41 | question to smoke pot or not | Gen 1:12 | 2ndSamuel22 | 54729
Dear zztoaa, You really need to talk to your friend about her sexual lifestyle, which is totally-TOTALLY--UNBIBLICAL. There are many passages which point this out(Lev. 18:22, Lev. 20:13, Romans 1:26-28, I Cor.6:9, Judges 19, Genesis 19) What you need to do, instead of admiring her, is PRAY for her, that God will change her heart, and mind, and that she will turn from the sin, uncleanness, and abomination that is homosexuality. God is my Strength and Power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

42 | question to smoke pot or not | Gen 1:12 | 2ndSamuel22 | 54796
Dear Jeshuafreak, The short answer to this question is "no". For this reason: Consider all the things that are legal under the laws of the land. Abortion. Pornography. Having children outside the bounds of marriage. All these are legal by man's standards, but not by God's standards. I posted earlier to Hank(7/15/02, 2:55pm), that in Galatians 5:20, when the Apostle Paul refers to "witchcraft", that word comes from the Greek, "pharmakeia", meaning--in short--drugs, the use of which leave us open to unclean spirits. I have seen first hand the effects of marijuana use. Don't let anyone tell you it doesn't lead to other things. My stepson started smoking it when he was 15, and within a year he was into drinking, acid, huffing. Anything to get a better high than the one before. That is why we are admonished to avoid this type of "witchcraft". God is my Strength and Power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

43 | question to smoke pot or not | Gen 1:12 | 2ndSamuel22 | 54858
Dear Jeshuafreak, You wrote,"I believe that if it was lagalized for those 21 and over, like alcohol, it would help to keep it out of the hands of our maturing teens." With all due respect, don't think for a minute that, just as kids find a way to get alcohol, they won't do the same thing with pot. It would actually have the opposite effect. Consider this: A man and wife, parents of a teen, realize, "Hey, pot's legal!" and start firing up at home, with no legal repercussions over their heads. Their kid sees this, and, just like when they see mom or dad with a beer, think "hey, that looks cool!". Kid starts smoking, loses interest in everything else, family strife ensues. Then when they find out he's been toking, they wonder where he ever got the idea to start. Use of any mind-altering drug is unbiblical; it is the spirit of witchcraft(Galatians 5:20). If you want, I can post an article from a Christian Native American website detailing one man's experience with peyote. All drugs are a gateway for demons to enter into our lives. God is my Strength and Power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

44 | Who'd Be In Charge? | Gen 24:5 | 2ndSamuel22 | 47574
Greetings Lionstrong! I misinterpreted your original question, and I apologize. According to John MacArthur and Matthew Henry, Isaac would be in charge. Elieazer was Abraham's steward, and would have been entitled to inherit his estate--were it not for the son, Isaac. Also, according to Mr. Henry, Eliezer was to act as a proxy for Isaac, in order to ensure that Isaac would not fall into the sins of the Canaanites. I hope I understood you this time, if not, hand me the mental floss..:-) 2nd Samuel 22:36-37 |

45 | Honor the Sabbath | Ex 20:10 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53643
Dear faith531, Matt 12:2 But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath." Matt 12:3 But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions, Matt 12:4 how he entered the house of God, and they ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone? Matt 12:5 "Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and are innocent? Matt 12:8 "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath." 46 | Muslims - Deut 18:15,18 | Deut 17:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52710
Dear ICor13, I'm just asking, are you talking about Deu 18 or Deu 17? You have "Deut 18" in your title line, but you quote ch.17 for your verse. I mean no offense, merely wishing to clarify If you mean chapter 18, I will offer this response: God says, in Deut 18:20--"But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of OTHER GODS, that prophet shall die." Mohammed, of course, was that "prophet" of the pagan god Allah. Besides, I believe God, when speaking about their countrymen, meant someone of pure Jewish stock. Ishmael, as we know, was half Jewish(Abram) and half Egyptian(Agar). Any further comments are welcome. Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

