41 | Is Gambling a Sin? REf. Please | Bible general Archive 1 | philemcc | 76832
We could discuss if the act of gambling, like so many other things we can do, in itself is a sin, but there is a bigger question. How does it effect those around you? Rom 14: 14 (I know and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself. Still, to someone who considers a thing to be unclean, to that one it is unclean.) 15 For if your brother is hurt by what you eat, you are no longer walking according to love. By what you eat, do not destroy that one for whom Christ died. 16 Therefore, do not let your good be slandered, 17 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. philemcc |

42 | why did job repent ? Did he sin? | Job 42:6 | philemcc | 76807
The word repent means a change of mind or direction. This is what happened to Job as explained by his own words as he answered God. Job 42: 3 You ask how I dare question your wisdom when I am so very ignorant. I talked about things I did not understand, about marvels too great for me to know. 4 You told me to listen while you spoke and to try to answer your questions. 5 In the past I knew only what others had told me, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. 6 So I am ashamed of all I have said and repent in dust and ashes. philemcc |

43 | Resist His will? | Rom 10:17 | philemcc | 76799
I would have to say yes or Jesus would not have prayed: Matt 26: 39 Going a little farther, He fell on His face, praying, "My Father! If it is possible, let this cup pass from Me. Yet not as I will, but as You will." Also it is not God’s will for man to reject Him but: Rom 1: 21 For though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became nonsense, and their senseless minds were darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles. 24 Therefore God delivered them over in the cravings of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. philemcc |

44 | When was genesis written? and by who? | Bible general Archive 1 | philemcc | 76700
As I thought about your question this verse came to mind. Luke 20:37 And Moses clearly proves that the dead are raised to life. In the passage about the burning bush he speaks of the Lord as "the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' 38 He is the God of the living, not of the dead, for to him all are alive." This is Jesus saying that Moses wrote Exodus so it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that he wrote Genesis. If it was Moses that would answer the when. philemcc |

46 | Did Jesus die for the whole world? | Rom 10:17 | philemcc | 76683
It keeps coming back to whoever will,, 1 John 2:1 I am writing this to you, my children, so that you will not sin; but if anyone does sin, we have someone who pleads with the Father on our behalf—Jesus Christ, the righteous one. 2 And Christ himself is the means by which our sins are forgiven, and not our sins only, but also the sins of everyone. 47 | Is hearing necessary for salvation? | Rom 10:17 | philemcc | 76681
If a person hears and believes the truth of the gospel then repentance and confession are a given, not a act to be performed but the results of the change in their belief. Two examples are: Job 42:4 You told me to listen while you spoke and to try to answer your questions. 5 In the past I knew only what others had told me, but now I have seen you with my own eyes. 6 So I am ashamed of all I have said and repent in dust and ashes. Isaiah 6:5 I said, "There is no hope for me! I am doomed because every word that passes my lips is sinful, and I live among a people whose every word is sinful. And yet, with my own eyes I have seen the King, the Lord Almighty." Phil |

48 | John 1:18 "only begotten God". | John 1:18 | philemcc | 76613
I can’t help but step in here. I am not a student of the original languages or do I read many different translations of the Bible, my personal choice is NIV. What John 1:18 means to me is, that the unwilling heart has never seen God even though God can be clearly seen as explained, (Rom1: 19 since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them. 20 From the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse.) God had to reveal Himself to the world in a way that would force it to make a decision. If we were not able to see God why would Jesus have said, “ Blessed are the pure in heart, because they will see God.” Phil |

51 | "God uses the weak to confound the wise" | 1 Corinthians | philemcc | 76472
Yes,, 1 cor 1:26 Brothers, consider your calling: not many are wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth. 27 Instead, God has chosen the world's foolish things to shame the wise, and God has chosen the world's weak things to shame the strong. 28 God has chosen the world's insignificant and despised things--the things viewed as nothing--so He might bring to nothing the things that are viewed as something, 29 so that no one can boast in His presence. 52 | whole armour and significance | Eph 6:13 | philemcc | 76453
The significance of this armor is that it is spiritual, the battle is not against flesh and blood. While which piece covers which part would be helpful to meditate on I do not believe it is important in understanding the protection each piece provides. Phil |

53 | Do all those in Romans 1:18-20 hear? | Rom 10:17 | philemcc | 76448
They could; Mat 13:14 In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled that says: You will listen and listen, yet never understand; and you will look and look, yet never perceive. 15 For this people's heart has grown callous; their ears are hard of hearing, and they have shut their eyes; otherwise they might see with their eyes and hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn back--and I would cure them. God does not just let people go their own way,, Jam 4:5 Or do you think it's without reason the Scripture says that the Spirit He has caused to live in us yearns jealously? 6 But He gives greater grace. Therefore He says: God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Hope this helps Phil |

54 | Insights, background on Mark 6:7-13? | Mark 6:7 | philemcc | 76368
One thing to keep in mind when we read these verses is that one of the 12 was Judas. He was given the same powers and abilities as the others. Jesus’ reason for sending His disciples out was not to change the world but to teach them who He was. In Luke 10:18 He said to them, "I watched Satan fall from heaven like a lightning flash. 19 Look, I have given you the authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy; nothing will ever harm you. 20 However, don't rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." 21 In that same hour He rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and the learned and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, because this was Your good pleasure. 22 All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son desires to reveal Him." We can get carried away with the power of God when it is our relationship with God that is important. Jesus qualifies the true believer in Matt 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord!' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to Me, 'Lord, Lord, didn't we prophesy in Your name, drive out demons in Your name, and do many miracles in Your name?' 23 Then I will announce to them, 'I never knew you! Depart from Me, you lawbreakers!' Hope this helps,, Phil |
