Hi Michael! I had to go to http://www.shevetjewishmeditation.org/tishabav.shtml because Tish b'av added a whole new area to the question :) Very interesting indeed. Thank you. ***There are two aspects of Tish b'Av which suggest this meaning of the day. First, the day is considered a “moad”, which is a holiday--on such days we do not say Tachanun, the prayers of supplication and forgiveness. Second, there is the tradition that people wash their floors in the afternoon of the day, in expectation of the final redemption. It is passed down that the Messiah will be born on Tish b'Av, and thus bringing with him the redemption. The day, then, has an intrinsic meaning of transformation and hope, and can be seen as an opportunity to give birth to the messiah in each of us, that person who is unconditionally loving and recognizes the divine soul of every person.*** The only thing that I find ironic about this Jewish belief that the Messiah is going to be born on this day, is if they miscalculated initial coming, how can they possibly have the correct date? Dearest Makarios, Thank you so much! I did read the references that you posted and found both chapters of Joel to be very much in line with regathering Israel. And God's ability to save us. (although it seems mostly from ourselves (chuckle) Even after all of these years it is wonderful to me when I see the word confirm itself. The Feast of Trumpets has always been over my head (obviously) when put in regard to the Church. I do not know why I was told that it was a creation issue, but now I have a whole other area to study. I have a lot of questions when it comes to Judaism, and it's customs, because I oftentimes find them linking to Jesus. Thank you again for shedding Light... -Kathy |

LOL You among others have shown the me the encourging Love of Christ, that kept me from moving along with my tail between my legs. Hello Steve, That would fall into line with my response had I answered this question. It is just that sometimes I find myself praying to seek the Lord's guidance, and other times I jump in head first. I have no idea what is right or wrong, I think sometimes my human nature will cause me to act, and others I feel the greatest need to pray out a matter. Sometimes I feel guilty when I see an answer that I gave that was so far off the mark, and I will kick myself and think, I should have taken it to the Father or I should not have touched that one (grin) But enough of me... I am so glad that you answered this question with such sincerity. I just really wanted to know how others approach answering these post. Thank you so much Steve, Kathy |

Radioman Lovely and well put. I agree that whatever understanding and knowledge that we glean must be put into practice. I hope you will indulge me as I share some more of my thoughts. (please take no offense, I promise there is none intended) The Spirit that dwells in us will bring of to the full knowledge of God's Awesome love and divine grace. Rom 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Eph 3:14 For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. I do believe that understanding His love and then practically applying it by the power of Him dwelling with in us makes all things one in Him. Agreeing that we must be diligent in retaining what we have learned in scriptures, my assertion is that we must be careful to walk in it. Head knowledge has it's place no doubt, but I agree with many posters that it is the Loving relationship between the Father and His child that causes growth and maturity. And mind you this is only my opinion and belief, it is not to be taken in any other way. -Kathy |

Thank you Makarios, That was pretty complete. I often have a big explaining to do during December, because I have always contended that we are not celebrating His "birth date" but the fact that He came into the world. But I have never looked into the real probability that this date would be consistent with the Holy Conception of the Lord. Thank you for shedding great Light on this. (Please do not take this to be an argument, please don't) I have one more question. In September there is a Jewish Holy Day called the The Feast of Trumpets or Rosh Hashanah, I have not studied this in depth although I believe it to be the anniversary of the creation. I have often heard (having no opinion but now a great interest) that this day has much to do in accordance with the Christ and that many believe it has some regard to his return. Can I impose upon you to share any insight that you may have regarding this Feast or Holy Day? Please know that there is no malicious intent, just a healthy curiosity. Hi EdB :) I will leave you to your opinions of me, you are truly entitled to them. I am sorry that you have such a low opinion of me, but please do not feel sorry for me, I am a child of God, be happy for me. If I am all that you have stated, and yet a child of God, praise be unto the One who is able to heal whatever you believe to be my great defect. As I said the question was asked in pure earnest. I hope that the KHack was just a typo and not an attempt at an insult (I too can be lead to assumptions(smile). There maybe some who will respond "No, I do not" or "yes I often seek God's guidance first." I asked the question because I was about to respond to a post (my first) regarding the depression of someone's sister and there was a strong pull within me to pray and seek God's wisdom before I responded to the post. Having this experience, I was curious to know and therefore ask, if there were any posters that do this in practice? No subversive reasons were intended to stir up disharmony. I have never posed a question before now, so my probing questions is a moot point and this query has become bigger than the intent. I do not feign humility, I try to practice it in all things, in order that I do not offend anyone. Not to say that I am always successful, but the Lord knows that I do try. And please do not apologize for your opinion of me, whether you have misjudged me or not you have let your feelings be known, and that is alright with me. And I ain't mad at ya (smile) I sincerely hold no ill will towards you for it. And yet let His Peace that surpasses the understanding of mankind... abide with us! A true Believer in His Grace, (KHUCK) P.S. and if you search my posts, I did remark before all of this (what I view as misconceptions) that I would one day get up the nerve to post my little question. |

