesus but afraid to stand up for Him when He just wants our alligence. Most sermons on this subject contrast this story and Peter's subsequent meeting with His Lord in his underclothes as he was in the water fishing, John 21. The most beautiful aspect is Peter's repentance and restoration to His Lord, later that same chapter. Now the most powerful contrast is shown with the tragic role of Judas. Sure he betrayed His Lord but he too could have repented and been restored but he couldn't forgive himself and instead commits suicide, Matt 27:5. What a tragic yet powerful contrast showing the two basic ways to respond to the Lord's invitation. Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. 21 To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. BTW, this is our preferred manner of responding here on the Forum where everyone can see and participate. We're all interested in getting your input and open a dialouge on this subject. Tell us what motivated you to ask this question. Also, for your reference and assistance in the future, all you need to do to look up a passage in the Bible is use the Search Engine to the right of your screen. I prefer the BibleGateway website. In this case I just inserted "Peter turned" and found the passage in spite of the fact that it was Jesus who turned His Head. That's one of the amazing features; it looks for those two words in the verse. Makes it easy for all of us. Let us know how we can help you further. We're your servants. 69 | How was Jesus fastened to the cross" | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231055
In supplement to John's good answer, I thought I would give just a little more information. I just discovered a very good and thorough website on this subject, http://the-crucifixion.org/ In this website, the writers do take the position of nailing the wrists to the cross because it is a fact, nails in the palms of one's hands would just be ripped out with the "waves of pain." That brings me to the main point I wish to emphasize. IF you really want to know ALL of that which our Lord endured, click on the link, "Physician's View" and you'll see a horror story worse than anything on TV. Seven times our Lord said some pretty amazing statements and each time brought a truly inhuman amount of pain and torture. Click on this link and find out why. Even the strongest men in the world crucified in this manner would cry out in pain. Here's a clue: just drawing a breath of air to keep on living meant standing up on those nails in your feet. One CANNOT draw a breath while on the cross in this extended position because the diaphram can't draw in air that way. Yes, excruciating! But our Lord did this for us, you, me and the whole world, "while we were yet sinners." BTW, I understand in the Jewish world at that time in the first century, the wrist really was considered part of the hand so even if the nails were driven into the wrists, the Jews still called it the hand. 70 | bible verse- don't go to bed naked | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231044
The only thing of which I can think that might lead one to such a conclusion was the incident with Noah and his son, Ham. The story is provided in Gen 9. A person could possibly blame Noah but ultimately that is for God to decide. Would we want to take a chance and sleep naked and wake up with those kind of consequences? Tough question; one I would choose to avoid. Go with God in all things, Bill |

71 | OT Parallels | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231042
One of the more famous "foreshadows" from the OT was depicted by Noah and his family in his ark, comparing the church, not of the world but in the world of sin. Notice the one single entrance, and the one single avenue of getting information through the window. Of what does this remind you? The animals all inside getting along with each other. The water outside (sin) trying to break into the inside with the rain falling down imitating the worries of the world. The pitch in between the boards of lumber keeping the boat together just like Christ keeps us together with His Prayer of Unity. Yes, many parallels. Then there's Moses rescuing the nation of Israel from Egypt just like Christ rescues us from the world of sin. Moses even intervened and prevented God from destroying that same nation just like Jesus is our Advocate for us to God's Judgment Bar of Perfect Justice. Ad lib: "Father, he/she is one of Mine; they're good to go into Heaven." The blessing of Jacob instead of Esau was from God from the very beginning of his life, before Jacob left the womb. Jacob finally got the point in blessing Joseph's second son instead of his first. Just like we see from God in... 1 Cor 3:18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”; 20 and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” 21 Therefore let no one boast in men. Who would have ever thought of a Perfect Leader of all mankind to be born in a manger (cattle feed bin) and then sentenced in a mockery of a trial and executed in man's most painful and wicked way to die? God did; in His Way of turning the world's thinking on its ear. Jesus said it best in... Luke 22:25 And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those who exercise authority over them are called ‘benefactors.’ 26 But not so among you; on the contrary, he who is greatest among you, let him be as the younger, and he who governs as he who serves. 27 For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves. But in answer to your basic question, I know of no such "Chart of OT Parallels." The comparisons above are some of those I've heard all my life in various sermons. You might search the Internet for a book or an article on such a topic. Go with God in all things, Bill |

