221 | While You Have Light | John 12:36 | EdB | 243456
It has been said that people were invited here to post theological doctrines in as a means of instruction. And that the need was obvious since there were few that had even the fundamental basics of faith. At the time there were at least 10 full time pastors, two published theological authors, seminary Bible college professors and a missionary in full time work and two missionaries on a part time basis. Yeah huge void of fundamental basics of faith. People in service to the Lord. Anyone want to know what I believe? I believe scripture, all of scripture not just the parts that agree with my theology. |

222 | Value of experience | Gen 30:27 | EdB | 243453
Genesis 30:26-27 (KJV) 26 Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my service which I have done thee. 27 And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake. It has been said that, “There is no authority in experienceâ€, yet most of the gospels describe what the Disciples experienced. The story of Jesus walking on water was what they experienced, what happened, what occurred, experience. I agree experiences is not always reliable it can and is often influenced by many factors but like everything else it has to be compared to scripture, are there examples in scripture the coincide with the experience? Does the experience edify man’s flesh or man’s spirit? Does it glorify God or man? Does scripture give instruction on the experience? Did the experience remain within the boundaries of scripture? We should not discount anything that glorifies God. Nor should we deny experience as being un-trust worthy. Nothing is to be accepted on face value everything must be tested to see if it lines up with the word of God. |

223 | The Word, the Doctrine of Christ | John 8:45 | EdB | 243452
Theology is all that the Word says about any given subject (doctrine). None of this is the teaching of men, for indeed, God has instructed us, that "we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming." If that were true there would not be so many different theologies, so many different books on theology, some many perceptions of what theology say. Most Christian theology was not crafted by the trickery of man or deceitful scheming. Most come from a pure heart that believes they have interpreted scripture most purely and correctly. It was once said that if a person was left on an island to read the Bible that after so many years they would have a Christian theology. I believe this because the Bible is true. But what we know for sure their theology would not line up with the theology of one denomination or another. It may have points of one but it most assuredly would have points that would conflict with that one. This is seen most often in missions. Tribe are given bibles for the first time but if they are influenced by Lutheran then their theology aligns with the Lutheran, if they are influenced by Methodist then their theology closes aligns to the Methodist even though their Bible was translated by a group with different theology. |

224 | The Word, the Doctrine of Christ | John 8:45 | EdB | 243451
What do we mean by the word doctrine? It is nothing more than God's teaching. If man stopped there it would be totally correct. But denominational doctrine often goes a step beyond that definition; doctrine often becomes slanted to agree with a specific interpretation which is slanted to agree with a specific theology. It is not that we resist what the word says John 8:45 but rather it is most usually done with purest intent however we always run into this danger when we try beyond God’s word to fully explain what He meant. That is why we have 3000 plus different denominational doctrines each believing theirs is most faithful to the word of God. That is what makes being dogmatic about a particular doctrine so dangerous to the unity of the Body of Christ. |

225 | Foundational Doctrines of Christianity | Heb 6:1 | EdB | 243445
Hebrews 6:1-3 (NASB) 1 Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of instruction about washings and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do, if God permits. This is the list of foundational doctrines of Christianity. Many denominations add to this list but we have to realize they for the most part are man emphasized rather than foundational to Christianity. This is where we need to be careful what is truly a doctrine and what is man made denomination distinction? Once again this is where the leading and discernment of spirits from the Holy Spirit is so needed, who is being glorified? Is it Jesus Christ or is it a denomination, a creed, doctrinal philosophy, statement of faith, long service to the church, wisdom, intelligence, logic of man. Many piously talk of Christ but their focus is a doctrinal creed or agenda at the expense of all else. |

