41 | Christians Demon Plagued? | Mark 16:17 | Tamara Brewington | 205647
Dear Forum members, I have a friend from school who is a minister in a Pentecostal church, I am Baptist always have been always will be. I went to a function at his church tonight to fellow ship with him and his lovely wife. I heard a number of things I have heard before that I wonder if some of you know more about than I do... Here is the deal; the visiting preacher was talking about a situation where a member of his church who had confessed the Lord Jesus and asked for forgiveness of sins was plagued by demons. Here is what she was doing that was the outward sign, she stripped naked to the nothingness of nakedness several times during services while he was preaching very quickly before the ushers could stop her. This man is an arch-bishop of a Pentecostal church, he had interviewed this woman to make sure she was saved as best he could and had baptized her immediately after her profession of faith and repentance the same day she confessed the Lord Jesus. The deacons in his church were highly upset saying how very fast she took all those clothes off, remarking that she never had any undergarments to hinder her haste and saying as how she seemed to be a demon plagued Christian and some said a demon possesed Christian. I am not so stupid or so new as to think that a Christian could actually have the spirit of the devil and the Holy Ghost at the same time. He never said she was possesed, he said she was demon plagued and that the demon had to be cast out of her in the name of Jesus before her sanity returned to her. We know from the Bible that folks who are saved can actually do things by the spirit of Satan, like Peter did and still be saved, which means the spirit of Satan is operating through them, working through them, even though they are sealed by the Holy Ghost. What do you all think of this? Do you see anything here according to what I have said that you could illuminate by the scriptures on? God's Blessings Tam |

42 | Evidenc of Signs in 2008 Valid? | Mark 16:17 | Tamara Brewington | 205649
Dear Forum members, I already know what I think of the Pentecostal belief that speaking in tongues is evidence of the Holy Spirit having entered one and I know all the scriptures to refute that understanding of scriptures. I wonder though how should we understand Mathew verse 17 and 18 - are these signs just to be applied to the first century - the tongues, the casting out of demons, the not being affected by poisons or deadly snakes? Or do you think it is possible that these things could still apply now? Please don't answer with stuff about snake handlers or refutations of crackpot practices in phony bony churches - I am well aware of what types of charlatans are out there, I am well grounded and not in any danger of falling prey to false doctrine. Please try to craft your answer around some scriptures if you can.. God's Day To You, Tamara |

46 | Wisdom as Evangelism? | John 1:1 | Tamara Brewington | 203852
I came across a stituation in which I was evangelising with someone. They are more educated than me by a long shot, two seminaries, one big degree and such. I did not know this person very well and was taking class from them, we went out to the park for class credit. This guy was trying to catch fish by asking passers by if they would like to discuss The Moral Argument, The Cosmological Argument, The Anthroplogical Argument, The Teological Argument and so on. Passers by who were caught would be presented with an argument for that God exists as The Absolute Moral Law Giver, The Uncaused Cause, The Creater of Man in His Image, The Intelliegent Maker of Creation and so on. Then this guy would point out the fatal flaw in the rational of the passer through setting an intellectual trap by showing them how their veiw was hypocritical, lacked rationality or otherwise did not measure up to the logic and wisdom of what he had presented as his argument. This was an Apologetics course and the point was to learn how to apologize for the faith. After pointing out their fatal flaw he would then try to get them to admit God existed, if he could get them to do that, then and only then would he give them the gospel message of Christ's atoning death. He invited me to something called,"spiritual munchies", a get together of believers and nonbelievers to hear a bit of Jesus wisdom from the gospels. The scripture was Mathew 7:1-5. I sat there for two hours while we ate and discussed the elements of the text, like what is a log in your eye and what is a measure of judgment. The unbelievers were never given the gospel message of Christ's atoning death. I confronted this guy and asked why he didn't just give them the message that could save and that it bothered me that we were being unequaly yoked with unbelievers studying scripture that has the power to equip the saved with wisdom, but which does not have the information necessary to save. He said the wisdom of Jesus has the power to draw people salvifically to God and that he was doing pre-evangelism. He said there is a mandate to use wisdom to evagelize. I said the aposltes never used wisdom to evangelize in fact Paul talks a lot about not using wisdom to evangelize because they are seeking wisdom and that Christ and His atonement are our wisdom according to Paul. He accused me of hiding behind the gospel and being unwilling to deal intellectualy with people who can respond to rational, logical wisdom in order to get saved and that my methods of giving people the scriptures and the message of Christ's atonement was running away from the world. I Corinthians 2:1-8, 1:18-31, Colossians 2:2-10. Scripture to support his point if you think it can be validated, opinions please.

