41 | What is a covering? | 1 Cor 11:3 | Aspiring Overseer | 103235
Terry and Angie, Most likely you are referring to the following: 1 Cor 11:1-4 11:1Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ. 2Now I praise you because you remember me in everything, and hold firmly to the traditions, just as I delivered them to you. 3But I want you to understand that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of a woman, and God is the head of Christ. NAS The man is the HEAD of the woman, as Christ is the HEAD of the man. This simply describes the spiritual vertical alignment from God to mankind. Is the man the actual covering? The teaching you have received may need a bit more scrutiny. AO |

42 | The unpardonable sin? | Bible general Archive 2 | Aspiring Overseer | 101907
Momma, Sin is sin. I am not supporting fornication, as you seem to believe. Your example merely asked if it was wrong for a man and a woman to have sexual relations without a legal marriage certificate. Consider when God considers a man and woman married. Would it be when they had relations or when they received a piece of paper. From your example there is no sin. The others are very black and white. If a person refuses to turn from sin they are in rebellion and in default with God. Should you pray for someone who mocks God by continuing to willfully disobey? That is the unpardonable sin. AO |

43 | MARK 16:16: Was it perverted? | Bible general Archive 2 | Aspiring Overseer | 101805
You are on the mark! (No pun intended..) As a side note, Mark 16:9-20 is not contained in the Vatican and Sinaitic manuscripts, however, the vast majority of all other sources confirm the validity of these verses, i.e. the statement of Irenaeus (an early Christian writer about 150 AD) and most manuscripts. Additionally, the concept of Mark 16:16 is supported throughout the NT. AO |

44 | who should speak in tounges? | 1 Cor 14:22 | Aspiring Overseer | 96413
Tongues were one of the miraculous signs that were given to confirm the spoken word was from God. As Christians in the first century received the knowledge of God miraculously, they already understood the master plan of God and were able to judge the spoken and written word by that standard. Pagans could not, so God gave the temporary gift of tongues so that a pagan could hear the word in their own language and, realize that the event was miraculous and must therefore be the truth. Once the perfect came, the miraculous was no longer needed or desired by God. It was then the believer's duty to study the written Word so they would accurately handle the truth and so prove their understanding. AO |

45 | Why so blind? | 1 Cor 13:12 | Aspiring Overseer | 91675
GeorJoy, 1) Satan. Matt 7:15-23 15"Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. 16"You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they? 17"Even so, every good tree bears good fruit; but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18"A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19"Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20"So then, you will know them by their fruits. 21"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. 22"Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?' 23"And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.' NAS Isa 56:11 11And the dogs are greedy, they are not satisfied. And they are shepherds who have no understanding; They have all turned to their own way, Each one to his unjust gain, to the last one. NAS Mark 12:32-33 32And the scribe said to Him, "Right, Teacher, You have truly stated that He is One; and there is no one else besides Him; 33and to love Him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one's neighbor as himself, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices. " NAS Rom 1:31-32 31without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; NAS James 3:13-14 13Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom. 14But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. NAS What about religious fanatics? Prov 18:2 2A fool does not delight in understanding, But only in revealing his own mind. NAS 2) The gospel is hidden to pagans: 2 Cor 4:2-4 3And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, 4in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving, that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 46 | i'm still not getting this | Matt 12:31 | Aspiring Overseer | 91655
Consider this: Someone who sins against God, but repents, is forgiven. In fact, is not all sin against God? If a person sins against the H. S. they are rejecting the teaching, or instructions, from God, and by implication, are practising these deeds. As long as a person continues to reject the word of God, they have no salvation. So the issue is whether the sinner feels remorse to repent or not. If they commit sin with disregard of God's master plan (as provided by the H. S.)then they will be eternally unclean. AO |

47 | What scripture quotes name of "beloved d | John 21:20 | Aspiring Overseer | 91468
George, Is this what you seek? John 21:20-24 20Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them; the one who also had leaned back on His breast at the supper, and said, "Lord, who is the one who betrays You?" 21Peter therefore seeing him said to Jesus, "Lord, and what about this man?" 22Jesus said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!" 23This saying therefore went out among the brethren that that disciple would not die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but only, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?" 24This is the disciple who bears witness of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his witness is true. 50 | Can mankind change God's plan? | Bible general Archive 1 | Aspiring Overseer | 90115
Mike, Say someone works for a company whose "master plan" is to make a profit. That person can either decide to do good work and benefit or do shoddy work and suffer the consequences. Either way the company's master plan has stayed the same. They are still there to make a profit. Additionally, why would this employee, who knows that his company's motives are pure and that his work there supports himself and his family, fail to live up to his end of the employment contract? Is it not within the employee's scope of responsibility to serve his employer as his employer directs? Why does the employee decide to jeopardize his own welfare? Why would God require anything less for His creation? AO |

51 | Having yet not knowing one has | Romans | Aspiring Overseer | 90043
Rom 8:1-11 8:1There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 5For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so; 8and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. 10And if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you. NAS Can a person be in Christ and not know it? Can a person set his mind on the things of the spirit if he does not have the HS? Can a person set his mind on the things of the spirit unless he is in Christ? AO |

