262 | What is the theme or themes of Luke? | Luke 1:1 | Tamara Brewington | 204600
Dear John, thanks for your persistence in the matter there are about four theories on this thing running around, that I have collected through the years, thanks for adding another one; 1)Jesus compassion to the outcast groups religious or otherwise, the role of the Holy Spirit, the reaction of people to Christ. 2)The complete story of Christ, the compasion of Christ, the joy of salvation. 3)Salvation in the Messiah, the compassion of Christ, the role of the Holy Spirit. 4)The history of salvation in the first century, Jesus as the Son of God, the history of the apocalyptic meeting the eschatology of the glory of Jesus as the ascended God Man. I like yours though... ties everything together in one neat package, thanks that is why I will keep on posting my questions, to get new prospectives on old things and new things (to me). God Bless hat lady |

264 | can the SOTM be taken literally? | Matthew | Tamara Brewington | 204596
Dear SAKII, A couple of things would happen, lets see; 1)Verses 5:1-12 - humbleness and perseverance through persecution would be the result. 2)Verses 5:13-20 - remaining unstained by the world and being a light to the world would be the result. 3)Verses 5:21-48 - godly behavior would be the result. 4)Verses 6:1-15 - caring for Jesus in the form of others would be the result. 5)Verses 6:16-24 - being concerned with the internal as opposed to the external would be the result. 6)Verses 6:25-34 - focusing on seeking the kingdom instead of worrying about worldly needs would be the result. 7)Verses 7:1-28 - good moral conduct and focusing on being able to enter life would be the result. Does that answer the question? What here do you think you should not be taking literaly as a Christian I am definetely wondering? The part about suffering perhaps? I Peter 2:21-23 For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps, who committed no sin, nor was any sin found in His mouth; and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept on entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously. Are you serious about whether or not one should be taking it literaly? Or was this a fishing expedition? Not judging. God Bless Tamara |

265 | What is the theme or themes of Luke? | Luke 1:1 | Tamara Brewington | 204594
I am laughing really really hard... How in the world can you find out the theme of Luke from typing in a verse when you have absolutely no idea which verse in Luke should be used as the basis for a theme of Luke? Help a gal out here... Maybe you know something about finding themes by throwing a printing press at a wall and somehow ending up with a verse telling you about the theme. I dunno but I highly doubt it.... hat lady, God Bless you John |

John I meant Daniel 7,8,9,11 sorry......
267 | REV 11 The Temple stands yet destroyed | Rev 1:11 | Tamara Brewington | 204592
Dear John, Tell me my dear good man, which part of Daniel's prophecy? Chapter 7,8,9,13 or other? Mathew 24:1-2 is indeed talking about the destruction of the temple and then the disciples ask when will it happend and when will Jesus come. So we know that Mathew 24:1-2 has already happened. Jesus addresses their concerns about His coming back in verses 4-31. Jesus addresses their concerns about His coming in verses 36-44. I don't agree that He addresses both parts of the question. He never addresses one of their concerns because the disciples have mistakenly placed together His coming with the fall of Jerusalem. Verse 34 has often been used to denote that the whole discourse was about their present generation, but it may well be referring to the generation of those who will, in the future near His coming be undergoing the great tribulation. According to verse 14 the gospel has to be preached to all the world before any of what He is saying can take place in the discourse as being the end. The gospel has not yet been finished being preached to all the earth yet, so the end has not yet come in order for all the various elements of the discourse to be applied to the first century. I don't think there is a break there, just my opinion. Like many other times Jesus does not answer the whole question, only the part He is interested in them knownig about. I am going to keep thinking about this. Say I wanted to say to you that you were the only one to answer any question I posted from Tuesday morning beyond a short reply and I appreciate the time you took to answer.:) Ain't tryin to complain, just grateful. God Bless hat lady Yeah John I don't want to be slippin and slidin with that inquisitive mind there. |

268 | Amazement functioned in Mark? | Mark 1:22 | Tamara Brewington | 204588
My Dearest RC, There is absolutely no offense taken at all. I am very sorry to hear what happened to you and can see how it might color how you view some things, hard to remain unjaded I know.:) Wondering if you would care to enlighten me about the erroneous teachings of Dispensationalism? Not looking for a debate I promise you, I will be open to a new view than mine. Please email me at whatdoyoubelieve@hotmail.com. I am a Dispensationalist who believes in an Historical Futuristic view of Revelation based on Revelation 1:3,9, I am also a Pre-Millenialist. However, there are elements of what people call Dispensationalist, Historical Futurist that I don't agree with as they are currently being taught. As I said, I am not looking to debate, maybe just ask you questions since you have been around for a while and try to understand your views. Just a thought, hat lady |

Dear Searcher, The threads don't say anything about the theme or themes of Luke whatsoever. Did you check them out before writing me? Is this a well intentioned joke or something? Humor me, just try typing in luke in the search engine up there and you will find a ton of things with the word Luke in them, but none about the theme of Luke. Humor me some more, try typing in the theme of Luke you will find nothing there about the theme of Luke. I tried doing this before I posted my question. Thank you anyway God Bless hat lady |

