Dear insight, Welcome to the forum! I noticed that your profile has an add for your website. Reviewing the Terms of Use, this practice is not allowed, especially, and particularly, since you ask for donations at this site. This forum is not a billboard to advertise our personal endeavors. Though our profiles are not on the pages of the forum proper, they are still part of the restricted area, which falls under the same rules, so it may be wise to remove your add. I'm sure Lockmam will appreciate it. :-) John |

262 | How do you know when GOD is talking to y | Bible general Archive 4 | stjohn | 216706
Dear lionheart, I know you're right, of course. God speaks to us through His Word, "The Bible" but the thrust of this particular question, was: "lots of people will say listen to that quiet voice. But how can you detect that quiet voice, or are you just listening to your own thoughts?" So thats why I answered as I did and not just direct them to God's Word. But, I should probably have made that point as well, because His Word really is the only way we can be, 'one hundred percent sure' that it's God speaking to us. :-) John |

Amen, Azure! That's an excellent and very true point! We must be very careful indeed! Most, if not all charlatans and promulgators of heresy use the Word of God out of context, and twist it to fit their false doctrines. :-( John |

264 | I can't find the post with my link. | Bible general Archive 4 | stjohn | 216714
Dear Insight, Sorry about the confusion, perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I was not referring to any of your posts, I was referring to the link in your personal profile. Sorry if I was not able to convey that thought. Please reread the TOU so that you are very familiar with it before you post. It does not say, by the way that there are no links allowed to websites at all, but, there are some restrictions. The fact that you ask for donations at your website, may make a bit of a conflict for Lockman, and that is also probably why your post was deleted and now just shows the tree dots (...) . Sorry. Hi again insight, I just have one more friendly suggestion if you don't mind, sir. You don't need to post a response to a note as a 'question', you can just click on 'note' and the user you are responding to will be promptly and duly notified via email. This is not a rule, however, this convention does work very well, and makes it much easer to follow the thread. :-) Thanks! John |

269 | Giving one's life | Bible general Archive 4 | stjohn | 217174
Dear Doc, Well said, sir, Romans 12:1 at first glance got me to thinking though; that it might not really fit well because it says to offer our bodies as a 'living' sacrifice, and our organs can hardly be physically donated while we are still alive. But on further reflection -if we consider that, by our living promise to donate an organ we extend the life of another, then- it is reasonable. This seems very reasonable indeed. After all, we couldn't make the decision to donate an organ, after we are dead. Which brings me around once again to reflection, and a memory of an old Bible teacher who once said he especially liked the King James version of this verse, because he always thought of God as being so very reasonable. "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service." Romans 12:1 KJV John |

Amen, Brother Doc! You make yourself very clear to me most all of the time. Though I'm a bit dense at times, that one didn't get past me either. I wasn't contradicting, or thinking in a different area. Keeping His prepossess in mind, I was simply reasoning in my way, taking a different road and -I'm not talking about the 'narrow road' but metaphorically- coming to the same place. Then just expanding a bit. I guess I didn't make myself very clear. Sorry, I was rambling a bit, and sometimes I think people know what I'm thinking without completely explaining myself. This line of thinking makes me wonder though, just how much we sometimes think we can further His purpose, when He, ultimately, is sovereign. I'm not saying of course, we shouldn't do anything, on the contrary, we should do all we can, and then some. Some things about His mysteries will always just amaze me. John |

Vintage... It's pretty plane to see that this is for all ages. The word of God is active and present in the Scriptures today, just as much as it was alive to those who heard Him speak the words in person two thousand years ago but were spiritually blind and deaf. Plenty of folks today can read the same word of God and not see though they see and not hear though we can read it to them. The Scriptures do not say it was only for that generation, but I think common sense would dictate only that it applied to them at that time. Most of the world at large is spiritually blind and deaf to God's word as we speak... Are you sure you don't want that book? John |

278 | Born under the law of Moses | Bible general Archive 4 | stjohn | 218013
Hi Alex, You wrote: "Loving God is not exclusive from obeying God. In fact, love is not even first on the list of what the Father expects from His redeemed people, it's in the middle, kind of like a cementing agent for the other 4 "duties" of a saved person." Loving God most certainly is at the top of the list! Please read, Matthew 22:37-38; Mark 12:28-30; and, Luke 10:25-28. John |

Hi Alex, I agree, you are absolutely correct in saying that, but, to say that loving God is not our first and foremost commandment and somewhere in the middle or that; "it is not even first on the list of what the Father expects from His redeemed people" (sic) goes against what Scripture teaches. According to the Scriptures, it cant be either or, or somewhere in the middle. Loving God IS the greatest, first, and foremost commandment. Matthew 22:36-38; "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?" And He said to him, 'YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.' This is the great and foremost commandment." Mark 12:28-31; "One of the scribes came and heard them arguing, and recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, "What commandment is the foremost of all?" Jesus answered, "The foremost is, 'HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.' The second is this, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' There is no other commandment greater than these." And again, Luke 10:25-28; "And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" And He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How does it read to you?" And he answered, "YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF." And He said to him, "You have answered correctly; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE." John |
