321 | A deluding influence? | 2 Thess 2:11 | kalos | 173793
Why will God send a deluding influence? Those who perish do not perish because God sent them a powerful delusion. "They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved." They perish because they "have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness." "The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness." 2 Thess. 2:9-12 (NIV) |

322 | What does "emptied Himself" really mean | Phil 2:7 | kalos | 173760
THE KENOSIS OF CHRIST Statement: CP1207 (Source: www.equip.org/free/CP1207.htm) 'It’s popular today to say that Jesus in the Incarnation was fully man, but certainly not fully God. In discussing the doctrine of the Incarnation (God the Son in human flesh), Philippians 2:7 says that Jesus “emptied himself.” Does this mean that Jesus was not 100 percent God as well as 100 percent man? 'While historic Christianity has always affirmed that Jesus Christ was both fully God and fully man, some have argued that in order for Jesus to have been truly human He must have divested Himself of certain divine attributes. In fact, those who affirm this very novel view nearly always appeal to Philippians 2:5-7. Which, by the way, says, “Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but he emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.” The words “emptied Himself” are interpreted by a growing number of people today to mean that Christ actually laid aside certain divine attributes. But is this correct? Well as a matter of fact, it’s not. 'To say that Jesus surrendered even one divine attribute is to say that Jesus is less than God, and therefore not God at all! See, if God is deprived of even one attribute, then He is not fully deity. Of course references to his deity abound in Scripture (John 1:1; 20:28; Rom. 9:5; Col. 2:9; Tit. 2:13; Heb. 1:8). And by the way, this is not only affirmed by the Bible, it’s clearly affirmed by the creeds. 'Of course the question is asked: If Jesus didn’t give up His deity, then what did Christ empty Himself of? Well the context indicates very clearly that Jesus veiled His glory as a sign of his humility. He voluntarily makes Himself of no reputation. He sets aside His high position and waves His divine prerogatives because He loves us. But while Christ surrenders His divine glory, he does not surrender His divine attributes.' 324 | Way was Mary chosen as the mother of Jes | Matt 1:18 | kalos | 173742
Why was Mary chosen as the mother of Jesus? Ask God. He's the one who chose her. Believe it or not, even God has free will and He gets to make choices every once in awhile. Of course God's free will is limited by and subject to man's free will, or so I've heard. Not! Grace to you, Kalos |

God's pencil has no eraser He who overcomes shall thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life. Revelation 3:5 "It is unfortunate that this passage in Revelation has become a focal point of controversy. The result has been a fixation on what the verse does not say rather than what it does say. This verse was never intended as a warning. Within its context there is nothing negative or foreboding about these words. In fact, it makes a strong statement in favor of eternal security. It is a passage of encouragement and praise. "The comments are directed to a group of faithful believers from the church in Sardis. Unlike the majority of the folks in their congregation, this handful of members had remained unsoiled by the world around them. The verse in question contains Christ's commendation to this group for their consistent walk. "To assume from what is said here that God will possibly erase names from the book of life is to read into the text a concept clearly not present. At best, it is an argument from silence, for the verse simply reads, "And I will not erase his name from the book of life." If this statement raises doubts for some about eternal security, they would do well to search the Scriptures for an answer. But to base one's answer to this important question on this verse is to adopt a method of study with the potential of leading to all kinds of problematic conclusions." (...) "The good news is, God's pencil has no eraser. Before you breathed your first word, God knew how you would respond to His offer of grace. According to His foreknowledge, He wrote your name in the book of life. And there it shall remain forever. Jesus said it this way: "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow me; and I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. John 10.27-28 "And as if that were not clear enough: "My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. John 10.29 " ____________________ To read the entire article, which I suggest you do before you reply with questions, go to: www.intouch.org/myintouch/exploring/ bible_says/eternal_security/erase_149096.html At StudyBibleForum.com see also ID# 149613 or go to: www.revelationcommentary.org/03_chapter.html and read the commentary on Revelation 3:5-6. |