274 | What do we learn about prayer here? | John 17:1 | Tamara Brewington | 204579
Dear Steve, Please forgive me, I am interested in knowing what others think on things that I may have learned about but didn't agree with what I learned or wanted a different take on it. And some of my questions had nothing to do with anything other than studying about something and wanting to know what someone else thinks about it. I went through the threads before asking this question... Brain teaser about nouns anyone? Bare bones outlines? An exploration into verse 1-5? I was looking for a bit more than that... Thanks anyway hat lady |

275 | REV 11 The Temple stands yet destroyed | Rev 1:11 | Tamara Brewington | 204577
Yeah John I do find it very interesting as we are currently near the end of studying Revelation at church on Wednesday nights. I welcome the enlightenment John, I really do... :):):) I have been thinking a bit about elements of the Preterist view and thinking about how Jesus talked about both the fall of Jerusalem and the end times at once in Mathew or so they say, I mean some say... My trouble has been when regarding any type of view that espouses any part of of Revelation past chapters 2 and 3 has happened yet is that the rest of what is supposed to happen rather consecutively seems to have been broken up by more than 2,000 plus years. The problem with saying that the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD is that it is supposed to coincide with an appearing of Christ which did not happen, contrary to the veiws of those who like to say it was Christ appearing as Christ's judgment appearing. I like to take the tack as someone so graciously directed me to do and which my pastor gently reminded me of to not read into a passage double prophesies that the author never intended, or which logically can be refuted based on historical and or Biblical evidence. I like it when you do this John, make me think I mean. :):):) God Bless hat lady |

276 | REV 11 The Temple stands yet destroyed | Rev 1:11 | Tamara Brewington | 204558
See Daniel 9 and look closely at verse 24-27, it says that Jerusalem will be rebuilt. Most commentators believe that the temple will be rebuitl at this time and the time is during the the times of distress in Revelation. See Daniel 11:31 where it says that forces from him will arise and desecrate the temple and set up the abomination of desolation. You can't have descration in a temple that does not exist, it has to be rebuit first. It has not rebuit yet and probably won't be rebuilt until the times of distress comes in Revelation times. John doesn't have to mention the temple being destroyed in 70 AD to write about it being rebuilt. As John pointed out to you he was to write down what he saw, not what we want to know. Another thing to factor in is that John would naturally assume that his readers knew that the temple had been destroyed and would not need to mention it. God Bless, Tamara |

277 | Destiny of Hinnom? | Jer 31:40 | Tamara Brewington | 204557
Dear Thomas, This appears to be saying that the Valley of Hinnom after being likened to hell will end up being changed. See Jeremiah 30:18 where it talks about the resotoration of Jacob. In that passage Jeremihah talks about restoring the place where Jacob dwells as rebuidling on the ruins. Your passage in Jeremiah 31:40 is directly saying that this place the Valley of Hinnom will be restored to a holy state. This relates I believe very well to what you have been studying, Revelation, because in chapter 20 you have Jesus coming back and setting up rule for the 1,000 years and this is when Jerusalem will get fully restored as a holy city functioning in a holy state and not before. God bless Tamara |

279 | Amazement functioned in Mark? | Mark 1:22 | Tamara Brewington | 204553
My dear RC, I always forgive you. I say what follows in respect and love. I am not in college at all, just a Bible school. and yes I went checking although I didn't say that for each question and didn't find an answer so I posted the questions. These are not class questions per say, some of them did not stem from hearing things I did not agree or disagree with in class, but came from looking at some passages. But some of them did come from taking class and being left wondering more about the subject, or just plain frustrated with what I have been taught. But I never, ask something because I need an answer for class and look for the answer here. I often ask forum members what they think about a take on a subject that I already have researched and don't agree with what a professor taught, but not to be able to take that to go pass a class. These are professors who decided to devote their time to a Bible School for lay people. Does it really matter what my motive is in asking a question other than a real desire to study everything about the Bible? As long as I am not tryint to get a grade by doing it what is the harm to anyone? God bless Tamara |

280 | Retain or forgive sins? | John 20:22 | Tamara Brewington | 204552
Dear Val, I am trying to see your point here... That the if a person believes and unites with Christ in hearing the word and are forgiven, having recieved the Holy Spirit the apostles perhaps agree with them in Christ? And that if a person does not receive the word then the apostles retain their sins because they have rejected Christ? This rather makes a lot of sense to me... I had in mind perhaps if someone went and said Jesus did His works by the power of the devil don't forgive them. Here is what was niggling around in my brain; we know that only Jesus has the power to forgive sins. So how is that He breathes the Holy Spirit on them and gives them the power to forgive or retain the sins of any? He did do it, but then that means He gave them power He has given to no one since. Catholics believe that the laying on of hands confers the power and the authority of the apostles, starting with Peter, upon whom I will build My church, and that these powers include the forgiveness or retaining of sins. And this is why they confess to the priests and not to Jesus. I believe the apostles may actually have been given the authority to decide as you point out if someone is saved and forgiven, or that Jesus actually gave them the power under His authority to forgive or retains sins, but only to them and not to any successors. I don't know what you think about this and realize that I should be doing some foot work on this in terms of demonstrating that the Bible states that only Jesus has the power to forgive sins. But why would Jesus give them the power to do something only He could do? It is not really necessary for anyone to see if anyone forgives them other than Jesus. But the fact remains Jesus told them to go do something very specific. God Bless, Tamara |
