21 | Does Is.66:23 mean sabbath still stands? | Is 66:23 | HOTH | 232447
Hi Beja, You make reference to “the weekly Jewish Sabbath.” In Genesis 2: 3 we read, “Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.” This predates the Jewish people by well over 2 thousand years. Did you mean the Jewish weekly observance of the Sabbath? Hoth |

22 | is there a waiting place till judgdment | 1 Chronicles | HOTH | 232291
Hi Shaneknox, Question: Do we go directly to heaven if saved when we die? John 3:13 “No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man.” Ecclesiastes 9:5 “For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten.” Acts 2:29 “Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.” 34 “For it was not David who ascended into heaven . . .” Paul explains how the dead in Christ will all be resurrected from the dead “in the twinkling of an eye” and will be changed, along with the Saints living at the time, into immortals. (1 Corinthians 15: 49-55) This happens when Jesus Christ returns “at the last trumpet.” Jesus told His disciples, “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:2-3) and “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven . . .” Finally Christ reveals when and where the reward shall be received: “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with me, to give to everyone according to his work” (Rev. 22:12) These scriptures show that everyone, except Christ, who died, are still dead, even King David. They know nothing and are unaware of the passage of time. Those in Christ will be resurrected to eternal life when Christ returns. He is bringing this reward with Him. Jesus Christ is coming to us; we are not going to Him. You are on the right track by turning to scripture. Remember, all scripture must be in harmony. When you see them all in harmony, then you will know you have the proper understanding. Hoth |

24 | Who was Abraham's heir before Eliezer? | Genesis | HOTH | 232212
You have asked 3 separate questions, so I will answer each separately. 1. Was Abram resentful due to losing Lot? I’m not sure what you mean by losing Lot, I assume you are referring to when they separated. There is nothing in scripture to indicate that Abram was resentful. 2. Could this indicate that Abram had adopted his nephew when his brother died? There is no reason to believe that Abram adopted Lot. We do not know how old Lot was when his father died. If Lot were adopted, then would he not have then become Abram’s heir, which he was not? 3. Was Lot receiving an inheritance of some kind? No. Lot did not chose Sodom, but all the valley of the Jordan, he settled in the cities of the Valley and moved his tents as far as the city of Sodom. Lot settled in the area east of the Jordan, out of the promised land in the area later known as “the Land of Moab” between the Arnon and the Jabbok. This area became part of the nation of Moab (Lot’s descendants), but this northern area of Moab was later conquered by the Amorites. The Amorites were in turn conquered by Israel and “the land of Moab” was settled by the tribes of Gad and Reuben. Hoth |

26 | Why does God say "us" in Gen 3:22 | Gen 1:26 | HOTH | 231895
The "Us" would be God the Father and the Word (Jesus Christ). John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. Philippians 2: 5-7 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. 27 | How many hours were Jesus on the cross? | Mark 15:25 | HOTH | 231846
Hi Chaney, When Jesus was crucified, there were twelve hours in the day and twelve hours in the night (John 11: 9). He was crucified at 9 am or the third hour (Mark 15: 25). At noon, or the sixth hour, “darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour,” or 3 pm (Mark 15: 15:33). At the ninth hour, or 3 pm, Jesus cried out with a loud voice. Shortly after this, Jesus uttered a loud cry and died (Mark 15: 37). So Jesus was alive on the cross for about 6 hours. When His body was removed from the cross and laid in the tomb, the sun was about to set and the Sabbath was to begin. This would be about the 12th hour or 6 pm (Luke 23: 53-54). A total of about 8 1/2 - 9 hours that Jesus was on the cross. Hoth |

29 | How many days was Jesus dead? | Bible general Archive 4 | HOTH | 231842
Hi CDBJ, I think you are on the right track, but you have not gone far enough. Your explanation does not provide for: Mark 16:1 – When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him. Luke 23:56 – Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment. Yes, the women bought the spices after the Sabbath was over, but prepared them before the Sabbath! How can this be except that they bought the spices on Friday, after the Thursday High Sabbath, and prepared them the same day. They then rested on the Saturday Sabbath! I have tried to determine what day of the week that the 14th of Nissan fell on and found it impossible to do so. Hoth |

