21 | Knowing gay minister unequally yoked? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 203992
Ok now for something completely different. The kooky professor has a good friend who is a gay minster on the pulpit and has been having a discussion with this man about whether or not being gay and Christian(forget even the minister part) is Christian or wrong. This has been going on for three years and this professor didn't cut him off in the hopes of turning him around(go figure...) and has not taken it to the church either. He has been going back and forth with this guy via email and they are discussing doing a book together along the lines of Evangelicals and Catholics Together as if there is a real discussion here about whether it is something that can be overcome as Christians who have differing views about how to be Christians... I asked him if he would be concerned about being unequally yoked with this man in doing this book... His reply shocked the mess out of me, He said, oh that's not being unequally yoked, being unequally yoked is when we go out into the market place and work with unbelievers... HUNH? Opinions please scriputres or no ok with me, we all know some that apply. I won't ever be taking any of his classes after I am done this summer... God bless, Tamara
22 | Wisodom has the power to save? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 204125
Once again I tried to include a scripture up in the appropriate boxes before writing this post, it won't let me do it. This is a question about whether or not wisdom from Jesus, like the parables found in Mathew, and the Sermon on the Mount has the power to salvically draw people to a saving faith in Christ. I am posting this for the second time because no one addressed the question in light of the scriptures which I did include, but gave me good advice and opinions, and because I got complaints that my posts were not concise and were too long. I looked up the Lockman Foundation’s guidelines and it said not to use brevity because it can be confusing and when you go to post a question it says to include all the details of your question, and there is a limit to how many characters you can type, if you exceed the limit it tells you to shorten by a certain amount of characters. There is no bottom line on this to go to; it is not a simple question. 1)On context, I came across a situation in which I was evangelizing with someone. This guy was asking passers by if they would like to discuss The Moral Argument, The Cosmological Argument, The Anthropological Argument, The Teleological Argument. Passers by were presented with an argument for that God exists as The Absolute Moral Law Giver, The Uncaused Cause, The Creator of Man in His Image, The Intelligent Maker of Creation. Then this guy would point out the fatal flaw in the rational of the passer by through setting an intellectual trap by showing them how their view was hypocritical, lacked rationality or otherwise did not measure up to the logic and wisdom of what he had presented as his argument. After pointing out their fatal flaw he would then try to get them to admit God existed, if he could get them to do that, then and only then would he give them the gospel message of Christ's atoning death. 2)On context, He invited me to a get together of believers and nonbelievers to hear a bit of Jesus wisdom from the gospels. The scripture was Mathew 7:1-5. I sat there for two hours while we discussed the elements of the text, like what is a log in your eye and what is a measure of judgment. The unbelievers were never given the gospel message of Christ's atoning death. 3)On context, I confronted this guy and asked why he didn't just give them the message that could save and that it bothered me that we were being unequally yoked with unbelievers studying scripture that has the power to equip the saved with wisdom, but which does not have the information necessary to save. He said the wisdom of Jesus has the power to draw people salvifically to God and that he was doing pre-evangelism. He said there is a mandate to use wisdom to evangelize. He also said Jesus was doing pre-evangelism by humbling or shaming and clarifying the law and the His miracles – these are all wisdom. 4)On context, the apostles did not use the words of Jesus wisdom to evangelize that I can see. In Acts it speaks of Peter and Paul using wisdom while they preached about Christ crucified as the way to salvation and to show from the OT that Jesus is God. 5)On context, He accused me of hiding behind the gospel and being unwilling to deal intellectually with people who can respond to rational, logical wisdom in order to get saved and that my methods of giving people the scriptures and the message of Christ's atonement was running away from the world. 6)The scriptures for my point that the gospel message we and the apostles preach is Christ crucified, I Corinthians 2:1-8, 1:18-31, Colossians 2:2-10, Acts 22:29-36, Acts 3:12-19, Acts 4:2, Acts 10:34-43. 7)The scriptures for his point that the wisdom of Jesus has the power to draw people salvifically to a saving faith in God, Mathew 12:25-28, II Corinthians 10:4, 5, John 20:30, 31, I kings 3:28, II Timothy 3:14, 15. 8)Question; does the wisdom that comes from the parables and the Sermon on the Mount by itself have the power to draw people salvically to a saving faith in God? 9)Question; is studying together with unbelievers without giving them the gospel being unequally yoked in ministry? |

