Dear John Reformed, You must get confused with Reformer Joe quite often! Anyhoo, yes, my point is to quash legalism(Pharisaism, Dogmaticism, etc.) wherever it rears its ugly head. We are to love God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strngth(Mark 12:30). And if you want to bang a drum, or gong, or strum a guitar to praise His Holy Name, then do it!!!! Unless you believe that poor King David(although forgiven for the whole Bathsheba incident) wound up in the Lowest Depths because he SANG for God. To turn the argument(from silence) around, nowhere does it FORBID us from playing instruments. hmmm Continue praising Him, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Dear EdB, I too would agree with Hank in saying that most Pentacostal churches(Holiness, Church of God in Christ, House of God, etc) must cringe when they see their doctrines perverted by Copeland, Hagin, Crouch/Crouch and Hinn. I have a friend in Chattanooga who pastors a House of God church, and although their services are different from Baptists, Presbyterian, and Lutheran, they are carried out with a love for God, and adherence to the true Gospel message. Unlike some other denominations, they do believe in divine healing. However(correct me if I am wrong), it's not the "Get up out of your wheelchair and dance" type some TV preachers deal in. God does heal, but in HIS time, His way, if we truly belive, through prayer and fasting and laying on of hands. I doubt you would see G.E. Patterson carry out the same kind of shenanigans as Ernest Angley or Ken Copeland. Again, if anything I have said is anything short of the truth, do not be offended. Please correct any inaccuracies. Thank you, and God Bless!! Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Dear Jeshuafreak, I hear what you're saying. And if we reeeeeally want to get technical, even spelling God's name "YHWH" is not correct, because those are not Hebrew letters. And He does have so many names: LORD Sabaoth, Father, Creator, Mighty, Sovereign, Merciful. I would run out of words before I would run out of names for my God!! You said--P.S. Jesusfreak was taken when I adopted this name, in case yooue wondered . "Jesus Freak" was one of the first songs my stepson listened to regularly after he was saved. Dear Steve, The people who believe this way don't realize one thing: That when the Jewish scribes copied manuscripts, there were so many steps they had to go through to do it. I found a website, detailing some. I won't go into all of them here, but they were pretty strict. He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Dear Hank, I do appreciate your concern over using the term "freak" to describe a follower of Our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ. Let me explain a little about the song I mentioned: There is a Christian rock group(not to open a dissertation on THAT phrase) called DC Talk. There most famous song is called "Jesus Freak". They actually turn the tables on those who use that term derisively. The chorus goes like this: What would people think when they hear that I'm a Jesus Freak? What will people do when they find out it's true? I don't really care if they label me a "Jesus Freak" There ain't no disguising the truth I think you get the picture.:) He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Dear Tim, While we are on this subject, I am looking into getting a Hebrew/Greek lexicon, and there are several I am interested in. I am leaning towards Vine's, and Nave's seems to be one I see frequently. I was considering Thayer, until I read some of his beliefs, and how they found their way into his work. Which one would you recommend? From reading your posts, and with your knowledge of Greek, I would greatly respect your opinion. Thank you. 29 | Is God responsible for evil? | Bible general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 62446
Dear John, I thank you for your appreciation. This was my first mission trip, and I can't wait to go back. It is so hard to witness to the people, after all that we white people did to them(some of them falsely claiming to do it in God's name) The women and chidren are somewhat open, but the hearts of the men are hard as rock. Besides, there is very little of the TRUE word being preached out there, mostly the doctrines of men. Jeddito is in the northeast corner of the state. We got to go see Window Rock(the capitol of the Navajo nation), as well as Canyon de Chelly(pronounced de-SHAY). Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you, the LORD has been keeping me busy for this past week. And with the work He has me doing, I hope He keeps me busy like this for a long time. Amen. "...but I'd be leery of Benny Hinn and company." I would totally agree with that, Norrie. I wouldn't trust Benny Hinn further than I could throw him. For example, he has said before that there are NINE in the Godhead, saying that there are three in God, three in Jesus, and three in the Holy Ghost. Of course, when questioned about this later, Hinn claimed that he never said it. That's just one example. Some people claim to have been healed by Hinn, and even if that is true, that doesn't validate his claim to be a man of God. After all, Revelations says the false prophet of Antichrist will perform signs and wonders--"And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live."(Rev.13:14) 2nd Samuel 22:29 |

31 | Can I request for cassettes from tithes | OT general | 2ndSamuel22 | 48441
Greetings, inmyheart! First of all, let me just say that I am NOT implying that Benny Hinn is the Antichrist, or even the false prophet. And as far as his faith, and love of God, I will not question those, for it is not my place(Mat.7:1-2). And yes, ONLY God heals, on His time. Nobody gets slapped on the head and jumps up out of a wheelchair. But through faith and prayer, He will heal. That said, I will make this point: Some people think as long as the Gospel is heard, that is enough, no matter how it is presented. Mostly, they base this thought on Philippians 1:18--"What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed; and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice,". What Paul talks about here, in a nutshell, is those who preach for the money. So long as the TRUTH is being preached, we need not look to the person's motives. We need to remember, however, what he says, about those who pervert the Word, in Romans 16:18--"For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting." In other words, teaching false doctrine(such as baptism for the dead[see I Cor15:29]). Now, the point in preaching is not only to speak the word of God, but to teach those listening what it means, as it says in Ephesians 4:12--"for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;". If a pastor sends his people out without properly equipping them, then when they are questioned on what they believe(I Peter 3:15), and they do not have the true knowledge of the Word, then the Body suffers. I know this may be a bit long-winded, but I wanted to make my point as thoroughly as possible. And neither do I wish to cause dissension, remembering that our salvation lies not in doctrine, but in Grace, and Faith. May God bless you and keep you. 2nd Samuel 22:3-4 |

