Hi Doc, Well said, and a good reminder, as to who is really watching. Our Father doesn't miss (anything), though we may fool others. This has been a temptation for me, as I believe, most (honest) humans, will admit. Thanks Doc. God bless. John |

2264 | Whose "repentance" in Heb 12:17. | Bible general Archive 3 | stjohn | 185925
Hello thenoel... It was not Esau that was repenting, nor could it refire to God. Esau was seaking Isaacs repentance. Repentence in this case refers to just changing ones mind. And Esau had no realasionship with God, so he had no desire to repent. look at this please. And you will see were Esau wept for Iaascs repentance, after Jacob had stolen his blessing. Gen 27:34 When Esau heard the words of his father, he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry, and said to his father, "Bless me, even me also, O my father!" Gen 27:36 Then he said, "Is he not rightly named Jacob, for he has supplanted me these two times? He took away my birthright, and behold, now he has taken away my blessing." And he said, "Have you not reserved a blessing for me?" Gen 27:38 Esau said to his father, "Do you have only one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father." So Esau lifted his voice and wept. Me, me, my, me, me, my, my, me! Sounds like the ramblings and whining of a spoiled brat! don't you think? And besides not only did Isaac not believe God. But Jacob evidently didn't believe God, and by the way neither did Rebekah believe God. The whole family was suffering from theodisfuntionalism! I know thats probably not a word but I had fun. How can we reasonably say, that Easu, even had any Idea what was on God's mind. The guy couldn't buy a clue! God was the last thing on that old boys mind. So, my friend I would have to say that; Easu most defiantly 'was,' seeking Isaac's repentance. You might want to read the whole story in Gen 27 Its a good one. God bless. John |

2265 | Scardy Priests | Mark 11:18 | stjohn | 185921
Hello thenoel, Greetings! I think your first two are good, He certainly displayed power in clearing the temple, and his teaching could not be refuted, as He was perfect in His teaching, But also, the priests enjoyed there position as rulers of the people, and Jesus was a threat to that, as the people were not only astonished at His teaching, but many had seen and or heard of His many other great works as well. They wanted to get rid of of Him also because of the evil in their hearts. They were bent on power and greed. I hope this helps you. God bless. John |

2267 | eph 1:4-5 what is predestination, chosen | Bible general Archive 3 | stjohn | 185914
Hello Edwin! Greetings! I can see your point, and it is well taken and I know what you mean. but there is sometimes a problem with the terms that we as Christians use. Conversion for example can be one of them. here are just three definitions given in the dictionary. 1. the act or process of converting; state of being converted. 2. change in character, form, or function. 3. spiritual change from sinfulness to righteousness. Some use this term to mean the same thing as being born again, and this is understandable. And being born again, is certainly a one tine shot, if you please. But lets look at this please, if you will. And, I'm not debating your your inference, I'm just trying to come to an understanding of terms. Although we know that we are born once in the Spirt, there is as we know an ongoing process of sanctification, and looking at the definition of conversion, this can certainly be construed as the same as sanctification, i,e. the ongoing process i.e. we are being transformed/converted/sanctified. to the image of Christ. I hope this can bring us to a unification of terms. Again, I am not disagreeing with inference, just definitions. thank you brother. God bless. John |

Hello New.... monergism would seem to cancel out synergism. I would be interested in seeing Scripture that supports your inference. God bless. John |

2272 | Hell! | Matt 8:12 | stjohn | 185848
And thank you mae, although it does seem to be a contradiction i.e. eternal fire/outer darkness. I believe that the written word perhaps cannot really describe what hell really is, so I would think that it is suggesting, perhaps something even worse. Just my opinion. God bless. John |

Thanks brother Hobbs! I Just got home to your post, And all I can say is, isn't he a wonderful savior? I don't get it ether brother, when I look back at the old sinful retch that God pulled out of the pig pen. And I remember that first sweet fellowship with Him, I cast my eyes to heaven and said. "Me?" And that silent voice said. " Yes my son, I love you." God bless :-) John |

2274 | eph 1:4-5 what is predestination, chosen | Bible general Archive 3 | stjohn | 185826
Thank you Apollos, Good questions all of them, hear is something else to look at. I'm not saying you need to you seem to have a very good understanding of scripture. but look at this please. Josh 6:25 However, Rahab the harlot and her father's household and all she had, Joshua spared; and she has lived in the midst of Israel to this day, for she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho. Heb 11:31 By faith Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she had welcomed the spies in peace. James 2:25 In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? And, we can see as humans, God's work in creation by way of general revelation, i.e. The heavens declare His glory! Maybe for some that is enough? God and His Great Mercy? I don't have the answer for sure. I know this tough, I'd rather be standing before The almighty God. Never having heard the Word, then someone that did and did nothing about it. God bless. John |

Amen brother Apollos! I have thought About this too. The saints of the old Testament were obviously saved, without knowing Jesus, but they did have the Gospel. i.e. The knowledge of the coming of the Kinsman redeemer spoken of by God, way back in Genesis. Does that help any? God bless. John |

A hearty thank you BradK!! And may I say that I really enjoy having discussions with you, and appreciate your input to the forum. I have learned much from reading your posts! And can fully understand your scrutiny of novel aproches to interpiting scripture 1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. Bless you brother. John |