However secular history and to fulfill prophecy in Daniel suggests a Sept birth. His conception could very well have been in the later part of Dec. |

Dearest EdB... Please let me be the first say that both you and searcher should understand by now that I never imply or subtly come across, I am rather candid in my meanings. I told someone that one day soon I would have the nerve to post my question soon. I think I used the words have the audacity. That I posted well before Searcher's probing of the responses I made to stigmata and or sabbath. So since that was not the case I accept your apology. I often add (grin) (lol) or :) to a post, I am just one of those people who is not continuously solemn or serious. I have a great joy, and believe it or not... I can hardly stop smiling. I get so much joy when I think of Him. And I often find humor in people. I would not post something outside of a thread to take a jab at anyone. You have yet to see me hit anyone below the belt. I for one do not believe that God has no humor, after all He created me:) When I post to a thread I say in no uncertain terms what I mean. Contrary to his belief, I have nothing at all against Searcher. As a matter of fact I only took offense to him stating that I was against Christ, and I said as much, and that was that. But please believe me that I have never used nor would I, this forum as a weapon of revenge. I have no battles... they are all the Lord's. I don't even know if you are aware that on the subject of Searcher, I have given it to He who is able to bring peace to all things. I have vowed to hold my peace and let God handle the situation. I have not come to fight or debate. But to be light where God chooses. You say that Searcher and I are locked in a war of words... not my war... not my words (his war is with the one whose article I quoted). I only stated why I, Kathy believe as I, kathy do. Using resources that support my, kathy huck's belief. If anyone disagrees, I respect their right to do just that. But no one has the right to insinuate that they will correct my thinking nor I theirs. So my question was NOT directed to seacher, but to those who choose to post to this forum. It was not facetious or due to any unhappiness with peoples post LOL. I have never found myself to be unhappy with what people post. As in any human family, the new Christian is to "grow up". Our baptism is symbolic of the death of our former self - we are in Christ a new creature. As a "babe in Christ" (I Cor. 3:1, I Peter 2:2), the new Christian, embraced in the bosom of the church, embarks on a life-long learning curve that affects every aspect of life. Hence the admonition to Christians: "... not forsaking the assembling of yourselves together" (Hebrews 10:25). Are we a supportive family? Are we honest in our worship? Do we accept broken people or keep them at arms distance? Do we recognize that everyone has something to contribute? We must look for ways to integrate new people into the fellowship. Too many churches are "closed" to newcomers. The doors are open but the people don't feel they are wanted at all.Continuing Encouragement After we come together, what do we do? Hebrews 10:25 suggests "exhorting one another." We need each other. Separation kills. Take a glowing coal from the fire and lay it aside from the rest of the coals, and it will grow cold. Take a budding branch from a tree and lay it aside, and it will dry up and die. Take a child of God from the family of God where he or she is sustained by the fellowship of the church, and he or she will grow spiritually dead. A coal can be tossed back into the fire and a branch can be grafted back into the tree, but only the dying Christian can put himself or herself back into the life-giving fellowship of God's church. These are several referencethat I found to "family pew. Though I find these word no where in scripture. |