23 | How do these accounts reconcile? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 204130
This is a repost because I am looking for a complete answer , I received one partial answer, thank you, you know who you are. I am also reposting this because I received complaints that my posts were not concise and would like to comply and again receive a complete answer, if there is one. There is no bottom line to this question it is not simple. 1)On context; The gospels have conflicting accounts of events at the tomb of Jesus on the resurrection day. 2)On context; Angels, Mathew has one angel on a sitting on a stone outside the tomb, Mark has one angel sitting to the right in the tomb, Luke and John have two angels inside the tomb. 3)On context; Mary sees Jesus first at the tomb and then goes and tells the disciples immediately in John, Mary sees Jesus first after leaving the tomb in Mark, The disciples see Jesus first at the place where they were away from the tomb in Mathew, the two on the road to Emmaus are the first to see Jesus in Luke. 4)On context; Mary goes alone in John, Mary goes with the other Mary in Mathew, Mary goes with three women in Mark, Mary goes with a group of women more than three in Luke. 5)Question; can you reconcile all four gospel accounts if you can please? |

33 | Please HelpUnderstanding Sola Scriptura? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 205806
Dear Forum members, I understand this much about Sola Scriptura - that the Bible is the sole authoritative word of God. Please correct me if this is a wrong understanding and what if any tenets are listed in this understanding? I did go to Cristian.org and read the article but wonder if there is such a list which I am describing of tenets. Thanks everyone for putting up with my ignorance about some things some times...Tam |

34 | Creeds and Confessions Needful? | Not Specified | Tamara Brewington | 205807
Dear Forum members, Could someone elaborate for me why some Baptist churches are not inculcated with the various protestant confessions of faith and some are? What would you say about a Baptist church that is not inculcated with these confessions, but goes by Sola Scriptura alone? Not saying the two must be or are mutually exclusive to one another, I can see that they must have been built in some sense on the concept of Sola Scriptura... I am truly ingnorant of these things and really never, ever heard of Sola Scriptura before coming in here, it is not taught at my school (perhaps it is in the church history classess I don't know) and I never heard of it before in my small Baptist church or in the much, much bigger one where my school is affiliated at when I went to hear preaching there. The only thing I remember my pastor saying about anything in this area is that there are a whole lot of things out there that are considered valid creeds and practices, and I as your pastor am not saying they are not valid, but the only thing I will be teaching you here is a literal interpretation of the Bible because the scriptures are the final authority you don't need to learn what I say or what men say, my job is to teach you the Bible and only the Bible. God Bless everyone, Tamara |

36 | How do we get saved, by baptism? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 203709
What do you believe is the truth about how to get saved, do you believe that it is necessary to get baptized to get saved, or do you believe that salvation is granted as soon as you believe; base your answer on your assessment of Galatians 5:4, Romans 11:2,3, I Peter 1:4,5, Romans 8:37-39?
37 | Acts 13:1 | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 203706
Your choice of scripture leaves one wondering how it relates to SDA? SDA believes that when people died their souls go to sleep and that they do not go to heaven until the rapture. This belief cannot make or break your salvation it is just not based on the totatlity of what scripture teaches about death for the believer. They take this belief from I Timothy 4:14 where it says that God will bring with Him those that have fallen asleep in Jesus. But sleep often refers to death in the New Testament and this scripture simply means whoever died in Christ will have their dead body raised in the rapture (see verses 15,16 to get the proper context). They also believe that a person gets to heaven after being saved by living a life of good works and that a profession of believing in Christ is not enough to get into heaven. They base this beleif on James 2:18-20 where it says I will show you my faith by my works and that faith without works is useless. They aslo base this belief in keeping all the Old Testament Law in disregard of all of Romans where it teaches that the law cannot get you into heaven. They are law keepers and do not believe in salvation by faith alone, by grace alone. They believe in salvation by believing in Jesus and convenant keeping and for this reason they keep the Sabbath, which is Saturday. This is because the 10 Commandments say to keep the Sabbath Holy to the Lord as a perpetual statute. They believe that if you don't keep the Sabbath, but instead worship God on Sunday, you have the mark of the beast, but they have no scripture for this, they just believe it. Seventh Day Adventist therefor qualifies as a cult rather than as a sect of Christianity.

39 | Country of the bible's origin | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 203730
The Bible was written in Canaan the Old Testament and then in Palestine the New Testament. Look on the web under,"History of the Bible Cannon" to see when it was put together. But seriously the writers of the OT were in Judea and Isreal which was in Canaan land, the middle east and the writers of the NT were in Judea which was Canann renamed Palestine. See, "Bible Atlas" on the web, or, "Biblical Maps" on the web.
40 | Saturday or Sunday? | Bible general Archive 4 | Tamara Brewington | 203733
Whichever version of the Bible you own see Romans 14:5-12 where it says that each person regards one day above another according to his conscience and that it does not matter which day you worship. If you become a Seventh Day Adventist you will end up believing that your salvation depends on keeping all of the Old Testament Law, a concept which is contrary to the entire book of Romans. The Sabbath did not change, Christians in Acts met on the first day of the week, the day Jesus rose to honor Him. Nowhere does it say in the New Testament that you can be saved by good works and law keeping. You are saved by grace alone, by faith alone, or you aren't saved at all. Not hard to figure out if SDA's are saved is it?