48 | Jesus Powers Diminished As A Human? | John 1:14 | Tamara Brewington | 205327
Dear Forum Members, Here is a question for your consideration; Did Jesus diminish His powers as God in order to become fully human, His omnipresence, omnipotence, or omniscience, and therefore, was it the Holy Spirit who was working through His humanity? Or did Jesus merely decide to put His full use of powers aside, in order to become fully human, retaining all His full powers of God and in addition to that receive an anointing of the Holy Spirit in order to fulfill righteousness? See these passages before attempting an answer please - Mathew 3:15, John 1:14, Colossians 1:17, Mathew 24:36, Luke 8:45. Please endeavor to divide scripture to arrive at your answer, as specualtion is fruitless, I say this in love and respect for others and ask the same in return. By His Infinite Grace, Tamara |

51 | Retain or forgive sins? | John 20:22 | Tamara Brewington | 204515
John 20:21-23 What are these verses talking about? Does this mean that the apostles were being given the power by the Holy Spirit to retain or forgive sins like the Catholic priests believe? And if not what does it mean that they were to retain or forgive sins? And how does this gell with the fact that a person can ask Jesus for forgiveness of any sin except the greatest sin? A bunch of questions I know but these verses kinda shook me... God Bless hat lady |

56 | Anybody know of a church in Silverdale? | Acts 2:1 | Tamara Brewington | 204324
Say you guys I need help with something. I have a friend out there in Silverdale Washington who is seeking Christ and needs to go to church to hear the gospel. Now don't get ruffled by what I am about to say y'all. Does anybody know of a church of whatever denomination that does not believe that salvation consists of Jesus plus? I mean Jesus plus baptism, or good works, or lawkeeping, or constant scripture study to keep the Holy Spirit, or speaking in tongues as evidence of salvation and so on as a second requirment to get saved... I looked on the web, but maybe someone from Washington State, my former home knows of a church like this whichever denomination? Thanks the Hat Lady |

57 | Love One Another And Be Bereans. | Acts 17:10 | Tamara Brewington | 205290
Dear Forum Members, Acts 17:10-12 The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessolonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. Therefore many of them believed, along with a number of prominent Greek women and men. I encourage you my brethren to continue to be Bereans and search the scriptures whether what you have heard be so. And encourage one another as the day grows long, for the evil one prowleth around seeking to destroy even the elect if it were possible. Love one another even as yourselves having this in mind, not to think of one's self more highly than you ought less you fall and disgrace the name of Christ. And receive the brethren with grace and eagerness knowing you were bought with a price in love accepting one another for the edification of the body. Each one has received a gift, having been sealed into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit, receive one another knowing that the hand needs the foot and that none can say I have no need of you. May the grace of God be with every one here and may we learn what is the truth together as one, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen, Tamara |

59 | Eternal Secruity? | Rom 8:33 | Tamara Brewington | 204506
I searched first and only found one referrence and it didn't answer my question. If you know of a thread I won't mind a thread or two. I am asking about eternal security not because I don't believe in it but because I have in-laws with whom I am discussing it and I am trying to wade through their various arguments. The major passages they are using are Galatians 5:4 and Hebrews 6:4-8. The major passages I am using are John 6:37-39 and Romans 8:33-39. Help me if you can understand what to do with the Galatians and Herews verses? Thank you. hat lady |
