2921 | Did Christ die for the world? | 1 John 2:2 | Ray | 6613
Hi Tim, I agree with Ezekiel in the tree next door. Christ died for the whole world but it requires faith and obedience on our part. But He shows us His favor, its nothing that is due to us for any work that we do. Ezekiel chose the Roman 3:25 scripture dealing with propitiation. Here we see also, verse23, "for *all have sinned* and fall short of the glory of God." But the propitiation was to demonstrate His righteousness, "so that (He) might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus." Romans 4:4, "Now to the one who works, his wage is not credited as a favor, but as to what is due. But to the one who does not work, but believes in (Him) who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness." Compare this Roman passage with John. Romans 3:29b, "Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, since indeed God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumsised through faith is one. Do we nullify the Law through faith?...But to the one who does not work, but believes in (Him) who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited as righteousness." John 3:15, "...so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in (Him) shall not perish, but have eternal life." 1John 4:14 "We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son into the world to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that (Jesus) is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God."...verse17,"because as (He) is, so also are we in this world." 1John 5:5,"Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that (Jesus) is the Son of God?"...verse 20,"...so that we may know (Him) who is true...This is the true God and eternal life." So what am I saying, and what do I see these scriptures as saying? I'm saying with 1John 3:3, "And everyone who has this hope fixed on Him purifies himself, just as (He) is pure." I say with 1 John 2:14 that if we have the word of (God) in us, we can overcome the evil one. Verse15, "Do not love the world nor the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." What I'm saying Tim, is that God is righteous, and the whole world is not going to know (Him) or listen to us. 1John 4:6 But it all depends on the spirit of God. 1John 4:2,6,13 God loves the world, but He hates the sins of the world. Compare John 3:17 with 1John 2:15-17. |

2922 | Did Christ die for the world? | 1 John 2:2 | Ray | 6599
Hi Tim, I, too, like the idea of narrowing down a discussion. I want to compare the verses that you mention here. You mentioned for 1Jn 2:2 that there was a contrast, but I don't see that. I see from 1John that we are all sinners. The Gospel of John talks about the world. Jn.1:9, "There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. He was in the world, and the world was made through (Him), and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in (His) name. (Parenthesis mine for comparison) This passage says that He enlightens every man; He came for the whole world. The world didn't know Him; does it yet? Those who were His own did not recieve Him; do they yet? Certainly not everybody. Verse sixteen says, "For of (His) fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace." Jesus has explained Him. 1Jn 2:2, And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; and He (Himself) is the propitiation for our sins; Hebrews 2:17, "Therefore He had to be made like His brethren in all things, that He might become a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to (God), to make propitiation for the sins of the people. Hebrews 3:10 says, "And they did not know (My) ways." He died for those who know (Him), and believe in (Him), and know (His) word, who know Him as the (Light) of the world. God will always have His remnant of (His) people. |

2923 | Not my will? | Rom 5:6 | Ray | 6475
Hi bartay, Just in passing, I would have you look at Genesis 2:19 and 3:22 in order to consider if the tree of life was an option for them. But it is definitely clear that Satan does not want us to eat of the tree of life.
2924 | Christ dying only for elect? | Rom 5:6 | Ray | 6472
Hi Lionstrong, It appears that you started a long string of conversation. I was led by your references to compare Rom 5:6 with Gal 2:17 rather than 2:20 but I appreciated your comments and want to talk further with you. I keyed on the word "while". "For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly." Rom 5:6 compared to Gal 2:17, "But if, while seeking to be justified in Christ, we ourselves have also been found sinners..." Rom 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that *while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood..." compare this with Gal 2:19, "...is Christ then a minister of sin? May it never be...that I may live to God. I have been crucified with *Christ, and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me..." Romans 6:4, "...so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of (His) death...." compared with Gal 2:20, "...and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me, and delivered (Himself) up for me." (Parenthesis for comparison). This is indeed very personal. I hope that the Potter who can choose anyone He wants will keep us worthy as servants and sons of our Lord. Later, Ray |