72 | How do you help a controlling person? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231041
I can only think of an old suggestion given to me many years ago by a good friend. He noticed and told me that I tend to be a controlling type person. I admitted it to him, in confidence, don't you know. Then he became one of my best friends by saying this, (he got it from an E-Mail): "If you're hooked on being the pilot in your life, move over!!" Yeah, caught me by surprise, you bet. All I could do was shut my mouth and that's tough for me. If we want our lives to go well; if we really want closer and better relationships with those that really mean a lot to us, we need to give up the wheel and settle for being the co-pilot. We need to give up being "first fiddle" and settle for second place. An addiction to anything in our lives, including our being in control is just another idol in between us and our God and can very well keep such a person out of Heaven forever. If that doesn't shake up your friend, I don't have a clue as to what else would do it. Just plant the seed, tell 'em you love him/her and that you'll continue praying for them. And then let God do the rest, including the humbling of their heart. Don't forget about them or give up on them; check 'em every once in a while. Ja 5:13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. 19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. and Prov 16:18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. 19 Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud. 73 | Just asking a simple question. | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231040
The church is quite simply the Bride of Christ, Kingdom of Heaven, Matt 25 or His Body, Rom 12, consisting of those who believe and obey Him as Lord and Saviour of their lives, Matt 28. The Bible, Matt 25 also descibes such a group of people as sheep as opposed to goats who are the unbelievers. Then we're also described as "living stones and a spiritual house" in 1 Pet 2:5. In verse 9, Peter refers to us as a "chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people." All these names for the church merely describes the many different features or characteristics of this group. We're a kingdom because Christ is our King whereas we're His sheep because He's our Shepard. Similar images can be drawn from all the names cited above and I've probably left out a few more from His Word. The most important feature to the world is our only difference from them. ALL human beings are sinners; the big difference is as obedient believers, we're saved from our sins whereas the disobedient believers like the demons are already sentenced forever to eternal damnation, James 2:19. Now some object to becoming part of the church, saying "There may be hypocrites in our midst." But notice one doesn't get out of the life-saving boat in the ocean because of the chance of two-faced people in that same boat. We're just grateful for the salvation from drowning. We should think similarly and re-read Jesus' story of the wheat and the tares. Matt 13:24 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”’” Go with God in all things, Bill |

74 | Why did the Nation of Israel perish? | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231039
In the sense that Jews can no longer trace their family lineage to Abraham and God no longer accepts their sacrifices, the Jewish nation no longer exists. This was all predicted by Jesus in Matt 24 and fulfilled on or about 70AD. This destruction is described in great detail at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Destruction_of_Jerusalem#Destruction_of_Jerusalem Yes, true enough in 1947 after the ending of WWII, the world Governments convened and decided to re-establish the nation of Israel. But it's not quite the same as cited above, as they no longer have that very special relationship with God as provided during the Law of Moses in the OT. Heb 10:1 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins. 16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” 17 then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. But also please understand the Blessings from God to Abraham did include the world's Greatest Blessing and that was the Life Saving Sacrifice from God's Own Son. This too was part of God's Promise He made to Abraham and renewed to Isaac and Jacob. I'm convinced all of this was in the Mind of God from the beginning in Genesis 3. I can only respond with scripture. Matt 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ Go with God in all things, Bill |

79 | Law suite | Bible general Archive 4 | Bill Richardson | 231034
Since you haven't responded with any details as Brad requested, I can only think to refer you to Paul's Guidance in 1 Cor 6. The most powerful and challenging verse to live up to is... 1 Cor 6:7 Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated? The most important item to remember is to NOT embarrass the church or make our Saviour ashamed of our behavior, especially in front of the sinful world. Now true enough, you could bring the matter to those wise and mature in your congregation to make such decisions. But it doesn't do the church any good to "air our dirty laundry" in front of the world and bring shame and reproach on His Bride. I know this is tough to do as I've been there but it's better than the alternative. Go with God in all things, Bill |
