21 | Did Moses seen God face to face? | Ex 33:20 | Bob Y. | 26869
I am sure retxar is right. God the Father is referred to as invisible and Jesus is His image. In the Old Testament, what was seen was the preincarnate Son of God as "the angel of the Lord". Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: Gen 16:10 Moreover, the angel of the LORD said to her, "I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be too many to count." Gen 16:13 Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, "You are a God who sees "; for she said, "Have I even remained alive here after seeing Him?" Like retxar says, Jesus is God and He always has been, even before He was known to us as Jesus. Rejoice in the Lord, Bob |

22 | Is paradise hell? | Ephesians | Bob Y. | 26734
I agree with EdB. Abraham, Moses the prophets and saints of the Old Testament could not have entered into Heaven until Jesus made Himself the perfect sacrifice that could forever cover their sinfulness, since each of them had been using animal sacrifices during their life to cover their sins before God. Since they could not enter Heaven and be in the presents of God, they had to be in a sort of holding area refered to as "Paradise" or "Abraham's bosom". I believe that, from the cross, Jesus decended into this holding area and preached the salvation He was providing to them by his sacrifice. They accepted Him as their savior and were released into Heaven. 1Pe 3:19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Mat 27:52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, Mat 27:53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. Mat 8:11 And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. Now this holding area is empty. The only ones that are in Hell now are there awaiting the "White Throne Judgement" of Revelations 20:11-12 and the second death. Press toward the mark, Bob |

23 | need councel | John 12:48 | Bob Y. | 26504
MrChadly, First I want to encourage you to keep talking to her, being sensative to her feelings, at least until she outright tells you to stop. Many times although someone may seem to turn away from the message of the Gospel, it is getting through to some degree. I argued very strongly against the message of the Gospel (especially the inerrancy of the Bible)with Christians who were trying to get through to me. Finally I started reading the Bible more closely so that I could put up a better argument and was saved. I think the best way to discribe Hell is eternal separation from God. Since God is the source of all good for believers and non-believers alike, try to have them imagine a life without any good. Even when we get a paper cut, the healing of that cut is a blessing from God that is enjoyed by the worst criminal while they are alive. An existance without God's blessings would be an existance of continous loss, depression, sickness, infection, sorrow, fear and torment. Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: Some, I believe, think that an existance in hell without God would mean that they could continue in their dark sins without a judge to answer to, but in order to continue in sin one must be receiving blessings from God. Without the universal grace God gives all including the unbeliever, a person would be too sick, depressed and sorrowful to even gain temporal pleasure from their sinfullness. Mat 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Tell your friend to try to picture her existance in the absents of all good. She may outwardly reject this notion, but she would have to think about it. Remain in Jesus, Bob |

24 | "am I wrong in thinking that you pray to | Bible general Archive 1 | Bob Y. | 26372
Emmaus my friend, My faith does not take the liberty to accept as truth other than what is written in the Word of God. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. God born as humanity who was sacrificed on the cross to redeam humanity to God from the slavery of sin that results in death. Jesus was raised from the dead and exalted to the right hand of God. Because of faith in Jesus Christ alone a Christian has been saved and is not judged under the law or by Sabbaths (Col 2:16). God exist as the Father, the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit. I believe in the inerrancy of the Bible which is God's word. Because this is my faith, I cannot be compared to Adventists and Jehovah Witnesses. Never the less, if the Bible says we sleep in Jesus then I have to believe that, although it is not exactly "sleep" as we know it, it is a type of sleep from which God will raise us up. I don't see anything in scripture that indicates otherwise. I believe, like many, that the twenty-four elders with white robes and victor's crowns are representatives of the raptured church and they hold the prayers of the saints. Since the church has been raptured there is no saints on earth in preparation for the judgement to come of which the church is spared (and is a result, to a great degree, of the prayers of the saints.) 1Cr 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? When I read something from early church history and it doesn't agree with what the Bible says, (or it adds to what it says)I am forced to believe that what they believed is wrong and what the Bible says is right. This is a decision I made early on and if it's wrong then I guess I'll answer to God for it. Moses and Elijah might very well have been asleep and awakened by God for the Transfiguration. Angels through out the Bible are messengers. The fact that the angels of children are always in the face of the Father just says that they will report any offence toward the children to God, not that we are to pray to angels as intercessors. Thank you, Emmaus, for your response and the love of our Lord be with you, Bob |

