241 | is gambling a sin?? | Matt 25:29 | John Reformed | 39254
Dear Lyn, I sure you mean well but, planning to go to the leadership of your church to inform them about sins among the members, seems a bad idea to me. Number One: You should have strong scriptual evidence. You would not want to be found guilty of trampling on the liberty we have in Christ. Number Two: Luke 17:3 "Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him." You go to your brother or sister. Number Three: I'm sure your Pastor knows that sin exists in the church. If he is human he probably sins every day just like you and just like me. Number Four: I don't believe that gambling isas bad as say....being a busybody. John |

Dear Cody, There "let God be true and everyman a liar". Why do you you ask "Is God a liar"?. Perhaps you should re-read my note to you. I don't understand your question. John |

243 | was Paul above Christ | Rom 1:1 | John Reformed | 38993
Dear Don Pedro, What does paul say about himself and His relationship to the Christ? Rom 1:1,5 "Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh, who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord". 244 | Shouldn't we do something? | Matthew | John Reformed | 38834
Dear Dave, The Father has always known everything that we will ever do, say, think or feel. (Act 15:18) "Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world". We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works. God has already facillitated everything necessary for our sanctification. He also has chosen us to be the means by which His will is done. He has commanded us to obey Him out of our love for Christ. Do we obey Him perfectly? No. Does our sin upset His plan? No. Should we repent and confess our sin, asking for His grace to follow His commands? Yes. Rom 8:28 "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. Grace and Peace Cody, John |

245 | Hebrews 6:6 explained | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 38557
Dear lonely blue, You have asked a very good question. You will probably recieve a variety of answers. After all is said and done, it will be the Holy Spirit who will lead you to the truth through your own study of His Word. Having said that, I would be happy to share with you my understanding. First of all, God never, ever contradicts Himself. If we read two verses that seem to contradict each other, you can rely on the fact that it arises from our ignorance, not an error in God's Word. A sermon by C.H. Spurgeon, a man greatly used by God, was a great help to me on this question. (You can find it at www.spurgeon.org). The Bible teaches that once we have become a part of the Body of Christ through faith in Jesus, we are covered with His righteousness. We are released from the curse of the law and are saved because of Christ's death on the cross. He died in our place. As Christians we serve Him out of love. He is the One who works within us to bring us closer to him. Therefore, our salvation is in His hands, not ours and because He never fails we can be secure in Him. I beleive what Paul is saying is that, it is impossible for a christian to fall away completely from Christ because if he did, it would be impossible for him to be saved a second time. When Jesus died on the cross, He said it is finished. Christ will never be crucified a 2nd time. Trust in Christ alone and place no confidence in your own ability. I have found great freedom and great joy by looking unto Him. You may even have to change your screename to Loved1! God Bless you, John |

246 | What does the NT say about suicide? | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 38089
Dear Rachel, I can't think of a specific verse that addresses suicide directly. However, it should be apparent to anyone who reads the NT that suicide is a sin. Heb 11:6 "And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. When trials assail us and all looks hopeless is a holy time for a christian. It means God is refining us like a silversmith who heats up the silver until all the impurities come to the suface. He then skims them off the top and the silver is made purer. It can be very painful. But the good Lord knows what is best for us and we must trust Him if we would be worthy of bearing His name. Remember, Christ is the author and finisher of our faith. Tell your friend or whoever it may be that promted you to ask this disturbing question, to find God's promises to His children and to cling to them as a drowning person clings to a life preserver. Gods word never fails. It will keep us all afloat til we reach that "Golden Shore". But we are to arrive at the time He has provided. I pray the Holy Spirit will use my poor words to comfort and stregnthen any one considering such an unworthy act. We are soldiers in the service of our King. Not cowards who flee the battlefield. God Bless you Rachel, Brother John |

247 | memories and forgiveness | Is 38:17 | John Reformed | 37466
Dear Rmhall, I doubt if there is one christian whose face does not blush with shame, when they think on past sins. Our response to such feelings of regret should cause us to look to Christ, the object of our faith. If we look inside ourselves we will never find the righteosnness we seek. Look to Jesus. He is all the righteouness we need. We are in Christ, which means when the Father looks upon His child he sees Jesus. He has provided us with a robe of righteousness. Remembrance of our sins should serve to bring forth praise to our blessed Saviour for the things He has done. God Bless, Brother John |

Dear Angel1, It would be interesting to determine, whether or not Einstien (independently and by by means of scientific inquiry), came to the same conclusion as Soloman. But, the more important question (at least itseems to me)is: What does this passage teach concerning the nature of God Himself? What is your understanding of the soverign rule of God over His creation? God Bless Angel1, Brother John |