30 | Explain Is. 45:23 and Phil.2:10 | Rom 14:11 | HOTH | 231828
Hi chaney, The difference appears to be only a matter of translation. There is no distinction in the NASB, which is a word for word translation. In Philippians 2:10, Paul is quoting Isaiah 45:23, as he also does in Romans 14:11. Hoth |

33 | Sabbath Saturday change to Sunday | Matt 5:18 | HOTH | 231781
Hi GTSpeck, Again, Matthew 28:1-6 shows that Jesus was resurrected sometime before the break of dawn on Sunday. In determining when Jesus was resurrected we must look at several scriptures that concern His death and burial. They must all be in harmony. These scriptures specifically concern His own prophecy, the timing of the Preparation Day, the High Sabbath and the weekly Sabbath and finally the use of the spices. -What did Jesus say about His death and resurrection? Jesus said He would be killed and raised up on “the third day”; (Matthew 16:21, 17:23, 20:19) and that He would be raised up “after three days” (Matthew 27:63, Mark 9:31, Mark 10:34). From these six verses we know that Jesus was resurrected “after three days” and on “the third day.” Note that this is the “third day” and not the “third night.” If this were not clear enough, Jesus also said, “as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” This is different from the other prophecies in that this time period covers only the time He was to be in the grave and not the period between His death and resurrection. Most important, it was a SIGN that He was the Messiah! These verses are very specific and to the point, no special interpretation is needed. -What about the Preparation Day, the high Sabbath, and weekly Sabbath? Jesus was crucified on the fourteenth day of the first month, Jehovah’s Passover (Leviticus 23:5). This day is also known as “the day of preparation” (John19:31). The next day was a “High Sabbath” (Leviticus 23:7, John 19:31). The body was taken from the cross and wrapped in a clean linen cloth and laid in the tomb. (Matthew 27:59-60, Mark 15:46, Luke 23: 52). This was accomplished just before sunset and the beginning of the High Sabbath (Luke 23: 54). On the next day, the High Sabbath, Pilate, at the urging of the chief priests and the Pharisees, gave orders to secure the grave until the third day. Their reason, Jesus had said, “After three days I am to rise again.” Note here that the order to secure the grave until the third day was from Pilate giving the order, not from the day of crucifixion. Therefore, the grave would be secure until the fourth day of death. Obviously, the chief priests and the Pharisees realized the meaning of “after three days” (Matthew 27:62-66) -What about the spices? The body of Jesus was wrapped with a mixture of Myrrh and aloes, about 75-100 pounds of spices before He was placed into the tomb (John 19: 39-40). All of this was witnessed by Mary Magdalene, the women who had accompanied Jesus from Galilee (Matthew 27: 61, Mark 15: 47, Luke 23:49). The next day was the High Sabbath. The day AFTER the High Sabbath, “Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, that they might come and anoint Him” (Mark 16:1). They then “prepared the spices and perfumes” (Luke 23: 56) The next day was the weekly Sabbath and on that day “they rested according to the commandment” (Luke 23: 56). After the weekly Sabbath, the women went to the grave to refresh the spices (Mark 16:1-2) This would be the fourth day since the crucifixion and burial with the 75-100 pounds of spices. This would also be the first day that the tomb would not be secured per Pilate’s order. -Recap Jesus was crucified on “Preparation Day” (Wednesday) and placed into the tomb shortly before the sunset. The next day was the “high Sabbath” (Thursday) and guards were placed on the tomb (One day and one night). The day after the high Sabbath (Friday), the women bought and prepared spices (Two days and two nights). The next day was the weekly Sabbath (Saturday). This was the third day and on this day as the day was drawing to a close, Jesus was resurrected. On the third day and after 3 days and after “three days and three nights” in the tomb. Hoth |