226 | Do we need to fear success | Prov 16:18 | EdB | 243444
Proverbs 16:18 (NASB) 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling. Proverbs 11:2 (NKJV) 2 When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom. Proverb 16:18 seems to suggest that whenever something is accomplished a time of trial will follow but Proverbs 11:2 which repeats the same warning also says that humbleness will prevent that. The gift of the Spirt was given for our good. If we learn to move and function within our relationship with the Holy Spirit we have nothing to fear. It is only when we deny the power of the Holy Spirit or fail to respond His leading that we have problems. |

227 | Fruit of Spirit overrides anxiety | Gal 5:22 | EdB | 243443
Galatians 5:19-24 (NASB) 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Paul’s final comment on the fruit of the Spirit is that there are no exceptions or restrictions to the lifestyle described here. Christians can and must practice these character qualities over and over again. They will never discover a law prohibiting them from living by these principles. Donald C. Stamps and J. 228 | What are false prophets? | Matt 7:15 | EdB | 243441
Distinguishing between spirits. This gift is a special Spirit-given ability to properly discern and judge prophecies and to distinguish whether or not a message or spiritual expression is from the Holy Spirit (see 1Co 14:29, note; 1Jn 4:1). During the end times, though the Bible warns that false teachers (see Mt 24:5, note) and the misrepresentation of Biblical Christianity will greatly increase (see 1Ti 4:1, note), this gift will be extremely important for the church. The others should weigh carefully. All prophecy (or tongues with interpretation) must be evaluated according to what is said. That is to say, the people should not automatically accept a message without using discernment (i.e., godly wisdom and Spirit-guided understanding) and considering whether it is consistent with God’s Word and relevant to their situation. This does not mean that the message will always be pleasant, convenient or easy to apply; but those who are in right relationship with God should be able to discern whether the message is truly from the Lord. This shows that NT prophecy was not infallible (i.e., perfectly reliable and free from error) and at times might need to be corrected. It certainly was never meant to be accepted on the same level with Scripture (i.e., God’s written Word as recorded in the Bible). (1) At times, prophecy and speaking in tongues might not be an authentic, or true, message from God (cf. 1Jn 4:1). People who are caught up in their emotions or sometimes misguided in their sense of direction from the Spirit may give a well-meaning message that is actually from their own mind and motivation. At times, even evil spirits, through the presence of false teachers or prophets, can work in a congregation. Prophesying, speaking in tongues or possessing any supernatural gift is no guarantee that one is a true prophet or even a true Christian (see article on FALSE TEACHERS) because Satan can counterfeit and imitate spiritual gifts (Mt 24:24; 2Th 2:9-12; Rev 13:13-14). Even if one possesses legitimate spiritual gifts from God, there is no guarantee that the person will always exercise their gifts properly. (2) If the church has not established proper and orderly ways (cf. v. 40) to apply and evaluate prophecies, it has failed to follow Biblical guidelines. Notice also that prophecy was not considered an uncontrollable urge of the Spirit; the speaker could control the impulse because only one prophet could speak at a time (vv. 30-32). (3) What should be the church’s attitude toward prophetic messages? (a) All prophecy must be tested according to the standard of Biblical truth (cf. Dt 13:1-3). If the prophecy has to do with something in the future, believers should look for its fulfillment before passing final judgment (cf. Dt 18:22). This includes preparing themselves for the possibility that the prophecy may or may not be fulfilled. (b) If the word of prophecy is an exhortation (i.e., a word of challenge or encouragement), the congregation needs to ask, “What must we do to obey the Spirit’s will and purpose?†(4) In order to properly evaluate and guide the use of spiritual gifts and expressions, church leaders must pray for godly discernment (i.e., divine wisdom and Spirit-guided understanding). In addition, the people in the church should not take offense at times when leaders offer correction or guidance in a worship service or to individuals in private. Such interaction is to be expected at times. Believers must never be so proud as to assume that they know exactly how to use the gifts of the Spirit at all times without guidance and correction. This does not mean that God is displeased or that leaders are upset with the people. Keep in mind that many of the NT letters—such as this one to the Corinthians—contained large portions on guidance and correction about such issues. And these instructions came from leaders who loved the people deeply and respected the ministry God was doing among them. Donald C. Stamps and J. Wesley Adams, ed., Fire Bible, (Springfield, MO: Life Publishers International, 2009), WORDsearch CROSS e-book, Under: "Study Notes". |

