341 | But Satan is our enemy, so how? | Matthew | meusing | 39018
Our focus is to be on God, and to show His love to others. Satan is God's enemy and he will do anything He can do to take our focus off of God. If our enemies are out of Satan's power, they will no longer be our enemies. Eph 6:10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides]. 11 Put on God's whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil. 12 For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere. 13 Therefore put on God's complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place]. 14 Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God, 15 And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace. [Isa. 52:7.] 16 Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one]. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God. 18 Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God's consecrated people). |

342 | sunday the day of sun worship | Mark 2:28 | meusing | 39016
So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath. It is the Christian's priviledge to enjoy the first day of the week. How can we rejoice and worship on a day when the Lord of the Sabbath was in the tomb? Would you deny us worshiping the Lord of the Sabbath on the day which He defeated death, sin and the grave and DEMAND that we worship on a day that He was in the grave? |

343 | Christ never did away with the sabbath | Matt 12:8 | meusing | 39001
For the Son of Man is Lord [even] of the Sabbath. "... from the fall to the incarnation God was working; from the incarnation to the cross, God the Son was working; and from Pentecost until now, the Holy Ghost has been working. Assuredly, Christ had no Sabbath when He was upon this earth. true he finished His work - blessedly, gloriously finished it - but where did He spend the Sabbath day? IN THE TOMB! Yes, the Lord Christ - God manifest in the flesh, the Lord of the Sabbath, the Maker and sustainer of heavean and earth - spent the seventh day in the tomb. Has this no voice for us? Does it convey no teaching? Could the Son of God lie in the grave on the seventh day if that day were to be spent in rest and peace, and in the full sense that nothing remained to be done? Impossible! We want no further proof of the impossibility of celebrating a Sabbath than that which is afforded at the grave of Jesus. We may stand beside that grave amazed to find it occupied by such a one on the seventh day; but oh! the reason is obvious. Man is a fallen, ruined, guilty creature. His long career of guilt has ended in crucifying the Lord of glory; and not only crucifying Him but placing a great stone at the mouth of the tomb, to prevent, if possible, His leaving it. And what was man doing while the Son of God was in the grave? HE WAS OBSERVING THE SABBATH DAY! What a thought! Christ in His grave to repair a broken Sabbath, and man attempting to keep the Sabbath as though ie were not broken at all! It was MAN's Sabbath, and not God's. It was a Sabbath without Christ - an empty, powerless, worthless , because Christless and Godless, form." CHM "Notes on the Pentateuch" p.24 You may celebrate a Christless Sabbath if you want to rejoice over what man did to Christ, I celebrate the truimph of God over death, sin and the grave on the first day of the week. |

344 | Where is the phrase defined? | NT general Archive 1 | meusing | 38790
APOLLUMI only signifies 'destroy utterly' when used in the ACTIVE VOICE. It is not used so in this verse but in the MIDDLE VOICE which always in Scripture refers to the loss of eternal life. See John 3:16 shows the same contrast between to perish verses to have eternal life. see also John 10:28 |

345 | "Sons" of perdition? | NT general Archive 1 | meusing | 38776
There is no mention of sentence. As A. T. Robertson said "Note play on apwleto, perished (second aorist middle indicative of apollumi). It means the son marked by final loss, not annihilation, but meeting one's destiny (Acts 2:25)" and he should know what he is talking about. in Matthew 7:13 Jesus said "for wide is the gate and spacious and broad is the way that leads away to destruction[perdition], and many are those who are entering through it." I also found this : "The word rendered "perdition" in many translations is a noun made from the same stem as the verb translated 'was lost' in TEV and most other translations. This word isfrequently used in the New Testament of the final fate of those who are without God (Matt 7.13; Acts 8.20; Rom 9.22' Phil 1.28; 3.19; 2 Peter 2.1; 3.7; Rev 17.8,11). the phase "son of (literally 'man of') perdition" means "one who is going to be lost (eternally)." the same expression appears in 2 Thessalonians 2.3 and is rendered 'The...One...who is destined to hell in TEV. In English the form'lost' fits very well into this type of context, but in other languages a literal rendering may be misleading, since it might suggest that in some way or other Jesus had lost sight of Judas. A more appropriate equivalent in some languages is 'has gone astray' or has suffered ruin.' accordingly, the phrase 'the man who was bound to be lost' may be rendered 'the man who would certainly go astray' or 'the man for whom there was nothing else but to suffer ruin.'" A Translator's Handbook on the Gospel of John by Barclay M. Newman and Eugene Nida United Bible Societies page 537 There is nothing here about judgement, but destination. Without Christ we are all destined to perdition. |

