2941 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Ray | 6233
Hi Steve, I think if we look at the whole book and see the changes that Nebuchadnezzar made back and forth, we see the glory of his kingdon restored and a prolonging of his prosperity. See Daniel 4:27 and see if he did not indeed "break away from your sins by doing righteousness and from your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a prolonging of your prosperity."
2942 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Ray | 6231
Hi Steve Butler, You realize that I chose Spirit of the holy God from the footnote. The NKJ reads Spirit of the Holy God. My wife is a school teacher and she has to fight the temptation to classify every "Nathan"or "Benjamin" or whatever name as a troublemaker just because she has had trouble with a lot of them in the past. In other words, I think you have to get past his heathen name. It is true that scripture doesn't tell us that Daniel spoke in tongues as proof of his committment. As far as Nebuchadnezzar is concerned, another case for "security of the believer" might be argued. In any case, get back with me about what I missed with the "resd" to Hank. |

2943 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Ray | 6229
Hi Steve Butler, I need to know what resd is so that I can respond to your "Also". You seem to be saying that Daniel couldn't have the Spirit of the holy God dwelling in him because he had a heathen name given to him by the commander of the officials early in his life. I don't see Daniel doing anything in the authority or name of Belteshazzar. The one whose committment we are considering is of Nebuchadnezzar. We might consider Daniel 2:11 together to see whose God is able to dwell with mortal flesh. |

2944 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Ray | 6201
Hi Hank, I don't see him clinging to his Babylonian gods in Daniel after he found out that there is no other God who is able to deliver. I think he followed Daniel and his friends "so as not to serve or worship any god except their own God." Certainly his witness in Daniel 4:2 is excellent. And I think he came to realize that Heaven rules, Daniel 4:26, and that his grandeur was bestowed by Him, Daniel 5:19. And again He is able. Daniel 4:37, "Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise, exalt, and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just, and He is able to humble those who walk in pride. I think he even recognized the Spirit of God. Daniel 4:8, marginal note, Or possibly, ..."the Spirit of the holy God." |

2945 | Light before light sources | Gen 1:3 | Ray | 6199
Hi Lionstrong, It is also interesting, I think, to compare Genesis 16,17 where it talks of the light sources with John 9:5. "(God) placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to govern the day and the night..."--"While I am in the world, I am the (Light) of the world." Jn 8:12 is a good contrast, "Then Jesus again spoke to them saying, "I am the (Light) of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life." If you are of a mind to add some capitalization you can also compare John 11:9, "Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the (Light) of this world. But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the Light is not in him." Who is this Son of Man? John 12:35, "So (Jesus) said to them, "For a little while longer the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may become sons of Light." John 12:44, "And Jesus cried out and said, "He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. He who sees Me sees the (One) who sent Me. I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness." John 3:19, "This is the judgement, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the (Light), and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God." I have just written scriptures, but I would invite you to compare the pronouns in parenthesis with each of the passages. Later, Ray |

2946 | The number one third? | Rev 8:7 | Ray | 6145
Hi reformedreader, I notice that the King James, the NKJ and one of two Interlinear editions I own do not have this phrase "and a third of the earth was burned up". Go with one of those and you won't have to worry about it. But if the trees and the green grass burns up, I wouldn't hold up much hope for the people if they stay in that third.
2947 | Why was Jesus named “Jesus”? | Is 7:14 | Ray | 6139
Hi charis, A capitalization question for you. You wrote that Isa 8:8 seems to speak to the 'land of Messaiah." Does that mean that you lean toward the capitalization of "Your land" as in the NKJ? This speaks to the Deity of Christ in my mind. Isaiah 7:14 and Matthew 1:23 make a very good contrast for scripture comparison. Another important capitalization would be the NKJ "Child" of Isaiah 7:16. Later, Ray |

