Answer Part #3 These I believe to be the O.T. Saints (personal belief)THE VERY NEXT WORDS ARE THESE Rev 14 -1 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. 2And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth. 4These are those who did not defile themselves with women, for they kept themselves pure. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were purchased from among men and offered as firstfruits to God and the Lamb. 5No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless. ----After this Son of Man harvests the earth - the tabernacle of the Testimony is opened - Out of the temple came the seven angels with the seven plagues and the were given seven golden bowls filled with the wrath of God. Revelation 16 - the six bowls of God's judgement is poured out upon mankind and the earth and after the 7th bowl is emptied: 17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, "It is done!" 18 Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since man has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake. 19 The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20 Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found. 21 From the sky huge hailstones of about a hundred pounds each fell upon men. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible. Revelation 17 - The woman and the beast v.5 This title was written on her forehead: MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. Rev 18 - Fall of Babylon Rev 19 - Meanwhile at the Lamb's Wedding Supper... the saints are praising and worshipping God. v.9 Then the angel said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!' " And he added, "These are the true words of God." The appears The King of Kings! 11 I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Rev 20 – Satan is bound and locked in the abyss - 1 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. ----Then the Millenium Reign and the dead will be judged… those who came to Christ through the great tribulation. --Satan is released and defeated - --The remaining dead will be judged This is the order in which I feel these things will happen just as it is written -khuck |

Answer Part #2 Rev 10 - After the 6th trumpet had been sounded an angel appeared with a small scroll. Before the 7th trumpet was blown: 6 And he (the angel) swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, "There will be no more delay! 7 But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets." 8 Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me once more: "Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land." 9 So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, "Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey." 10 I took the little scroll from the angel's hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. 11Then I was told, "You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings." Rev 11 - The 2 witnesses appear and after that the 7th trupmet is blown. 15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever." 16 And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying: "We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was, because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign. 18 The nations were angry; and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your saints and those who reverence your name, both small and great--and for destroying those who destroy the earth." 19 Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a great hailstorm. Rev 12 - The Woman and the Dragon (note the Church has overcome) 10 Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. 11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. 12 Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short." Rev 13 -7 He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. 8 All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast--all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world. 16 He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, 17so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name. 18 This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666. to be continued in 3 post –khuck |

Answer Part #1 First you ask if I believed the following... which I take to mean the verses that you quoted. (I belief every Word that proceeds from God's Mouth) I believe the final chapter of the Bible concerning end time events to come in order as John wrote them. I will show you in this 3 part answer why, I believe that the Church will be saved from the Great Tribulation. As far as satan's wrath vs. God's wrath question, I believe these signs after the scrolls, trumpets and golden bowls to be God's righteous judgements and wrath. Starting at Rev. Chapter 6 reading through to Chapter 20 notice that John relays the order in which things will happen by using the words, "And then I Saw..." also he numbers events (ie. 7 scrolls opened by the Lamb, 7 trumpets blown by 7 angels, and the bowls of God's wrath) An event happens after each thing is done, after each scroll is opened one by one... next as each trumpet is sounded one by one and then after the golden bowls of "GOD'S WRATH" are poured out. Rev 6 -The Lamb opens 6 of 7 scrolls Rev 7 -Before the 7th seal is opened these 2 events take place, 144,000 are sealed 1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree. 2Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: 3"Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God." 4Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel. ---And next appearing before the throne are those who have washed the robes in the blood of the Lamb. (Justified and found faultless by no doing of their own, but by their acceptance of the Free gift of salvation and redemption through the blood sacrifice of the Lamb) "The Church is invited to the Wedding Supper as the Bride" 9 After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their ands. 10 And they cried out in a loud voice: Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb."11 All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying: "Amen! Praise and glory and wisdom and thanks and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!" 13Then one of the elders asked me, "These in white robes--who are they, and where did they come from?" 14 I answered, "Sir, you know." 15 And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore, "they are before the Throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. 16 Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat. 17 For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." Rev 8-9 ---After the sealing of the 144,000 and the Church are securely before His throne, now the Lamb opens the seal of the 7th scroll. After about 30 minutes of silence the angels with the seven trumpets appear and one angel with a golden censer. Next the angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne. The smoke of the incense, together with the prayers of the saints, went up before God from the angel's hand. Then the angel took the censer, filled it with fire from the altar, and hurled it on the earth; and there came peals of thunder, rumblings, flashes of lightning and an earthquake. Then natural disasters follow each of the first 6 trumpets sounded. To be continued in 2nd post. –khuck |