249 | Speaking in tongues...not saved? | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 36376
Dear Nedra, The idea that we are saved by anything other than God's grace is wrong, wrong, wrong. Your friend is being seriously misled. Read Galatians. Eph 2:8,9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast." Acts 16:31 "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved". I don't see any mention of tongues, or baptism for that matter, in these or any other verse in scripture. Study His Word for yourself and do not rely on the teaching of mere men alone! God Bless Nedra, Brother John |

250 | How do I deal with Hatred toward God? | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 36361
Dear Gnuhart, Your friend is probably just more honest than most unsaved people. The world in it's fallen condition is at war against God and they hate Him for who He is. They want no part of a God that demands absolute obedience to His law. The fact that He holds their lives in His hand, drives them into fits of fury. We all have been guilty of hating God at sometime or other. He is no different from any other person whith whom you may proclaim the Gospel of Christ. Reread the first 3 chapters of Romans, it will give you an exact profile of those who need to hear the Good News. That having been said, it is obvious that some folks are easier to talk to than others. Some will be willing to listen, because they are polite. Others just enjoy winning arguemets. And there are those who claim they already love god (the god of their own creative imaginations). But as you know Christians cannot be too choosey in the types of people to whom we share the Gospel. However, God does expect us to use the brains He gave us, before we open our mouths: Matt 10:16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves. I for one am relieved that the task of bringing lost souls to Christ is that of the Holy Spirit. We're just the instruments He uses. I pray He will use you greatly in His service. 251 | unconfessed sin - loss of salvation? | 1 John 5:13 | John Reformed | 36215
Dear Ranaymarie, I would take that book and throw it in the deepest pit I could find. A person in Christ is covered by His own perfect Righteousness so that the sins we commit are not reckoned to our account. Read Romans 7. If you take the advise of some people, you will spend your life questioning your salvation. I know because, that is what I did for many years. There are many formulas and prescriptions on the market that claim to cure your spiritual ills. Most of the ones I've seen are bunk. What we Christians rely on first and foremost is God's remedy for sin sick souls: The Holy Bible! I'm sure you know that, but it never hurts to be reminded from time to time. What I hope, by God's Grace, is to share some scripture with you which has comforted and brought light to chase away my dark thoughts. Eph 2:8 "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God". God, for no other reason but His good pleasure, gave me the most wonderful gift anyone could hope for. Eternal Life!!! Not only did I not deserve this gift; But if His Justice was demanded of me my sentence would have been eternal death. God says that the way we recieve this gift is through faith. I was dead in my sins. Where was I to find this precious means of salvation? After all I had done evil things and God had also said: Matt 12:35 "The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil". Woe is me! How then am I to be saved? Praise God! the gift of grace God gave me was the faith I lacked! Ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten your understanding and reread Eph 2: 8,9 again. Feed on the scriptures, drink in the Gospel of our Glorious Saviour and do so diligently and faithfully. I believe you will find When God gives a gift, He never will take it back. Godly men and women may be helpful in pointing you in the right direction and in helping you to avoid pitfalls and errors in interpretation but You need no man to teach you, you have God Himself as your Teacher. God Bless Ranaymarie |

252 | Why can God kill when he tells us not to | Bible general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 36008
Dear TBTG, The short answer is because He is God and we are not. I know that sounds like a wisecrack answer, but if you don't believe me (who could blame you), this is what the Scripture says (and we better all believe it): Dan 4:35 "All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, But He does according to His will in the host of heaven And among the inhabitants of earth; And no one can ward off His hand or say to Him, 'What have You done?. Is God unfair? Rom 9:14,15: What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be! For He says to Moses, "I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION." Some one may ask, what gives God the right to even say such things? Rev 4:11 "Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created." God is Holy, Just, Merciful, Allwise, Allmighty, Allknowing, Omnipresent and works all things all things according to the cousel of His own immutable and righteous will. We are a sinful, wicked race of people and are in no position to question God Almighty. Although even christians (myself included) do so on a daily basis. Your Friend, John |

253 | Does God bring calamity to redeticate ya | Jonah | John Reformed | 35990
Dear Peggling, I don't think we always can tell why God is doing what he does in our lives. But if you are His, You need not be anxious. Rom 8:28 "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose". If you feel conviction over sin, thank God for that conviction Confess it before God and you will forgiven. 1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". Your Brother in Christ, John |

254 | is God the father of everyone ? | Gen 1:27 | John Reformed | 35984
Dear Jajoje, I do not believe that the bible teaches "the universal Fatherhood of God". Jesus told the Pharisees (John 8:44) "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father". To the best of my knowledge, the Old Testament never refers to the Jews as the sons of God, they are called by God Himself as the sons of Israel. Ex 3:15 "God, furthermore, said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you". Have you been helped? Your Brother, John |