2948 | A question of capitalization: small "s"? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 6120
Hi JVH, It is good to hear from you, truly. I appreciate your quote of the MacArthur Study Bible and his capitalization of Angel. I've noticed now that NASB still has verse 28 in lower case with NKJ having Angel also. I haven't gone through Daniel in a long while and I haven't always capitalized angel; it has been and probably will be a difficult decision in the future. But I have kept your words in mind and have made my copy back to "and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods." (I'd even encourage every Tom, Richard, and Harry to consider penciling that in their NKJ). In exchange I'd like you to consider the NKJ capitalization of Daniel 3:29, "inasmuch as there is no other God who is able to deliver in this way." This should be in contrast to Daniel 3:15 "and what god is there who can deliver you out of my hands?" It is the answer for NKJ "who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?" Over and over we read in scripture we read "He is able" or the "One who is able". Amen. If I can throw in a joke. I am reminded of the fishermen telling stories, with one of them ending the time saying, "I'll put the light out of the lantern I snagged if you'll take twenty inches off the fish you caught." But I think we had a good exchange here.(If accepted.) In passing, concerning Daniel, I would capitalize Spirit of the holy God in Daniel 4:9 and wherever it appears. (The NKJ has "Spirit of the Holy God.") I welcome your comments. Thanks. Later, Ray |

2949 | A question of capitalization: small "s"? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 6100
Hi EdB, I'll be interested in what other people might be choosing for I think that these are valid considerations. I agree also with NKJ in the Daniel and the furnace episode. The figure in the furnace appeared like the Son of God and the men put their faith in their God who had sent His angel. I left out one "in the Spirit" phrases from Revelation. I would put the three that we have considered in lower case along with Rev 4:2. For consistency I would also put Matthew 22:43 as "Then how does David in the spirit call Him Lord,"... But if you know me at all you know that I would capitalize the three words of "Son" in that passage. In Acts 21:4, I chose the small "s" when I compared it with Acts 20:22,23 "And now, bound in spirit, I am on my way to Jerusalem,..." And just the fact that the will of the Lord, Acts 21:14, was to be done and Paul did go to Jerusalem (and to Rome), shows that it wasn't the Spirit telling Paul through them. Again, thank you EdB. I'm glad for the discussion if only to reinforce the truth that Jesus is the Son of God and the Son of Man. |

2950 | A question of capitalization: small "s"? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 6059
Hi EdB, Thank you very much for answering. I agree that the capitalized S is not all that wrong. I'm looking for a little more consistency, however from our translators. Another place where there is "in the Spirit" is Ezekiel 37:l although NASB has "by the Spirit of the Lord". I haven't decided on that one yet or verse 14 where it says "And I will put My Spirit within you, and you will come to life,..." A note in the Study Bible says that Spirit could be "breath" within you: I'll be comparing it with my possible "breath of Life" at Gen 2:7. Anyway, Ezekiel 36:26,27 show us that both cases could be used correctly, or at least that it is not all "cut and dried," so to speak. Verse 26 says "put a new spirit within you" and verse 26, "And I will put My Spirit within you,..." According to my "Phrase Concordance of the Bible" by Nelson publishers, there are twenty four "IN THE SPIRIT" phrases. What are your thoughts on four more? Mt 22:43, Acts 19:21, 1Peter 4:6, or Acts 21:4 "through the Spirit"? Thanks again. In regard to the Son of Man and who it may be a direct reference to may I suggest the study of Daniel 3:25 in the NASB and the NKJ. Later, Ray |

2951 | A question of capitalization: small "s"? | Not Specified | Ray | 6042
The NASB enters an alternate capitalization occasioning at the bottom of the page. Consider with me the three "in the Spirit" occurances of Rev 1:10, Rev 4:2, and Rev 21:10. How many of you would make this a small "s"? Also, how about Son of Man in Rev. 1:13?

2953 | How then should we live? | Jude 1:21 | Ray | 6041

2954 | Need to find a scripture | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 5942
Hi prayon, It seems to me that it should continue, 'like has never been seen or will be seen again'. I can't find it if that is the one. I like Ezekiel 25:17 though. "I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful rebukes; and they will know that I am the Lord when I lay My vengeance on them."
2955 | Should Benny throw the Holy Spirit? | 1 John 4:1 | Ray | 5828
I'm not of Benny Hinn's tradition although I read one of his first books and watch him very rarely on TV. I think that he most often gives glory to God after he does an activity, whatever it may be. I think it is more meaningful for the unbeliever. As far as his quotes, I find little to find fault with at first glance and since he is such a visible preacher it is common to talk about him, (maybe someone can tell him if he needs to contribute or defend). My preacher dad taught me long ago when I came under fire for a minor incident in my childhood that I can't please everyone and that the only One I had to please was God. It's hard to come up with a good sermon every Sunday and its hard for a media person not to be tempted to tickle the ears a little bit. At least the little messiah was printed in the lower case, JVH. The Superman example was a tickling I think that would be hard to back up biblically. The next quote about the Trinity is what I was studying five years before him and still believe as one could see by my posts. I would disagree with him if he makes the Son in His triuneness into a man. Thus, I disagree with Benny in that he says that God became a man. The other thing that we should remember as we're reading these quotes is that Benny Hinn may have changed some thoughts, and maybe would not agree with his quotes today. I think he does the best he can, and you can't deny his ministry. My wife says I am "wasting a beautiful day" and maybe I have been. I'll leave the rest of the quotes for someone to "test" if need be. |

