4901 | How do you meditate? | Josh 1:8 | DocTrinsograce | 125633
Good answer Mezan. I think it should be pointed out that meditating is not some kind of mystical experience or something. It is really just the lost art of thinking. In biblical terminology, when you meditate on something you are thinking about it, turning it over and over in your mind, seeing it from different directions. We used to use words like cogitate, ponder, contemplate. You chew over an idea when it is good food for thought. As believers, of all people, we should be practicing this every idle moment. Give your brain good food to chew on... get as much scripture into it as you can.
4902 | Galatians 3:19: ordained through angels? | Deut 33:2 | DocTrinsograce | 125606
When the Law was prescribed the Lord appeared with a great company of angels. Apparently it was articulated by the angels, rather than by the Lord. (The Lord reserved for Himself, however, the speaking of the promise; i.e., the enjoining of covenant.) You will see further statements refering to the angels participation in giving the Law in Psalms 68:17, Acts 7:53, and Hebrews 2:2.
4903 | Searching for the truth | 1 Cor 11:3 | DocTrinsograce | 125578
Moses Death answer: How: By the word of the Lord (Deut 34:5) Why: By the word of the Lord (Deut 3:26-27) Where: Land of Moab (Deut 34:5) When: Just before Israel entered Cannan (Deut 34:6) We also have a passing reference in Jude to Moses' body. |

4904 | Ezekiel 47, 1-12 and Revelation 22, 1-2 | Jer 2:13 | DocTrinsograce | 125537
The water reference in Ezekiel 47 and Revelation 22:1-2 do sound connected. From what I can find in my own tradition there seems to be some debate about how they ought to be connected in a prophetic way. Perhaps this is less of an issue in Roman Catholic tradition. Nevertheless, if I were to write on this, I would probably focus on the redemptive power of Christ. I think it can be clearly demonstrated that He is the living water (John 4:10 and Rev 7:17) that flows from the throne. The woman at the well was trying to drink from a broken cistern (trying to find fulfillment to her thirst through relationships with men). God offers this this water freely (Is 55:1) and in abundance... but oh how often we turn instead to broken cisterns! I'd also compare and contrast such passages as Isaiah 41:17-19, John 7:37-39, Psalm 102:16-17, etc. I look forward to seeing future posts from you, Brother Arek. God bless you, sir, as you search God's Word. |

4905 | beware of fortune tellers? | Deut 18:12 | DocTrinsograce | 125533
Yes, In the Law it states "There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God." Deut 18:10-13 In the OT if a prophet was not always correct all of the time, he was condemned as a false prophet. (So much for Jean Dixon!) Furthermore, if such folks don't point to the Triune God of scripture, they were to be avoided. See Deut 13:1-3 "If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul." |

4906 | Looking for a Time Line of History | Bible general Archive 2 | DocTrinsograce | 125471
Use Google and enter "biblical time line" (with the double quotes). There's lots of stuff out there.
4907 | What year was the Revelation written? | Bible general Archive 1 | DocTrinsograce | 125437
To the best of my knowledge John Wycliffe, John Knox, William Tyndale, Martin Luther, John Calvin, Ulrich Zwingli, Phillip Melanchthon, Sir Issac Newton, Jan Huss, John Fox, John Wesley, Johnathan Edwards, George Whitfield, Charles Finney (must we include him???), C. H. Surgeon, Matthew Henry, Adam Clarke, Albert Barnes, E. B. Elliot. H. Guinness, and Bishop Thomas Newton thought it was written somewhere from 95 through 96 AD. Its possible that Augustine, John Chrysostom, Cotton Mather, John Gill, John Haley, Sir Winston Churchill, W. C. Handy, R. C. Sproul, and John Kerry accepted this time period as well.
4908 | Do auras exist? | Lev 26:6 | DocTrinsograce | 125422
There is no reference to aura's as such in scripture associated with human beings. If aura's do not exist, then they are "against God" in the sense that God is only about truth. Perhaps there is nothing against aura's per se... but there is much of the trappings of the occult that is very much against God and His holy ways. God is about truth. He chooses to reveal Himself through His word, not through spirits or mystical experiences. Satan, the great deceiver, however, is not so "encumbered." |