34 | Sabbath Saturday change to Sunday | Matt 5:18 | HOTH | 231777
So the day of worship was changed from Saturday to Sunday based on an implication? Mary Magdalene arrived at the empty tomb while it was still dark on Sunday morning. Could He not have arose at twilight on Saturday? The sign that He was Messiah was that He would be in the grave for 3 days and 3 nights. We know He went into the grave at twilight. Isn't it a clear implication then that he would arise at the same time of day when He was placed into the tomb? I'm not sure what you mean by the timing of the various feast days. Hoth |

36 | a demoniac or a person whose bodt is pos | Bible general Archive 4 | HOTH | 231599
Your question is redundant. A "demoniac" IS a person who is possessed by an evil spirit. The one word answer is "demoniac." It means "to be under the power of a demon" or "demon possessed." It occurs, in one form or another, seven times in Matthew, four times in Mark, once in Luke and once in John. Hoth |

37 | Will ALL of Israel be saved? | Revelation | HOTH | 231366
Hi BradK, Thank you for your comments. I don’t think there is any question that God made a covenant with Israel: “THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB. THIS IS MY COVENANT WITH THEM, WHEN I TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS.” I think that Dr. Weust is correct that this happens after the second Advent. Christ did not come from Zion the first time nor did he remove sin from Israel, but he will the 2nd time. However, God made His covenant with Israel. All Israel, has well as everyone else, will be resurrected from the dead near the end of His thousand year reign. He did not say he would remove ungodliness from part of Israel or sin from only those alive at the time of His return. Paul stated, “All Israel will be saved.” There is nothing ambiguous, cloudy, or vague about this. Other scripture confirms, but does not contradict it. The problem is that it goes against conventional wisdom. Therefore, it must be doubted. The Lord’s hand is not so short that it cannot save and He has not rejected His people. I think we would do well to remember the story of Numbers 11: 18-23, when Moses doubted the word of the Lord: Therefore the LORD will give you meat and you shall eat. You shall eat, not one day, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days, but a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you; because you have rejected the LORD who is among you and have wept before Him, saying, “Why did we ever leave Egypt?” But Moses said, “The people, among whom I am, are 600,000 on foot; yet You have said, ‘I will give them meat, so that they may eat for a whole month.’ Should flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to be sufficient for them? Or should all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to be sufficient for them?” The LORD said to Moses, “Is the LORD’S power limited? Now you shall see whether My word will come true for you or not.” I'll give you the last word. Hoth |

38 | Will ALL of Israel be saved? | Revelation | HOTH | 231335
Hi BradK, I read a John Hagee book several years ago and I really don’t, at this point, remember what it said. I offered 3 other scriptures which are consistent with Romans 11:26-27 that “all Israel will be saved.” However, you correctly note that it must be consistent with all of God’s Word and offered John 3:16 and John 6:29. To say that those two verses are inconsistent with “all Israel will be saved” don’t you have to ignore verse 27: “THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB. THIS IS MY COVENANT WITH THEM, WHEN I TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS.” If God removes ungodliness and sin from Israel would they not 'believe on Him whom He has sent?' Perhaps the question is not “will all Israel be saved?” but how and when will all Israel be saved? What would you make of the following scriptures? Matthew 19:27-28 When Peter said to Him, “Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?” And Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Also, Luke 22:30 Hoth |

39 | Will ALL of Israel be saved? | Revelation | HOTH | 231333
Hi BradK, I guess the question is this: When Paul writes, “all Israel will be saved,” does he mean (literally) “ALL Israel?” I guess it depends on what the definition of “all” is. I personally don’t know any other way to take it than meaning the whole of Israel. What do you think? Is there another way to look at these scriptures? Hoth |
||||||
40 | Will ALL of Israel be saved? | Revelation | HOTH | 231325
Hi Preston, It seems that scripture is very clear on this question: Isaiah 59:1 Behold, the Lord’s hand is not so short that it cannot save; Nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear. Romans 11:1 I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? Romans 11:2 God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Romans 11:26-27 and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, “THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB. THIS IS MY COVENANT WITH THEM, WHEN I TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS.” Hoth |
