41 | why jesus is lord | Gen 1:1 | tortoise | 112810
nikkiydup, What do you have a hard time? In any case I offer a few. 1 Cor 15:3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 1 Cor 15:4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 1 Cor 15:5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 1 Cor 15:6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 1 Cor 15:7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 1 Cor 15:8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. |

42 | Is habitualy working out acceptable? | Gal 5:13 | tortoise | 112728
I do 3 cardios and 2-3 weight workouts a week and I enjoy the weight workouts, but the cardio I figure is good for me so I do it anyway. I can get into a macho thing and I have to back off. For me it becomes sin at that point. I really have to watch that. 1 Tim 6:17 says God has given us all things to enjoy. I can't see anything wrong with it. How does it detract from your worship of God? Two and one half hours a week isn't what I would call an addiction. Most people weight train 3 times a week unless they are doing different muscle groups on different days. Isn't that just basic maintanence, good health, and taking care of the vessel that God gave you? I think so. You should also do a cardio 3 times a week, that is just good health. I workout at home so it works best for me to do them on different days; it is easier to find 45 minutes than one and one half hours a day.
43 | What about the sabbath day? | Rom 10:4 | tortoise | 112616
Hi jilliebbean, Mark 2:27 Jesus said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath." Jesus healed on the Sabbath, and the Pharises didn't like it. But I like the Sabbath (well Sunday) and keep it, but not for righteousness, because Jesus in my righteousness. But I work so hard the rest of the week I am not going to get into a panic that I need more stuff and have to stretch my work week to 7 days. God said this day is for you. You can take it off and not work and I will still provide for you. He promises to meet all our needs, Matt 6:33. And since Jesus healed on the Sabbath, and He is our example, we likewise should follow in His footsteps. tortoise |

44 | Is habitualy working out acceptable? | Gal 5:13 | tortoise | 112614
I suppose it is better than watching TV. But what do you mean by habitually? Like 6 days a week for 2 hours a day? I work out 5-6 days a week for maybe 45 minutes. I am trying at to least stay in good shape. But I think of the summer on the boardwalk in NJ with all the people struting their stuff. I think if it is all about me and how great I look it can become a little ego-centric. I tend to go that way myself and have to draw a line and tell myself that enough is enough.

46 | Good start in Bible for new Christian? | Luke | tortoise | 112551
Hi mamabear, You are on the right track already, hungering for the Word of God. I would recommend an introductory workbook, such as Operation Timothy offered by CBMC (International Christian Business Men's Committee). It is basicly a study of major themes running through the Bible that have immediate impact on your life. There are 2 very short books in the series, Part 1 and 2. It asks a few insightful questions and has you answer them by looking up Scripture verses, and has preprinted memory cards in the back. You may contact them for a copy of these publications at: CBMC P.O. Box 3239 Chattanooga, TN 37404 God bless as you walk with Him, tortoise |

47 | Do you encourage change in new christian | Rom 12:2 | tortoise | 112547
The Holy Spirit works in our lives, on the inside, to change us. He uses the Word, and conviction of sin. There are many lists of sins and evidences of His work in our lives. I think of Gal 5. Does she really understand that she has been called to liberty (from sin and dead) to serving one another in love, v13? Verses 19-26 give lists of what should be dropped and what should be added. Keep your disciple in fervent prayer as you work with her.
48 | ways to praise God | NT general Archive 1 | tortoise | 112545
Hi lovelyanna, We praise God when we lift high the name of Jesus and the wonderful work he has done is our lives, Phil 3:3. He praise God when we appreciate all His wonderful love and watchcare over us, Ps 139. We praise God when we bless the Spirit of God for filling us, teaching, leading us and encouraging us, Phil 2:1 and many other Scriptures on the Holy Spirit's ministry. "Enter into His courts with thanksgiving and into His gates gates with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations." Ps 100: 4-5 Everytime we come to God we may come in this fashion, that is in the wonderful name of Jesus. |

51 | Meaning "dead faith" doesn't save? | James 2:24 | tortoise | 112539
Thanks, good, clear answer. The definition of justifies from Rom. 3:4 is solid and convincing.
52 | Meaning "dead faith" doesn't save? | James 2:24 | tortoise | 112332
James 2:14-24 is discussing the relationship between faith and works. James concludes in v24 saying: "You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only". Does not everywhere else in the NT say that we are justified by faith, not by works? "Not by works of righteousness we have done..." Titus 3:5, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and not of yourselves it is the gift of God, not of works..."? What could James be saying here? Is he saying that "dead faith" and "said faith" do not save, but that only real faith can save you, that is if there is root there will be fruit? And then may we conclude that the root supports the fruit and not the other way around so that we may conclude that we are still saved by grace rather than works so that we don't have Scripture contradicting itself?
53 | tortoise, How does Rom 8:1 relate to OT | Rom 8:1 | tortoise | 112146
friend, Is 2 pet 2:2 describing a Christian? 1 John 1: 5-10 is talking to Christians whoever. There is a deep consciousness of sin for the believer. And a struggle to walk with God because of the forces that would pull us down. But, if you are not standing securely in the Father's love for you, you have no chance to survive. Please take a look with me at Romans chapter 7. Paul uses an illustration because sometimes they are easier to get our hands around. v1 "the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives", (go back in your mind to Rom 6:3-10, rememember we died with Christ), v2 "for the woman who has a husband is BOUND by the law to her husband as long as he lives." There is our word bound that we are discussing. v3 "...but if her husband dies, she is free from that law". v4 "Therefore, my bretheren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, ...". The law no longer holds you in its sway. Good thing too, see what v5 says. "For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death." See, this freedom from the law is a good thing to enable us to serve Christ. v6 "But now we have been delivered form the law, having died to what we were held by...so that we should should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter". Our esential relationship to the law has changed wouldn't you say? Remember we are saved by grace alone, but saving grace is never alone. I am not under the law, but I am free to serve God instead. tortoise |

