4 | Concept of a 'just war' Biblical? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 203859
What is the truth about the "just war" concept? Is there such a thing as a "just war". Luther and Calvin thought there was based on a need to remove tryanical kings in order to relieve the people of bodily harm. Some Reformed theologians think so, they base their concept on Hebrews 11:32-34 because these saints who had faith were commended for fighting on behalf of Israel and on a father protecting his family in times of war, they call this the morality of war. Scriptures and opinions please.
5 | Did I miss something in the text? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 203863
I came across a situation where I had to write a paper on Christ in the OT. One of the scriptures under inspection for the general reading was Genesis 11:1-8 the story of the tower of Babel (don't ask me how this had to with Christ in the OT, cause I honestly don't know). The professor gave the verses but wrote his own version of the story with the people being oppressed by the rulers of Babel to build the tower and having many languages and then a commond language, intsead of one common langauge in all the earth. He did have God confuse the one language at the end of his version. There were other things in the paper. I wrote citing the actual verses in full that there was no oppression, the people as one got together and built the tower and there was one common language in all the earth. I got and A on the paper, but he wrote and I quote,"I took liberty to do some deducing, but the Bible doesn't contradict it". Did I miss something in the text?
6 | Gift of Wisdom and gift of Knowledge? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 203931
What is the Spirit of Wisdom and is it a gift? And what is the gift of knowledge? I Corinthians 12:8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit. Are we to think that the word of wisdom is the gift of prophecy in the list in 12:28 and are we to think that the word of knowledge is also the gift of prophecy? Agape, Tamara

8 | Knowing gay minister unequally yoked? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 203997
Ok now for something completely different. The kooky professor has a good friend who is a gay minster on the pulpit and has been having a discussion with this man about whether or not being gay and Christian(forget even the minister part) is Christian or wrong. This has been going on for three years and this professor didn't cut him off in the hopes of turning him around(go figure...) and has not taken it to the church either. He has been going back and forth with this guy via email and they are discussing doing a book together along the lines of Evangelicals and Catholics Together as if there is a real discussion here about whether it is something that can be overcome as Christians who have differing views about how to be Christians... I asked him if he would be concerned about being unequally yoked with this man in doing this book... His reply shocked the mess out of me, He said, oh that's not being unequally yoked, being unequally yoked is when we go out into the market place and work with unbelievers... HUNH? Opinions please scriputres or no ok with me, we all know some that apply. I won't ever be taking any of his classes after I am done this summer... God bless, Tamara
9 | How do these accounts reconcile? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 204179
This is a repost because I am looking for a complete answer , I received one partial answer, thank you, you know who you are. I am also reposting this because I received complaints that my posts were not concise and would like to comply and again receive a complete answer, if there is one. There is no bottom line to this question it is not simple. 1)On context; The gospels have conflicting accounts of events at the tomb of Jesus on the resurrection day. 2)On context; Angels, Mathew has one angel on a sitting on a stone outside the tomb, Mark has one angel sitting to the right in the tomb, Luke and John have two angels inside the tomb. 3)On context; Mary sees Jesus first at the tomb and then goes and tells the disciples immediately in John, Mary sees Jesus first after leaving the tomb in Mark, The disciples see Jesus first at the place where they were away from the tomb in Mathew, the two on the road to Emmaus are the first to see Jesus in Luke. 4)On context; Mary goes alone in John, Mary goes with the other Mary in Mathew, Mary goes with three women in Mark, Mary goes with a group of women more than three in Luke. 5)Question; can you reconcile all four gospel accounts if you can please? |

10 | Please HelpUnderstanding Sola Scriptura? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 205815
Dear Forum members, I understand this much about Sola Scriptura - that the Bible is the sole authoritative word of God. Please correct me if this is a wrong understanding and what if any tenets are listed in this understanding? I did go to Cristian.org and read the article but wonder if there is such a list which I am describing of tenets. Thanks everyone for putting up with my ignorance about some things some times...Tam |

