Dear frii, In addition to brothers Doc and Lionheart's fine comments, may I suggest you the book "Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis. Don't forget to pray. Ask God to light up your heart and mind. Matt 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Matt 7:8 "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Shalom Azure |

Dear cpbradt, Please accept my sincere apology for my wrong judgment on you. It is me (not Quvmoth) who are in doubt of your legitimate age on the forum. Brother Hank has explained why we have a certain concern on helping students to do their homework assignment. So, thank you very much for your explanation about your situation. Please do understand that we don't mean to be ungracious to the need of people. Please stay around and we might try our best to help. May God bless you abundantly in your learning of His holy Word. 46 | Why did Jesus not want the evil spirits | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 204975
Dear SBG, Welcome to the forum. In addition Tamara's reply (204969) and an old post (11462)of our brother Hank's, I would like to add my 2 cents here: As the demons were well aware of in Matt 8:29, they had nothing to do with each other except that when the time comes, Jesus punish them to their fate. So, what is the point for getting testimony and witnesses from the cursed ones - demons? Instead, who are to witness Christ? Read Matthew 3:17, John 10:24-26, John 8:17-18, John 15:26-27. My conclusion is that our witness must be acceptable to Christ. That's why we should be mindful to false teachers. Shalom Azure |

47 | If a person hurts you and ask forgivenes | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 205244
Dear Katie, Matthew 6:14-15 we are told to forgive without condition. Yes, it is hard, really really hard. That's why it is in the Lord's prayer that we have to prayerfully ask God to help us. However, please be mindful that you won't fall into the temptation of being self righteous with the act of forgiving. Shouldn't it be thankful to God that she found you helpful in providing her Sunday school teacher books despite her motive could be using you? Read through Roman 12:9-21 and meditate. Not because we are afraid of going to hell to follow the command, but the Holy Spirit works in us that we are obedient to His Word; thus, we may grow and bear fruit for His glory. I have witnessed some very very close relatives of mine hurting each other because of misunderstanding and not forgiving or even false forgiving thus rooted with bitterness. It is indeed extremely heartbreaking to me. Please, when there are still chances for reconciliation, do it, for we are to be peacemaker. Shalom Azure |

53 | Church membership...a requirement? | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 209392
Dear Beingstill, I agree with Brother Tim that you should talk to your pastor how you feel about his comment for clarification. Furthermore, I like what C.S. Lewis said in his Mere Christianity, which I think pretty relevant to your question and concern about church membership. "It is more like a hall out of which doors open into several rooms. If I can bring anyone into that hall I shall have done what I atempted. But it is in the rooms, not in the hall, that there are fires and chairs and meals. The hall is a place to wait in, a place from which to try the various doors, not a place to live in. For that purpose the worst of the rooms (whichever that may be) is, I think, preferable. It is true that some people may find they have to wait in the hall for a considerable time, while others feel certain almost at once which door they must knock at. I do not know why there is this difference, but I am sure God keeps no one waiting unless He sees that it is good for him to wait. When you do get into your room you will find that the long wait has done you some kind of good which you would not have had otherwise. But you must regard it as waiting, not as camping. You must keep on praying for light: and, of course, even in the hall, you must begin trying to obey the rules which are common to the whole house. And above all you must be asking which door is the true one; not which pleases you best by its paint and panelling. In plain language, the question should never be : 'Do I like that kind of service?' but 'Are these doctrines true: Is holiness here? Does my conscience move me towards this? Is my reluctance to knock at this door due to my pride, or my mere taste, or my personal dislike of this particular door-keeper?'" --- C.S. Lewis I would also recommend you the below link for your further study concerning church membership issues. http://marks.9marks.org/Mark6/LessonC/Slide1of2 Shalom Azure |

57 | betrayed by a friend | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 210197
Dear bless--, In echo with brother Jeff's reply, please also read Eph 4:30-32 and meditate on the Lord's prayer especially 'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors...' Matt 6:12. Don't focus on what you have lost or how your friend wrong you, but think about his weakness and loss of integrity. Jesus always has compassion on us. "He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd;..." (Mark 6:34). The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. (Ps 103:8) You may not entrust in him/her anymore, but you are commanded to forgive and to love (Luk 10:27). Be blessed as it is your username and be other's blessing as well. Shalom Azure |

58 | I need blessing | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 210458
Dear zoom, Is your dream in line with God's will for bringing Him glory? Jesus told us to first seek His kingdom and righteousness, for He knows our needs before we ask. Please be thankful to our God for everything (be it good or bad in our own eyes). You are so much blessed already that you have the chance to know our gracious Lord. Perhaps you may first start with Psalm. Ps 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! Ps 34:9 O fear the LORD, you His saints; For to those who fear Him there is no want. Ps 1:1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! Ps 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. Ps 1:3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers. Ps 1:4 The wicked are not so, But they are like chaff which the wind drives away. Ps 1:5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. Ps 1:6 For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the wicked will perish. Col 3:2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. Col 3:3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Shalom Azure |

60 | SEAERCHING FOR THE TRUTH | Bible general Archive 4 | azurelaw | 211006
Dear Robert, Although scriptures do not explicitly say when, by whom and why is hell created, I believe the below citation from C.S. Lewis’ and Tim Keller’s (his echo with the thought of Lewis’) should worth us ponder. “Christianity asserts that every individual human being is going to live for ever, and this must be either true or false. Now there are a good many things which would not be worth bothering about if I were going to live only seventy years, but which I had better bother about very seriously if I am going to live for ever. Perhaps my bad temper or my jealousy are gradually getting worse – so gradually that the increase in seventy years will not be very noticeable. But it might be absolute hell in a million years: in fact, if Christianity is true, Hell is the precisely correct technical term for what it would be. And immortality makes this other difference, which, by the by, has a connection with the difference between totalitarianism and democracy. If individuals live only seventy years, then a state, or a nation, or a civilization, which may last for a thousand years, is more important than an individual. But if Christianity is true, then the individual is not only more important but incomparably more important, for he is ever-lasting and the life of a state or a civilization, compared with his, is only a moment.” --- C.S. Lewis (Mere Christianity) ******* C. S. Lewis's depictions of hell are important for postmodern people. In The Great Divorce, Lewis describes a busload of people from hell who come to the outskirts of heaven. There they are urged to leave behind the sins that have trapped them in hell. The descriptions Lewis makes of people in hell are so striking because we recognize the denial and self-delusion of substance addictions. When addicted to alcohol, we are miserable, but we blame others and pity ourselves; we do not take responsibility for our behavior nor see the roots of our problem. Lewis writes, "Hell … begins with a grumbling mood, and yourself still distinct from it: perhaps even criticizing it…. You can repent and come out of it again. But there may come a day when you can do that no longer. Then there will be no you left to criticize the mood or even enjoy it, but just the grumble itself going on forever like a machine." --- Tim Keller (Preaching Hell in a Tolerant Age - Brimstone for the broad-minded) Source: http://www.dbu.edu/jeanhumphreys/DeathDying/preachinghell.htm ***** Shalom Azure |
