21 | Please explain | Matt 16:6 | 4givn | 91117
Re: John 18:4-7. Are you saying that those to whom Jesus spoke were, in the same context as your postings, "overwhelmed" by the Spirit. You are using THIS scripture as an example to support your contentions???? I fail to see the connection. Please help me. Re: Rev.1:7. I must be missing something. Please explain. |

22 | Kind of harsh, don't you think? | Matt 16:6 | 4givn | 91078
Listen to yourself. Why the "attitude"? And who said I did not want "healing, prosperity, etc."? My inquiry said "could it be". Perhaps, madame or sir, that same Word you say you trust God for also says to bear with those whose faith is not the same as your own? There is also instruction for judging others. Only the Lord knows the thoughts and intents of my heart!

24 | God limited? | Matt 16:6 | 4givn | 90699
So in other words, God has to have certain conditions met in order to "minister to you better"? Doesn't that sound like an omnipotent God being limited in some way? And you mentioned "no scriptural reference". Where are the scriptural references for being "overwhelmed" by the Spirit? Didn't Jesus say that the Spirit would bear witness of HIM (Jesus)?
25 | Knocked out by holy spirit | Matt 16:6 | 4givn | 90698
They are referring, I think, to 1 Pe 2:24, but I believe they may be taking it out of context, since the same passage refers to us having died to sins and living by righteousness. I think the healing mentioned here is referring to a "spiritual" healing. After all, the atonement makes us "whole", since now in God's eyes He sees only what Christ did for us on the cross, and not the awful ugliness of our sin.
26 | spiritual healing | Matt 16:6 | 4givn | 90697
Are you saying that the scripture "by His wounds we are healed" (1 Pe 2:24) is referring to physical healing? Could it be that it is referring to spiritual "healing", especially in light of the same passage referring to living by righteousness?
27 | Noah's Ark | Genesis | 4givn | 90486
Based on the information in Genesis 6 and 7, he could have built the ark and it began to rain in a period of about 150 years or less.
28 | Hearing and believing only required? | John 5:24 | 4givn | 90426
Are "hearing" and "believing" the only requirements for salvation, and how can one lose their salvation if they have "heard" and "believed"? Where this verse says "has eternal life", is it from that moment on, when that person first "believed"? And does "will not be condemned" mean at the judgment?

30 | What does this verse mean? | Heb 10:26 | 4givn | 90160
Try to read it in context with the whole chapter. Then consider interpreting it in light of other scripture. Try starting at Eph 2:8,9. Salvation is all about what God does for man, not about what man can do for himself. It is a "gift". It is not about what we can do for ourselves (works).Proponents of believers being able to lose their salvation almost always refer to Hebrews 10:26, but what they fail to recognize is how one gets saved to begin with, and what else the bible has to say about it. What about "He who began a good work in you is faithful to complete it." ?(Phil 1:6). Try reading Dr. Charles Stanley's book "Eternal Security". It will help you become confident in your salvation. Also, think of it from a common sense standpoint. If a person sins once saved, and then can go to hell, which sin sent him there? All of them? some of them? one of them? The same chapter you are questioning states that "because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy". (Heb 10:14). Hebrews 10:18 also mentions "no longer any sacrifice for sins". What does it mean in THAT verse? Something different? Try reading John 5:24, then read it again, but slowly and paying attention to the words carefully "HAS eternal life" and "WILL NOT be condemned" (emphasis mine). Also, if we are "born again". Then consider someone being "unborn". Is it possible for a son or daughter to be anything other than a son or daughter? What did the Lord say to the pharisees about their "father the devil". If we are born into the family of God, then what happens if we lose our salvation? Are we disowned? Disinherited? Unborn? Think about also the human effort to keep the law, and the reason why Christ had to come in order to keep it and to be our perfect sacrifice. It was because we were unable in ourselves to fulfill the righteousness of the law. Only Jesus could do that as God incarnate. Now what makes us think we can impact our salvation in any way? We couldn't save ourselves, but we can "unsave" ourselves? It just doesn't make any sense, especially in light of all the eveidence in scripture that speaks of security. I will be praying for you!

Thank you for the thoughtful and insightful reply. Your response has blessed me and given me much to ponder. I suppose I have know all along the "tactics" of the enemy that the Apostle Peter mentioned. The main one, for me, I suppose has been a "condemning spirit". I think another has been to doubt my salvation, even though I have been through this eternal security thing enough to know better. I believe John 5:24 with all my heart, but it's easy to get tripped on it it if I have allowed anything unholy into my life, and then have the Lord graciously help me root it out after much conviction and sorrow of spirit. I think I know I have really "grieved the Spirit of God" at various times and in various ways. And also have "quenched the Spirit". Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!

Thanks. I think one of the main things that keeps me from witnessing alot is a past chock full of hypocrisy and back-sliding, filled with conviction and sorrow, and eventually embraced by true repentance. Through all that, I feel somewhat at a loss to witness to others when alot of my life has been full of compromise. It truly can be a miserable existence. The older I get, however, the more gracious God seems to be to me to let me understand that I don't have to feel condemned by my past, but I do have to do something about the present. And that something is trying to live by the light that has been revealed to me.

34 | Why would God do that? | Gen 2:7 | 4givn | 89678
It's ok. You don't know me right now, but maybe one day on the other side we'll remember this time in our lives and be able to lovingly and innocently ask God "why". And maybe that was your whoile intent all along?
35 | Why would God do that? | Gen 2:7 | 4givn | 89676
Please let me try again. Look at 1 Pe 2:8. I understand it to mean that there are some who are "appointed" to destruction. There are many other verses that talk about election/predestination. I think the trouble comes in when our limited understanding of justice trys to get a handle on the justice of God. I do not believe it to be possible based on the things I mentioned yesterday, i.e., God's thought being higher than our own. Again, I am sorry you perceived me as "attacking".
36 | Why would God do that? | Gen 2:7 | 4givn | 89674
I'm sorry you perceived me as "attacking". I only try to speak what I know God's word says. My own thoughts or "opinions" are not of much consequence. The Lord jesus Himself even said that He did not speak on His own authority, only what the Father revealed to Him.
37 | Why would God do that? | Gen 2:7 | 4givn | 89673
That's right. I was not "attacking". I wonder why, though, that he perceived it that way.