52 | Can true Christians lose their faith? | Bible general Archive 1 | Aspiring Overseer | 88574
Yampa, I had to write again, because of the irony found in another posting to you: "Despite the advise that some would offer, place your trust in the word of Christ and lean not to your own understanding (i.e. human wisdom). True reason will confirm the truth of Scripture, not refute it." This quote followed several lines of opinion (i. e. human wisdom)! "As to others who rip verses fom there context so as to support their personal doctrines...If you truly are among the flock of God, you will not follow the voice of the stranger." If this is in reference to my original post, which consisted primarily of verses, is the above writer telling you not to read scripture with understanding, but to follow doctrine that is confusing in the first place? Who actually is proposing the "ripping"? I would laugh if it were not so serious! P. S. I am anxious to read your response to my original post. Keeping praying for guidance! AO |

54 | Accept Jesus? | Acts 24:3 | Aspiring Overseer | 88411
There are several verses which are used to support "accepting Jesus", but the motive is always for furthering the arguement of a "something for nothing" religion. If.. (have you ever thought about how many "if's" exist in scripture regarding salvation?).. If, you wish to get to specifics, see John 14:21. Does this need interpretation? AO |

55 | Are those drawn 2 Christ raised to life? | Rev 13:8 | Aspiring Overseer | 88410
Tim, Doug and any other readers, Belief that God is the one and only God is necessary before anyone will devote energy to listen to the Word. They will not understand that word unless they are sincere in their desire to seek God. When John 6:44 and 6:65 state that the Father draws or grants salvation, it is implied that He does that due to their obedience of faith. Some are not seeking and some seek, but not with understanding. It is only those who seek understanding and demonstrate obedience that the Father draws to Christ. AO |

57 | Can true Christians lose their faith? | Bible general Archive 1 | Aspiring Overseer | 88406
Yampa, Should you "quit being a deep philosophical thinker" or reason with God? Isaiah 1:18 18"Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, Do not give in to those who would encourage you to "go with the flow". Those people will not be present with you at the judgement seat. Here are but a few scriptures that show it is possible to depart from the faith--which is another way of saying "lose your salvation." And these are true departures, not situations where the people were only pretending to be saved. Heb 2:1 2:1For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. NAS Heb 3:12 12Take care, brethren, lest there should be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving heart, in falling away from the living God. NAS 2 Peter 2:20-22 20For if after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "A dog returns to its own vomit," and, "A sow, after washing, returns to wallowing in the mire." NAS James 5:19-20 19My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth, and one turns him back, 20let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death, and will cover a multitude of sins. NAS Heb 10:26-29 26For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, 27but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries. 28Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? NAS Heb 10:32-36 32But remember the former days, when, after being enlightened, you endured a great conflict of sufferings, 33partly, by being made a public spectacle through reproaches and tribulations, and partly by becoming sharers with those who were so treated. 34For you showed sympathy to the prisoners, and accepted joyfully the seizure of your property, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an abiding one. 35Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. NAS Finally, Jude 5-6 5Now I desire to remind you, though you know all things once for all, that the Lord, after saving a people out of the land of Egypt, subsequently destroyed those who did not believe. NAS Beginning with the Nation of Israel, Jude gives example after example of those who had been "saved" by God (in the O.T.), only to ultimately "lose their salvation." This warning he gave to N.T. believers, lest they should wind up in a similar shape. AO |

58 | When or should we avoid unbelievers? | 1 Cor 5:9 | Aspiring Overseer | 71199
Christians are to be in the world, but not of the world. They must associate with the world to fulfill their obligation to share the gospel. Association with Christians who are practicing sin, however, is another matter. God commands them to have no association with them, other than to receive their confession and hold them accountable to their deeds of repentance. In all areas a Christian must be discerning as to their surroundings. While they might find a person who is seeking God in a tavern or strip club, their credibility as a priest of the Most High God would be severely hampered. Thus it is prudent to "just say no" to doing certain things or being certain places. There are plenty of people seeking God in more "wholesome" venues. So the bottom line is to keep associating with those of the world as long as that association will not negatively effect you or your family. Stop association with a Christian who is practicing sin, once they have been urged to stop and they refuse. Make sense? AO |

59 | Which commandments are written on our he | Exodus | Aspiring Overseer | 71180
rferg, I would actually echo most of the already given response with the clarification that our love of God is our obedience to His commandments and our love of our neighbor is our effort to teach others the Word of God. His commandments govern how we worship and, thus, live our lives. One further clarification to what has already been posted, is a newly baptized Christian is given the ability to fully understand the word of God, but they must put in effort (work) to obtain it! God writes His laws upon their mind (heart) by lifting the veil, which previously kept them from fully comprehending His Word by themselves. Note that if a Christian is a "lazy slave", however, and does not put forth the effort to study and teach (love his neighbor), then God will take away the knowledge (and consequently, the reward). The “sealing of the Holy Spirit” is only permanent for those who continue to love God. John 3:36 36"He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." NAS 1 Cor 9:27 27but I buffet my body and make it my slave, lest possibly, after I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified. NAS P. S. Congratulations on your excellent post on the three personalities of God. I use the concept of the “family” frequently, but have never seen it as clearly explained as in your effort! AO |

Martha, Do you have a budget? If not, pencil one out tonight for all the areas which you know require money each month. Compare that figure to your income and hopefully you will have a surplus. If not, you must find ways to reduce your expenses. Do not use your credit cards. If you do not have the item planned for in your budget, do not buy it! There are many ways you can structure your finances to live within your means and be a good steward for God's resources. Until you can sit down with some one, however, think about what causes you to spend money and what you normally purchase. Controlling spending will be the key to solving your problem. AO |