224 | Exhorting | 1 Cor 11:18 | khuck | 102801
Having been a party to the post that ultimately generated what you are now posting here, I will respond. 1st because I believe that no question that can be answered should be left behind, no matter how others will perceive the intentions of the writer or those who attempt to respond. First I would say that there are no unforgivable mistakes. We either choose to forgive or not. And as for mutual feelings of missing the forum and the forum missing you, of that I can't really know... I am new here. (I feel oftentimes like someone who stumbled on a neighbors wonderful backyard and garden, then making myself at home, took the liberty to just jump into the swimming pool) But having kept up with the entire thread, I see where there was a joke poking fun at himself that was posted by a contributor to this thread. The joke was innocently misunderstood by you, and you took it and ran with it, which has brought us here. Not to laugh at you ar the poster of: "Lord knows I need what little I have left." But if you have not realized it by now... the little left of which he spoke... was his hair. LOL I forgive your mistake, and I too have learned a great lesson from this entire misunderstanding. When responders ask, "Can you elaborate"?, "What exactly are you trying to ask?" or "Please explain the reason behind your query?" These are oftentimes valid, with no malice or insult intended. We all should probably get in the habit of asking, "What do you mean by....?" when it is not clear. This IMHO is a great lesson learned. -khuck |

225 | How do you deal with insults? | 2 Cor 12:10 | khuck | 102798
Though my previous post was rather lengthy I would sum it up with the following suggestion for how people can deal with hurt from other Christians. Insults can be very hurtful when they come from within the ranks the Body of believers. Yet it is likely that most of us would not abandon of familys or jobs due to such an insult. When my immediate family members insult me, I don't think to myself, "I am packing my bags, my husband and children are mean." I may be hurting but because my heart and mind are on the bigger picture, I choose to stay and work on the circumstance. (no matter who is wrong) If a patron comes into my salon and they hate their hairstyle, and insult our efforts, I do not close the business. My heart and mind are on the bigger picture. (LIVELIHOOD -LOL) Not only my livelihood but also that of the employees. I work to resolve the complaint to the patron's satisfaction. (no matter who is wrong) Therefore I guess my initial point was that nothing is resolved when we as Christians have hurt one another. Waiting for an apology, bolting from the Church or expelling another true Believer from the assembly will not resolve the conflict. (There is a bigger picture) If Jesus had waited around for an apology from those who hurled verbal insults at Him, or those who criticized His doctrine... we would still be waiting for Him to go to calvary and there would be no ransom paid for our transgressions. But God saw fit to take all that which Jesus endured and He brought it together for the good of mankind, even the whole world. I suggest keeping our eye on Him to the best of our ability in Him. We are more than conquerors, In Christ. Romans 8 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will. 28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Don't you just Love Him? -khuck |

226 | Did OT saints go to heaven? | Dan 12:2 | khuck | 102794
I did not answer #2. Who will be at the Millenium. But this is my understanding and belief. The Word says that those who came through the tribulation who were martyrs and those who did not except the mark of the beast. (those who had not been raptured) The Church (those who have died in Christ and those remain alive) will have been caught up to meet Him in the air before the tribulation. Therefore all of the saints will live under the reign of the Lord during the Millenium. Rev 20 4 I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony for Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his image and had not received his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection. The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years. There are many beliefs on this passage, but I have given you mine here. - khuck |