4909 | who will drink the cup with god? | Rev 14:10 | DocTrinsograce | 125402
Specificly (relative to this phrase), "those who worship the beast (see verse 9). In general, however, God pours out His wrath on: (1) the fallen angels and those who follow them (Rev 19:20), and (2) Christ Himself in His atonement (2 Cor 5:21) in our stead.
4910 | Personal life plan | John 3:30 | DocTrinsograce | 125391
I am only a feeble brother who has not attained any greatness. If I've attained anything at all, it is entirely by God's grace. It seems right to me, though, that you seek the Lord and where He is working rather than seeking a "vision for yourself." The former is God centered, the latter has self at the center. However, if it appeals to you there is an excellent pattern for commitment, that I would suggest you look up on the web the resolutions of Johnathan Edwards. You could take these and work them into something a bit more contemporary for yourself. God bless you to the same degree that He is glorified in your life! |

4911 | Why would he kill 70 men4 looking in ark | 1 Sam 6:19 | DocTrinsograce | 125366
Please see Deut 29:29... God is thrice Holy... He is very exacting in how He is to be approached. Treating Him or anything He has declared as Holy as a common thing brings down His eventual wrath. The wonder is not that He killed 70... the wonder is that He spared any!
4912 | what traits must you have | 2 Cor 1:21 | DocTrinsograce | 125361
No Christian is a "good Christian." A Christian is one chosen by God as His own (Eph 1:4), saved by the shed blood of Jesus Christ (Rom 5:8), and sealed by the Holy Spirit (Eph 1:13 and Rom 5:5). Every Christian bears fruit (John 15:8) and will persevere to the end (Rev 2:11). All of these things are an act of God (Heb 12:2).
4913 | What is missionary dating? | 2 Cor 6:14 | DocTrinsograce | 125272
Sorry, I forgot to define "missionary dating." As I understand it, this is the practice of dating someone with hopes you will win them to Christ.
4914 | What is missionary dating? | 2 Cor 6:14 | DocTrinsograce | 125271
This behavior is contraindicated for the believer by scripture. My mother used to say, "You marry who you date." Given that aphorism and this scripture passage makes things pretty clear. (One could also challange the entire modern notion of dating, but I will leave that to others.)
4915 | Significance of gourds in TEmple | 1 Kin 6:18 | DocTrinsograce | 125247
I believe your reference is 1 Kings 6:18. In my very humble opinion, a better translation of the word "gourd" might be egg. The passage does appear to be talking about a shape or design. Its possible that it is just an architectural form common at the time. Alternatively, perhaps these designs refer to fruitfulness. We do not have any scriptural reason to assume that they had more significance than this. We must be careful not to over spiritualize things. Scripture is used to interpret scripture. Since this is the only reference to these gourd-shaped-carvings, perhaps they are just gourd-shaped-carvings.
4916 | What or where does "outer darkness" mean | Job 10:22 | DocTrinsograce | 125245
The old Baptist comentator John Gill states that the phrase "outer darkness" refers to "the Gentile world, and into judicial blindness and darkness of mind, and into the blackness of darkness in hell..." He sites several Rabinical sources to make his case. Matthew Henry also compares these verses with Job 10:22.
4917 | Predestination | Eph 1:4 | DocTrinsograce | 125226
Regeneration always preceeds conversion. Lazarus needed healing and resurection before he could respond to the command to come forth.
4918 | Jesus questioned Peter's love? | John 21:15 | DocTrinsograce | 125224
In my humble opinion, I believe He questioned Peter three times so that Peter could affirm Him once for each denial. Nothing magical here, just Christ being gracious and forgiving. However, something does seem to be revealed in that when Christ asked "Do you love me?" He used the word agape. However, when Peter answered, "You know that I love you" Peter used the words "phileo."
4919 | Has God already chosen who he would save | Eph 1:4 | DocTrinsograce | 125222
Matthew 22:14 says that many are called but few chosen. Romans 8:30 states that the called are saved. Job 21:30 states that the wicked are preserved for judgement. God does the converting, we simply proclaim the truth. We take the gospel to a dying world because we are commanded to do so by the Lord. (He preached to and healed some of the very people who shouted "crucify Him!") I recall a quote by C. H. Spurgeon, "If God painted a yellow stripe down the back of every elect person, I would go around London lifting up shirt tails. Since He has not chosen to do that, I must preach to all men." I hope this helps. |

4920 | describe the different loves agape etc, | John 21:15 | DocTrinsograce | 125217
The two most frequent Greek words in the NT that we translate as "love" are agape and phileo. See Strongs 25 and 26 for agape and 5368 for phileo. Agape is a total and sacrificial kind of love. Phileo is a strong affection. In Greek there is also a word eros that refers to the sexual affection.