229 | Fear of praying in public out loud? | John 11:42 | EdB | 243440
Dear Justme How great it is to have you on this forum. You have been a faithful friend and responder on this forum and I know that you like me have a great love for truth and this forum. We all thank you for your wisdom and patience with those that want to run the forum their way under their agenda. I think many that are reluctant to pray aloud may be from a feeling of being inadequate. They may have a fear of public speaking or and most probably have heard the long flowing wordy prayers of those that like to be heard and feel they are unable to match such a prayer. If we look at the prayers recorded throughout scripture most are simple to the point petitions of God or worship of his majesty. None contain words that many people need a dictionary or thesaurus to fully understand. Many people feel to pray adequately they must get high and holy or long using many words and this cause many to pause when the opportunity to pray arises. I think the second obstacle is the fact many people are rarely if ever given the opportunity to pray aloud, therefore they feel ill at ease when the time comes for them to do so. Pastors are to equip the saints for the work of the Lord Eph 4:11-12 and this often just is not getting done. |

230 | Biblical reasons for divorce? | 1 Cor 7:15 | EdB | 243432
Not to feel guilty. Not to be a slave of guilt, a failure.
231 | Prophecy Fulfilled | Acts 20:30 | EdB | 243431
Bingo I think you identified the problem I have with Reformed philosophy. That being it is founded on doctrine instead of being founded on the Rock that being Jesus Christ. When we allow doctrine to define us we have allowed walls to be placed between us but when defined by the Rock "Jesus Christ" we live loving those that hate us, those that persecute us, those that mock and malign us. The problem in today's church people want only to avoid damnation, they fail to dispise sin and seek freedom from it. Let only want to do what they are told is needed rather that being self motivated, which causes them to do little or nothing because they have been told holiness is not needed. |

232 | Biblical reasons for divorce? | 1 Cor 7:15 | EdB | 243425
I do not believe 1 Cor. 7:12-15 and in particular verse 15 is okaying divorce with the implication that the righteous person can remarry. It simply says let the unbeliever go if they want to. Now if that person then commits adultery the vow of marriage is broken and divorce is warranted. |

233 | Justme's questions | John 9:41 | EdB | 243417
Justme you asked four really good questions, but I doubt you will get many responses. I believe two things have impacted many of the areas you addressed. Easy Believism or super grace teaching that you don,t have to do anything, sure Christians are called servants of God but most are taught they don,t have to do anything. The second is teaching that you can't lose your salvation, it secure so sit back and relax. But let us see what responses you do get. |

234 | Solo Scriptura -- Radical Individualism | 2 Tim 3:6 | EdB | 243416
You are right we Pentecostals do not see any of this junk in our midst, although many Calvinist claim they have observed in our services. Which they have never attended I might add. And I assure you no liberal theologian believes as I do. I'm reluctant to dignify your last paragraph by responding to it but I will take a shot. Is it a fact that we Pentecostal's have more moral failures than other denominations or is it a case where many Pentecostal churches are so large a failure is more noticeable, more open to public ridicule? I believe it is the latter. That said any failure of any type in ministry is a tragedy. Frankly way too many enter ministry not because of a calling but out of a belief that it is a good career. I believe any man not called of God to the ministry and enters ministry is a fraud and will probably be exposed into shame. |

236 | Solo Scriptura -- Radical Individualism | 2 Tim 3:6 | EdB | 243410
Last paragraph should read: Since you admit these false teachers are long dead and their teaching has for the most part died with them, why bring it up? Unless you were not so innocently taking another potshot at those that believe the Holy Spirit does have an active ministry in today's world. |