2956 | Gifts of the Spirit - baptism or filled? | 1 Cor 12:13 | Ray | 5788
Hi JVH, I see now where you had mentioned "controlled by and empowered by" in the previous posting. I had written that I didn't see any control in the scripture references. And the empowered by the holy spirit I still see as a gift or an ability that we have because of our knowledge of the truth of the scriptures, our thanksgiving towards God, our desire to please Him, our walk with Him who is our Life if you will. But He is not controlling us; but He chose us, we belong to Him, we walk with Him, the Life was manifested and what we have seen and heard we proclaim. Luke 4:1 ,"Jesus, full of the holy spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness...." is my interpretation. NKJ reads, "being filled". In any case as I've said before, I do not think that He was being filled with Himself, thus I choose the lower case. The dictionary idea of dissipation and using up wastefully or foolishly shows that we are to drink of the one Spirit and to use the gifts that He gives us as we are being filled. For I believe that He gives the spirit without measure. John 3:34 Later, Ray |

2957 | Why five words? | 1 Cor 14:19 | Ray | 5781
P.S. I found the words in verses 14, 15, 16, and verse 2 of 1Cor 14. This is a correction of a posting. The seven words "of edification" you can find for yourselves if interested.
2958 | Jesus earth: God/man or just man? | NT general Archive 1 | Ray | 5722
Hi Nolan Keck, I'm not in an agrumentative mood today. I liked your posting with Lionstrong on 5/12 regarding the Trinity. I liked your recent posting where you gave references of each Person being the Truth. What I would like to talk to you about is where you say here that, "But Jesus is the only one of the Three of the Holy Trinity that has given us access to a Way that we can be in a right relationship with God." Look at your posting again and see if you can not capitalize the other words of "way". Look at John 14:4 with me, but in the NKJ because they have the pronouns that I see in different order. "And where I go you know, and the Way you know."NKJ John 14:5,"Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the Way? Jesus said to him, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." And then the big question in verse 7 is, "Do we know Him?" I see God saying in verse two, "I go to prepare a place for you." I see the the Man being spoken to in verse five, ..."we do not know where You are going,..." I see the Spirit saying to us, "Do you know Me?" I do not claim to have all the answers or know everything, but I am just sharing what I believe as a fellow brother in Christ. Later, Ray |

2959 | Pre-Forum thinking? | Acts 2:38 | Ray | 5657
Hi Buf, I'm sorry if I misjudged you and maybe I can get to know you better. Please notice the "If" of my posting earlier also. The verse you have in mind here in Matthew 28 has Jesus certainly speaking for Himself as God. The people had just worshipped Him and there is only one God to be worshipped, even as you have said perhaps in former postings. At least you've said that there are not three Gods. I am a person who is obsessed with capitalization as some may think (or know). So my "if" of the last posting was a concern that I have that people know Jesus as Lord. That's His name. He wasn't a lord, or just a man. Jesus in my mind was not a man but a Man. He is God and not a god. That was what I wanted to express and make clear for your thinking as well. You have expressed that you do not believe in three Gods (and I do not either), and infer I believe a definite leaning away from the Trinity. I think you have stated that you believe that Jesus and the Father are one. Which One is to be worshipped then? The Lord Jesus or the Lord God who was not known by His name "Lord"? You may be leaning toward thinking of them both as Spirit. I wouldn't find fault with that. I think you have written that the Jesus' flesh was under control of the spirit. I would have chosen a capital S but that's all right. Let me know more of your thoughts so we can study together perhaps. Whatever, Later, Ray |