2925 | Is Jesus the 'Eternal Father'? | Is 9:6 | Ray | 6425
Hi Joe, The question of John 3:16 is who are we to believe in; God who loved the world or His Son who was given. However, if you put the mix of the Spirit in there and say that whoever believes in the (Spirit) shall not perish, but have eternal life, then we have a better picture of who God is. The idea is to believe in the name of the only begotten Man of Spirit. Later, Ray |

2926 | Yet another capitalization question? | Heb 7:26 | Ray | 6423
Hi EdB and whoever might follow this tree. The position of high priest in NKJ is not capitalized like verse 27 but any reference to Christ is or should be capitalized. In Heb 2:9 we read, "But we do see Him who was made a little lower than the angels, namely Jeus..." Who above in verse 6 is referenced here? Do you see the lack of capitalization? |

2927 | A question of capitalization: small "s"? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 6375
Nothing much to talk about there... How about Hebrews 7:26?
2928 | Is Jesus the 'Eternal Father'? | Is 9:6 | Ray | 6373
Hi Jim, You have said that "we have made Him less" than God the Father. You capitalized Him so you probably are talking of we, His people? Now, how are you meaning the rest of your post? I hear you saying that we are wrongly refusing to let God the Father (one Spirit) become a man. I hear you saying further, that it is imperative that we make Him into a triune whatever. If this is what you're saying I think that you are right on except that the main problem is that people of the world will see Jesus as a man but not as a Man, i.e. God. And that could be a problem of the people of God as well. On reflecting on your wanting to make Him into a triune and not finishing the sentence, I thought of making Jesus into a triune Man. And I thought again of Genesis 1:26,"Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness." I see Genesis 1:27 as the Spirit speaking, "And God created man in His own image..." Let me know how our positions differ. Later, Ray |

2929 | Tranfiguration: What and Why? | Matt 17:2 | Ray | 6370
Hi Hank, I think the transfiguration of Christ was to show His Deity and give them the hope, the view, of what they will see in heaven. Let me write two scripture verses if NASB will allow me to put in capitalization and parenthesis. Compare Matt 17:8 and Matt 18:10. Matt 17:8, And lifting up their eyes, they saw no (One) except Jesus alone." Matt 18:10, "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven. For the Son of (Man) has come to save that which was lost." |

2930 | A question of capitalization: small "s"? | Bible general Archive 1 | Ray | 6368
Hi EdB, After talking with you and others I'm going to go with the appearance of the fourth figure in the furnace as being like a son of the gods. Also, in Daniel 3:28 I'm going to leave the angel uncapitalized; thus equating the two. If you want, I'd welcome discussion on Heb 8:26. Are we allowed to "scam" here?
2931 | Capitals? What was your question Ray? | Is 9:6 | Ray | 6367
Hi Nolan, I think I can agree on fully human, also. I expect some help on a new question under Hebrews 7:26.
2932 | Yet another capitalization question? | Heb 7:26 | Ray | 6366
I believe that we have such a High Priest unlike the high priest(s) of verse 27 who first have to offer sacrifices for their own sins daily for He is a Son, made perfect forever. I have found agreement among friends that Jesus was fully human and fully God. I have capitalized son, I have capitalized high priest as other versions of scripture have, I have capitalized God because He is not a god. My question is this: How important is it for us to think of Jesus as the Son of Man instead of a son of man? How important is it for translators to capital man when speaking of Jesus? |

2933 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Ray | 6339

2934 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Ray | 6330
Hi Hank, Again, thanks for responding. I hadn't realized that the KJV had Daniel 3:15 and 29 as a capitalized "God." I have to make a correction though in that you said that NASB had god capitalized in verse 29; it is however in the NKJ as you stated. If you don't care which God Nebuchadnezzar was thinking of then you shouldn't care whether he was a believer or not. On the other hand, if Nebuchadnezzar had the only true God in mind, it would be a very good scriptural witness to the fact that there is *only one* true God. The God who is able. In other words, Nebuchadnezzar had many gods at the start, and now he can know that he can not know many Gods, for only One is able. |

