5601 | I Cor. 13:2 vs 13:9; all knowledge? | Mark 9:23 | Searcher56 | 8792
Chris ... The pronouns in 1 Cor 13:1-3 are I (and there is the word "if"). In verse 9, it is we (where there is no word "if). In verse 9, he also does not mention faith. Now is Paul talking about himself about having partial prophecy and knowledge? Probably, but the other points are not included in verse 9. He says we only do these two in part, because that is our limitation. There is no contractiction between verse 2 and 9, nor with the issue of faith. Steve |

5602 | Steve, more insight please! | Mark 9:23 | Searcher56 | 8780
Chris ... My answer does not change. It is possible to have mountain moving faith and all the rest. BUT, if there is no love, the person is nothing. Steve |

5603 | Mat 17:20 vs I Cor 13:2? | Mark 9:23 | Searcher56 | 8779
Chris ... Here you are asking another question. He changes the pronoung in vv. 9-10 and only covers two if the items in vv. 1-3. It possible to prophecy all mysteries and have all knowledge B-U-T if there is no love, the person is nothing. Verses 1-3 are possible ... and Paul is not saying any different. Again, all he is saying no matter what you do, if you do not have love, you are nothing. My answer is still the same. Steve |

5604 | Implications of Mat 17:20 vs I Cor 13:2? | Mark 9:23 | Searcher56 | 8754
Chris ... No matter how powerful Paul's faith was, if he did not have love, he was nothing. To anweer your question, yes, it is possible to do all the things in verses 1-3. But, without love, he and each one of us would be nothing. Love is the capstone, as seen in verse 13, as well as other passages. Searching Scripture Steve Ps I think I captured some of Nolan's thoughts. |

5605 | Does Bible speak on denominationalism? | John 17:21 | Searcher56 | 8751
Hank ... God HATES it. Our Lord prayed for unity. The early church did solve rifts: - Acts 6:1-7 providing food for the Greek widows. - Acts 15 giving and taking with the new Greeks. I think Satan knew what his job was - to divide us. Then in 1 Cor 1:18-4:13 Pual addresses the issue of divisions in the church. We need to find a way to overcome the minor issues that divide us, for one we will need each other, like our brothers and sisters who are dying for their faith (Heb 10:33-34). 5606 | Does the Bible say gambling is a sin? | NT general Archive 1 | Searcher56 | 8748
mumu ... The Bible does not teach that gambling is a sin. Some say that it is becuase the Roman soldiers "gambled" for our Lord's clothes (John 19:23-25). Others say a small amount is okay, but, to "take food out of the children's mouths" is a sin. Then some add if you spend money on things like art and do not provide less for your family, it is sin. I would classify gambling as a dark gray, because we are stewards of what He has given us - not just our treasures (Luk 19:12-27), but our time, too (Eph 5:15-16). Are we spending each wisely ... gambling or something else. Searching Scripture Steve |

5607 | What was the first language of Adam/Eve? | Gen 11:1 | Searcher56 | 8716
gubber ... The Bible does not say. It probably was the language mnetioned in Gen. 11:1. After verses 7-9, I think no one ever spoke that language again - the Lord confused the language. Searching Scripture Steve |

5612 | Year of Jubilee possible in capitalism? | Lev 25:33 | Searcher56 | 8633
Nolan ... I don't think it is a command that fits us. Lev 25:2 says "when you enter the land." So I take this to mean the Israelistes only. Lev 25:8-55 (xref Deu. 15:1-18) talks about the Jubilee. Also, read Exo. 21:2-11 as another cross reference to verses 39 to 55. There were strict gudelines on how to handle the purchase and the return of property. The passage you referanced is about the Levites. In verse 30, the non-Levites di not get their house inside the walled city during Jubilee. I don't think we could understand all the rules God laid out, much less follow them. Tho some farmers fallow part of their land for a year, or the used to. I don't think they ever let it rest for two years. I know there is talk of having a Jubilee and forgiving the poor nations? Can we rich nations do this? Why not forgive all what we owe. 5613 | How do we remit | Matt 7:13 | Searcher56 | 8631
Sharp ... John 20:23 literally says. "Those whose sins you forgive, have already been forgiven ..." God does not forgive sins because we have and not forgiven them if we withhold our forgiveness, If that was so, who would be mightier? John 20:23 refers to evanglism. In verse 21, it says He is sending them. Our preaching the gospel has an effect if someone is forgiven of their sins. It is up to the person if they accept or reject Christ. Nolan is correct, we are not baptized for the remission of sins. If you study Acts 2:38, repent and forgiveness of sins are in the present tense and baptize is in the future. 5614 | Spies gave her? | Josh 2:18 | Searcher56 | 8619
Prayon ... I first thought it was what she used to let them down with (vs. 15), but the words are different. In verse 15, it is chebel and in verse 18, chuwt - which could of been a thread from one of their garments or even hers. It was not very bulky, as the rope would of been. Searching Scripture Steve PS Nolan, I hope you don't my two cents. |