11 | Creeds and Confessions Needful? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 205810
Dear Forum members, Could someone elaborate for me why some Baptist churches are not inculcated with the various protestant confessions of faith and some are? What would you say about a Baptist church that is not inculcated with these confessions, but goes by Sola Scriptura alone? Not saying the two must be or are mutually exclusive to one another, I can see that they must have been built in some sense on the concept of Sola Scriptura... I am truly ingnorant of these things and really never, ever heard of Sola Scriptura before coming in here, it is not taught at my school (perhaps it is in the church history classess I don't know) and I never heard of it before in my small Baptist church or in the much, much bigger one where my school is affiliated at when I went to hear preaching there. The only thing I remember my pastor saying about anything in this area is that there are a whole lot of things out there that are considered valid creeds and practices, and I as your pastor am not saying they are not valid, but the only thing I will be teaching you here is a literal interpretation of the Bible because the scriptures are the final authority you don't need to learn what I say or what men say, my job is to teach you the Bible and only the Bible. God Bless everyone, Tamara |

13 | Confirmation of Humbledygraces Warning | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 205957
Heads up you guys, Glen La Bella tagged me with a new twist; he asked if I was open minded... When I repplied that I was now identifying him as a well known JW and would he like to study with me, he sent me another email begging off dealing with my offer to study his Bible with him in the spirit of exegesis to see exactly what the Greek and Hebrew are saying about his texts, saying that he read my posts and notes and begged off that venture all of a sudden. Everyone keep giving a reason for the hope that is in you. Sola Scriptura... God's Day, Tamara |

14 | When we see God will talking change us? | NT general | Tamara Brewington | 204007
Ok I got a lot of questions because of the kooky professor... He says when we see God we will become like him because we understand Him. I thought when we see God we will become like Him because His glory will transform us, but He said no, we are gonna have a little talk and get changed... Laughing again? I tried not to, this was in class... Opinions and scriptures please. God Bless, Tamara

17 | Us and Our not found in Hebrew language? | Gen 1:21 | Tamara Brewington | 203786
Hey I have to prepare to do Bible Study tomorrow morning in case the teacher is ansent. Here is the question about Genesis... I was doing a word study and came across a puzzle perhaps someone deeper that me can solve this puzzle; Gensis chapter one, verse 1:26 in Hebrew it does not say the words Us or Our when talking about creating man as our English tranlations do... Does anybody know who added the Us and Our, was it the Septuagint or what and why did they add it because without it actualy reads in straight Hebrew; "and He is saying Elohim make mankind in image as likenss and they shall over the flyer of the heavens and in beast and in all the earth and in every moving the one moving on land"?
18 | Thank you Lionheart but where is it? | Gen 1:21 | Tamara Brewington | 203788
Yeah I hear you Lionheart already did that, that part was clear what is not clear is that the word Our and Us is not really there in your Strong's or in any other translation of the actual Hebrew, the concept is not the problem that the word was added by somebody and why is the problem. I am using the Esword and the Scriptureanalayzer4all and those words Our and Us are not actually there in Hebrew! Its fine to point everyone to that Elohim means gods plural, the triune God, but that does not adequately explain the Us and Our not realy being in the true text.
19 | Doc help me, textual criticism website? | Gen 1:21 | Tamara Brewington | 203799
Thanks Doc, I have Stuart and Fee's How to Study the Bible for all its Worth and Stuart and Fee's Studying the Bible Book by Book and all of Norman D. Geilser's Systematic Theology and Wayene Grudem's Stematic Theology. I understand the principles of exegesis and hermeneutics and critical and literary criticism and am applying them all. So tell me, my dear brother in Chirst, I think you are probably deeper than me(pretty sure about that part), I just went into where you sent me with that link, problem that again is an English transliteration of Hebrew. Question Doc, realy seriously, are you certain that they didn't also add something that the literal translation, which looks and sounds choppy, did not have to make it readable, and where would I go on the web for some serious textual criticism on this? Beyond intrigued cause you might atcualy know where to go! |
