24 | can you help me defind Zion | 1 Kin 8:1 | ominous | 154362
In Hebrew the word Zion means monument, mountain, something unmovable. The word is used in different ways in the scriptures, sometimes to designate the region in and around Jerusalem as in 1 Kings 8:1. and sometimes to designate the people or Israelites. Originally the Israelites were the only people who had a relationship with God. Psalms 147:20, so they were to be the monument on earth to represent God and to be an example for the other nations to follow who never knew the one true God.
25 | Where is Zion? | 1 Kin 8:1 | ominous | 154359
1 Kings tells us that Zion is the city of David,(Bethlehem). Zion is also used to sometimes symbolize the people (Israel)as in Isaiah 28:16. The word Zion comes from a hebrew word that means monument. As God originally meant for the Israelites to be his monument on earth, an example for the nations to follow. Other names for the nation include: Jerusalem, Jeshurun, Jacob, The daughters of Zion, depending on the context in which they are used.

i guess most believers doubt themselves, that is, doubt their own righteousness.
27 | Two questions on this verse | Heb 3:13 | ominous | 154003
today means basicly just that. in other words encourage one another every day, and if you see your brother or sister in a state of weakness or error, admonish them at that very time, do not put it off or wait; same as let not the sun go down upon thy wrath. the longer one is allowed to remain in error the stronger the dillusion or doubt grows. as in the previous verse an evil heart of unbelief is the seed of doubt, which must not be allowed to take root.
28 | Noah took 7 clean but only 2 unclean ? | Gen 9:3 | ominous | 153787
thanx, you are right about that, the new and old testaments don't contradict each other, not only regarding clean and unclean animals, on anything!as god cannot contradict himself. some times there are misunderstandings because of translation problems. example; exodus 20:13, thou shalt not kill; then dueteronomy 19:21,life for life, eye for eye; the original word in hebrew translated as "kill" in english, is murder. as in premeditated. you don't just take everything at face value, i like that! if you really want the truth you sometimes have to dig, and most people don't want to do that! but in genesis 3:19 god said, in the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread.

2 peter 2:2, hebrews 5:12-14,(meat and strong meat are in this case allegories for knowledge, useable according to age and,or development) as i said i do not mix doctrine. but i believe that if you have strong root in christ, then you can discerne between good and evil, and not fear error.it is written that we have an unction to know all things, and again that we have the mind of christ.if never exposed to evil, then how would you know good? never did i say that the spirit of god had to depend on any thing occult. those are your words. if you read the original question, it was not really scripture based. besides a reference to the seven days of creation; so how can i answer it with scripture? how would you have answered it? or would you have not responded at all? the interpretation of #'s

okay guys, i am not recomending kabalah to anyone. he asked a question, concerning numerology, he stated that seven represented completion, there are no biblical teachings on numerology, the only place i ever came across numerical symbology defined was in kabalistic writings. i am not practicing it or condoning it i was merely trying to answer his question. of course over the years i have come in contact with it as well as many other things, as i'm sure many of you have. i know the teachings of the bible are supreme, and not to be mingled with other phylosophy. and by the way to whoever wrote that all scripture was to be taken literally, your wrong! do you really expect a seven headed dragon to come out of the ocean? you guys sure are judgmental.

the best place to find out about the spiritual signifigance is the kabalah. though considered "occult" by many today, it was common practice in old times. the number 5 represents power, severity, and or justice.(depending on the context). three does not really mean "the holy trinity" as modern christianity understands it. but the trinity is an expression of 1,2,and 3 combined. one is the crown:knowledge; meaning god. two is wisdom; the reflection, or image of one, the son. three is understanding; the wife of two, also being another emmination of one. from the union or marriage of two and three proceeds the creation. this is what is known as the trinity today. the rest are, four is mercy, six is beauty, seven is completion, eight is glory, nine is foundation, 10 is kingdom.

34 | What of Baptism? | Bible general Archive 2 | ominous | 153666
i never said that i was'nt baptized. my parents had me baptized as a child, then i did it again as a teenager. but i later started studying and enjoying the truth that i found in the scriptures. let me ask a question; in rev 5:10 it tells us that christ made us kings and priests, doing away with the levitical priesthood. is it then not acceptable for one to baptize the members of his own house in the name of christ?

38 | What of Baptism? | Bible general Archive 2 | ominous | 153635
when the church was originally formed, it was for the most part one body. sure there were little sects on this and that, but to me the teachings were more unified; as the doctrine was "new" to most. but now! there hundereds of sects. all claiming to be the "truth" i have not found one particular denomonation whose doctrine i fully agree with. my doctrine is the bible, and if you look at most denominations they stem from some disagreement that caused them to branch off from another.paul said that the body was to be unified, of one mind, "beware the concision" he warned. so for me to be baptised into this or that denomination it would be necessary for me to conform fully to its teachings. and i just havent found that yet.don't misunderstand i am a conservative christian. and do teach my children, and tell them of christ and his gift of love toward us. 1 john 4:1 tells us that we should investigate to be sure: as paul said that we are convinced in our own minds; to me this implies investigation. so thats my main "hinderance" from being baptised. and as a result, i do not feel that this is disobedience but the opposite! i take this very seriously, and christ has wrought great works in my life; as i look to him to guide me, so i do not feel that this discretion is counted as error toward me. i really love the fact that you all are so passionate.

did you even read the scriptures i posted? basptism is a symbol of faith, not a means for salvation. yes faith is necessary for salvation, faith in christ, but you are not doomed for non-baptism. mark 16:17 said we would speak in tongues, do you also believe that we are doomed if we dont speak in tongues? 1 corinthians 12 said not all would do so. i simply mean that baptism is not necessary for redemption. not by works, lest any one should boast!
