581 | origin of the devil | Ezek 28:13 | humbledbyhisgrace | 184195
Greetings Jeff! Yes, I would think verse 27 would not read as it does if that were the case. I would think there would be other scriptures as well that read different then they do if that were the case! Also, thank you for your kind words! The truth is, I find it heard to articulate a discussion on the forum many times as with only text as the medium we always risk appearing argumentative or as if we assume authority of scripture when trying to discuss opposing views and/or seeking clarification on something. That's why I like forum members like Sister Azure around. She has such a graceful way with her words it is a good reminder and influence on the rest of us :-) By Faith, Steve |

582 | origin of the devil | Ezek 28:13 | humbledbyhisgrace | 184192
Greetings Jonp! You redirected me to this post so I took your direction and read through your post several times. This is what I'm left with... I would think if these things you have presented were correct and a valid argument that the "Us" and "Our" in Genesis 1:26 was an "angelic court" we are left with a problem because there are other INSPIRED scripture that clearly refer to God as the Creator the maker of all things (Ecclesiastes 12:1, Isaiah 40:28, Isaiah 43:1, Isaiah 44:24, Romans 1:25, 1 Peter 4:19). How would those that developed such an argument as you have presented address the fact the same Holy Spirit that inspired the writing of Genesis also inspired these scriptures that speak of God as the Creator and mention nothing of the assumed "angelic court" and their assistance in the creation? I would still have to say the text of Genesis 1:26-27 does not allow for such an interpretation of an "angelic court". I would think verse 27 confirms who the creator was and who's image it is spoken of in verse 26. God Bless, Steve |

Greetings Jonp! Yes! This is exactly why the statement I questioned concerned me. This is the type of message that should be delivered. As stated, the other post/statement would leave one questioning the ability of Christ to uphold His Church, His people that He died for! Or even perhaps a false assumption it would be up to them and not Christ! Thank you for clearing this up! And Praise God for a saviour that has saved a people that could not save themselves! I will see your other post as you suggested. Thank you again! God Bless, Steve |

584 | origin of the devil | Ezek 28:13 | humbledbyhisgrace | 184178
Greetings Jonp! Thanks for responding! Let me respond to the question regarding the church and satan first. I agree, our only hope against satan and evil is in God. I would think it foolish of us to think on our own we could stand against satan or even our own sinful nature without Him. The word clearly teaches us the lost are dead in their sins, a slave to sin, their hearts hardened against God, unable to please Him and cannot even subject himself to God (Ephesians 2:1; Romans 6:17, John 8:34, 2 Corinthians 4:4, Ephesians 4:18, Romans 8:7-8). So I think it’s safe to say without God we cannot stand against satan. From scripture it would appear to me satan has no opposition from us at all without God interceding. What I would disagree with is the teaching that the church (the body of Christ) even in it’s infancy as you say would not have lasted 5 minutes. The fact is, the head of the Church is Christ Himself (Ephesians 1:22, Ephesians 4:15, Ephesians 5:23, Colossians 1:18). There is no denying satan is powerful, but to say Christ church was or is in danger of not lasting because of him I fear is misleading and could be confusing to some. This could lead to the belief / teaching satan is on equal footing with God which in turn could lead to all kinds of false teachings and beliefs (My opinion). I don’t believe that was your intent so please understand my motives are to try and clarify for myself and others reading along. Your thoughts on this? In regards to “the angelic court are assumed in God's words 'Let us make man in OUR image' (Genesis 1.26)”. Genesis 1:26-27 (NASB) 26 Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27 And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. I don’t see where the text allows for an “angelic court” interpretation. Verse 26 says “…Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness…” Verse 27 says “And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him …”. We know from scripture God created man and He created man in His image. Let me make sure I’m not misinterpreting you. When you say “the angelic court are assumed in God's words 'Let us make man in OUR image'” are you saying that it is assumed that God was talking to the angels when he said “Us and Our”? The scriptures you reference (1 Kings 22.19, Daniel 7.9-10) does not support that assumption nor does the text of Genesis 1:26-27 in my opinion. I’m not aware of any scripture that would lead us to believe man was created in the image of God and the angels nor that the angels had any part in the creation of man. Your thoughts? God Bless, Steve |

