Bible Question: The bible says that the dead in christ shall rise first. It also says we will have a new body. There will also be a judgement day. It all confuses me . My question is do we go directly to heaven if saved when we die? It doesnt seem right to get to go to heaven then later be judged. I have been always unsre if there is a place where God sends us until the rapture of the church. A good place but not heaven. I know that some relegions believe in purgatory. I dont but im wondering is there a inbetween safe place until we are all judged? Please give me some scripture to read on this |
Bible Answer: Hi Shaneknox, Question: Do we go directly to heaven if saved when we die? John 3:13 “No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man.” Ecclesiastes 9:5 “For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten.” Acts 2:29 “Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.” 34 “For it was not David who ascended into heaven . . .” Paul explains how the dead in Christ will all be resurrected from the dead “in the twinkling of an eye” and will be changed, along with the Saints living at the time, into immortals. (1 Corinthians 15: 49-55) This happens when Jesus Christ returns “at the last trumpet.” Jesus told His disciples, “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:2-3) and “Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven . . .” Finally Christ reveals when and where the reward shall be received: “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with me, to give to everyone according to his work” (Rev. 22:12) These scriptures show that everyone, except Christ, who died, are still dead, even King David. They know nothing and are unaware of the passage of time. Those in Christ will be resurrected to eternal life when Christ returns. He is bringing this reward with Him. Jesus Christ is coming to us; we are not going to Him. You are on the right track by turning to scripture. Remember, all scripture must be in harmony. When you see them all in harmony, then you will know you have the proper understanding. Hoth |