Love Foundation, you asked "Please share with me who else the son of perdition could refer to, since you say there are a great many individuals who this could refer to? This is new to me, I have only seen one being sentenced(judged), to eternally perish within the whole context of Scripture, please show me who else is judged to eternal spiritual death besides satan, within Scripture. " let us look at the verses in which the greek word that is translated as 'perdition' is used. Mt 7:13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: destruction is the same word translated as perdition many there be which go there Joh 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. Ro 9:22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: Php 1:28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. Php 3:19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) destruction is the same word translated as perdition (of many) 2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 1Ti 6:9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. Heb 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. 2Pe 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2Pe 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 2Pe 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. damnation is the same word translated as perdition 2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 2Pe 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. Re 17:8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. Re 17:11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. |

I do not read Greek or Aramaic. W. E. Vine was a brother in Christ who did and brought together the meanings of the Greek words so that we who speak English can better understand what the Bible is speaking about. A. T. Robertson, another brother in Christ who does understand Greek wrote ... But the son of perdition (ei mh o uioß thß apwleiaß). The very phrase for antichrist (2 Thessalonians 2:3). Note play on apwleto, perished (second aorist middle indicative of apollumi). It means the son marked by final loss, not annihilation, but meeting one's destiny (Acts 2:25). A sad and terrible exception (Mark 14:21). so both see perdition as speaking of the destiny of the one spoken about. let us make sure that is not our destiny John 20:31 Amplified But these are written (recorded) in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ (the Anointed One), the Son of God, and that through believing and cleaving to and trusting and relying upon Him you may have life through (in) His name [through Who He is]. I like the devotional that C. H. Mackintosh gives in his Notes of the Pentateuch about the sons of the day and the sons of night . . . p.18 "And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night." Here we have the two great symbols so largely employed throughout the Word. The presence of light makes the day; the absence thereof makes the night. Thus it is in the history of souls. There are "the sons of light" and "the sons of darkness." This is a most marked and solemm distinction. All upon whom the light of Life has shone—all who have been effectually visited by "the dayspring from on high"--all who have received the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ all such, whoever and wherever they may be, belong to the first class, are "the sons of light, and the sons of the day." [p.19] On the other hand, all who are still in nature's darkness, nature's blindness, nature's unbelief all who have not yet received into their hearts, by faith, the cheering beams of the Sun of Righteousness,—all such are still wrapped in the shades of spiritual night, are "the sons of darkness," "the sons of the night." Reader, pause and ask yourself, in the presence of the Searcher of hearts, to which of these two classes do you, at this moment, belong. That you belong to either the one or the other is beyond all question. You may be poor, despised, unlettered; but if, through grace, there is a link connecting you with the Son of God—"the light of the world," then you are, in very deed, a son of the day, and destined, ere long, to shine in that celestial sphere, that region of glory, of which "the slain Lamb" will be the central sun forever This is not your own doing. It is the result of the counsel and operation of God Himsclf, who has given you light and life, joy and peace, in Jesus and His accomplished sacrifice. But if you are a total stranger to the hallowed action and influence of divine light, if your eyes have not been opened to behold any beauty in the Son of God, then, though you had all the learning of a Newton, though you were enriched with all the treasures of human philosophy, though you had drunk in with avidity all the streams of human science, though your name were adorned with all the learned titles which the schools and universities of this world could bestow, yet are you 'a son of the night," "a son of darkness"; and, if you die in your present condition, you will be involved in the blackness and horror of an eternal night. Do not, therefore, read another page until you have fully satisfied yourself as to whether you belong to the "day" or the "night." (Notes on the Pentateuch) p.18,19 |

It is interesting that W. E. Vine sees the phrase "sons of perdition" as : (b) of persons, signifying their spiritual and eternal perdition, Mat 7:13; John 17:12; 2Th 2:3, where "son of perdition" signifies the proper destiny of the person mentioned; metaphorically of men persistent in evil, Rom 9:22, where "fitted" is in the Middle Voice, indicating that the vessels of wrath fitted themselves for "destruction;" of the adversaries of the Lord's people, Phl 1:28 ("perdition"); of professing Christians, really enemies of the cross of Christ, Phl 3:19 (RV, "perdition"); of those who are subjects of foolish and hurtful lusts, 1Ti 6:9 'An Expository dictionary of New Testament Words' pages 303,304 |