326 | Is the Saved and Lost Position right? | Bible general Archive 3 | kalos | 173485
Bro Raymond: The next time someone tells you that "one can lose his salvation by taking himself out of God's hands", just ask them the following: John 10:28-29 In what version of the Bible does John 10:28-29 say: 'And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. [29] My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand, BUT WE CAN TAKE OURSELVES OUT OF GOD'S HAND'? If it is true that we can take ourselves out of God's hand, then according to verse 29, we are greater than God. Rom 8:39 In what version of the Bible does Romans 8:39 say: 'nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, BUT WE CAN SEPARATE OURSELVES FROM HIS LOVE'? In verse 39, if man can separate himself from God's love, then man was not created. It says: "nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God." Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall ADD unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: Deut. 4:2 Ye shall not ADD unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. 'B. ...what God actually does when He saves a soul. '1. He loves to the uttermost. '2. He purposes to keep in spite of everything. '3. He intends to present us faultless before Himself. '4. 328 | What is this verse telling me? Brenda K | Rev 7:4 | kalos | 173438
Who are the 144,000? 'In prophetic circles, there are numerous attempts at identifying the 144,000 Jews mentioned in Revelation 7 and 14. A common identification is that they are Jewish evangelists that traverse the world during the 70th week of Daniel and are instrumental in bringing untold numbers of people into the kingdom of God. That understanding is, however, never taught in the Scripture! 'When a study is made of the 144,000, we learn that there are only three verses in the entire Bible that mention these people (Rev. 7:4; 14:1,3) . From a study of these three verses we learn the following: '1. They are 12,000 Jews from 12 tribes of Israel that are sealed for protection... '2. In Revelation 14 they are with "the Lamb...standing on Mount Zion" and bearing the name of His Father "written on their foreheads". In 14:3 they sing a new song "before the throne". '3. In 14:3-4 we also learn that these are "purchased from the earth" as "first fruits to God and to the Lamb" (from among the Jews), are spiritually pure ("not ... defiled with women"), follow the Lamb "wherever He goes", are absolutely honest and "are blameless".' ____________________ Who are the 144,000? by Rev. 330 | Difference backsliden or not saved? | 2 Cor 13:5 | kalos | 173345
"The word backsliding...is found only in Old Testament references to the nation of Israel." 'Can a true Christian backslide? 'Certainly true Christians can backslide, if by that you mean they can regress into a period of spiritual dullness or disobedience. Those who do so will bring God’s discipline (Hebrews 12:6-11). That's because God disciplines those who are true sons (v. 8). 'But no, if you are thinking of backsliding as a perpetual state of willful rebellion or ungodly indifference on the part of one who professes faith in Christ. That situation is a sign of false profession (Matthew 7:21-23; 1 John 3:4-10). 'The word backsliding...is found only in Old Testament references to the nation of Israel (Jeremiah 3:22; 31:22; 49:4; Hosea 4:16; 11:7; 14:4, KJV). 'Sometimes it speaks of backsliding as the action of unregenerate people who turn stubbornly away from God (cf. Jeremiah 8:5). In that sense the word cannot be used to describe true Christians.' ____________________ See BIBLE FAQs at www.gty.org |

'BACKSLIDING Term used by the prophets to describe Israel's faithlessness to God (Isaiah 57:17 RSV; Jeremiah 3:14,Jeremiah 3:22; Jeremiah 8:5; Jeremiah 31:22; Jeremiah 49:4; Hosea 11:7; Hosea 14:4). In these passages it is clear that Israel had broken faith with God by serving other gods and by living immoral lives. See "Apostasy".' (Holman Bible Dictionary, published by Broadman and Holman, 1991) Notice that "backsliding" describes ISRAEL'S faithlessness to God. The "church" is nowhere mentioned in the above definition, just as the word "backsliding" is not in the New Testament. |