227 | How does one respond to this? | John | khuck | 102773
I would have to comprehend before I could attempt a response.(I guess you can imagine my SAT scores) LOL contumelious questions, (insolent questions) Insolence - ([adj] unrestrained by convention or propriety; "an audacious trick to pull"; "a barefaced hypocrite";"brazen arrogance"; [adj] marked by casual disrespect; "a flip answer to serious question"; " obsequious (bootlicking, fawning, insincere, servile, sycophantic, toadyish) obsequious - [adj] attentive in an ingratiating or servile manner; [adj] attempting to win favor from influential people by flattery immolations - [n] killing or offering as a sacrifice 1. The act of immolating, or the state of being immolated, or sacrificed. --Sir. T. Browne. 2. That which is immolated; a sacrifice. Now that I have found out what all of these words mean... I will ponder the question. I posted the definitions because I am positive that I am not the only one who had an inquiring mind as to the meanings... then again I have been known to be the only doofus left standing. LOL I really love this forum -khuck |

228 | "promise or Promise?" | Matt 28:19 | khuck | 102772
I believe that Jesus is instructing His disciples on one pending event in all three verses: The Promise of the Holy Spirit... The Day of Pentecost In Acts 1:4 it could very well read "the Promise" in the place of "the Holy Spirit" and still have the same meaning (in my understanding.) Or you could replace "the Promise of My Father" with "the Holy Spirit of My Father" and not lose the meaning and context of the other two verses(IMHO). Acts 1 4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for "the Promise of the Father", "which," He said, "you have heard from Me; 8 But you shall receive power when "the Holy Spirit" has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Luke 24 49 Behold, I send the "Promise of My Father" upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high." What the Father promised was to reconcile man unto Himself through the Sacrifice of Jesus. This could only take place through His Holy Spirit. note: God deals with us through the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:16). We deal with God through Jesus (John 14:13 and Hebrews 4:16). When we exist on the fleshly level, we are ruled by our bodies, and our souls and spirits are in second and third place. When we are born again, our spirits are moved to the dominant position and the Holy Spirit takes control. He helps us to conform to the image of Christ. In order for our salvation to be fulfilled we must have regeneration via The Holy Spirit, It is through Him working in us we have the Power to stand in Christ. My thoughts on the subject is that after the Cross and Resurrection, Pentecost was the most pivotal event to transpire in regards to reconciling man to God. Just a few of my views on the matter -khuck |

229 | Did OT saints go to heaven? | Dan 12:2 | khuck | 102770
#1. the Old Testament, we find frequent references to "sheol" (the world of departed spirits) as the abode of all the dead (Deut. 32:22). Also that a day will come when the bodies of all who are in sheol will be resurrected: some to "everlasting life" but others to "everlasting contempt" (Dan. 12:2). The common belief of godly rabbis during the intertestamental era that sheol was divided into two sections is reflected in the New Testament, which refers to the abode of the righteous as "Paradise" (Lk. 23:43) or "Abraham's bosom" (Lk. 16:22), and the abode of the unrighteous as "Hades" (Lk. 16:23). After Christ's resurrection, it appears that those who resided in Paradise were ushered into the presence of God in heaven where they await the future resurrection of their bodies. But those who are in Hades await a resurrection to a different destination-- hell. #2 (not answered) #3 Non-believers go to hades when they die. Hell the firey lake comes at final judgement. Rev 20 11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. -khuck |