351 | Biblical revelations in Genesis 3? | Genesis | meusing | 38604
Man sinned; Man was judged; Salvation was promised 3:15 The sinner was redeemed 3:21 "We have here, in figure, the great doctrine of divine righteousness set forth. The robe which God provided was a effectual covering, because He provided it just as the apron was an ineffectual covering. Moreover, God's coat was founded upon blood-shedding; Adam's apron was not. So also now, God's righteousness isset forth in the cross; man's righteousness is set forth in the works - the sin-stained works - of his own hands. when Adam stood clothed in the coat of skin he could not say he was naked, not had he any occasion to hide himself. The sinner may feel perfectly at rest when, by faith, he knows that God has clothed him; but to feel at rest till then, can only be the result of presumtion or ignorance. To know that the dress I wear, and in which I appear before God is of His own providing, must set my heart at perfect rest. There can be no true, permanent rest in aught else." 352 | is God and Jesus are one person? | Heb 1:8 | meusing | 38603
I thought when I said "I think you are confusing the Father with Jesus" you would understand that I WAS answering your question by clearing up a misunderstanding. you asked " Why He keep looking up to heaven? if there is no someone there, and they are the same person.? Can you explain why Jesus keep looking up to heaven when He prays to His Father if He Himself is the Father?" My answer is "I think you are confusing the Father with Jesus" ie Jesus is God the Son, not God the Father. So your 'proof' that they are two different persons is also dealt with and your question "Who is the person that speak that from heaven if it is Jesus Christ also the father? is that verse a drama?" is also deat with by my statement "I think you are confusing The Father with Jesus. The Father is God and Jesus is God as well." John 14:28 and John 13:16 are answered by the verses I gave you John 1:1-3 and Phil. 2:6-8. I am sorry that you did not bother to look them up for they explain that Jesus "6 Who, although being essentially one with God, and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be grasped or retained; 7 But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity] so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being. 8 And after He had appeared in the human form He abased and humbled Himself [sill further] and carried His obedience to the extreme of deat, even the death of the cross! See, that anwers your question about Jesus being a servant, He was because He chose to become so. Your next questions are also answered by those verses. I did not ignore the verses you quoted, The passages in John and Philippians explain them. John 1:1 IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. [Isa. 9:6.] Phil 2:6 Who, although being essentially one with God and in the form of God [possessing the fullness of the attributes which make God God], did not think this equality with God was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained, Phil 2:7 But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave), in that He became like men and was born a human being. |

I think you are confusing The Father with Jesus. The Father is God and Jesus is God as well. John 1:1-3 and Phil. 2:6-9 Jesus is Immanuel - God with us He was willing to al aside His glory and make Himself a servant to God the Father. remember that Heb 1:3 says " He is the sole expression of the glory of God -- the Light-being, the out-raying of the divine -- and He is the perfect imprint and very image of (God's) nature, upholding and maintaining and guiding and propelling the universe by His mighty word of power. When He had by offering Himself accomplished our cleansing of sins and riddance of guilt, He sat down at the right hand of the divine Majesty on high. Amplified |

354 | WAS JESUS GOD ON EARTH TOO OR JUSTMAN | Ps 8:5 | meusing | 38298
Sorry, that is Heb 5:7-9 Heb 5:7 In the days of His flesh [Jesus] offered up definite, special petitions [for that which He not only wanted but needed] and supplications with strong crying and tears to Him Who was [always] able to save Him [out] from death, and He was heard because of His reverence toward God [His godly fear, His piety, in that He shrank from the horrors of separation from the bright presence of the Father]. 8 Although He was a Son, He learned [active, special] obedience through what He suffered 9 And, [His completed experience] making Him perfectly [equipped], He became the Author and Source of eternal salvation to all those who give heed and obey Him, [Isa. 45:17.] Amplified |

Jesus IS good, as He is God, He did not share man's sinful nature Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Jesus created our flesh and became flesh (John 1:14) but He was without sin He was Man and God, Immanuel. so much man that he was so tired that he slept through a raging storm, yet so much God that He calmed that storm with a word. 357 | Am I lost for eternity because of sin | 1 John 1:9 | meusing | 38149
Read the verse over, and over and tell yourself that it is true. Remember John 3:16 then read John 20:31. Paul told us of his struggle with this in Rom 7. He then wrote Rom. 8.1 Our salvation is based on what Jesus has done, not how we feel about it. |

358 | who is pure from sin | 1 John 1:9 | meusing | 38148
We look to the Scriptures for the truth. The question I think should be, if we are saved, would we defend a lifestyle that is offensive to God? The Holy Spirit brings the scriptures to our memory to convict us of our sin (John 16:7-11) so that we can apply this verse and recieve cleansing. So how can we continue sinning? (Rom 6:1) |