5615 | Where did Seth find his wife | Gen 4:26 | Searcher56 | 8613
Jim ... it was his sister, or another close relative. The Bible does not mention any of the daughters of Eve and Adam ... plus only three sons. Seth was a lot younger than Cain. There was no prohibition against marrying a close relative, even when the four couples stepped off the ark. There was a need to marry a cousin (or sibling) for the next generation. 5616 | I need to know if this is a cult? | Titus | Searcher56 | 8611
donnag ... I would say it is not a cult. History shows that cults grow, because they find some way to appeal to people. What are the marks of a cult? Go to Gal 1:6-12. - it draws even Christians away - it is a different gospel, which is not really good news - the message will cause confusion - it perverts the gospel of Christ - the message seeks approval of men, not God - it is something man made up Those are the signs in this passage. 5617 | Was Jesus a Nazirite? | Num 6:2 | Searcher56 | 8609
Nolan ... I say Jesus was not a Nazirite. A Nazirite is quite different from a Nazarene. A Nazarene is an inhabitant of Nazareth, but a Nazirite is a Jew who has taken special vows In Matthew 2:23, we read that Mary, Joseph, and the child Jesus settled in Nazareth, in order "... that what was spoken through the prophets might be fulfilled, 'He shall be called a Nazarene.'" I can not find this prophecy in the Old Testament. Jesus drank wine (Matthew 26:29, Mark 14:25, Luke 22:18), so could not have been a life-long Nazirite. Some say that Christ's vow to not drink from the fruit of the vine, right after, He placed Himself under the vow of the Nazirite. But, that is only one of the three parts. He could of taken the Nazirite vow during His lifetime, on earth. But, we do not know. His 40 day fast probably was not a vow. I hope both of these answers satisfy you. Searching Scripture Steve |

5618 | Nazirite can't drink wine? | Amos 2:12 | Searcher56 | 8607
Nolan ... It forbidden for a Nazirite to drink wine because God said so. Maybe because even grape juice affected the mind, the incident with Noah (Gen. 9:21) ... but, these a guesses. It is one of three prohibitions of a Nazirite, by God's word (Num. 6:1-8) (1) no alcohol, including all products of the grape vine (2) have uncut hair (3) no contact with the dead These requirements were treated as external signs of a vow. Most of the time, taking the Nazirite was temporal. Only Samson (Judges 13:7) and John (Luke 1:15-17) were in it for life. When the period of the vow ended, the Nazirite then burned his shaven hair and presented a number of offerings to God (Num. 6:10-21). |

5619 | Who is the great harlot in Rev. 17? | Rev 17:18 | Searcher56 | 8420
Nolan ... I do not think so. The rest of the chapter does not fit Rome. Verse 10 says the seven horns are seven kings, five have fallen, one is, and one is to come. Then it talks about the beast being number eight (vs. 11). She also sits on many waters (vs. 1). Jeremiah described Babylon as a city which dwells by many waters (51:13). The historical city of Babylon was built on a network of canals. But the meaning of the many waters is found in verse 15 "Then the angel said to me, "The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages." How do the seven hills fit this city, as well as the rest of the passage? I do not know, unless it is the five nations that ruled over Babylon, that are gone. Rome was ruling over her at the time. Is the seventh in place now? - God knows. I do spend much time studying this book, expect for the first three chapters. So I lack knowledge in this area. Searching Scripture Steve |

5620 | Jesus calls Herod a 'fox'? | Luke 13:32 | Searcher56 | 8418
Nolan ... A fox is small, cunning, troublesome, and noted for killing harmless creatures. Let me ask you, were these Pharisees really concerned about Jesus? Or was it something else? I am thinking He may of thinking they were foxes, too. I say this based on the word "that." In Luke 23:6-12, Herod eagerly wants to meet this man of God, not to kill him but to witness miracles and to hear Jesus’ words of wisdom. Jesus had a purpose to what he was doing. Jesus had a plan (vv. 32-33), the Pharisees, nor Herod could detour or deter Him. Mark 3:6 indicates that the Herodians and Pharisees began to plot how to Kill Jesus. We see this plot again in 12:13. So why do the Pharisees warn Jesus? Steve Searching Scripture PS I am not sure how to interpret this in light of Matthew 5:22. I do not see a relationship. |