Emmaus, The "communion of saints", as I understand it, is from the creeds and refers to the assembly of believers. No where in the Bible does it say that the living are to "commune" with those who have passed on. In your scripture you seem to be making up rules for communing with those who have physically died. You write of the apostle Paul: "Although he was alive on the earth at the time he wrote, the same principle applies after death if God is the God of the living" What you have wrote here is an assumption, based on your own logic, that is not supported by scripture. The Bible discribes the death of saints as a sleep. It would be hard for me to pray with you when I'm asleep. Only God can awaken those who are "asleep in Jesus" so it would be usless to pray to them first. 1Th 4:13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. 1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. 1Th 4:15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 1Th 4:16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Below is the end of a prayer that was written by the Pope, posted on the forum by Nolan. Sustain us, O Virgin Mary, on our journey of faith and obtain for us the grace of eternal salvation. O clement, O loving, O sweet Mother of God and our Mother, Mary! From this prayer it doesn't sound like he is asking Mary to pray with him, he is asking Mary to intercede for him as an advocate to "obtain for us the grace of eternal salvation" To pray in this manner is counter to scripture. 1Jo 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; God is eternal and being eternal it is impossible for Him to have a "mother". God put on humanity as Jesus and Mary is the mother of that humanity. She is not the "Mother of God". To say she is the mother of God would be calling God created and it is He who created Mary. I suggest you pray to the one who never sleeps and not to those who sleep in Jesus, so that your prayers will be heard. Jhn 16:26 "In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I will request of the Father on your behalf; Jhn 16:27 for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came forth from the Father. Rejoice in the Lord, Bob |

26 | Speaking in tongues? | 1 Corinthians | Bob Y. | 25890
Retxar, I agree with you completely. I believe your first scriptural referance 1Co 13:1 says it. Does it matter whether we speak languages of men or of angels, if we don't have love are we not just a noisy gong? Those who show the attitude of “look what God gave me and not you” are not displaying an attitude of love and concern for fellow believers For every scripture reference concerning tongues there are arguments for both views, but what is important is that we encourage people to believe and grow in Jesus, not trying to falsley make them feel that their relationship with Him is in some way substandard because they are not showing one gift or another. Thank you for your responses, brother. Grace and piece to you, also. Bob |

27 | Speaking in tongues? | 1 Corinthians | Bob Y. | 25752
Retxar, there is also no scripture evidence that proves it is not an earthly language. According to Strongs it is "the language or dialect used by a particular people distinct from that of other nations" I'm not critizing those who use it as an aid to their prayers. I do critizes those who claim to other believers that because they do use it in that way they are more "filled" with the Holy Spirit than their counterparts telling them that it is a requirement to being filled with the Spirit. This is nonsense! It is also most definately against Scripture and is being used for self exaltation. I have Christian brothers and sisters that I love very much that practice tongues in this way but never claim it is a requirement for being filled or more filled with the Spirit. 1Cr 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 1Cr 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether [we be] Jews or Gentiles, whether [we be] bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. Gal 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Rejoice in our Lord, Bob |

I believe the Lord's supper is also done to remind us that He is alive within us by the Holy Spirit. We "eat" His flesh and "drink" His blood to remind us of His presents in the temple of our bodies. I can understand why the early Catholic church didn't want people reading the Bible. God bless you, Bob |

Hi Retxar, I agree with you but the way I look at it, you were not off base since the law was "revealed" to Moses but existed from the beginning since God revealed the law to expose man's sin or the fact that man was already breaking the law. "for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin." (Rom 3:20) God might have been giving Noah a little preview. Rejoice in Jesus, Bob |

If you are saying the apostles were not Catholic, you very correct. The first Catholic was the emperor Constantine who proclaimed himself "pontifex maximus" :). Bob |

Joe, What really impresses me is not how the first century church was, but the vision of how the apostles, esp. Paul, knew it should be. Bob |

34 | "Once Saved Always Saved" | NT general Archive 1 | Bob Y. | 25734
It makes perfect sense to me. The problem is that the Catholic church claims that salvation is attained partly through faith in Jesus and partly through tradition of the church. This places the church, the pope and all it's other officials next to Jesus as mediators to God Almighty. A pretty lucrative place to be, I suppose. Phl 1:17 the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking to cause me distress in my imprisonment. Since we must all "work out our own salvation with fear and trembling" (Phil 2:12) I choose not to follow false or shady doctrins put together by organizations of men, but only the Bible as God's infailable word. Rejoice in the Lord who is near, Bob |