230 | How do you deal with insults? | 2 Cor 12:10 | khuck | 102768
There were 2 members of our church who used to constantly insult my clothing. LOL Through prayer and patience, God actually taught me, that by keeping my eyes on Him, and not being steamed and complaining about their little barbs, he would give me what to say. (And believe you me... they used to get me hot under the collar!) One Sunday we were preparing to go to downtown Los Angeles, to feed the homeless and give them clothing. One of them looked at me and commented, "Sister Huck, girl how are you dressed?" The other chimed in with, "God called us to feed the homeless, not look like them." My heart and mind being in the right place... I just blurted out, "Oh come now girls, God is interested in the condition of my heart and not my clothes." And the clothing insults ceased. ... and might I add that the 3 of us are very close now. I noticed when I let insults from members of the church get me angry, I am not able to overcome the problem. But when I allow God to have the reins of my heart and mind... I always have the words to quench the fire. Here is a final more serious situation I endured. My mother who was very well loved and an active teacher in the church (don't get me wrong she was not perfect or anything) was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1997. Many of the saints prayed for her recovery and she did quite well through 1998. In May of 1999 on Mother's Day, she took a turn for the worse. The Pastor's wife who was one of Mama's closest friends took up the cause to pray for her healing. (through prayer groups and personal prayer) She would call me often and ask if we were praying for and with Mama. I told her we were. Mama died on the 2nd of June 1999 in my arms. When I called to inform the Pastor and his wife, she said our family should have prayed with more faith. (She was wrought with tears and grief) She accused our family of not having the faith to move God to heal my mother. I knew she was just grieving and looking to vent. The insult came when the Pastor called me 3 days before Mama's funeral, and said, "You all really need to work on your faith. If there had been more faith in your prayers, your mother would have been healed. (That really hurt me) I prayed about it, I did not want to go to the funeral mad as a hatter, plus Mama's final arrangements were my responsibility so I already had enough on my mind. When I spoke at Mama's funeral, God brought to my heart the words she shared with me before she passed into the arms of Jesus. I first reminded them of who we were in Christ. And I told them that my mother did not want you all to feel sorry for our loss or her death. Our loss is truly her gain. (as the Apostle Paul taught) then I turned to the pulpit and said; some of you think our faith was not strong enough to move the Lord to heal her... but my mother wanted you all to know in the event she should die, your prayers had been answered, God has given her the HIGHEST HEALING, she is with HIM forevermore. The next day the Pastor called me and apologized for the remarks that were made, going as far as to admit, that he'd taken his eyes off of the infinate goal of the Believer... ETERNAL LIFE WITH CHRIST! And for a brief moment he was looking at the finite world. We are closer than ever these days, the next year the day after the first anniversary of Mama's passing, his wife died of a massive stroke, my mother's words helped him and his family to see the eternal value of their loss. Take the insults to Jesus, He really understands and knows how to make it of greater value to all concerned. -khuck |

233 | PROVE ME: God's challenge to tithers | Bible general Archive 2 | khuck | 102757
EdB, (Good try) The reverse of what I wrote would be, "If we cheat and rob our brothers, how can we say we love God." You have taken all that I said out of context and removed the very point of the subject: Are Christians commanded to tithe or is tithing a Rabbinical Law? I used the scripture that you quoted in it's context to show that Jesus was in fact speaking to the teachers of the Law and the pharisees, regarding their unjust, stingy and dishonest conduct concerning that same law. The principle I stated was putting God first in all things. Therefore before, I write that check, I acknowledge it as a gift from Him to me and I seek His for guidance as to giving it. I never mentioned whether I was afraid to trust God with my funds or not. LOL. That's between Him and me as to how I have used what He has blessed me with and it is not a matter of Law. Paul in 2 Corinthians 9:7, "So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver." -khuck |

234 | Are you onced saved always saved? | John | khuck | 102755
Now on to Judas. You wrote: The perfect example of how this doctrine is false is Judas Iscariot. He believed in Jesus Christ, walked with Him, was one of the Twelve and was given the same powers from Him as the others. Yet what Christian believes that Judas Iscariot went to Heaven? You place a lot of importance on Judas' having been in His presence and receiving powers along with the other eleven disciples (you place same area of importance on satan, now that I think on it) Mark 6:7 Jesus sent them out and gave them authority over unclean spirits. He did not give them and "powers". As a matter of fact they drove out demons and healed the sick. The power of the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost and Judas had been long since dead. The evil of his nature gradually unfolded itself till "Satan entered into him" (John 13:27), and he betrayed our Lord (18:3). Afterwards he owned his sin with "an exceeding bitter cry," and cast the money he had received as the wages of his iniquity down on the floor of the sanctuary, and "departed and went and hanged himself" (Matt. 27:5). He perished in his guilt, and "went unto his own place" (Acts 1:25).Further note how Acts says Judas fell by SIN (he was not FORCED by Satan, who had entered into him; he was personally ACCOUNTABLE for his actions): Act 1:25 "That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place." When a Christian receives Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit enters that Christian's body, soul and spirit. God has claimed that person for His own and as a result, demons cannot occupy the same place as the Holy Spirit. Satan knows this and that is why he tries so hard to get to people first and have his demons or demonic influence control or affect that person. Judas saw the miracles (Luke 6); he attended prayer meetings of Jesus with his other disciples (John 18:2). He had a "ministry" (Acts 1:17) and place of responsibility among the believers (John 13:29). He was trusted by the other believers - enough to carry the bag of money (John 13:29). Apparently Judas thought - or at least attempted to appear - that he was a believer ("manifest thyself unto us"), as opposed to being one of those in the world: John 14:22 "Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?" Judas' downfall was money - the "thirty pieces of silver" - ironically, the very ministry with which he was entrusted. Regarding the state of Judas' soul: During the time he seemed to be following Jesus, except that when the woman anointed Jesus with expensive perfume (John 12), Judas was outraged, saying the money should have been given to the poor. It says, "He did not say this because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put in it." (vs.6) Judas was with the flock, but not of it. -khuck |

