21 | What happens immediatly after you die? | 2 Corinthians | jlschock | 180288
Greetings ddethdan, Immediately after our physical bodies die we will be face to face with God. Hebrews 9:27-28 AMP says "And just as it is appointed for [all] men once to die, and after that the [certain] judgment, Even so it is that Christ, having been offered to take upon Himself and bear as a burden the sins of many once and once for all, will appear a second time, not to carry any burden of sin nor to deal with sin, but to bring to full salvation those who are [eagerly, constantly, and patiently] waiting for and expecting Him." I like Peter's entire speach in this chapter but for length sake I'll only quote the verse pertaining to the question. Acts 10:42 AMP says "And He charged us to preach to the people and to bear solemn testimony that He is the God-appointed and God-ordained Judge of the living and the dead." Hope this helps, Joanna :) |

23 | How can we be fearfully made? | Ps 139:14 | jlschock | 180215
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/fearfully There is a difference between the definitions I think the definition of fear in Psalm 139:14 is not "causing or apt to cause fear; frightening" but "full of awe or reverence". As in the way that God created us is awesome. Fear as in 1 John 4:18 is the "causing or apt to cause fear; frightening" kind of fear Hope this helps for HIS Glory, Joanna :) |

24 | How high did the Red Sea rise | Exodus | jlschock | 180160

25 | Why was Onan punished? | Gen 38:10 | jlschock | 179957
since the two verses before this verse are about Onan making Tamar pregnant. It says that what Onan did was evil in the sight of the Lord so He took his life also. I think that "also" is referring to his brothers who also did evil in the eyes of the Lord. The most descriptive thing that this chapter says about Onan is that he did not want to make Tamar pregnant because he didn't want to father children that wouldn't be his own. As for other duties, I don't think that the chapter is descriptive enough. Hope this helps Joanna :) |

26 | Who are "these brothers of mine"? | Matt 25:40 | jlschock | 179727
Since Christians are children of God (John 1:12-13, Galatians 3:7, etc) and Jesus said in Luke 8:21 that His mother and brothers are those that listen the Word and do it, it could be argued that it is only other beleivers. But Matthew 5:43-48 says that brotherly love should be given to everyone even your enemy. I think that Matthew 25:40 is talking about everyone, your kids, your family, people in the hospitol, people in prison, your friend, your enemy, everyone. hope this helps, Joanna :) |

27 | How will I hear God's answer? | James 1:5 | jlschock | 179726
I came across this verse in devotion today I thought that I would share since I think it has to do with what we are talking about in this thread. Isaiah 45:18-19For thus says the Lord--Who created the heavens, God Himself, Who formed the earth and made it, Who established it and did not create it to be a worthless waste; He formed it to be inhabited--I am the Lord, and there is no one else. I have not spoken in secret, in a corner of the land of darkness; I did not call the descendants of Jacob [to a fruitless service], saying, Seek Me for nothing [but I promised them a just reward]. I, the Lord, speak righteousness (the truth--trustworthy, straightforward correspondence between deeds and words); I declare things that are right. I think that no matter how the LORD speaks to you that if you are seeking for his wisdom and righteousness you will know it is the LORD that is speaking to you. When I am seeking the LORD, I read His word and pray asking for understanding and guidence and I keep reading until I hear from Him. hope this helps Joanna :) |

28 | How will I hear God's answer? | James 1:5 | jlschock | 179701
Proverb 1:20-21 is a great reference verse about wisdom. I was by no means saying that the LORD always or only speaks in a still, small voice as in 1 Kings 19:9-18. In Job 38 the LORD talking out of a storm. That would be very loud. I think He talks in both ways. I was emphasizing on the still, small voice so that the person seeking the LORD's answer would not over look that. I was only giving some examples and I know that I missed some. I didn't even touch on dreams (there are so many references the first is Genesis 20) and visions (my personal favourite is Acts 10). Azure, as a mom do you speak to your child with shouts or in a loving calm voice? I find myself (as a mom of 2) using both ways depending on the situation. for HIS glory, Joanna :) |

29 | How will I hear God's answer? | James 1:5 | jlschock | 179667
I would say that it depends on the situation that you are asking for wisdom. There are many ways that God could respond. A few are: He could use the time when you are reading the Word (Heb 4:12-13), He could use the body of Christ that is around you (there are several verses about the testimony of two or three witnesses), He could speak directly to you (1 Kings 19:9-18) Most often it's in a still, small voice and the best way to hear that voice is to be still before the LORD (Psalm 46:10) When I ask the LORD for wisdom I keep seeking Him until have an answer. I understand the situation and see His rightousness in the situation. The hardest part for me is to be still and listen after I ask. I trust that James 1:5 says that wisdom will be given to the person that asks. But I also remember the next three verses: James 1:6-8 "But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." Hope this helps, Joanna :) |

40 | What constitutes true repentance? | 1 Pet 2:25 | jlschock | 179381
I think that when you repent you turn from that sin never to return to it again. But know that you will be tempted. So when you are tempted you make a choice to turn from it again. And when you are being tempted thank the LORD for forgiveness and ask for strength to not fall into sin again. Being tempted is not sinning but falling into the temptation is. 1 Corinthians 10:13 NASB For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently. for HIS glory, Joanna :) |