48 | Does Psalms 22 stand up to the skeptics? | Ps 22:16 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52919
Dear Mandy, You wrote,"With all due respect, Sir, go to Hell...." I will be one of many praying that you will see the truth, that God will open your heart to accept the free gift of the Grace of God through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and that you do not wind up "going to hell." May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

49 | Does Psalms 22 stand up to the skeptics? | Ps 22:16 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53001
Dear Jeshuafreak, We should be praying for Mandy. Let us not forget II Peter 3:9--"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." He wants us all to be with Him in His heavenly kingdom. And we must endeavour to lead people like her to the truth, the Gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 50 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52642
Dear Makarios, Let us not forget Acts 11: Acts 11:15 "And as I[Peter] began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as He did upon us at the beginning. Acts 11:16 "And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'" 51 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52662
Dear fellow believers, Luke 18:17 "Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." (NASB) What does this mean?(And I don't want to hear any new covenant/old covenant arguments). Jesus is telling us, that the path to the Kingdom of God is so easy, that even a child could understand it. Children don't give a wit about doctrine, different paths, etc. They understand John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." Notice, He does not say, "Believe in Me, and get baptized." That is what it means to "receive the kingdom of God like a child". Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

52 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52781
Dear Joe, You said what I was trying to say a whole lot better than I did: "More likely, Jesus is talking about children acutely realizing their need and utter dependence upon someone else for their survival. Children have nothing to offer in the way of self-sustainance and have to rely completely on someone outside themselves for what they need. Just like little children, we have nothing to offer God to merit or earn salvation; we must merely receive what God freely bestows upon His people." If I may clarify what I meant to say in regards to the verse in Luke I mentioned: We are to accept the free Gift of Grace that God has given us, through Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, as a child would receive any gift from their father: By simply accepting it, and not saying,"well, it's nice, but I'd like to add a little more to it." Perhaps "doctrine" was the wrong choice of words. Dogma, maybe? Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

53 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52782
Dear Grace and Truth, Acts 11:16 "And I[Peter] remembered the word of THE LORD, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, ONE BAPTISM, ONE baptism. Which is it? Water, or the Holy Spirit? And for the record(and not to sound spiteful), if you answer me back with "Mark 16:16" or "Acts 2:38", I will consider this discussion closed on my end. 54 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52917
Dear Grace and Truth, In I Corinthians 15:29, what the apostle Paul is saying, is,"If Jesus was not resurrected, then why are so many being baptized in HIs name? Are we baptized in the name of a dead Man?" In reference to Romans 6:3-4, baptism is symbolic of our burial and resurrection with Christ. It is not the water, or even the act, that brings about "newness of life". As it says in I Corinthians 15:45,"So also it is written, 'The first man, Adam, became a living soul.' The last Adam became a life-giving spirit." It is the Holy Spirit quickens us, bringing us out of the grave we were in. Acts 8: In the text from Isaiah 53, which is the passage quoted here, the prophet is talking about a lamb(or, Lamb) being led to be sacrificed. Keep in mind, that when Jesus was crucified, it was in accordance with OT tradition. His blood was on the four corners of the alter(the cross): From His head, His hand, and His feet. He had fulfilled the law(Matthew 5:17), and was the end of the law(Romans 10:4). Acts 11:16 is a sign not only to the Jews, but the Gentiles as well, for the Jews were rebuking him for eating with the Gentiles. And all who are God's children have been baptized with the Holy Spirit. Remember, Jesus is the Living Water, which cleanses our souls. 1 John 5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. 1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. If we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, then we become children of God(5:1) It is this faith that gives us victory.(5:4). And if we truly do love God then we will keep His commandments(5:2, James 2:17). Our faith must show evidence of existing, or it is not salvific faith(James 2:19). But it is not what we do that saves us, but the Grace of God, and the Holy Spirit(John 6:63). Peace be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