235 | Are you onced saved always saved? | John | khuck | 102744
My 2nd response: Judas and satan are the best examples that you could find to prove my beliefs to be demonic? (that in and of itself makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up) But ok I will use what you have offered. You said and I quote, "Another good example is Lucifer (Satan) - abided in Heaven, knew God Himself, lived with God Himself yet he was not "saved" when given the opportunity..." If I am to accept this statement, then the operative word in your quote would be "OPPORTUNITY" which God gave satan. Opportunities are often passed over and not accepted. In satan's case that then would be true. satan did not want to be WITH God.... he wanted to BE God. Scripure identifies him as God's enemy and the adversary who is constantly accusing God's people, often unjustly. The word Satan Means: adversary; accuser - When used as a proper name, the Hebrew word translated as "Satan" has the article "the adversary" (Job 1:6-12; 2:1-7) Devil -Greek: diabolos; Meaning: a slanderer The devil is the arch-enemy of man's spiritual interest (Job 1:6; Rev. 2:10; Zech. 3:1). He is "Beelzebub, the prince of the devils" (12:24). He is "the constant enemy of God, of Christ, of the divine kingdom, of the followers of Christ, and of all truth; full of falsehood and all malice, and exciting and seducing to evil in every possible way." You wrote: ...for he now resides in Hell as punishment for the sin of pride. Satan does not reside in hell for having been too proud (that is not sound doctrine) The truth is that satan is the prince of this world. Peter warns: Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 His power is very great in the world. He is a "roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour" (1 Pet. 5:8). Men are said to be "taken captive by him" (2 Tim. 2:26). Christians are warned against his "devices" (2 Cor. 2:11), and called on to "resist" him (James 4:7). Christ redeems his people from "him that had the power of death, that is, the devil" (Heb. 2:14). Satan has the "power of death," not as lord, but simply as executioner. I'd pretty much say from this information that satan willing blew the opportunity that you stated was afforded him. -khuck |

My first response: Junmeskie you say, "Salvation is not a "one time" event, but an ongoing process until "the end" (Matthew 10:22; 24:13; Mark 13:13)." Which would then make the cross worthless and Jesus' death a fruitless effort. He did not yell out from the cross, "It is almost over!" Christ said, "It is finished"(article) What is "It is finished"? (article) Literally translated the word tetelestai means, "It is finished." It is the perfect passive tense of the Greek vert, telos, which means the "end." The word occurs in John 19:28 and John 19:30 and these are the only two places in the New Testament where it occurs. In 19:28 it is translated, "After this, when Jesus knew that all things were now completed, in order that the scripture might be fulfilled, he said, 'I thirst.'" Two verse later, he utters the word himself: "Then when he received the sour wine, Jesus said, 'It is finished', and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." The word tetelestai was also written on business documents or receipts in New Testiment times to show indicating that a bill had been paid in full. So the word, tetelestai, as Jesus used the term meant, "the debt for sin has been fully paid!" This is exactly what the Lord cried out as He hung on the cross. The implications of this truth are truly profound. Paul says in...Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Sin incurs a huge debt – the debt of guilt, shame, judgment, but most of all, wrath. The wrath of God remains upon every sinner because that is what he has earned through his evil, un-repentant life. And the penalty is eternal because the sinner has offended an eternal being. So the payment of that sin must also be eternal. This clearly points out that only God can forgive sins. It was at the highest cost in the universe—God-Man, Jesus Christ. We saw that only God can forgive sins, but it is also true that only men can die. So, the Lord Jesus Christ, the infinite God-man, paid the price in full, so everyone who comes to Him by faith does not have to incur the judgment of God nor face God’s wrath. This is the ultimate sense of what it means to be saved. Salvation has to do ultimately with being rescued from the righteous wrath of God. So, Christ did for God to satisfy His righteous demand for judgment against sin. His precious sacrifice is credited to all those who believe in Him. They are justified before a Holy God, so that none of their "debts" appear on their "eternal credit statement." "IT" is the rightful penalty for our sins. The moment Christ said, "It is finished" we were reconciled to have a relationship with God. It signifies the completion of what Jesus Christ came to do on earth for us and for God. Remember, the Gospel is "the power of God unto salvation of everyone who believes!" (Roman 1:16) I am glad that I am saved eternally, no process needed here, I have a zero balance due. -khuck |