Amen! Beautifully said, Mommapbs! I believe another falicy in the statement presented is: "Samaritan – from a community, which was considered, at the time, to be the equivalent of satanic religion (John 8:48, demonstrates the general opinion of Samaritans). This could be compared to modern day attitudes towards Muslims." This is a false statement because there is no comparison. The Samaritans were "considered" devels and outcasts by the Jewish because they had intermarried with pagan women and feared not only the Lord but pagan gods. 57. Why Jews Exclude Samaritans 7 Why are Samaritans (kuthim) excluded from entering Israel? --Because they were mixed up with the priests of the high places. Rabbi Ishmael said: "They were righteous proselytes in the beginning." Why are they excluded? --Because they marry illegitimate women but not a brother's widow. 32 They also feared the LORD and from among themselves they appointed all sorts of people as priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the shrines of the high places. 33 So they feared the LORD but also served their own gods, after the manner of the nations from which they were deported. 34 And to this day they do according to the preceding manner. --- Hebrew Bible, 1 Kings 17:5-6, 24-34 When will they be accepted? --When they deny Mount Gerizim and confess Jerusalem and the resurrection of the dead. After this, he who robs a Samaritan is like one who robs an Israelite. --- Babylonian Talmud (supplement), Kuthim 2.7 Although the Samaritan people were rejected by the Jewish in reality neither were saved or lost until they had the opportunity to accept or reject God's anointed one, Christ Jesus the Lord. In the case of the Moslims by the mere doctrins of Islam and the Quran, they have made the conscious decision to reject Jesus as the Savior and the incarnate image of God, thus bringing about their own distruction. 1Jo 2:21 I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth. 1Jo 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. 1Jo 2:23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [[but] he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also]. Islam is a satanic religion because it rejects Jesus, thus God is not their Father but Satan is. There is no other choice. It has nothing to do with whether we "consider" it to be or not, the Bible says it is. Jhn 8:44 Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. |

37 | Speaking in tongues? | 1 Corinthians | Bob Y. | 25379
I know I am adding this note to an old post, but I'm adding it also for the benefit of anyone who may be brousing and have come across people who talk this way about tongues. 1Cr 14:39 Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues. I think your friend needs to read her Bible more closely. I had one fellow tell me the same thing. About four months later he abandoned his wife and children. It made it a little hard to believe he was any more filled with the Holy Spirit than any other Christian. This is why it is so important that we study the Bible as individuals using the accepted references of scholars and not depend on others completely to teach us what it says. I love to listen to the popular Bible teachers on the radio, but certain things they say I feel compelled to disagree with, even though their teaching is enlightening on the whole. Unlike other gifts, it is difficult to measure how good someone really is with tongues. This is especially true if they are understanding tongues as the "language of angels". I feel that because of this it would be easy for someone to jump into it and bring a little shot of glory to themselves. By no means do I believe that everyone does it for this reason, but I do feel that the ones that claim that because of it they are "more filled" with the Holy Spirit than other saved Christians may fit into this catagory. |

38 | how can I eat flesh | Gen 9:4 | Bob Y. | 25373
I agree that Christians are not bound by any diatary OT laws, but it's interesting that James does discourage the eating of blood in Acts. Act 15:19 "Therefore it is my judgment that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from among the Gentiles, Act 15:20 but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood. Maybe it is because as Christians we have to be conscious of how others view us. |

Jenna, your very welcome. What I said is from my own experience and I'm sure that their are some Episcopal churches that may encourage a more personal relationship with Jesus. Continue to seek God through the Bible with the assumption (faith)that it is His infalable word and He will open it's secrets for your heart. Search for a church that exaults Jesus, believes the Bible is the inerrant word of God and encourages it's study on the individual level. In Christ's Love, Bob |

I am going to begin having my group prayer, worship and Bible study on Wednesday morning. Think maybe I might loose my salvation? Hmmm, I doubt it. But then I guess I will not let anyone sit in judgment on me in matters of food and drink, or with regard to a feast day or a New Moon or a Sabbath. |