2935 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Ray | 6304
Hi Hank, Thanks for responding. My response is the same as I wrote, "Is God a generic god?" The king knew already about the God of heaven because Daniel told him that He had made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will take place according to his dreams. Daniel 2:28 The fact is that Daniel and company were delivered. Now you tell me, "Who was the god who was able to deliver? Daniel 3:15 and 29. |

2936 | Is Jesus the 'Eternal Father'? | Is 9:6 | Ray | 6286
Hi Nolan, I have to reopen this topic because I don't think you answered my question. I asked, and pay attention to the capitalization please, "Why do people need a son of man?" You answered, "Translators need a 'Son of Man'..." Do you see why I believe you did not answer the question? You gave references to the Son of Man and they were all capitalized. Why do we need to bring Jesus down to our level and make Him a man? You say that He did not sin. Then make Him God and capitalize Him as a Man. You don't call Him the son of God. You don't think that He is Joseph's illegitimate son. Why must translators make Him a man? It just now dawned on me. If we make Him a Son of Man then we make the Man the Father of the Son and that is what you are denying. I would lead you to Matthew 21:33-46. |
||||||
2937 | Nebuchadnezzar a true believer? | Dan 2:47 | Ray | 6281
Hi Hank, I don't want to talk about Neb here or your question but I would like to speak to the verse of Daniel 2:47. I was thinking of the question of whether God was a god or not. Or whether Jesus was a king or not. I do not think of Him as a god nor a king. In this verse we read a variance from king of kings which was in Daniel somewhere speaking of Nebuchadnezzar and "King of kings and Lord of lords" is usually spoken of our God. Here it says "Surely your God is a God of gods and a Lord of kings..." Carry my thinking to Daniel 3:15b, "and what god is there who can deliver you out of my hands?" How can it be that Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, verse 16, didn't need to say, "There is no god who can deliver..." It's because there is only one God who can deliver. In other words, that is my reasoning to make it a capital God in Daniel 3:15 and 29. Look at 2 Chronicles 32:14 with me a minute. "Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed who could deliver his people out of my hand, that your (God) should be able to deliver you from my hand?" Looking at "people" see verse 17, "As the gods of the nations of the lands have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah shall not deliver (His) people from my hand." A good verse to memorize with a correct (I believe) capitalization is 2 Chron 32:7, "Be strong and courageous, do not fear or be dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor because of all the multitude which is with him; for the *One* with us is greater than the one with him. With him is only an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles."NASB (I don't agree with the NKJ here.) So I would tell people "Capitalize your God for He is mighty and He is able." |

2939 | Hide righteousness or let it shine? | Matt 6:1 | Ray | 6253
"You are the light of the world." Matthew 5:14 "Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." Matthew 5:16 NASB --contrasted with Luke 2:32 "A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel."NKJ If we don't think more highly of ourselves than we ought to think, and realize the huge difference between our light and the Light of the world, we'll be all right. I give you Matthew 4:16 and Luke 1:78,79 to compare. I was led to Luke 6:40 also if you don't mind a little extra capitalization. "A pupil is not above his Teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his Teacher."--contrasted with Matthew 10:24 "A disciple is not above his Teacher, nor a slave above his Master. It is enough for the disciple that he become like his Teacher, and the slave like his (Master)."--John 11:9 "If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the (Light) of this world. (Parenthesis mine for comparison.) |

Hi Steve, It looks like we're talking at the same time here. I have to run an errand so I'll "give you the floor". I don't think that Nebuchadnezzar (necessarily) had the Spirit of the holy God in him but Daniel did according to Nebuchadnezzar.