585 | origin of the devil | Ezek 28:13 | humbledbyhisgrace | 184152
Greetings Jonp! If you would, can you please explain what you mean by the following? What angelic court is assumed in Genesis 1:26? And also you said "If he had not had him under restraint the church would not have survived for five minutes." Are you referring to the "Church" the body of Christ that which Jesus Christ is the head (Ephesians 1:22-23, Ephesians 4:15, Ephesians 5:23, Colossians 1:18)? If so, what are you basing this on? Thanks and God Bless, Steve |

586 | evolving or devolving? | Matt 16:28 | humbledbyhisgrace | 183828
Greetings jonp! Perhaps the discussion has reached a point it is no longer productive. It appears it has lead to assumptions that cannot be proven by scripture and therefore is only one's opinion. The fact is, none of us know what Adam's intellectual knowledge was outside of what the scriptures reveal to us. Anything after that is speculation at best. Was Adam born a child? Are you assuming what he understood was "learned" like a new born child? Assumptions that cannot be argued from scripture leads to bad teaching. Keep in mind there are many who read along with the post and when we become none scriptural we run a great risk of confusing and/or misleading others. I don't think that is your intent but unfortunately that is where we end up when we become dogmatic on things that cannot be proven by scripture. By Faith, Steve |

587 | The Tree of Life...? | Gen 2:9 | humbledbyhisgrace | 183586
Yes, this is why I was confused by the statement "prolonged life". As I understood the scripture to mean literally "live for ever". Prolonged life as I understand it doesn't mean "for ever" so I was looking for clarification on what you understood it to mean. I looked at an outline of biblical usage for "for ever" and your choice of words "prolonged life" and wondered if you understood this scripture to mean something different then they way I was understanding it. That may sound silly to some but consider the outline of biblical use found on the blueletterbible.com web site for "for ever". 1) long duration, antiquity, futurity, for ever, ever, everlasting, evermore, perpetual, old, ancient, world a) ancient time, long time (of past) b) (of future) 1) for ever, always 2) continuous existence, perpetual 3) everlasting, indefinite or unending future, eternity Can you see my confusion? :-) By Faith, Steve |

Greetings Brother! Can you clarify what you mean by the statement "the potential benefit of prolonged life it might have provided was removed" The part that is throwing me off is "prolonged life". Thanks! By Faith, Steve |

590 | Abiding in Christ | Bible general Archive 3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 183411
Greetings Brother! My understanding is it is essential that we abide in Him! In so doing the Father is glorified and our joy will be made full! We will experience spiritual growth! When we do not we are fruitless and can do nothing! We are to submit to Him as Lord and truly become His disciple! John 15:1-11 Our walk should be as His walk (Complete obedience!) doing all that has been commanded of us! (1 John 2:6, John 6:38, Philippians 2:8, John 8:29,28, John 5:30, John 4:34, John 12:49, John 14:31 to list a few!) I would agree with Murray in regards to the great loss. Consider the contrast of abiding in Him and not. John 15:6-7 6"If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. 7"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you." I think Murray’s point regarding the loss sums it up well. Help us and teach us to abide in you Lord! Amen! By Faith, Steve |

591 | Baptized before serving in choir | 1 Cor 12:13 | humbledbyhisgrace | 183304
Greetings Brother! Amen and Amen! To all that I say Amen! Understanding of our own nature has been one of the greatest blessing I have been given. Although it is ugly to see, so much growth I believe has come from this understanding in my own life. It clearly shows us how far off the mark we really are. It serves to keep us humbled and also gives great insight to the changes God himself is making in us. Of course that should serve to strengthen our faith as it becomes clear He is truly working in us and teaching us to hate sin and turn from it. Praise the Holy Father for his Grace and Mercy! Excellent point Brother! By Faith, Steve |