237 | Solo Scriptura -- Radical Individualism | 2 Tim 3:6 | EdB | 243409
You may understand who it was that Calvin was talking about but many modern day Calvinist don't. Therefore they apply his hatred to anyone not of the Calvinist bent. They go out of their way to malign any that don't conform to their Reformed philosophy. Since you admit those that those mentioned in this quote and their teaching is long dead why bother to quote it? Unless you were not so innocently taking potshots at those that believe the Holy Spirit does have a ministry in today's world. |

238 | Solo Scriptura -- Radical Individualism | 2 Tim 3:6 | EdB | 243405
What makes for radical individualism more then Sola Scriptura and the teaching each man can decide for himself how to interpret that scripture? Men for years have justified all sorts of sin by convoluting scripture. Look at Calvin he justified.burning an enemy instead of loving him as scripture demands. Look at Luther he justified soul sleep, polygamy, and hatred of Jews by scripture. Look at many Reformed denominations that have justified abortion, homosexuality and alcohol usage by their interpretation of scripture. Notice also that the argument Reformation offers is that anyone that disagrees with them simply aren't, interpreting scripture correctly. Have been misled by a Spirit. Some Reformers went so far as to lobby for removal of Books of Scripture to be removed because they could not wordsmith around what those books said. Man can be deceived and that is exactly why God gave us both s rapture and the active leading of the Holy Spirit. If both aren't functioning in our lives then we are not living in truth but instead most probably the justification of man. |

239 | Christianity requires work | James 2:23 | EdB | 243404
Your interpretation of What Pail was saying renders Satan as a non factor. Big mistake. Scripture describes him as a roaring lion, no one should ever ignore a roaring lion. Scripture is the accuser of the saints. Why accuse someone that has no responsibility for their destiny? Scripture says Satan is the tempter. Why tempt someone that has no choice? The damaged Reformed philosophy rings hollow when you look at the Book Of Job. Satan accused Job of loving God for what God gave him. Yet Satan never said what do you expect you elected Job to love you and he has no choice and nothing that I do can make him lose his salvation. The Book of Job should show anyone how damaged the Reformed Philosophy is. Or do you ignore James citing Job as example of preseverance to accomplish God's will? Sounds like Job had a major part in his blessing. |
||||||
240 | Christianity requires work | James 2:23 | EdB | 243403
Ah we have a seemingly conflict of scripture. One place it says Abraham believed and was obedient to God and this was accounted to him as being righteous. Then we have Paul saying Abraham's fleshly works did nothing. This is where the Reformed philosophy manufactured by man starts it's death spiral. They want to suggest that since they eliminated responsibility of man that man's destiny isn't effected by anything man does. Then they go on and say before man can believe God and be obedient to God he must be made to do so by God. That is being controlled much like a puppet. Notice in Job Satan never suggested this to God. satan never said of course Job loves you, You elected him to that. Notice there is no mention of anything like that. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to bring conviction to man. Then man has a choice to dismiss this conviction or as John 3:16 says believe in his salvation from those things he is convicted of. Then as in John 3:17 clearly says this belief and obedience to God is accounted to his righteousness. No matter what you say you can not ignore that passage. That has to tell you that you are not interrupting what Paul is really saying. Paul is saying we can, not make ourselves righteous. He never said we don't have do anything, never said we do not have to believe and be obedient to God. If the God is really our Lord then it is contradiction of terms not to live obedient to that Lord. We have to believe in Him or obedience is hollow. Both of these things are things man must do. The warped philosophy of Calvinism has so convoluted the teachings of Christ, so instead of loving their enemy they sentence him to the stake. Instead of living Holy many advocate Abortion, Homsexuality, Alcohol, and other unrighteous styles of life. They have fallen for the lie they are special and can live beyond the requirements of being lead of Holy Spirit, all they need is their own intellect and logic to understand and explain scripture to fit their philosophy. Even Satan knew better when he challenged God over God's servant Job. |