54 | verse says no longer bound by old test? | Rom 8:1 | tortoise | 112142
No, we are not unrestrained by the law. Rom 6:1 makes that clear. Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? Rom 6:2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Rom 6:10 says, "For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. " Christ died to set us free from the law, remember, "no condemnation", see "once for all"? If you are not free from sin how are you free to serve God? Rom 6:22 But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life. Rom 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Is it not the gift that has set us free to serve God? Without the gift there is no freedom to serve God. John 8:36 "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. |

55 | Jn20:23Permision to Judge yes or no? | John | tortoise | 112140
Hi some1sbubba, Good question. Has someone taken the authority of judgment out of the hands of the Father? I think they have. Do you remember the story of Peter preaching to the Greek centurion Cornelius, Acts 10:42 "And He ordered us to preach to the people, and solemnly to testify that this is the One who has been appointed by God as Judge of the living and the dead." Peter preached salvation in Christ, and they believed and the Holy Spirit fell on those who heard and believd. Outside the church forgiveness always comes through the cross. Inside the church there may be cause to believe that the elders possess authority to mediate disputes and make judgments which those who hear better take to heart, Matt 18:16-18 may be an example of this. But salvation is the NT is offered to the world through the gospel. Rom 10:13 'for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED." Rom 10:14 How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?' We then offer salvation which Christ has bought to the world. He has commissioned us to do this. God bless, tortoise |

56 | tortoise, How does Rom 8:1 relate to OT | Rom 8:1 | tortoise | 112136
When you say bound, what do you mean? Do you mean that we are required to keep and obey them? Then what do you mean by required? What will God do if you do not keep them? Everyone will be judged by their works, whether good or evil. But when one receives Christ as their forgiver and leader they will no longer be brought under judgment and punishment for sin. Before one accepts Christ if they break the law at all they must die. The law has lost it's deadly grip on you; it can no longer kill you, and you are free from it. So you are not bound by the law as you once were. But does the moral law still represent the righteousness of God? Yes. Should Christians still walk in righteousness? Yes. But not out of compulsion, rather out of love for what Christ as done for you. Furthermore before you accept Christ the Bible says, Romans 6, that you were slaves to sin. That is you were bound by sins grip and you could not escape, but now, praise His Holy Name, we have been loosed from sins deadly grip and are free to serve God. But we must deny ourselves and choose to serve God. Does this explain how as Christians we are free from the law, death and sin? And for the asking He will fill us with His Holy Spirit and help us live for Him. John 8:36 "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.
57 | Is it wrong to have a passionate kiss? | 1 Thess 4:5 | tortoise | 112090
1 Thes 4:5 "passion of lust", lust is sexual. If passion becomes sexual it belongs in marriage. Is it just the touching in this way that causes the passion or do you have the passion when you are just walking or talking? These is love, affection, and passion of lust. Oh, and slippery areas in between.
58 | verse says no longer bound by old test? | Rom 8:1 | tortoise | 112086
Sure is! When you accept Jesus as your Savior you are forgiven forever and that is it. You cannot break a law that will bring down God's judgment on you (no condemnation or judgment). But God has many guidelines for His children. Are you His child? Then do you want to follow Him and please your heavenly Father. You do know that He loves YOU so much that Jesus laid down His life to deliver you from destruction. It's not about a bunch of rules but the power of God to help you live your life.
59 | Is it wrong to have a passionate kiss? | 1 Thess 4:5 | tortoise | 112084
Tator Bug, Can you both show affection without arousing each other? If you do nothing to arouse each other you will be OK. If either of you get aroused you are going too far and should STOP. 1 Thes 4:4-5 appears to be God's standard for this situation. I believe that following God's will for me is really for my best interest. Do you feel that way too? A single guy. |

60 | If it's ONLY foreplay is it still wrong? | 1 Thess 4:3 | tortoise | 112075
Tator Bug, Searcher gave you a good answer. In my Bible I have the following passages underlined in 1 Thes 4:1-8. "ought to walk and please God" v1, "possess his own vessel in sancification and honor" v4, "not in passion of lust like the Gentiles" v5. "For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness" v7. Is what you want to do uncleanness or holiness? That is my only question. A single guy. |