33 | Is denominatalism a sin? | NT general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52051
At the risk of sounding like I condone denominationalism, divisions were around even before Paul. They existed even in the days Jesus bodily walked the Earth: Mark 9:38 John said to Him, "Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us." Mark 9:39 But Jesus said, "Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me. Mark 9:40 "For he who is not against us is for us. Mark 9:41 "For whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because of your name as followers of Christ, truly I say to you, he will not lose his reward..."(NASB) In my humble opinion, the key verse is 9:40--"For he who is not against us is for us." We are human. we will not always agree with each other. Jesus understood this, and (gently)rebuked John from forbidding those who did not follow the Apostles. May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Greetings Hank!! I thank you for your well-wishes for my upcoming trip. Only 36 more days! Can you tell I'm excited?..:) I must say, that in the short time I've been coming to this forum, I have felt my(feeble human) wisdom grow a little at a time. My thanks to you, Morant61, Searcher, mommapbs, and others for sharing your wisdom, that I may glean from it. And to Raven and Grace and Truth for providing a much-needed foil. We can't agree with everybody, right?..:) May the Grace of Our Lord be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

35 | Extra-Biblical source for understanding? | NT general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53231
Dear Steve, This phrase is found in the Book of the Judges, 13:5, refering to Samson. The OT and NT words translate differently, the OT saying "Nazarite", the NT says "Nazarene". They both have the same meaning, "consecrated, seperated". I have a feeling (and maybe one of the language experts could correct me) that it is the same as "Isaiah"(OT) and "Esaias(NT)", or "Elijah"(OT) and "Elias"(NT). Another reference is in Isaiah 53:3, He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him." This refers to Nazareth, an area despised by most of Israel, and why so many could not believe that the Messiah would come from such an area. He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

36 | dead bury the dead? | NT general Archive 1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 53232
Dear Ed, I would have to agree with Simchat in this regard: A good concordance(preferably a Strong's) is vital to our understanding of the Bible. I say this for this reason: I prefer the KJV(Although I do not try to force that view on others. And I do like the NASB), and had a hard time understanding this verse: Luke 14:26--"If any [man] come to me, and HATE not his father, and mother,...cannot be my disciple." Now, the word "hate" here does not mean, well, "hate". It means "love less". In other word, "If one does not LOVE his family LESS than he loves Me, cannot be my disciple." It is the difference between the 'logos'(printed) word, and the 'rhema'(meaning) word. He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

Dear Sctt, Not to argue a point, but, when I've read that when Abram told Pharaoh that Sarai was his "sister"(even though she was his wife), he was not exactly lying. I have read that Sarai was actually his half-sister. And God used Abram(Abraham) as the progenitor of His people. Again, not arguing. |

38 | Did God created people before Adam | Gen 1:1 | 2ndSamuel22 | 48187
Greetings fellow believers!! I once heard a fellow by the name of Kent Hovind describe this subject thusly: God did create the animals first, then Adam, in chapter one. In chapter two, when God commanded Adam to give a name to all the animals, He created one of each in Adam's presence. He did this for this reason: If I show you a building and say,"I made that" you MIGHT believe me. But, if I build that building before your eyes, you WOULD believe me. Thus, God showed Adam His power. 2nd Samuel 22 |

Greetings, Berean!! Interesting questions..:) Concerning Genesis 2:19, the verse starts out, "Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them;...". So yes, I believe He formed them from the ground in front of Adam. As far as the fish, maybe He had each one do a flip out of the water, and hung them in midair. Just a thought. May God bless you and keep you 2nd Samuel 22:3-4 |

Dear Hank, I believe Paul summed this up in Galatians 5:20--"Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, WITCHCRAFT, hatred,..." The word "witchcraft" comes from the Greek, "pharmakeia", and according to Vine's-- "(Eng., "pharmacy," etc.) primarily signified "the use of medicine, drugs, spells;" then, "poisoning;" then, "sorcery," Gal 5:20, RV, "sorcery" (AV, "witchcraft"), mentioned as one of "the works of the flesh." See also Rev 9:21; 18:23. In the Sept., Exd 7:11,22; 8:7,18; Isa 47:9,12. In "sorcery," the use of drugs, whether simple or potent, was generally accompanied by incantations and appeals to occult powers, with the provision of various charms, amulets, etc., professedly designed to keep the applicant or patient from the attention and power of demons, but actually to impress the applicant with the mysterious resources and powers of the sorcerer."