God Does Not Mumble How Does God Speak To Us? ____________________ 'God's specialized instructions "are not mumbled. They are not whispered. They are not nudged."' ____________________ 'How does God speak to us? 'I have to make clear what my point of view is so that it's not misunderstood. Let me capsulize it for you very quickly. My point of view is basically four quick points: 'First of all, learning to hear the voice of God is not taught as a Christian discipline that we must learn in order to live the optimal Christian life. This is the "hotline to God" view in which we get specialized and tailor-made instructions for our personal lives. That is not taught in Scripture. 'Secondly, God sometimes does give specialized instructions, so I'm not saying that God can't do that and I'm not putting God in a box. He does sometimes give specialized instructions. He did in Biblical times and He does in the present. But when we read in the Bible especially in the New Testament, which is what our discussion is about today, when He has done it, such specialized instructions are clear first of all. They are not mumbled. They are not whispered. They are not nudged. And they are, almost without exception in the New Testament, a sovereign intrusion by God into the circumstances rather than something that is first sought by a Christian. 'Thirdly, God's intrusion in these cases is sometimes through special gifts in the body that I believe are in full operation today, but are by very nature individual. In other words, every person has his own gift and each person does not have every gift. So this working through gifts can't be a means of every Christian hearing from God. In other words, sometimes God intervenes with a prophetic word, but since prophetic words only come through those people who have the gift of prophecy, it's not the kind of thing we all have to cultivate, to learn to do. 'Finally, there are clearly workings of the Spirit in the area of teaching, conviction of sin and comforting of individual Christians. I admit that those workings are private, individual and tailored to individual people. Those kinds of things are not in question here.' ____________________ Source: Acts and the Voice of God by Gregory Koukl TO READ MORE GO TO: www.str.org/free/commentaries/ theology/actsvoic.htm Grace to you, Kalos |

334 | Hear God | John 10:27 | kalos | 173324
"My Sheep Hear My Voice" 'Many have taken this statement by Jesus in John 10 to refer to the Christian's acquired ability to "hear" God's personal instructions to him. "Hearing God's voice" is advocated as a very useful skill that aids optimal Christian living. Allegedly, this is a learned ability one gains as he matures in Christ. It enables him to sense Jesus' will in any given situation as he "hears" Jesus' voice. 'Jesus has nothing like this in mind, though. I know because of the context surrounding the verse and a key clarification John himself gives early in the chapter. In verse six, John explicitly states that when Jesus speaks of His sheep "hearing His voice" He is using a figure of speech.' NASB John 10:6 This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them. 'The word "voice," then, can't actually mean some kind of inner voice because a thing is never a metaphor of itself. It's a picture of something else. Jesus must be referring, in a figure, to something else that the phrase "hear my voice" represents. What is it? 'The context tells the story. Jesus says, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me," and then adds, "and I give eternal life to them" (27-28). Note the sequence: His sheep hear His voice. They follow Him in response. He then gives them eternal life. Hearing Jesus' voice is a figure of speech for the inner working of the Holy Spirit that leads to our salvation. It results IN salvation; it's not the result OF salvation. It's applied here to non-believers destined for the Kingdom, not believers already in the Kingdom. 'This makes perfect sense in the broader context of the chapter. The Jews have no trouble hearing Jesus' words. They know what Jesus is saying. Their problem is that they don't respond with belief. Why don't the Jews "hear" Jesus by responding with belief? Jesus tells us plainly. They don't "hear" because God is not "speaking" to them. They are not among the sheep the Father has given to the Son (26). 'The voice being referred to here is not the still, small voice of private direction given by God to Christians, but the effective call of the Holy Spirit bringing non-Christians to salvation. 'Our paraphrase test comes to our aid once again: 'You do not believe, because you are not of My sheep. Mature Christians have the ability to sense My personal direction for their lives and obey it, and as a result I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all…. 'vs. 'You do not believe, because you are not of My sheep. The ones that the Father gives me, my sheep, are the ones that respond to my message and believe in me, and as a result I give eternal life to them, and they shall never perish; and no one shall snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all…. 'The first view actually makes salvation dependent on the ability to get personalized communications from God. The second makes salvation dependent on the Father, which is Jesus' point in the passage. 'To Jesus, "hearing" God is not an advanced skill one must develop to open lines of communication to the Father. It's a figure of speech. Hearing Jesus' voice is not getting individual, personalized direction. It's getting saved. It's the result of the Father drawing the non-believer into Jesus' arms.' 335 | Jesus takes keys to death and hell | Rev 1:18 | kalos | 173150
No scripture says Satan ever had any keys ___________________ 'The second part of the “weekend in Hell” doctrine is that Satan owned "the keys" to death, hell, and the grave, and that Jesus had to go win them from him. 'a. There are ABSOLUTELY NO scriptures which even remotely suggest that Satan ever had any keys to anything. 'b. Furthermore, God opens and shuts, and no one stops Him in going either direction. 'Isa 22:22 The key of the house of David I will lay on his shoulder; So he shall open, and no one shall shut; And he shall shut, and no one shall open. 'Isa 45:1 "Thus says the LORD to His anointed, To Cyrus, whose right hand I have held; To subdue nations before him And loose the armor of kings, To open before him the double doors, So that the gates will not be shut: 'Rev 3:7 "And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, 'These things says He who is holy, He who is true, "He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens": 'c. There are only two verses in the Bible where these keys are mentioned. The devil is never seen with them. 'Mat 16:19 "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." 'Rev 1:18 "I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death. 'Now think, did the Devil EVER have the power of life and death? Did Satan EVER have authority to sentence anyone to Hell? The answer is “no!” God alone has, and has always had, that power and authority.' To read more go to: www.bible.org |