255 | What does men in Eph. 4:8 mean? | Eph 4:8 | John Reformed | 35981
Dear Tuli, Eph 4:8 Therefore it says, "WHEN HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVE A HOST OF CAPTIVES, AND HE GAVE GIFTS TO MEN." "Man" is used in the Bible (unless it is referring to a particular person), means "mankind", men and women alike. Given the context the natural meaning of "men" means not "Mankind" in general but that portion of man kind that was the recipients of the grace spoken of in v.7. If you agree with my interpretation, we can proceed in searching the Scripture to find out if God has given women leadership roles in His Church. God Bless Tuli (Is your name an acronym?), John Adams |

256 | Why do we disagree? | 1 Thessalonians | John Reformed | 35776
Dear Heir of God, Jesus said that only the Father knew the time of Christ's return. Mark 13:32 "But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone". A word of caution. It is not a good to speculate about things when God Himself has closed His own mouth about them. That kind of activity has spead false doctrine thoughout the world. On the other hand it pleases God when His Children search what He has proclaimed in the Bible. But an understanding of the deep things of God, requires diligent and faithful study, not just short bursts of enthusiasm. Most importantly, we must rely on the Holy Spirit to enlighten our us. Even among the greatest of saints their are differing opinions. But that does not excuse any of us from seeking the truth for ourselves, for God has commanded us to search the Scritures, and that is all the reason we need. I hope I've helped a bit. Yours is a question that does not have a simple answer! Your Brother in Christ John Reformed |

257 | do you have Strongs | 1 Thessalonians | John Reformed | 35772
Dear Good Gurl, Strong's Concordance is a reference book. It is for people who do not know Hebrew or Greek. Say that you are reading the Bible and you want to check out the english translation of the word "life". You could look up "life" in Strong's and find what the Hebrew word for life is, and also you may find out if that Hebrew word has other meanings in addition to "life" May The Lord Bless You, John Reformed |

258 | Is Limited Atonement Bibical? | NT general Archive 1 | John Reformed | 35151
Dear Brother Zacht, As you have probably noticed, I have been posting the majority of my resooses to Tim Moran. In no way was this meant to be a slight to you. I am a "newbie" to the forum and I hope you will chalk up my apparent discourtesy to my ignorance of proper protocal. I am very grateful that you posed this question for it has proved to be a tremendous benefit to me personally. In my attempt to defend the scriptual basis of Limited Atonement, I discovered holes in my own understanding of it. If it appears as if I have shifted ground somewhat from my earlier posts on the topic, it is because I was made aware of my mistakes and have been trying to discover the truth and praying for the enlightenment that Christ has promised us: John 8:32 "and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free." God bless you bother Zacht, John "John Refomed" Adams |

259 | Having problems with my faith. | Genesis | John Reformed | 34375
Dear Chyna, I certainly can empathise with your feeling about animals. I love animals and I'm sure most Christians do as well. After all The God we love made them. Animals' along with the rest of Gods creation, are a remarkable testimony to their Creator's marvelous power, wisdom and kindness. I believe God made them as part of the blessing He gave Adam and Eve. Animals were meant to bring joy to our first parents. Tragically Adam and Eve sinned against God and, not only Adam and Eve but the entire Creation fell under the curse of sin. We cannot blame God for the consequences of a crime man committed. The bible says that the whole of creation is groaning under the burden of that single act of rebellion. Not all things in the Bible are equally easy to understand or accept. Over my years as a Christian there have been many things that disturbed and puzzled me concerning the way in which God rules His Creation. Many of those thorny questions have been answered, Praise God, but not all. Without faith it is impossible to please God. I wonder if I had perfect understanding of all of God's works, what would I need Faith for? Many times in stuggling with difficult teaching in scripture, I find myself in the roll of a prosecuter questioning God on why He did this and why He did that. Sometimes it seems to me that God just is'nt fair! Chyna, you and I are not alone in this. All of us question God's actions from time to time. The problem is that at times like that we are guilty of putting God in the dock and accusing Him of wickedness. We forget that everything God does is perfect and pure and holy and righteous, it is us who are imperfect and impure and wicked. When God restores me to my senses I remember that he said "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and do not lean on your own understanding". We must pray and be good students of His word and also do as you have don e, bravely confessing to your brothers and sisters in Christ your doubts and fears. If my answer to your question has helped you to resolve any of these difficulties, let me know and we will praise Him together. God bless you Chyna with grace and peace |
