Hank: What a fine way to describe each of these Bibles. I doubt I have read any better review of the different Study Bibles. I do not have the MacArthur, but do have several of the other study Bibles. My wife also askes me "do you think you have enough Bibles?" I have found my favorite Bibles are just the Scripture with no study helps. I use the NIV, NASB and the ESV but mainly the NIV. Often I have all three out when reading. For me Bible study and reading the Bible are different. When I study all the helps I can dig up are there, and the different Study Bibles. When I just read the Scriptures, that's when I just feed on the Word and allow the Word to speak to me. What I believe is that each Christian needs to be aware that each of us are responsible for our own spiritual growth. The Worship service is just that...Worship. We need instruction, encouragement, and conviction from those who preach, and to hear the Good News again and again. I am not sure new believers are told they are in charge of their own spiritual growth, or the lack there of. I am sure your knowledge of the Scriptures did not come in a few hours of study a week, but rather over many years of your born again life. Just a few thoughts to chew on. justme (out of the pit) |

43 | Most accurate translation of Bible? | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 210814
heart4missions: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! I like yoor pen name, my wife and I have a sincere heat for missons as well. The Amplified Bible is just what it says...amplified. The words are given a wider and more depth of the meanings of the words. For just reading it is sometimes a bit laborsome, as it is easy to get tangled up in the many choices of words. I have said the best Bible is the one you read. Just getting Christians to read the Word is a huge task. We live in a time when people would rather hear than read. The bible is the best selling book of all times, but it is the least read as well. Proberly most of us might admit it takes real dedication to stay in the word on a consistant basis. For just reading I enjoy the NIV best of all, but sericous study is often found in the NASB for me. Thanks for your note, I hope you enjoy the SBF. justme |

45 | Prayer Request from My Family | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 212045
Shelly: At first I thought you must be a new person to the Study Bible Forum, but then I saw your user info. May I kindly say what you did and said was very wrong. All that was asked was to pray and leave the message posted, When you made your statement to skccab, you removed the prayer request so none of the rest of us could pray for him. The better and kinder thing would have been to just pray for him and leave it alone. There has been twice I ask for my life to be in the center of Gods will. Both time I was very near going to be with the Lord. Please take what I have said as respectful and as a kind way of saying, please lets support one another when a very special request crosses out path. Blessings. justme |

a humble messenger: Welcome to the Study Bible Forum! I might be wrong, but do you belong to the "Yahweh Assembly" group or denomination? I have read their material, and what you say is what the materials say that have read. Have you read the introduction to the NASB? There is a very good explimation as to why the name of Yahweh was not used by the Lockman Foundation translators. I personally would have no issue if the NASB or the NIV or for that matter the NKJV used the word Yahweh. As Long as using that name was not a dogmatic as a demand for salvation or required for worship. Having dealt with this issue before, the big problem for me is the "Yahweh Assembly" has become so legalistic and dogmatic, there can be no dialogue in a kind respectfully way. I have not found a single requirement for salvation in the New Testament, that we must use the name of Yahweh to be saved. However the Yahweh materials I have read seemed to require using the name Yahweh to be a believer. I do not want to make you feel disrespeced or that I am being unkind, but is this how you understand salvation, and using the name of Yahweh? I am not wanting to debate you on using the name Yahweh. I just would like to know if that is your bellief. Thank you for your response. justme |

47 | The United Stated in the Bible | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 213027
stjohn: I surely hope you don't mean I was not to bright for asking the question from the first. Personally, any question about the Bible that is a sincere honest question is welcome in my opinion. Some of scripture in not fully understood until some discovery is made, like the Hitites for example. The United States, may at sometime in the future, be asorbed by some other country or join into a group of countries. Such events are unknown now, but who knows how or what is in store for the United States? With the huge debt the United States has with China the United States is very vulnurable. I have no idea when Christ will return, but I know we are to be ready. Like many generations before us there has always been speculation that believers were living in the last hours. As Scripture reminds us God is patient and and each day given before His return is grace and mercy. justme |

lionheart: I agree with yoy totally. The idea seemed pretty farout, and it seems to me thetemptation might be to great to drink some. The idea was to me risky. Drinking has not been one of my struggles, but there are plenty of other sins that I do battle with. However I have been involved in several persons lives who really struggled with drinking. Your advice is the very best. Blessings. justme |

50 | can a child be baptised | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 216705
Hopalong: There isno way for the person baptising someone who says and presents themselves as genuine born again to know ondred percent sure this person being baptised is really saved. Only the Lord knows for sure. However it is not the pastors spiritual skill to know totally for sure. Therefore it is not the right of a pastor to say no if his or her testomony is as it should be. Even if the person is not saved and has fooled him or herself this may have an impact that caoused further inward inspection of the persons motives and search their heart even deeper. I believe the Holy Father uses many experiences to bring us to Him. In other words, I agree with you. Blessings. justme |