55 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52998
Dear Grace and Truth, The grave I was refering to was figurative, as we were "dead in our sins" before we came to salvation. I apologize for any confusion that may have caused. I stand by what I said refering to Romans 6:3-4,that it is not water that cleanses our soul, but the blood of the Christ. No only His blood, but His water as well. Notice in John 19:34--"But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water."(KJV) These are the blood and water that purge our unrighteousness. We are then baptized into Christ by the Holy Spirit. After all, can anything which is under heaven, defiled by man and our sins, truly make us right with God? Should we perform the symbolic act? Of course. Again, it is the difference between "demonic" and "salvific" faith. But it is not a condition for salvation. Just as we are commanded to abstain from uncleanness; but if we do sin, are we then "unsaved"? No. Concerning Philippians 3:10-11. If you would, take a look at the immediate preceding verse, v.9:"And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:"(KJV) Our righteousness, as Christians, comes through faith, and that through God's grace. I Peter 1:3-5 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."(KJV) Notice, Peter says that it is God's mercy, and our faith that brings salvation. Lastly, again in I Peter--1:18-19 "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:"(KJV) He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

56 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53119
Dear Grace and Truth, I agree that water baptism is one of the fruits of a changed life, that if one truly is saved, then they will want to be baptized. But, it is not the baptism itself that does the saving. Holy Spirit baptism does the saving. Water baptism is how we show the world that we do accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Just as in I Corinthians 6, when Paul says,"...neither drunkards...shall inherit the Kingdom of God." It is not the act of drinking(as there are various refernces to support the drinking of wine), it is the desire for it instead of the Word of the LORD(Ephesians 5:18) he is condemning. Water baptism does not save, but if you are saved you will want to be immersed. Just as if you ae saved, you will want to follow all the rest of His commands. I truly do believe that we have pretty well exhausted this argument; if one or the other's mind has not been changed by now, it likely never will. He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

57 | Once saved, aways saved doctrine refuted | Matt 10:1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53995
Dear Grace and Truth, If we are saved, then we are already dead in our sins(Colossians 2:13)--"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you ALL trespasses"(KJV). Key word: ALL The answer to your question is, yes, if we are saved, and even if we die committing a sin, we will go to Heaven. Why? Because "For by one offering he hath PERFECTED FOREVER them that are sanctified."(KJV) Salvation does not refer to a present condition, but a future one. Do we need salvation for anything in this life? No. We need to be saved in order to stand before the Eternal Judge and be pronounced "not guilty"(see Colossians 2:14). And notice in Romans 10:9, the Apostle Paul says "...you WILL BE saved." We will be saved in the Day of Judgment. Besides, what sins did Jesus die for? All of them, or only the ones you have committed in the past? He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

58 | Once saved, aways saved doctrine refuted | Matt 10:1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 54176
Dear Grace and Truth, I need to make a correction to a part of my last post, concerning Colossians 2:13; it was written in haste. col 2:13--When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions. I do still say that when Paul says "having forgiven us all our transgressions", it means all. Past, present and future. We were dead in our sins, but we have been quickened(brought back to life)by and through Him. God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

59 | Once saved, aways saved doctrine refuted | Matt 10:1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 54241
Dear Hank, You have toched upon something people don't consider: did Judas, and Ananais and Sapphira, indeed go to hell? All it says is Judas hung himself, and Ananais and Sapphira were struck dead. One can assume they went to hell, but nowhere is it explicitly mentioned. Would God strike them down, if they were indeed heaven-bound? Yes. He does it every day. Now, consider the man in John ch.5, sitting by the pool of Bethesda. Jesus healed him, then found him later and said, "sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon thee." What is that worse thing? We don't know for sure, it doesn't say. And according to some here, if it doesn't say it, we can't assume it. God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect!! 2nd samuel 22 |

"After looking around at them with anger..." Compare this with Matt 5:22, "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court;..." Doesn't this then make Jesus a sinner? Why does Matt 5:22(NASB) leave out the phrase, "[angry] WITHOUT CAUSE"?(see KJV)