Here is the Coffman Commentary, I use it quite often because he oftentimes than not substantiate my own beliefs: 1 Corinthians 11:16 But if any man seemeth to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God. If any man seemeth to be contentious ... This was Paul's way of saying, "Look, we do not intend to argue this question endlessly; the whole matter is already solved by the type of behavior which marks God's churches everywhere." This is grounds for holding that in this whole passage it is decorous conduct with which Paul is concerned, since it touched on the all-important question of the proper submission of women to their husbands, and was also related to the prevailing opinion of the people in that community. This whole passage affirms the necessity for Christians to have a decent respect for the opinions of mankind, and not to flaunt social customs of any kind merely for the sake of being different. As McGarvey said, "One who follows Christ will find himself conspicuously different from the world, without practicing any tricks of singularity." QUESTIONS ON THE VERSES ABOVE If Paul meant "hair," why did he use the word "covered"? The answer is that in the vocabulary of the Old Testament "to uncover the head" was to shave off the hair. When Nadab and Abihu sinned (Leviticus 10:1), God commanded Aaron not to "uncover his head" in mourning at their death; and this meant not to cut off his hair (the customary sign of mourning). Job shaved his head when he learned his children were dead (Job 1:20). Many examples of this usage could be cited; but as Echols noted: "Wherever the expression "uncover the head" occurs in the Hebrew Old Testament, it means "remove the hair.'" The culture of that era as well as the environment at Corinth suggests that some of the Corinthian women (in the church) were violating decent rules of conduct, not by discarding the mantle (peribolaion) which there is no evidence that any of them were wearing, but by adopting the cropped hair of Aphrodite's priestesses. It is even likely that some of them had been converted and had neglected to change their hair styles. Furthermore, it must be evident to all who think about it that when Paul said in 1 Cor. 11:4 that a man praying or prophesying with his head "covered" dishonored his head, he simply COULD NOT have referred to any man's wrapping himself up in the type of mantle that was called a veil in those days. That type of veil (or mantle), as far as history reveals, was never worn by men in any circumstance. Therefore the fault Paul sought to correct in 1 Cor. 11:4 was not that of men veiling themselves like women, but that of sporting indecently long hair. Is there any word in this whole passage that unmistakably means the type of veil under consideration? Yes, the word (peribolaion) in 1 Cor. 11:15 refers to that type of covering; and this is the only word in the whole passage that does so; but this is also the verse where Paul said the Lord had given woman her hair "instead of" any such garment! What is Paul's subject in these verses? Whatever it was, it could not have been the type of veil or mantle that obscures the person of women, that having been mentioned only once. On the other hand HAIR is mentioned three times, "shaved" or "shorn" is mentioned four times; and, in this light, it appears certain that Paul's subject here was HAIR. One could not speak of a mantle's being shorn or shaved. How could this passage have been so long misunderstood? Echols' explanation is as good as any. He said: A clear understanding has been obscured by ambiguous English translations, as well as by established custom. There can be little doubt that the custom itself derived largely from Roman Catholic practice during the Middle ages. |

Noble, I too would agree, once having the Word, that the real growth comes in the practical application of it in the life of the believer. My contribution and why I agree with you.The Word is within us. James 1:21-27 ...and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. ...If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. ***The implanted word in this place suggests the indwelling Spirit, the indwelling Christ, etc. Paul also commanded that the "word of Christ" should dwell in Christians. Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto God. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living, and active and sharper than any two edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. Colossians 1:27 To whom God was pleased to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of the glory. ***Coffman- Christ in you ... This is the essence of the "mystery" as Paul expounded it here; but a comparison with other Pauline writings on the subject reveals the mystery to be somewhat complex. There are eight expressions in the New Testament, all eight of which refer to a single state, namely, the saved state; and these are: (1) Christ is in you; (2) you are in Christ; (3) God is in you; (4) you are in God; (5) the Holy Spirit is in you; (6) you are in the Holy Spirit; (7) the mind of Christ is in you; (8) the word of Christ is in you. For Scriptural references and discussion of all these see Galatians 5:23, this volume. It is mandatory, of course, to see all of these various designations as reference to one condition only, that of the redeemed in Christ. The fact that all such references are indeed synonymous is evident from Paul's usage in this and the following verse. Here he spoke of "Christ in you"; in the very next verse, and speaking of the same thing, he referred to it as presenting every man "in Christ," thus quite obviously using "in Christ" and "Christ in you" interchangeably. *** 2 tim 2:14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them in the sight of the Lord, that they strive not about words, to no profit, to the subverting of them that hear. ***Strive not about words, to no profit ... Needless and useless argumentation have been the bane of historical Christianity. At the time of the great Communist revolution in Russia, the Orthodox Church was engaged in a tremendous argumentative crisis over the making of church vestments! Many a time, Christians have plunged into useless and silly arguments while the citadel of their faith was destroyed. Not only are such arguments of no profit, as Paul said; but they are actively mischievous, destructive and subversive of true faith. Christians? They are commanded not to do it! *** 15 Give diligence to present thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, handling aright the word of truth. ***Practically all of the exegesis on this verse regards the Greek words here rendered "handling aright," and in the KJV, "rightly dividing" the word of truth. The words have the following basic meaning: The compound verb (rightly dividing) means to "cut straight... the Greeks used the word for "expound soundly." 16 But shun profane babblings: for they will proceed further in ungodliness, ***Shun ..."This is a strong word and means literally to make a circuit so as to avoid." Profane babblings ... This refers especially to the striving about words to no profit, mentioned above. Those arguments which make frequent use of God's name, and yet without honor and submission to God's will, are actually profane in spite of any cloak of piety; and there are many religious discussions which fall squarely into this category. They will proceed further ...The end result of such disputations is not righteousness, but ungodliness.*** Reading the Bible, remembering and taking heed to it's teachings, sharing the Gospel of Christ Jesus and showing love and tolerance to one another seems to be a wise thing.