Read your Bible. There were times when Pharoah hardened his own heart. Where in the Bible does it say Pharoah had no choice? When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. James 1:13-14 (NIV) Isn't it good to let God be God? It is good not to tell God how to be God or how to run his business. |

Will the Real Sabbath Please Stand Up? ____________________ "No one doubts that Yeshua (Jesus) kept the Shabbat on the correct day. Had he not, he would have violated the Torah making him a sinner (1 Jn. 3:4)" ____________________ The "Lunar Sabbath" or Saturday Sabbath: Will the Real Sabbath Please Stand Up? by N’tan (Nathan) Lawrence '...Upon reading the written explanations and apologies of the “lunar Sabbath” advocates one could be easily swayed to their position by their admittedly in-depth biblical understanding and often-times scholarly approach, and sometime clever polemic. But upon careful analysis, the holes in their line of reasoning become readily apparent. It is not the scope of this work to address all the issues they throw up. Those of us who keep the Shabbat on Saturday don’t have to, for the burden of proof is on the other side to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the weekly cycle has been altered since the time of Yeshua (Jesus) the Messiah. If they cannot prove this, then no amount of clever reasoning either from secular or Scriptural sources matters, for it is all irrelevant to the issue. 'How can I aver this so forcefully? It is rather quite simple logic. No one doubts that Yeshua (Jesus) kept the Shabbat on the correct day. Had he not, he would have violated the Torah making him a sinner (1 Jn. 3:4) and not the perfect sacrificial lamb slain for the redemption of sinful man. If he kept a “lunar Shabbat”, as the “lunar Sabbath” advocates maintain, then the burden of proof is upon them to prove that the weekly cycle was changed after the time of Yeshua. If it can be proved that the weekly cycle indeed did not change from the time of Yeshua until now, then the lunar Sabbath advocates have lost the argument and everything else they say or write, no matter how persuasive or scholarly it may be, is moot and irrelevant.' ____________________ To read more, go to: www.tnnonline.net/theonews/ ten-commandments/lunar-sabbath/ |
