"Agnostic, your looking for proof here it is." I'm not expressly looking for you to prove anything to me. I'm just looking for the basis of your beliefs. - "The first importance delivered to us by an eye witness who once not only doubted as you do but also persecuted the church. I point this out so one, you know what is of first importance and two so that you can see there is hope for you and for all nonbelievers." Is the Bible then the basis for your belief in the existence of God? - "1 Corinthians 15:3-10 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10 But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me." These verses reference the resurrection of Jesus, but they do not reference the existence of God. - "Also, you may want to read the book of Ecclesiastes. This is a good example of someone that had it all and spent his time searching for meaning. His discoveries along the way and in the end should help clear things up for you." Thank you. I have read the book of Ecclesiastes, but I'm not into loose living as King Solomon was. Further, King Solomon's loose living came after his belief in God, as opposed to beforehand. King Solomon turned away from God in the end. 1 Kings 11 1 Now King Solomon loved many foreign women along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, 2 from the nations concerning which the LORD had said to the sons of Israel, "You shall not associate with them, nor shall they associate with you, for they will surely turn your heart away after their gods." Solomon held fast to these in love. 3 He had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines, and his wives turned his heart away. 4 For when Solomon was old, his wives turned his heart away after other gods; and his heart was not wholly devoted to the LORD his God, as the heart of David his father had been. 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians and after Milcom the detestable idol of the Ammonites. 6 Solomon did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, and did not follow the LORD fully, as David his father had done. 7 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the detestable idol of Moab, on the mountain which is east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the detestable idol of the sons of Ammon. 8 Thus also he did for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods. (NAS95) King Solomon was rejected forever according to the texts. 1 Chronicles 28 9 "As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever. (NAS95) - "You have attempted to make a point about what an Agnostic is. The truth is, it does not matter which one you are, agnostic or atheist. A nonbeliever is a nonbeliever. It doesn't even matter how good or moral a nonbeliever might be. Many tend to think atheist and agnostics are bad people. Some are and some are not. At least from man's point of view. The point is neither will be saved without accepting Christ." What would I need to be saved from? King Solomon's eternal fate? - "In case your interested in how to receive Christ as your Lord and Saviour, read Romans 10:9. I pray you do this!" Thank you. I have read it. - "PS. There is no safety in the middle. Revelation 3:16 So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth." Too bad for King Solomon. - "And yes, I believe in God and I believe that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and that the only way to be saved is through Him. I believe this because of what we are taught through God's word and it has been confirmed to me through the complete change in me that has taken place after accepting Christ as my Lord and Saviour. I believe this because of the void inside everyone of us without Christ was filled and made complete in me the day I accepted Christ." Thank you. |

"Yes, I know the standard definition and etymology of the word 'agnostic.'" Good. "But this is not English 101." No, it is not. Rather, it is Math 101, in this particular context. You may use the word 'agnostic' as the answer to your question. I believe that the word 'agnostic' effectively answers your question. "It is not a platform to debate the existence of God or to consider philosophic arguments for or against His existence." You didn't do the math. I answered your question with the word 'agnostic'. "It is a Bible study forum." Then why are you debating with me? "We have a high view of Scripture, and maintain and teach that it is the inerrant word of God." Then perhaps you should get back to the scripture, instead of debating with me. So do you have a question or comment based on Scripture?" Yes, I do. Do you believe in God? If so, then why? "If you are sincerely interested in the study of the Bible and hold it to be the word of God, we bid you welcome." Unfortunately, you've given me insincere answers to a sincere question up to this point. "If you are merely interested in exchanging vacuous philosophical and speculative ideas and musings, we bid you seek another web site. --Hank" I am only interested in obtaining sincere answers to my questions. But you've failed to answer sincerely. |

"I believe in God, and His son, the Lord Jesus Christ, because the revelation about Them given in the Bible is undeniably true!" If this revelation is undeniably true, then why have many denied it? "He has revealed Himself to me is such a real way, that I cannot deny!" Are you strictly speaking for yourself? Or for others too? "My life has been changed 180 degrees by my relationship to the Lord." Good for you. In what ways? "I cannot account for this by mere chance, coincidence, or personal effort." Have you ever endeavored to explore other reasons for this beyond your faith in a god? "It is by the grace of God alone that I live." Is it therefore grace alone that you show to others? "I hope this helps, BradK" Thanks. |

"Yes, I believe in God the Father Almighty and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord." Okay. "Only a fool believes otherwise: "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God" (Psalm 14:1)." This verse is referring to atheists as fools. This verse is not referring to fools as atheists, as you imply. ".... Why do I believe in God? Well, I'm not a fool!" I'm not convinced that you're not a fool. Or are you rather saying that you're not an atheist, in the context of the verse? "The Bible, which is the word of God, tells me about God from cover to cover. And "the heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmanent showeth his handiwork" (Psalm 19:1). ....." Okay. The Bible tells me about God too. "Now, "Agnositic," do you believe in God? If so, then why? If not, then why not? --Hank" Do you know what an agnostic is? |
