3641 | what was the origine of sunday worship? | NT general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 28302
I am not sure if I undestand you correctly. Are you agreeing with my original post in which I took the position that Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath and He transferred his power to bind and loose to the apostles which applies also to the shifting of the day of worship to Sunday? I thought you were taking the position that the change was an unbiblical corruption of God's law indicating the corruption of the early Church. Perhaps I misunderstood. |

3642 | WHO WROTE THE GOSPLES? THE APOSLES? | NT general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 28300
djconklin We are in agreement. The argument for the early dating of Matthew, pre 70 A.D. and the destruction of the Temple, also supports the tradition of the ordering of the Gospels with Matthew before Mark, which goes against the popular opinion of many biblical scholars of the past 100 years who have been influenced by the thought of historical criticism method which has obvious weaknesses in some areas that are now being made very clear. 3643 | Can all be saved? | 1 Cor 5:5 | Emmaus | 28297
Sandre, I believe that we are, as Christians, to hope that all men be saved, but we cannot know in this life with certainty if all men will be saved, which is why we are to leave judgement on salvation, not necessarily current behavior, to God. Emmaus |

3644 | what was the origine of sunday worship? | NT general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 28291
djconklin, 1 Tim 3:15. Submitting to the judgement of the Church as a whole is what Church authority derived from Jesus, including changing the day of worship, is about. But I realize my opinion on authority and Tradition is a minority opinion on the forum, just as yours appears to be on Sabbath worship, and we are in disagreement on this matter. Emmaus |

I couldn't agree more about the sound historical basis of Tradition in this case and mnay others.
3646 | Didn't the Babylonians pay attention? | Jer 25:12 | Emmaus | 28196
You would have thought the Jews of Jesus' day would have been ready for Him. But most were not and then the Temple was destroyed again.
3647 | Why did God require only these things? | Jer 22:3 | Emmaus | 28195
It's just my opinion at this point, but I suspect the worshipping ofidols may preclude doing true justice, which requires focus on thew true God. And that is why God allowed them to be defeated and carried off into exile or left to rot like the basket of bad figs. |

3648 | WHO WROTE THE GOSPLES? THE APOSLES? | NT general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 28181
This is one area where every Chritian relies on Church tradition, since the authorship of the the Gospels is not explicit in Scripture.
3649 | Salvation: Instantaneous, progressive? | Ps 68:19 | Emmaus | 28156
Charis, Hank is on the right track. A lot depends on how you define salvation and if you separate justification and sanctification and if you include the resurrection of the body as the final fulfillment of salvation. I think that is as close to this particular Tar Baby I want to come. Back to the briar patch. |

3650 | Is "pleading the blood" scriptural? | Bible general Archive 1 | Emmaus | 28153
Brianna, I ran across this old "pleading the blood" thread. I quess it depends on what they mean by "pleading the blood." But if it is prayer to God asking to be save by the blood of Jesu it would seem to be based on scriptural concepts if not mentioned in those words. See Hebrews 9:12, and Hebrews 12:24-25. One prayer which is said in my Church before receiving Holy Communion is, "May the body and blood of Christ bring us to life everlasting." If that isn't pleading the blood, I don't know what is. And I am not Pentecostal in denomination. |

3651 | Didn't the Babylonians pay attention? | Jer 25:12 | Emmaus | 28145
Regarding seventy years see 2 Chronicles 36:21 "Until the land has retrieved its lost sabbaths, during all the time it lays waste it shall have rest while the seventy years are fulfilled."
3652 | Didn't the Babylonians pay attention? | Jer 25:12 | Emmaus | 28143
The people of Judah tied to kill Jerimiah for his prophecy.. It was not likely he would be any better received by the Babylonians for what he had to say about them. And that is assuming that they were even interested in the writings of a prophet of Judah. Ezra 1:5 Then the heads of fathers' households of Judah and Benjamin and the priests and the Levites arose, even everyone whose spirit God had stirred to go up and rebuild the house of the LORD which is in Jerusalem. Aside from gross idolatry, the seventy years of exile were related to the abuse of the sabbath in Judah as I recall. Ezek 13 |

3653 | Why did God require only these things? | Jer 22:3 | Emmaus | 28140
Jeremiah 22:16 "He pled the cause of the afflicted and needy; Then it was well. Is not that what it means to know Me?" Declares the LORD. Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God? |

3654 | How about the other kind of tongues? | James 3:5 | Emmaus | 28131
How about the other kind of tongues? Does anyone else here ever pray for the gift of ears or the gift of silence? James 3 may descibes the source of more problems in most peoples lives, including my own, than almost any other common fault. As one man said: "God gave you two ears and one tongue. So you should listen twice as much as you speak." We know that "faith comes by hearing", not by talking. On the other hand we don't want the forum to grind to a halt. :-) |

3655 | When will I speak/pray in tongues? | Acts 2:6 | Emmaus | 28042
Discipled, Not everyone has the same gifts. Why not follow St Pauls' advice and pray for "a more excellent way " and gift. 1 Corinthians 12:27-13:13. Emmaus |

3657 | Song of Praise - in Daniel? | Dan 3:24 | Emmaus | 28030
Merry Christmas Searcher! You may be correct. But I suspect Motherturtlewood may have seen Dan 2:19 passage in her bible already, but did not recognize it as the passage she ws looking for if she had prevously seen the Song of Praise to which I referred her. It is a well known and loved passage in some circles. It is a kind of Canticle of Creation glorifying God the Creator. Nothing doctrinally controversial. You might want to check it out. If nothing else it is a beautiful prayer. Emmaus |

3660 | Song of Praise - in Daniel? | Dan 3:24 | Emmaus | 28023
You are probably looking for the Song of the Three Men in the Fiery Furnance which is found in Daniel in Catholic versions of the bible at Daniel 3:24-90. That passage was in the Greek Septuagint translation of Greek speaking Jews of the diaspora and used by early Christians, but was left out of the Protestant canon and the Jewish canon of Scripture. Here is a link for you to Daniel 3 of the New American Bible which has the passage for which you are looking. It is a beautiful passage. In Catholic bibles the verse you quoted is Daniel 3:91 immediately after the Song of Praise. Merry Christmas! Emmaus |
