46 | How do you interpret this verse?Note | Matt 6:7 | Timothy Paul | 54530
We must not be proud in prayer, nor aim at the praise of men. This was the way and practice of the hypocrites. In all their exercises of devotion, it was plain, that their primary purpose was to be commended by their neighbors. The will of Jesus Christ is in opposition to this. Humility and sincerity are the two great lessons that Christ teaches us; when thou prayest, do so (v. 6); in particular by yourself, and for yourself. Personal prayer is to be the duty and practice of all Christ’s disciples. I shall remember you in my prayers. Tim |

47 | What is God's will for you? | John 1:1 | Timothy Paul | 54477
BB, your suggestions are well appreciated and taken to heart. There is so much there to study I will devote my freetime for days. Rom 12:2 says that God's will is good and acceptable but it does not define, only describe what His will for us is. Further searching led me to Micah 6:8, "He hath shewed thee, O man, what [is] good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?" So, that is His requirement, but I believe that we have a purpose in life as well. Our purpose here on earth as I understand it, is to exalt the name of Jesus Christ so that through Him our Father God may be glorified. If we are successful in doing this, then we may be granted the privelege of knowing and understanding His will and given the gift of discernment. Or would this be salvation through works? (Eph 2:8,9) Which also brings me to Jer 9:22,23 Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise [man] glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty [man] glory in his might, let not the rich [man] glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I [am] the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these [things] I delight, saith the LORD. Peace and Blessings, Tim |

48 | What is God's will for you? | John 1:1 | Timothy Paul | 54132
Dear inmyheart, Thanks so much for your view (: The written word of God has had tremendous impact on my life. May I share with you a favorite verse from Psalms? Ps. 119:105 relates, Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. What this means to me is that not only is His Word a lamp shining far away to show my feet the bearing to follow, as would a lighthouse to a ship or an airport landing light for planes, but also, it is a light to light up the path my feet are on to prevent a trip or fall, such as a hiker on a dark trail in the woods might be blessed with a ray of sunshine to illuminate an exposed root, partly concealed, that most probably otherwise would have been apt to cause a stumble, if not a twisted ankle, if it were stepped on or tripped over. Again, thank you for your blessed insight, Peace. Tim |

49 | What is God's will for you? | John 1:1 | Timothy Paul | 53986
Dear BB, Thank you for the enlightening passages, there is much there to learn. to pay back in kind, I will suggest you look at this... Romans 6:3 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Following this, please let me add, 6:16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness? (NASB) Peace and blessings, Tim |

51 | I would like to reply to Timothy Paul. | John 1:1 | Timothy Paul | 53646
Another important note on Rev 4:2, is that the apostle saw "in his spirit" Read in context, 4:1 After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this." 4:2 At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. It would be wrong to analyze what the spirit is capable of by comparing it with what the flesh knows. Revelation is often described as symbolic, and the culture was very different, so we must keep that in mind as well. Thank you for your reply, I welcome all. Tim |

52 | What is God's will for you? | John 1:1 | Timothy Paul | 53645
BB,Thanks for your comment, as well as your question, giving me a chance to search the scriptures, which is often the reason I log on. Your question about baptism seems "loaded" to me, only because of so many debates I have witnessed in the past in my short life as a "born again." However I will do my best, and offer the answer that I feel fits the will of God. The view I've adopted is that no, baptism is not necessary for salvation, but it is required for obedience. "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (In context, Act 2:37-38) Now the word spoken through Peter does not tell us repent OR be baptized and he does not tell us repent and MAYBE get baptized. Also, an important verse is Luke 3:16, " John answered, saying unto all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire " So, in conclusion, I must say that only Jesus can baptize us with the Holy Spirit. For Jesus Christ said the final word concerning the salvation of mankind when He hung dying on the cross, and said,"It is finished." Then the curtain of the temple was rent, and the Holy Spirit was released, never to be held in a man-made structure again. He Now Dwells In Us! "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." (1Cor 6:19,20) The baptism of the Holy Spirit is foretold in Eze. 36:25-27; " Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do [them]. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is through Christ, Titus 3:4-7, "But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Hoping to continue, I must cut this short. I hope this answers your question, Any more? Tim |

53 | I would like to reply to Timothy Paul. | John 1:1 | Timothy Paul | 53517
Bless You,MrsB. You've hit the nail on the head when you said our finite minds cannot comprehend. Our feeble minds are so made that there is a need to quantify everything in order to comprehend it. We measure distance in inches, and miles, and in order to measure space, we use light years. This is why we cannot understand God as omnipresent. He is immeasurable and hard to contain in our limited brain. A concept such as three seperate entities being the same one create a short circuit in our logic process. Human knowledge is faulty, therefore misleading, and potentially dangerous. This is why it is hard not to question the attributes of the Trinity and exactly why we should refrain from doing so. We have a tendency to take things out of context and distort the meaning behind the message. This is where we are to become "overcomers!" Let me take you to Rev 3:21 where we are told,"He that overcometh, I will give to him to sit down with me in my throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with my Father in his throne." What we can understand from this is that Christ was bothered by the faults of the flesh, yet He overcame them and became more than a conqueror. So if we conform to Christ in His struggles, then He will conform us to Him in His glory and we shall be with Him in His throne; His throne of judgment at the end of the world, His throne of glory to all eternity. Faithfully, Tim |