Shalor, This commentary may shed some light on the likely outcome of this oath. Such execrable vows as these were not unusual among the Jews, who, from their perverted traditions, challenged to themselves a right of punishing without any legal process, those whom they considered transgressors of the law; and in some cases, as in the case of one who had forsaken the law of Moses, they thought they were justified in killing them. They therefore made no scruple of acquainting the chief priests and elders with their conspiracy against the life of Paul, and applying for their collusion and support; who, being chiefly of the sect of the Sadducees, and the apostle's bitterest enemies, were so far from blaming them for it, that they gladly aided and abetted them in this mode of dispatching him. On its failure they soon afterwards determined to making a similar attempt. (ch. 2 25:2, 3.) If these were, in their bad way, conscientious men, they were under no necessity of perishing for hunger, when the providence of God had hindered them from accomplishing their vow; for their vows of abstinence from eating and drinking were as easy to loose as to bind, any of their wise men or Rabbis had power to absolve them, as Dr. Lightfoot has shown from the Talmud. Hoping this to be insightful. -khuck |

Ed, Jesus was speaking directly to the Pharisees (TEACHERS OF THE LAW) and admonishing them for their hypocrisy, because they were not honest in their dealings, and they imposed these Laws unjustly on the people (Jews). He was speaking concerning the Law and the fact that the Pharisees obsereved only the parts of the Laws that benefitted themselves. You noted Matthew 23 with in it's context Jesus is definately speaking to points of Law and not Grace or the Church. 13 "How terrible it will be for you teachers of RELIGIOUS LAW and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you won't let others enter the Kingdom of Heaven, and you won't go in yourselves. 14 Some manuscripts add How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! You shamelessly cheat widows out of their property, and then, to cover up the kind of people you really are, you make long prayers in public. Because of this, your punishment will be the greater. 15 Yes, how terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. For you cross land and sea to make one convert, and then you turn him into twice the son of hell as you yourselves are. 23 "How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest part of your income, tithe the mint, the dill, and the cumin. but you ignore the important things of the law – justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but you should not leave undone the more important things. ("But woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass by justice and the love of God. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone," Luke 11:42. They pinched off leaves from a mint plant to tithe, but then cheated and robbed their fellow men, Jesus says of these hypocrites. So the real principle behind tithing is putting God first in all things, not only in our possessions, but our conduct, especially in regard to how we treat others. If we say we love God and then cheat and rob our brothers, we're the same as the Pharisees -- hypocrites.) 24 Blind guides! You strain your water so you won't accidentally swallow a gnat; then you swallow a camel! 25 "How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! You are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy – full of greed and self-indulgence! 26 Blind Pharisees! First wash the inside of the cup, and then the outside will become clean, too. 27 "How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs – beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people's bones and all sorts of impurity. 28 You try to look like upright people outwardly, but inside your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness. 29 "How terrible it will be for you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you build tombs for the prophets your ancestors killed and decorate the graves of the godly people your ancestors destroyed. 30 Then you say, 'We never would have joined them in killing the prophets.' 31 "In saying that, you are accusing yourselves of being the descendants of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Go ahead. Finish what they started. 33 Snakes! Sons of vipers! How will you escape the judgment of hell? It really pays to put scripture in it's entire CONTEXT. Therefore Ed, I changed my mind, it is not the principle ... IT'S THE LAW. (Thank God that grace abounds) -khuck |
