41 | Is Moses in Heaven or Hell | Bible general Archive 2 | flinkywood | 117407
Henry and Emmy, Are you aware of how much Jesus preached hell in His ministry? If so, how does is your picture of Hell agree with His? Colin |

42 | Is Moses in Heaven or Hell | Bible general Archive 2 | flinkywood | 117422
Henry and Emmy, Before we talk about the existence of hell, "Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. "For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Mat 7:13-14) 1) Is Jesus the uncreated, co-eternal Son of God? 2) Why did Jesus come down from heaven? 3) Did Jesus ever preach of a place where the damned would suffer in eternal separation from God? 43 | Bible version can become an idol? | Bible general Archive 2 | flinkywood | 117563
Rowdy, Are you aware that the Moral Law (10 Commandments) is distinct from the "law" (ceremonial)? Kalos is correct: we are absolutely to obey the Moral Law, it is a requirement (see Kalos' last post in this string). In fact, it largely because of this moral requirement upon us that God gave His only begotten Son... It's His Son who finally enables us to do the Law. The Law isn't void by any means. Diligently studying the OT is critical to our growth as Christians, as Romans makes abundantly clear. Colin |

Rowdy, is it a fact that God was forced to "turn His back to His own Son"? Was Jesus really just a "little apprehensive" about going to hell? Was Jesus worried about one "single impure thought" allowing the devil to keep Him in Hell forever? How do you know these things? Colin |

Emmaus, It seems that, "My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me?" (Matt 27.46; Mark 15.24) can be interpreted to mean that God actually forsook His Son. What do you make of Jesus' words here? Colin |

Emmaus, Great post. I knew you'd come through. Did you notice that that Pharisees, scribes and other nasties also utter the prophetic words of Psalm 22:8 (unwittingly or otherwise) in Matthew 27.43? "'HE TRUSTS IN GOD; LET GOD RESCUE Him now, IF HE DELIGHTS IN HIM; for He said, 'I am the Son of God.'" Only a short time later Jesus cried out verse 1. What amazing presence of mind He had. I wonder what impact His chosen words had on those ears? Colin |

Rowdy, No, the bible is not clear on every point, but your "answers", often abound in speculation which is not carefully vetted with cross references. Because the bible is not always literally explicit, we are obliged to dig (2 Tim 2:15). You should be aware, for instance, that Jesus' words come from Psalm 22:1. Can you think of any instance in Jesus' ministry when he takes OT scripture out of OT context? What is the theme of Psalm 22? In light of that Psalm, and in context of that moment on Calvary, why did Jesus choose to speak verse 1? The other stuff from your post in question goes beyond conjecture into the realm of imagination. Colin |

Custard, I think you're onto it, though what Jesus thought and felt in those hours is way, way beyond me. What an amazing man He was. I'm also amazed by what He tells His sleeping beauties, the disciples: "...the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." (Mat 26:41). I think of this, perhaps incorrectly, as insight into His own conflict. Colin |

Rowdy, I can tell you're fired up for the word, and that's way cool in my book, brother. I've learned a load from posting on this forum. It'll happen to you too, guaranteed. Attack those cross references! As my Bible teaching friend Hugh used to say: "Dig!" I'll look at your "challenges" later on, okay? Colin |

Hank, Yes, it fulfills the forum's purpose, which ideally should be to educate and mutually encourage through objective, reasoned argument founded in the verity and deity of Christ (1 Cor 3:11). From Webster's 1828 dictionary: Objective: "2) Belonging to the object; contained in the object. Objective certainty, is when the proposition is certainly true in itself; and subjective, when we are certain of the truth of it. The one is in things, the other in our minds." Argument: "1) In logic, an inference drawn from premises, which are indisputable, or at least of probable truth." "Study to show thyself approved unto God..." (2 Tim 2:15) KJV Approved: "4) To make or show to be worthy of approbation; to commend. 'Jesus, a man approved of God.' Acts 2. "This word seems to include the idea of Christ's real office as the Messiah, and of God's love and approbation of him in that character." What I hate to see on this forum is someone defending his perfect "argument" by pointing out his challenger's lack of Christian love. I wish that ugly little harpie would disappear from this place forever. "Let every one of us please his neighbor for his good to edification." (Rom 15:2) KJV N'est pas, monsieur Hank? Colin |

Hank, it's late, I'm in a tax quagmire, seeing quadruple, and reading your post for comic relief. Your personal translation evolution is a neat, sweet treatise on the whole kit-and-kaboodle. I like that you like the NASB; I like liking it myself. I'm in it all the time. Trustworthy, you bet; I even like the warty awkwardness of it, the way it bangs resolutely down the pitch, cleats and all, clawing it's way through the Psalms, teeth clenched, snorting and groaning, kicking up the mud and grit, aching for the goalpost. It ain't no sissy translation! Man, I gotta get some shuteye Colin |

56 | Does the OT apply to us as christians? | Bible general Archive 2 | flinkywood | 118470
Rowdy, you might be confusing the OT with the cermonial laws imposed after the apostasy of the golden calf (circumscision, feast days, animal sacrifice, etc.); otherwise, I can't make sense of your assertion that the OT lacks "authority" over us as Christians. 1) Could you please explain (succinctly) what you mean by "authority"? Nearly one-half of all Paul's OT citations are in Romans, and nearly one-half of these deployed authoritatively in Romans 9-11. 2) Can you imagine Paul agreeing with you about the "authority" of the OT? 3) Have you read the OT completely, by the way? Colin |