54 | What is God's will for you? | John 1:1 | Timothy Paul | 53458
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" The Bible says that nothing escapes the eyes of God the Father: Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. But the very hairs on your head is numbered, Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows (Matthew 10:29-31). God achieves His purpose in our lives in a variety of ways. Since nothing escapes His notice He uses all sorts of circumstances to get His will done in our lives. This includes unbelievers. And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they granted them what they requested. Thus they plundered the Egyptians (Exodus 12:36). Bless God, and God Bless (o: Tim |

56 | The Bible and Science, #2 | Job 26:7 | Timothy Paul | 51456
Hi Parable, Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The first half mentions the north, and in 9:9 the south is mentioned, along with three constellations of stars in the heavens. God has made these wonders to be what they are, and made our curiosity to wonder at them, something that other beasts are incapable of. God's word continually places my heart in awe and wonder. Grace, Peace and Blessings, Tim |

57 | Did ananias and sapphira go to heaven? | Acts 4:32 | Timothy Paul | 50940
Dear jewdiza2j, I am in agreement w/Steve, the only one who knows 4 sure is God. The same answer goes for who wrote Hebrews. The answer is that God, in His infinite wisdom gave us enough info to do what is required of us, and I believe it is best to stick to the basics. In order for us to move to the next level in our spiritual life there comes a time when we must be totally honest with God.It is interesting to see that Jesus, who usually treated sinners with such gentleness, who sat and ate with tax collectors, who forgave sins, always got angry with one sin in particular. That was the sin of Hypocrisy. He called the Pharisees, "white-washed tombs" Looking white and clean on the outside, but inside full of corruption and dead bones. Peace and Grace back atcha, jewd. with Love from above, Tim |

58 | Law and Christ vs Law or Christ? | Bible general Archive 1 | Timothy Paul | 50067
Yes, I agree w/you, Searcher. I would like to add a coment from Matthew Henry on Gal.5:2-4 "That their submitting to circumcision, and depending on the works of the law for righteousness, were an implicit contradiction of their faith as Christians and a forfeiture of all their advantages by Jesus Christ" However there are still requirements of law that still are demanded of us by God today, please see my third posting below Faithfully, Tim |

59 | Law or grace or both? | Bible general Archive 1 | Timothy Paul | 50066
In addition, Christ said in Mat.5:17,Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil.(ASV) God's laws were a gift to us to help us love and obey Him. By Jesus' time, religious leaders had complicated the law into a lot of useless rules. Now, does the OT law still apply to us today? Let us look at the three categories of OT Law: 1.) Ceremonial; This related specifically to Israel's worship practices (Lev.1:2-3). The purpose here was to point forward to Jesus Christ. Jesus was often accused of violating ceremonial law by the Phatisees. After His death and resurrection, these laws were unnecessary, but the principles behind them -To worship and love a holy God -still apply. 2.) Civil Law; This applied to daily life in Israel (see Deut.24:10-11). Because modern culture is so different from that setting, it is hard to try and follow these laws specifically. But the principles behind these laws will never become outdated and should guide our conduct. Jesus taught these laws by example. 3.)Moral Law; This is the Ten Commandments (Exod.20:13) and are direct commands from God. These laws require strict obedience and still apply today. Jesus obeyed the Moral Law without fail. Jesus showed the Pharisees that obeying the Moral Law was more important than explaining it, yet man's way is usually the other way around. Thank you for welcoming these comments, I hope to here from you again soon (o: Praise Him!! Faithfully, Tim |

60 | Law or grace or both? | Bible general Archive 1 | Timothy Paul | 50059
Yes, Too Too Smart, Your point is well taken and the bk. of Gal. is backs you up. see Gal.3:10.(AMP) "And all who depend on the Law [who are seeking to be justified by obedience to the Law of rituals] are under a curse and doomed to disappointment and destruction, for it is written in the Scriptures, Cursed (accursed, devoted to destruction, doomed to eternal punishment) be everyone who does not continue to abide (live and remain) by all the precepts and commands written in the Book of the Law and to practice them." The scripture that Paul refers to here is: (Deut. 27:26 AMP),"Cursed is he who does not support and give assent to the words of this law to do them [as the rule of his life]. All the people shall say, Amen." Now, we must look at the context of Paul's letter. After Paul ministered to the infant Church in Galatia, false teachers came around telling new converts that they were not true Christians unless they lived under the Law of Moses. They claimed obedience to the law was as important as God's grace and a necessary condition of salvation. Paul saw the error in their teaching and wrote the epistle that warns them of the danger of trying to mix law and grace. |