593 | Saints | Bible general Archive 3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182956
Greetings srjosepena and welcome to the Study Bible Forum! Of course it's okay to believe in saints as long as it is based on biblical truth. The most recent one that I'm aware of is a young boy about 9 years old that joined the ranks of the saints just this past Sunday. Praise God! I'm sure he is not the most recent though as the Lord God is drawing his saints to Him daily! According to the scriptures, all believers are saints. "The word saint comes from the Greek word "hagios" which means “consecrated to God, holy, sacred, pious." It is almost always used in the plural, “saints.” "…Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he did to Your saints at Jerusalem" (Acts 9:13). "Now as Peter was traveling through all those regions, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda" (Acts 9:32). "And this is just what I did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons … “(Acts 26:10). There is only one instance of the singular use and that is "Greet every saint in Christ Jesus…" (Philippians 4:21). In Scripture there are 67 uses of the plural “saints” compared to only one use of the singular word “saint.” Even in that one instance, a plurality of saints is in view “…every saint…” (Philippians 4:21)." - Taken from www.gotquestions.org. You can read more at http://www.gotquestions.org/saints-Christian.html on this subject. By Faith, Steve |

594 | What is your favorite Bible edition? | Ps 119:105 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182787
Greetings Brother! I have different favorites :-) KJV - Cambridge - Presented to me when I was 15 by my Grandparents. 27 years latter when I was given the gift of salvation from our Lord I ran home, dug it out of storage as I realized it was God's written word to mankind. I finally picked it up and made good use of it. It's my favorite for sentimental reasons! UNASB - Thin Line - Red Letter - Zondervan - Contains OT and NT, Concordance, Promises from the Bible, Perspectives from the Bible - This is my most used bible. I really like the NASB! I have several study bibles but my favorite is the ESV Reformation Study Bible - Ligonier Ministries - High quality, very well made, almost too nice to use :-) I'm afraid I'm going to mess it up! I couldn't do it justice so take a look around this site for more details of the features etc... http://www.reformationstudybible.com/ Actually, I do use it as what is inside is soooooo much more valuable then the appearance! Praise God for His word! By Faith, Steve |

596 | Hating your parents, what does this mean | Luke 12:51 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182739
Greetings suzievette! Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! Allow scripture to interpret scripture and perhapes the meaning will be clearer for you. Matthew 10:37 (NASB) "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me". We must put the Lord Jesus first before all others and all other things. It should be noted as well we are to put Christ first even before ourselves (Matthew 10:38-39) Matthew 10:38-39 (NASB) 10:38 "And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me". 10:39 "He who has found his life shall lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake shall find it". God bless, Steve |

597 | NISB | Bible general Archive 3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182690
Greetings Brother! I highly recommend the ESV Reformation Study Bible. I got one for Christmas from my wife this year. I LOVE IT! It's put together well and get this, whoooo hooooooo it's got the word of God in it. I had to add that :-) The only complaint I have is the small type. I'm approaching that age where I find myself struggling to focus on the small type. It's not too bad yet but I can tell it's coming :-( I don't know if they make one with the large print or not. I never found one. Praise God for the Audio Bible, preachers and teachers! Steve |

598 | DEPRESSION AND CHURCH ATTENDANCE | Bible general Archive 3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182685
I did look into purchasing one recently for a sister in Christ who wanted a study bible. I opted for a different one only because I couldn't find anywhere local to check it out. Sort of what your going through now :-) It is a different method of study based on what I read. I think I might like to have one also to complement the others I have. Sooner or later I probably will :-) Here is a link to Amazon.com and the NISB. It will allow you to take a glimpse of the NISB and the layout. Maybe this will be helpful. http://www.amazon.com/New-Inductive-Study-Bible/dp/0736900160 By Faith Sister!, Steve |

600 | Gracious Humility | Phil 2:3 | humbledbyhisgrace | 182641
Greetings Brother! In my opinion, I understand this as two distinct attributes. I don't see the term "Gracious Humility" as a distinct attribute in and of itself. I see them as perfectly complementing each other and indicative of the perfection of our Lord God. I would agree that these are attributes of God. We also have direction to be like Christ (Philippians 2:1-18) and it is our desire as a child of God to be like Christ. As I understand it, this passage of scripture not only teaches us to be humbled but also gracious (Ver 3 and 4). Do you understand "Gracious Humility" to be a single attribute so to speak?
