41 | Jehonadab, What Think Ye of Christ? | John 14:7 | Hank | 102294
Jehonadab, in Post #100809 I asked you a question which you have not answered. Perhaps you didn't see it. The question had to do with your belief about Christ. Do you acknowledge the full deity of Christ? Do you believe that Christ is very God, or do you believe He is a god, as John 1:1 in the New World Translation says? Do you believe that Christ is the sole means of salvation, that no one comes to the Father but by His Son, Jesus Christ? --Hank
42 | Jehonadab, Why C.E. and B.C.E.? | 1 John 2:2 | Hank | 100619
Jehonadab - You did not answer the question! I didn't ask you what the terms "C.E." and "B.C.E." meant. I KNOW what they mean and said so in my question. The question was, and still is, Why do you use "C.E." instead of "A.D." and "B.C.E." instead of "B.C."? Now please answer the question. Why do YOU USE the secular designations C.E. (Common Era) instead of A.D. (Latin, Anno Domini: in the year of the Lord)) and B.C.E. (Before the Common Era) instead of B.C. (Before Christ)? I am repeating the question in a deliberate effort to remove all doubt about what the question is and ask once again that you answer it if you please. --Hank

52 | But I Ain't No Roman! | NT general Archive 1 | Hank | 98285
Radioman - Book of Romans? Duh, what's that? Besides, what does them Romans have to do with my religion? I ain't no Roman. My relevations comes to me in dreams and from reading science fiction. What's the since in paying any attention to what church folks and them egg-headed Theolowjuns says anyhow? They don't know nothing. Best thing is to pick out a verse in the Wholly Bibel and stick with it. Don't worry about the rest of the Bibel. You ain't gonna understand it nohow. James 2:17 is about the only verse in the Bibel I pay any attention to. That grace and faith stuff don't bother me none. It don't do much good to read that stuff that was wrote 2,000 years ago. Besides some of the Apostles that the Epistles wrote has done got lost. God don't seem able to keep up with His books somehow, and everbody knows it's high time He updated a lot of that old stuff. Like I say, they ain't no use sweating the small stuff like grace and faith and such like. All a body needs to do is read as much science fiction as he can get his hands on and pick out a verse of the Bibel and stick with it. Just be a good ole boy and maybe git somebody to dunk you in a puddle of water to wash them sins away, and you'll turn out OK. I shore have. --Hank ..... P.S. And they's one more thing: Don't believe a word I've written in this post! And the same can be said for many other posts by many other users with which this poor old forum has been burdened in the last two and a half years. --HH

55 | E Pluribus Unum: Strength in Numbers? | NT general Archive 1 | Hank | 91771
Previous posts on the subject of Bible translations seem to point to a censensus that a translation of the Scriptures carried out by a large group of qualiifed translators is preferable to the tranlsation of one person. The reasons for this preference are fairly obvious and have been stated before, so I won't attempt to recap them here. My question to you is this: If group translation is preferable to individual translation, why wouldn't annotations in a study Bible made by a group of Bible scholars be preferable to annotations made by an individual? Examples of study Bibles that represent joint effort by a group would include NASB (and NIV) Study Bibles, the King James Study Bible and the Believer's Study Bible. Individual effort would include Ryrie, MacArthur and Dake. What are your thoughts? --Hank

57 | Ask for a cold, and ye shall receive it? | Matt 16:6 | Hank | 90749
Pastor Floyd: In re: your post # 90632 -- Where does the Bible say anything about anyone "releasing" his faith? And who in his right mind would ever ask for the common cold? Have you? Do you know anyone who has? Surely you're aware that what you're promoting about health and healing is nothing but a charismatic knock-off of Christian Science and the Peale-Schuler version of "positive thinking," which leaders of your stripe call "positive confession." Both are characterized by a curious combination of humanism on the one hand and "commanding" God to pay His "debts" to fallen man on the other -- an impossible combination than which no other doctrine contrived by the mind of man is more unscriptural. --Hank

60 | How free are "Free Thinkers"? | Rom 6:16 | Hank | 84834
Romans 6:16-18: "Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which you were delivered. And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness." Question: From a biblical perspective, are so-called "free thinkers" truly free? --Hank
