21 | what happened to the tree of knowledge? | Gen 2:9 | chynna | 45886
Yes. Genesis 6 talks about the flood. :-) But you've made me think. Obviously 10 months under water didn't kill all the vegetation. So conceivably that tree, or a seed thereof, could be somewhere on earth. Since the bible doesn't specify the type of tree, it could be the apple tree for all we know. I'm more interested in what happened to the tree of life. Did it have enough life in it to withstand the flood? :)
22 | what happened to the tree of knowledge? | Gen 2:9 | chynna | 45817
It was destroyed with the great flood in Noah's time.
23 | does baptism save us? 1Pet.3:21 | 1 Pet 3:21 | chynna | 45668
Well, let's put it this way. All the examples provided in the Bible on conversion included baptism. Check out Acts 2:14-41, Acts 8:5-13, Acts 8:35-39, Acts 9:17-18, Acts 10:34-48, Acts 16:32 and Acts 16:13. I use to think it wasn't important, but I wasn't at peace until I decided to be baptised. I don't think the act of baptism was meant to be considered work. Jesus was baptised. Which says volumes. |

24 | Help. Someone's testamony has me upset | Not Specified | chynna | 45249
Help. My faith isn't shaken, but I'm suddenly questioning everything that brought me to God. Someone posted their testamony on another board yesterday. It was amazing and left me in awe. The man said that while driving to work, he was lifted up out of his car by a bright light and found himself in heaven in front of God. He said that God showed him heaven and then gave him the ability for a moment to think like God so he could understand the reasoning behind everything God created. He said that God told him if he believed in His Son, all that would be his. Then he found himself back in the car, stopped in the middle of a freeway. This supposedly is a man that didn't believe and at the urging of some friends was baptised anyway. He thought the whole thing a joke until this happened. The more I got to thinking about this last night, the more I got to doubting the more subtle things in my life that I attribute to God. I started questioning whether I wanted God to be behind the things that happened and therefore just believed it to be so. I couldn't sleep last night it upset me so. I've worried about it all morning. The things I felt sure where God are suddenly in question for me. I don't like it.

27 | Was the serpent satan or just a serpent? | Gen 3:1 | chynna | 44655
Let me ask you this. Obviously God created the serpent to be able to speak with humans. Eve doesn't seem to question the fact a serpent is speaking to her. And she doesn't seem to question the presence of the serpent in general being in the garden. And if satan possessed the serpent, then why would God punish the serpent for something it couldn't control? As for that, why even punish an animal that many believe has no awareness to anything remotely spiritual? Unless the serpent is as susceptable to satan as humans are? Which makes me question how much intercommunication goes on between God and the animals. Before man's fall, men and animals were both vegetarians, both lived in harmony with each other and neither were suspectible to death. Only after this incident with the serpent are both animal and man condemned to death. If animals were not guilty to some degree in this fall of man, then why condemn them to death? Too many questions. Not enough answers.
28 | Was the serpent satan or just a serpent? | Not Specified | chynna | 44648
Genesis 1:29 Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all the creatures that move on the ground - everything that has the breath of life in it - I give every green plant for food. Genesis 2:15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." (I can't help but notice God only commanded man not eat from this tree. The animals don't seem to be a part of this restriction. They were allowed to eat from every seed bearing plant and tree.) Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" 2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die." (It appears the serpent has already tasted the fruit and knows and its eyes have been opened) Genesis 3:14 So the Lord God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, "Cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals!" Is the serpent really satan? This is why God punished not only man, but animals too. But where is satan in this picture? |

30 | A question about God's creation plans | Not Specified | chynna | 43250
God created animals prior to creating man. He created male and female of every species. When He created man He only created Adam at first. It's unclear from the bible whether Adam was created a child or an adult and how long he remained alone. Why didn't God automatically create a female human?

32 | Question about Church on Wednesday night | Not Specified | chynna | 43174
I'm finding it difficult to make it to Wednesday night Bible study. I study the Bible every day though, usually later in the evenings after the children are put to bed, but I understand I'm missing out on the fellowship that takes place on Wednesday nights at church. I have two questions. Why do churches meet on Wednesday nights? Is it okay to skip Wednesday nights at church?

34 | Can a man know God without a Bible? | Rom 10:17 | chynna | 41892
I don't have any scripture to back me up, but I think the answer is yes to a certain degree. Maybe not an intimate relationship with God, but a relationship with God. I didn't go to church for over 20 years and didn't read the Bible, but God was very much a part of my life and I knew it. But knowing the Bible helps put some things in perspective that wouldn't otherwise be if you didn't have it.
35 | Seeing and talking to God vs praying | Not Specified | chynna | 41727
In the old testament, God actually appeared spoke with Adam, Moses, Abraham, Jacob, etc,. How come there isn't a place in the New Testament where God actually appears and speaks with Jesus, His Son? Before Jesus is crucified we see Him praying to the Lord at Gethsemane. Did Adam, Moses and Abraham pray as well? Or could they simply speak with God? It just seems odd that the Son of God prays to communicate with His Father, where Adam, Moses and Abraham saw Him face to face.

39 | gap between Gensis 1:1 and Gensis 1:2 | Gen 1:2 | chynna | 40478
You can simply type in 'gap theory' in whatever search engine you use and get tons of information on the subject. You can also type it into the quick search at the top of the screen if you want to search this forum. In Gen 1:2 "The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep". Some think that the earth at this point was already created and in total chaos. In addition, some intrepret that passage "And the earth BECAME without form and void". There are all kinds of thoughts of what happened during the time the earth was created and when it BECAME form and void. But if you believe God created everything in seven days, then this theory can't hold any weight. |

40 | Paul's view of women and marriage | Not Specified | chynna | 40302
1Corinhians 7:1 It is good for man not to marry. But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband... Verse 7: I wish that all men were as I am. Paul thinks that men should not marry or become involved with women. He is essentially saying that men who get married are less worthy in God's eyes than men like him. They have a weakness that Paul didn't have. With these statements, I take it Paul probably thought sexual intercourse between those married was a weakness and not something God would condone. I'm confused. What is Paul saying here? |