Searcher:-) It's ok and no need to feel like you are less a Christian because you are not in total agree ment with the Baptist Faith and Message. I have some real disagreements as well. I am a Christian that has agreed to fellowship and support my local body of believers which are SBC. I have sprinklesd an older lady that was near death that insisted I baptised her. In sprinkling her I said it was a symbol of immersion. I have no issue about sprinkling when immersion is not a possibility. My basic under pinnings in the Christian faith are American Baptist. I went to a SBC College, and an American Baptist Seminary so I have some mixed theology in my system. The biggest issue many baptist would have with me is, I believe in ordaining women and I believe women can serve as pastors. Women serve on the mission field in every church position you can think of. In the eighteen hundreds if it were not for women pastors in the US, our growing country would have not had near as many churches or Christians. I believe Scripture does allow women to be in such positions. I have been fully taken to task on my beliefs about women and don't want debate this over again, as I would rather just let whoever think as God leads them. The only Denomination that I find rather angry in nature the GARB which in their statement of faith openly attacks the ABC USA. I don't argue with that either. Searcher as you know Scripture says we are to be convicted that what we believe is truth from Scripture. Minor things are open for debate, solid Doctrines are not. I consider the differences we have as open between us. You are a brother who is well studied and I totally respect you. Blessings. justme |

Hopalong:-) I am not in the camp that says you must be baptised to be saved, but when a person has been a Christian for a good length of time and refuses to be baptised, then I have some serious doubts that as to why they don't follow the Lord Jesus said to be. So there is a line that is dangerious to cross over. Would you agree? Blessings. justme |

53 | Why do we delay baptism, not His Supper? | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 216777
Searcher: I see your point. In SBC churches baptisms are generally done within a short time after public confession. I know it is not true for all pastors, but there are some who go over scripture and give the person sonething to study to grow in the spirit and knowledge of Christ. Sometime durring the lessons when the pastor is convienced there is a genuine beliefe in Christ the person is baptised. I have seen many be baptised with no counseling or even a Bible given to the new Christian. Not giving any Scriptual counsel or even a Bible is my pet peave. To ignore some Scriptual counseling and making sure the person has a Bible is as important as baptism. We have to many uncertian believers that are not sure they are born again. This can only be corrected by the Pastors baptising these people. If the person walks in the invitation and askes to be baptised I see nothing to say we should not baptise then ASAP. As long as counseling follows. Many churches do not allow unbaptised people take Communion. Is that wrong? Blessings. justme |

54 | Petition the Lord with Prayer | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 218559
Manamayama1: You have the Holy Fathers ear and He hears you. Having had many sericos health problems, several time death was quite near. I have prayed for the Lord to put me in the center of His will. What a perfect place to be! What peace there is knowing I am exactally where God wants me to be. Prayer in groups often changes the people praying and God can use their sensivity and they can become His helpers and minsiter to you. I cling to Psalm 139, every verse is full of assurance that the Lord know our life and the days we have. What a help this Chaper has been to many over so many hundreds of years. If the only one praying for me, was me I have confidence and faith that God still moves and hears my prayers. I do not want to beg God for my will, but pray only for His direct will for my life. I sincerely hope that Psalm 139 is a light that will guide your in your time of need. Blessings. justme |

John(:-) Hank was a very unique brother in the Lord Jesus. Hank was practical and yet well educated to be able to express complecated Biblical truth in a profound way. I look foward to seeing him. For sometime I have been listening and watching Todd Freio on Wretched radio and Wreched TV. He uses the Law to show how we can't please God as we are all Law brakers. Then he points to Jesus who took our punishment and if we surrender to Jesus we are saved. This makes witnessing with a plan, Gods Plan, to a pin point and no need to argue or be pushy in witnessing. Just thought you might have heard or seen Todd, at any rate it is well worth listening to him if you have the chance. Blessings john. justme |

59 | Aren't there differences? | Bible general Archive 4 | justme | 220145
Makarios(:-) You have answered Biblically this very often misunderstood question of women in the Lords service. Your answer is the most positive way of studying the Scripture to cause one to think it through and allow for Scripture to answer the question. My sincere thanks, and a job well done! justme |

Makarios(:-) The ethical thing to do is for me to ask you, if I may use your post in a Bible study group? There are tow books that say basicly the same thing as you have posted; WOMEN AS PASTORS If God Calls, Why Not The Church by O, John Eldred Judson Press 1981, and BEYOND THE CURSE Women Called To Ministry, by Ai'da Besancon Spencer Thomas Nelson Publishers 1985. These books are at least a way to understand how those who support women in ministry come to that conclsion. I think it is important to understand how other believers think. I will not in any way attempt to persaude those who are apposed to women in ministry to come to my point of view on women in ministry. Blessings. justme |
